  • I've just cheated on my partner OR I've been cheating on my partner for awhile. Do I tell them I've cheated?
Unfortunately, infidelity is pretty common in the sex addiction realm. That totally sucks, but it is just the reality of the situation. Many people in recovery have experience with this, so today's question is a particularly important one.
If you're in this situation, make sure you watch the whole thing (even if the brain stuff is boring to you). This is an ultra sensitive topic that has to be handled with extreme care.

Note: There may be references in this video to "my addiction" or me being "an addict." Over the years, I've learned that claiming this as part of my identity - part of who I am - is detrimental to the recovery process and to holistic healing. It truly builds failure into the foundation. Yes, I have addiction, but I am not "an addict," and addiction certainly isn't "mine." At my core, I am a magnificent being worthy of love and acceptance who has unlimited potential - and so are you!

You don't need to watch a drawn out 10 minute video. Two words: hell no.

I agree that in some cases a full disclosure is likely to do more harm than good. It really depends on the individual(s) involved and the particular circumstances. I don’t always agree that admitting to a terrible wrongdoing is going to be the right answer to everyone. I’ve seen some really bad situations in which the betrayed partner never truly recovered and was scarred for life. I just don’t always believe telling them in an effort to “ make yourself feel better“ or less guilty is the answer.

Good topic Jace. I have cheated so many times. I was happily married, but my addiction and drive for the next “thrill” kept me looking else where. I hated myself for it and paid the price by being divorced. Haven’t strayed now for 3 years. Being able to talk about triggers and low points has really helped. Sometimes the urge crops its head up and yes! It can be a struggle. Though, so far so good. It’s hard to explain to someone that I really don’t or didn’t want to be unfaithful, but my mind state at the time didn’t recognise the wrong and hurt it brought to my partner. I was just so set on getting my goal for satisfaction

7302d your response helped me so much. I was in the other side of the fence. I was the betrayed spouse. And have was right on. We’ve been married for 35 years and he hid it for decades. I was crushed and completely separated from my reality afterward. We are 4 years from disclosure and it’s a. Nightmare for both of us some days. (Somehow my husbands and my you tube got connected so I am a woman). In the beginning, I found it hard to imagine not living my husband anymore because it’s not fair to accept all the good someone gives you and run away from the bad, but it’s actually getting harder rather than easier. Wish he could talk to me.

Being cheated on can be a devastating and a massive trauma. In many relationships it can be wake up call - our own actions may have unknowingly contributed to the fracture or we may truly have been an innocent victim. Marriage is not a guarantee of fidelity nor is living together nor is any promises of being true. A cheater is often living in completely different reality - in fact multiple realities. Jace, I loved how you showed compassion to each side - it really will be the only way that the cheater and the one cheated on will be able to eventually recover (maybe without the relationship) and again lead more productive lives without having to live in the shadow of shame and regret. Thank you!

You're definitely entitled to your opinion mr paul! with respect , I've followed Jace since 2011 and I'm trying to understand what makes someone a genuine sex addict? Not sure if this was the only video you've seen, but shes definitely authentic!! I think she used youtube as an outlet and a platform. I'd be surprised if Jace thought about if it were a good idea or not to post videos her videos. Regardless and respectfully Jace is beautiful in every way!! I promise you'd delete your comment if you watched 40 percent of her videos. I hope my comment wasn't offensive!

Sex addiction huh? That's the excuse I've been looking for to use on my wife! An actual physical brain anomaly that caused me to step out on my wife six times. Here I was thinking I was a crappy husband, but I was actually unwell. Awesome!!! I hope our therapist turns out to be really hot!
As an aside, why aren't serial rapists and their victims ever offered reconciliation/disclosure counseling. I'm sure they could use nonjudgemental support as well.
