Shermy told a story where they tried playing WDR faster and faster until they all stopped at the same point. Might have been the Mothball Prophecies interview.
It's great to see the Surfragettes carrying on the time honoured tradition of the instrumental bands like the Ventures, Johnny and the Hurricanes, the Shadows, the Rockin' Rebels, the Viscounts, etc...
Fantastic. Born 1958 and I am still playing drums. I would get so excited at times, I would play a faster tempo for the parts that shook me. It works really well if the band knows, like you all do. Love your work.
We played this song on TV at then WHTN-ABC Talent Hunt Huntington WV now WOWK now CBS back in the 60’s along with Pipe Line and of course Wipe Out, I love listening to these girls their GREAT, much better than we were, but brings back a lot of memories, we didn’t win but a girl and boy singing, I don’t remember what songs did win, they won it all and went on to sing on American Band Stand, I don’t remember there names, but every time I hear Walk Don’t Run I’m a teen again in front of those cameras, my brother also played guitar but he has passed and our drummer has passed also but when I hear these songs we’re kids again playing talent shows and High School dances. Thank you girls, I’ll be listening
Thanks for sharing this. I hope Sarah is feeling better now. The whole band is moving to a whole new level. What a find Sam Moloney has been, she is some drummer. Love it!!!!!
Sam Maloney already played some gigs with the Surfrajettes in the end of 2017, before Anna Liebel joint. The link: ruclips.net/video/RSJNumI0LD0/видео.html PaulP: I think you are also fan of "the Millwinders". I think that Sarah is a great musical inspiration :-). Certainly the other Millwinders are also great. For example Mark Sanders who now has his own surf-instrumental band "Mark Malibu and the Wasagas" :-). @@gerddreischhoff1633 I've seen the 2017 Cameron House gig video before, are you certain that is Sam Maloney on drums? I'd never have guessed it was Sam. She certainly looks different now and has made big improvements with her playing. Sarah is great. I'm a big fan. Loved her singing in the Millwinders. What happened to the Millwinders? They seem to have been active until around 2016/17.
@@psp66 There is some content on IG to the gigs with Sam Maloney: "We had a blast playing alongside C&C Surf Factory, and thanks to Sam for joining us on drums, and knocking it out of the park! Couldn’t think of a better way to kick of Christmas weekend!" Yes, Sam looked different in the end of 2017. Sam is also a great guitar player. There is a video on IG of her, playing a full band cover. Her guitar part blew me away. The Millwinders called it a day some years ago. Sarah and Mark (lead guitarist in the Millwinders) now play in surf-instrumental bands. Mark Sanders in "Mark Malibu and the Wasagas" and certainly Sarah Butler in the Surfrajettes. Oh, yes. Sarah was also great playing in the Millwinders upright bass and singing. What a singing voice she has :-).
@@psp66 This is not the Sam Maloney that played drums for Motley Crue. This Sam apparently played with The Suffrajettes early on but couldn't join due to other commitments, if my memory serves me well
@@deaddoll1361 You are correct. This Sam Maloney is from Toronto CA the Surfrajettes home town. I believe her priority is a band called Kali Horse. She was recently replaced in the Surfrajettes line up for a tour by Annie Lillis.
Wow, Johnny Smith would be very pleased with this rendition! and yes, Mr,. Hoist, the drummer is super duty! She really drives the band, and the green sparkle Fender guitar is just drooling, dude! Great Stuff!
The Ventures played Bill Graham's Old Waldorf Club and they laid down as many of their hundreds of tunes as they could possibly squeeze into a big ol' set. The tempo was about three notches up from the record, but they were still hella clean. Bob Bogle and Nokie Edwards must have been the ones who worked on the record as only they autographed my copy of The Go-Go's "Surf, Spy" and also a pressing of The Ventures cut of that record that I got from their swag table. (I was practically the only one who bought one of those from the pile, come on people! cheaper than a well drink, ffs.) After you put out over a hundred albums, you no longer have to vamp out any extra verses of anything to pad your setlist!
That's Jeremy DeHart of The Manakooras sitting in for Sarah Butler, who was out sick for just the one set. There's a video of his band performing at the same event elsewhere on this channel.
They did good considering they had one hour to practice. Sarah was fine for the next gig, so no need for melding with Jeremy. FYI, when they're on the road now, you may see them with a touring (female) bassist since Sarah can't do long tours. But she's still in the band.
This isn't the band, but I'm pretty sure they don't do Miserlou or any Dick Dale songs. Check out their records on the Hi-Tide Recordings site. They have great originals, along with some cool covers. Sarah missed just this one show due to illness back in June 2022. I believe it's the only time Jeremy filled in. He was at the event playing with the Manakooras. That's what makes this video rare. She played the night before. Also note that while Sarah is the permanent bassist, she can't do long tours so they have been using touring musicians during some of their recent, extensive road trips.

You guys had a wonderful bass girl... where is she???😗 ... but... dont tell to anyone, her bass guitar, that blue one, was a big shit LOL - This drummer is the most... love her❤
This is a rare video. Jeremy DeHart of The Manakooras sat in on bass for just this one show when Sarah Butler was a little under the weather. She played show before and the show after. Note that the band has starting using a new touring bassist (female) so they can do longer tours when Sara can't take the time off.
I have never seen such energetic drumming since the Muppet Show.
That Drummer Is Incredible 😊❤
The drummer is insane!
Ooooh Yes! We Concur 🤙 Loco Gnarly 'n soo On it!!!! 🤠🌵🛸

Another great performance! Samantha Maloney is killing it on the drums
Saw Surfrajettes play live last year. They are awesome! Would go see Sam Maloney drum no matter what band she was playing for. So much energy
