- Опубликовано: 21 мар 2020
- Stop what you’re doing because this episode is an Ultimate Fusion Chef Battle! Drawn at random, our Chefs were given two cuisines that they must fuse together in a cooking battle. Ben was given German and Vietnamese, while James was given Peruvian and Filipino. Sounds easy, right...?
We'd love you to come and hang out with us on Instagram at 4.30pm every week day where our chefs will be on hand to answer any foodie questions you have at this time and just create a fun place for us to all be together.
Apologies for lack of recipes at this time... whilst we aim to get them up... perhaps these similar flavours and ideas will inspire:-

"why are you guys so adverse to learning?!" YES! I'm with Ben on this one. I like the little facts that he throws here and there. They're interesting. Stay strong Ben! 😁
He's a good teacher! Too much Ben dragging in this one. Gotta stick up for our boy!
Same! ❤❤❤
My theory is that they secretly love them too, but it wouldn't be a Sorted video without roasting Ben.
I hope Ben's not averse to learning that the word he should have used is "averse," not "adverse."

Bases and acids are present in our everyday life. Even if lye is composed mainly of sodium hydroxide, the strongest of the bases (ignoring superbases), it is not dangerous when you only eat the noodles, drink the solution and you are done for. Also, sure natural lye has impurities that contain mercury and chromium and that is why you must get food-grade lye, which is VERY pure. Again, because you are eating the soaked noodles, not the solution, and the lye itself is already so pure AND you don't eat lye everyday, your exposure to such heavy metals is so low it will NEVER do any harm. It is all about exposure.
Or better yet, buy the pure chemical, sodium and potassium hydroxides.
Ben: *gives James a probably somewhat helpful heads up about his dish*
James: *replies with a less helpful dig about his sausages*
i love them, such a great pair
Yes I waited for that banana joke :D
They were some chodey looking little sausages though
@@Cruxador Seems to be berliner sausage. this is a sausage without the casing
@@danielpra2850 Chevaps are like that too.. skinless and rather spicy lol
@@Cruxador many countries have casing-less sausages that look similar to those, albeit in different shapes. Vietnamese cuisine has nem nướng, which is a grilled pork sausage that is made/look a lot like how Ben made his; and as mentioned in other replies, Germany also has something not all that different.
"You are judging it though. So it doesn't mean anything" is the best sentence from a chef to a normal across all these battles
Love that when they drew the line for James' countries they went across africa, and the whole world. But if you just went left it's literally a straight line across the Pacific Ocean, lol.
THIS. Oh my god, that bothered me so much.
Love the fact they really care about us and this community. I hope everyone within the Sorted team are save and well
Yeah, this warms my heart as well. I said to my husband earlier I was really going to miss these guys. Nice that they have some ahead for us and they'll stay safe.
I actually cried when I saw the start of the video. It's such a weird time to be alive, and I just hope they're all doing as well as they can be. And I'm thankful they're still going to be releasing videos, some sort of normality can go a long way.
Ceileidh Mercer - I was watching a history channel RUclips which reminded us, this is actually not a very wierd time to be alive. In fact, for humans it’s the norm. World wars, bombings, earthquakes.... we are a lucking few generations that haven parents nearly sixty years of mostly peace. So I guess it adds some perspective. At least our homes aren’t being bombed.
And they didn’t have SORTED to get them through!
Me and a lot that you care
I hated every second of that stupid intro, so much so, that I skipped it entirely, as to not get angry
2:00, I mean... They could be considered close going the other direction. What with the earth being round and all.
And this is how we discovered that the Sorted boys are flat-earthers...😂
I would hazard a guess and say crossing the Pacific, they would only be around 5-10% closer than a round the globe measurement. The Pacific Ocean is MASSIVE
LMAO i came here to say the same thing... lol who's gonna tell them we live on a globe?!?! :D
Using the route their graphic mapped it looks like that would be about 22,000 km, so about 24% further than the most direct route across the Pacific (roughly 17,800 km). Either way, not exactly physically close! Just had to satisfy my curiosity. :)
@@Lou-Mae I knew someone would do the research!
As a fellow Vietnamese, I'm actually amazed by Ben's choice. Because even for Vietnamese, it's not very well-known, but it's absolutely amazing and my favorite dish in this world

Ben feels he must fill every second with talking.
Bens also spent more than ten years educating people and talking about his recipes on camera 🤔
@@bethabaloo Not saying the talk wasn't educational... in fact I was tempted to edit it to mention that it was educational.

One big team! :D
I love how much they care and look after their entire team and demonstrate good teamwork! I personally prefer small actions that go unnoticed as evidence of good teamwork because actions done to help the team shouldn’t need praise but are done with the intention of assisting their teammates for the benefit of the team, for me that is good teamwork and is frequently evidenced by every member of the Sorted team

@@BeardedDanishViking True true but the line between sass and nastiness was a little blurred in this episode
James was utterly on fire this episode. We are only a few months into 2020, but his casual yet total dismissal of the relevance of Jamie's food judging will surely end up being a candidate for sickest burn of the decade.
...Then the disinterested expression, eye roll, and subtle "why the fricassee is he still talking?" shrug while Ben explains how lye is used in food preparation... Hilarious. 😆

To be fair, James probably had an easier time achieving that 50/50 balance since his styles were more similar to begin with.
Now, if you want to REALLY get crazy once life returns to normal, you guys could do a Fusion Pass It On!

JAMES!!! Infront of the FridgeCam... HehehehehE
"Adobo exists in both cultures."
Yeah, 'cause they were both colonized by Spaniards.
If I remember correctly the Filipino one developed independently. Adobo is just the name the Spanish colonists gave to the native cooking method they encountered there because it was somewhat similar to their own.
@@victorsmoebaumann6040 Modern Filipino adobo picked up some Spanish influences along the way though.
Adobo came from the word “Adobar” which is spanish for “marinade.” Filipino Adobo is indigenous to the Philippines, the method and process dates back pre-colonial times.
@@karu6111 Yeah, and I'm quite sure the Mexican one is too because we use quite a lot of our traditional chili, so I would assume the Peruvian should be done with their own native ingredients too, and we all just share the Spanish word because of colonization.
Can we just appreciate that little clip in the beginning. So heartwarming. Hope everyone from Sorted are doing well!
More fusion battles PLEASE. There’s so many amazing dishes out there to mix and match!
“Your banana is spitting” is a low-key Bennuendo.
Bennuendo, I am dying.lol😂
It kind of feels like that every time a food channel mentions „german food“ they reduce all of germany to baveria
Ja. Exactly what i was Thinking.
Germany? Sausages and Beer!
Sausages, pretzels and beer... what about fish, green cabbage (as in Grünkohl) and so on?
I agree with you, but... I think it's less about reducing it than it is about not being able to identify other German foods. I don't know if that's because German's aren't making enough 'noise' about their awesome food or if German dishes are so well known they're just thought of as 'food'.
I would be super stoked to see Sorted do Lost and Hungry in Germany.
Its not even very bavarian. Its like the american version of bavarian food. We don't put sausage in everything. Also that sausage looks nothing like the sausages you would get in germany. We don't eat Sauerkraut that much, Blaukraut is much more common. And the last time I ate those pretzls was like in kindergarten??? Brezeln are like proper baked goods, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We do put beer into sauces though. Also Jamie: the only place germans eat hot dogs is at Ikea. I think Ben could have done a better job. BTW Mike did a perfect very good composition of common ingredients shared by southern germany/swiss/austrian regions back in the ultimate grilled cheese battle. I know you can do better. :)
@@adde9506 We'd love to learn more. To be honest... it feels like the stereotypes are the only bits to 'travel'. Even when in Berlin and Cologne last year... beer, sausage, bread, pork and sauerkraut was the majority of food we were offered. Would love to dig deeper!

That was ...interesting. I normally watch those fusion battles with interest and don't think twice about it. But today, being german, I got a taste for what the spanish people may have felt during Jamie's paella faux pas. Ben, I love you lots, but oh my god 😂😂😂😂
Thats is atleast things as exist in typical german food.
One time they tried to do a swedish shakshuka, an dish as never existed in sweden.
@@ThePapaja1996 no what ben used doesn´t exist in typical german food. Google what german pretzel and beer are and then look at what Ben used. Both are somewhat of an artform in germany and what they used is so far away from that, that they don´t even belong to the same food group.
Oh lighten up 🙄
@@redeye1016 I strongly doubt that there was any ill will in the comment. What they managed to create in the video was definitely impressive, you could , however, tell that Ben's dish leaned somewhat more towards the authentic representation of the Vietnamese kitchen and used far more stereotypical German flavors. That's not bad in any way, shape or form for a fusion dish, the German kitchen is just a lot more diverse than beer, sauerkraut, pretzels and sausages.
They’re either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid for repeatedly combining different countries cuisine’s especially after seeing how much backlash Jamie suffered from what seemed like the entire population of Spain because he disrespected such a traditional well protected dish 😂 James and Ebbers are probably safer because they cook all their ingredients really well and have complete understanding of how their different components interact and benefit the dish rather than being shoehorned in to fuse two different cuisine’s together 😂
You’d think y’all were stuck in isolation with each other for two weeks what with the way you’re pushing each other’s buttons in this video.

we have so many dishes in germany and they only used stereotypes
@@asiamarill Is there a such thing as a food stereotype? Anyone else would call it iconic. Do you call it a stereotype when they do a burger for American, or pasta for Italian?
The thing is, you have to choose one primary and one secondary. You can't have two main dishes. James got very lucky that both of his countries had a matching traditional dish so he could just make it one way with the other one's sides. The only thing he used from Peru was quinoa and "inca style baked corn". Quinoa and corn, the two things latin America is known for producing. One might call it.. a stereotype?

I'm so happy that James did the banana catsup, because whenever I tell my Western friends about using bananas in ketchup, I'm usually faced with either laughter or "wtf you shouldn't put bananas in ketchup." There is traditional basis to his take on adobo. My folks in Bohol have something they also call as adobo, which is closer to a Bagnet than the typical adobo which means it is more or less cooked by frying.
I never get tired to whatch you guys battle! So much fun! Always challenging your selves. It inspired me to do the same, so thanks!
Yes, absolutely, more Chef vs Chef battles!
Never been this early! Stay safe eveyone!
Also you try to stay safe
Since everyone is working from home because of the virus, I think it would be a good idea to do a food quiz over a video call. So Ben and James come up with the questions and the normals answer them.
Your videos have always been a relaxing form of escapism for me and my other half to watch when we just want to chill out or watch something to keep our minds off life for a while. They’re even more important at the moment! Thank you so much for being so fun and lovely and genuine and for making generally fun, entertaining and unique videos for us all to watch. We can tell you all have a ball making them which make them even more enjoyable for us to watch. Thank you. Xx
You lads (and of course I mean the whole production team and respective families too!) stay safe, and thank you for making this stressful time a little easier for all your fans!
