Went to the palomino to see another band and Concrete Blonde was on the undercard. They blew away everyone there, that was maybe a year before this album. Still enjoy them!
I caught them at an amusement park on this tour...at 53 years of age, it's still one of the best live bands I've ever seen ..and seen hundreds...how they weren't huge is mystifying.
How this band didn't explode on the scene and become one of the greatest bands in the world is still one of the greatest catastrophe's of the 20th century
In the second half of the 80's and early 90's there were so many high quality bands with great songwriting that didn't make it big. I blame radio stations at that time.
This was the video I saw on Much Music in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1986 and was instantly enamored with the Band. I saw them twice when they eventually made it to Toronto. Their debut album is an absolute masterpiece and a classic. Thanks to all of the bandmates for making music that was truly enjoyed by myself and my buddies and played at parties.
Still one of my favorite all time albums since I first heard and it still speaks to me to this day. Just raw and honest art that loves to be played with the volume up 😍
Brian J It was okay but second song in the drummer accidentally kept going with the song I wrote without realising so I had to make up new lyrics on the spot 😂
@@madelynmorrado6059 tough song to cover and even tougher voice to be compared to....well done keeping a good song alive and bringing it to a group that may not have previously heard it!
I want to see you covering this song.. Concrete Blond has always been bad ass band and I cannot believe this song only has 300,000 view.. that is not acceptable!!
I Remember this song been played on the Sci-fi Film 'The Hidden', when the Man who discharged himself from Hospital with the Alien inside him went into the diner & played this from the 'Ghetto blaster' that he Stole. This band should have been given a chance 😎.
She's still performing. Additionally, she still Practices & is very close to Jim Manky. You should look up her Solo Album with the Song "Save Me!" Plus the Bloodletting Album is crucial since the dude who did the Underworld Movie(s) used the Blonde for some of the Soundtrack.
BTW, she still has a website that has an email address for her. I'm sure that it is screened by a trusted Member of her career, but in over 24 years Ms. Napolitano has replied directly to me each time.
I first heard these guys on NZs Radio With Pictures in the late 80s. They topped my must find vinal list for 3 or 4 years till I secured it. Still in my collection. Never forgotten, its a piece of my punk soul.
Potsdam NY. Clarkson University college radio. Happened to tape this off the radio one night and listened to it for years before I found it in cassette. Love this version!
As this video shows, Concrete Blonde is so much a force forward, and then when you least expect it, they covered “It’s a Mans World” and “Ghost Rider’s in the Sky”, and gave it thier own special take that is truthfully personal, slow, and absolutely mesmerizing…A band of extreme Talent and Emotion…Love This About Them!!!

I first heard this song on a local radio show that introduces new talent called "Dangerous Xposure" in the early 90's. It's one of those songs I just have to hear every now and then. This bands always had talent and passion, which seems rarer and rarer as the years go by.
First time I ever heard about Concrete Blond was in the movie "the Hidden" and HAD TO KNOW who did Still In Hollywood? Loved Concrete Blond ever since! Never understood why they didn't make it bigger than they did?
"Still in Hollywood", "True", and "Your Haunted Head" are my favorite Concrete Blonde songs, but they all are great. I think all these songs were on "The Hidden" soundtrack, a sci-fi thriller. One of my favorite bands of the 80's, and their debut CD was the best. Thanks for posting! and yes, Johnette does rock! What a voice. Only other female vocalist I can compare her to is Chrissie Hynde.
Johnette is still rockin' amazing as ever!!!! She has a new album out (well, new last spring), "Scarred"... she toured last spring/summer... I had the privelege to see her twice... ABSOLUTELY ****ing AMAZING.... seeing her perform live is truly a life-changing event.... SHE IS THE BEST!!!!!
I heard this song during a halfpipe competition in 87 when I used to skate.I kinda heard it but I was competing but looked into it and got the album. This, there debut album is in a rare group of records I can put on and not skip a song and listen straight through.Really good album.
Absolutely the BEst EVER!!! Love it! They were in about three Billabong movies in the late 80's / early 90's and have been my favorite ever since! Thanks for posting! "Nothing to gain and nothing to Lose"
First heard this awesome song in a skateboard video by tony hawk's company called birdhouse projects in 1992, I was 14, I never forgot how awesome it was...thanks for posting! Rick n roll!!
When COVID ends, I'm going to visit a local diner, plunk a Boombox onto the table, order a Steak, and start blasting this song as I bang my head and try not to fart.
My god she is the Joan of Arc of rock Johnette Napolitano's undeniable voice --- gritty, passionate, honest to a fault. The best singer .... the best voice of the universe. I LOVE YOU!!!! Johnette Napolitano!!!!!!

AT a water park, they did their sound check right after a puppet show. It was straight out of Spinal tap

Definitely the most under appreciated woman fronted rock band out there.
