Oh...and the bomb hit on the helicopter was done deliberately. It was a laser guided bomb, so it could track and hit a moving target. Also, the helicopter was traveling something like half the speed of a WW2 heavy bomber like the B-24 would normally fly, probably even less than half. 💯😁

The "Quack Bang" comes from a video where he talks about OODA decision loops. OODA stands for Observe. Orient. Decide. Act. It's how our brains figure out what to do. Soldiers try to take advantage of this by doing unexpected things that reset the enemy's OODA loop. This gives a second or two of advantage which can be the difference between life and death. In the video, he's talking about the use of flash bang grenades which are often thrown into a room to disorient people before an assault. What they've found, however, is other items can be just as confusing if they're unexpected. One US unit would throw rubber ducks into a room instead of flash bang grenades. Hence a Quack-Bang instead of a Flash-bang. Somehow it ended up being a catch phrase for his channel. :)

The bomb they dropped was laser designated from the aircraft. They locked the target with a laser from their external targeting pod and dropped a laser guided bomb on an airborne, moving aerial target. Certainly not a coincidence other than the helicopter was just coincidentally there and seen by the F-15 crew.
This was not the air superiority version, this was a version for multi-role called the "Strike Eagle" which has an extra seat for the WSO "Wizzo", whom is responsible for weapons deployment/operation.

The reason the F-15 can fly so far is that it can have wing tanks, a centerline tank, as well as aerodynamically shaped tanks that are mounted to the sides of the plane itself, along the fuselage. These are held by the mounts used to hold Sparrow radar guided missiles, normally. When they are ferrying long distances, they usually don't carry any armaments, so those hard points are available to hold the tanks. Basically, it becomes a flying gas tank.

1900 miles per hour is just over 3000 Kilometers per hour. 1900 mi = 3,060 Km.
3,450 miles is 5,552 Kilometers... before it needs to refuel.
The F-15 Eagle Fighter is one of the largest fighters ever built by anyone. It has more than enough space for the huge engines, missiles, bombs, the 20mm rotary cannon, AND fuel enough to fly at LEAST 3,450 miles before needing to refuel.
The fighter does not do 'anti-gravity'-no. But it breaks the sound barrier twice to reach its top speed of Mach 2.5. Mach is the name for the speed of sound in a standard atmosphere at sea level. It was named after a physicist, Ernst Mach, in 1929.
What you are confusing is the G-Force. G for Gravity. During tight turns, the F-15's shear speed during such a tight turn can exceed 8 G's of force. What that means is that the pilot feels as if they suddenly (or over a brief few seconds duration) eight times as heavy as 'normal'. Eight Gs is eight times our normal gravity, which is, in physics terms: 1 G.
To put this in perspective, if you are driving a car at about 95 miles per hour, which is 145 Kph, and you make a semi-tight turn, you will feel like you are being shifted away from the direction of the turn. It was as if you were being flung away from the direction you were turning into. This force you feel is your G number. Which, is more than the 'standard' 1G you experience as you drive along in a straight line. This force is also felt when you accelerate quickly or brake quickly.
By the way, aircraft do not 'float' over a battlefield. No, instead, they circle off in the distance from the action and only fly in when called upon. They are so fast that they can cover miles in a few seconds, or at most, a couple of minutes to reach where they can help those on the ground.
NOPE!! GBU bombs are 'guided' bombs. They detect a laser reflection off the target and follow that to impact by adjusting the fins on the bomb to literally 'fly' to the target and hit it. So, the GBU bomb 'flew' and hit a laser 'tagged' Hind helicopter, which was itself in flight. This is not all that much different than such a bomb following a tank to hit it. Just that the tank is moving slower and an easier target to hit.
And please, do remember that the F-15 was designed and built 50 years ago. Yes, it has seen many upgrades over time, but the basic air-frame (think of a car's chassis) is the same.
Oh, and before you think that I am not qualified to speak of the above, you can look up the numbers for yourself. There are plenty of conversion sites that allow you to do the numbers. As to the rest of it? I served in the United States Marine Corps as an Enlisted Weapons Instructor for Officers. Plus, History and technology have always been passions of mine.
The Fat Electrician was an Army Medic and is a Military Historian. His way of making complex technologies, history, and military tactics understandable to the 'lay' person is one of the appeals of his utube channel. As for the 'Quackbang' thing... what is sillier than a duck grenade? A grenade that quacks at you when it goes off. The whole quack-bang thing is just a bit of humor he applies to himself to keep himself grounded and not come off as 'talking down' to his audience.

  • @dougsusie2319
    @dougsusie2319 20 дней назад +3

The F-15 was designed for air to air dogfights and fast strike bombing missions and not for ground support. In emergency situations though and can conduct ground support with that 20mm Gatling gun at 6,000 rounds per minute. You got pity those poor bastards. Body parts are flying all over the place. Our main ground support plane is the A-10 Warthog also with a 20mm gun. That gun is so powerful that when the pilot pulls the trigger the plane slows down. When you're on the ground when you hear the gun bursts the shells already hit their target. The enemy never knew what hit them. The A-10 is slow but almost indestructible and can absorb crazy amounts of damage.
They can circle the battlefield for long periods of time, they're not going anywhere. Also, they can carry a variety of bombs for close ground support and are deadly accurate.
On the battlefield all troops in a jam call for the A-10 and when the enemy take s their first rounds they flee the area immediately. They know they're dead if they don't screw on up out of there.
The A-10 is an amazing aircraft and has been our main ground support plane since 1976. The air force has tried to retire it several times but can't get rid of it because we haven't found anything better yet. The A-10 is slow and ugly but extremely tough and the most lethal over any ground combat conditions. There are some great videos on the A-10, check them out. It's an amazing aircraft!
By the way, that F-15 eagle hit that chopper intentionally to show the Iraqis what we could do.
That was 33 years ago so just imagine what we here in the good old US of A have now.
    Peace❤❤

Fun video...quick thing...Top Gun was F-14 Tomcats in the original, and F-18 Super Hornets in the newer one.👍
F-15 has such long range because it can carry a lot of fuel in the large body of the plane AND in the very very large wings. Those very large wings also mean that the F-15 can fly very efficiently for long distances due to the large amount of lift they produce, which allows the F-15 to cruise very very far with its engines running at lower power. Add to that the F-15 ability to carry several very large external fuel tanks, and that is how it can cross the entire Atlantic without refueling.

The F-15 has a fair degree of advanced targeting computers and several display screens (including at least two inside the pilot's helmet). These computers can instantly calculate a bomb's trajectory based upon the plane's altitude, speed, and trajectory to reliably predict precisely where the bomb will impact and situate a crosshair on the display. The F-15's targeting system is so precise that it can calculate the movement of a target and adjust the crosshair to reflect precisely where that target will be by the time the bomb gets there. (While this portion was specifically designed for aiming the plane's guns, a bomb is essentially a giant bullet which is simply dropped rather than fired so it can use the same formulas.)

If flying from the USA to the UK, they will take off MOST of the weapons (except the gun) and (gun ammo) OFF the plane, with probably adding "external fuel tanks" attached to the wings. That is how they would do it without a "mid-air refueling" process.
But keep in mind, this is a "most likely" situation. In emergency situations, they would send the F-15 LOADED and do quick "pit-stops" in Iceland/Greenland at ally airbases for a quick "splash and dash" refueling while engines are running OR use ally mid-air refueling planes.
Plus, I think that the F-15 is "carrier capable" so it could do a "splash and dash" off a carrier, or use the carriers "mid-air refueling" (smaller) planes to top off the tanks. Either way, the fact that it CAN go from the USA to the UK ... BY ITSELF... is absolutely mind-blowing considering it is basically the ONLY "fighter" that can do it. Larger cargo/bomber planes can, but "fighters" tend to be limited to the distance that they can cover without refueling.

Love your reaction. I agree - we need to get rid of the imperial units. I like your curiosity, the questions you ask. Other commenters have answered them. This is a great way to learn, isn't it. The F-15 is and will always be my favorite plane. I went to several air shows when I was young and this was THE plane to see. Even when the F-16 and F-18 came out this was the one. Maybe because it was the first fighter I saw up close.
Constructive criticism and maybe I commented this before but the echo in your audio is quite distracting. Better mic, maybe a lapel mic, or acoustic treatment or even hanging a blanket on the wall will help. But it does make it hard to understand what you are saying. And I come here to hear what you have to say. I still enjoy your videos immensely so please don't take it the wrong way.

Top Gun was the F14 Tomcat. Same era and every bit as great. Its problem was maintenance cost. The F15 maintenance cost was and is much less and is the best still in service.

To travel long distances they strap an external fuel tank to the bottom. It can't have that much fuel when it's fighting, and you wouldn't want all that weight.

When the F-15 taking off and it’s going vertical straight up it is not breaking the sound barrier if you see the plane and here’s the plane at the same time it’s not breaking sound barrier plus you don’t here the sonic boom . No military fighter jet or allowed to break the sound barrier over land
