Forest just has laser tight precision. although he did write the song so i guess its all in the way that you play it. no my EQ is not flat. Im only using the bridge pickup on the bass and have the bass boosted a little bit and the treble turned back just a hair. The thumb does contribute a lot of the sound though. i feel that this is one of the most perfect sounds you could have for a fretless bass.
Does that model have a thinner neck or is it the chunky one? I love the sound and look of warwick but the one's I've tried are very uncomfortable for my medium sized hands. I've heard they make thin neck models but I'm confused as to what in particular to be looking for. Sorry for the rant. Just subscribed. You're killer.
Absolutely. That said, fretless bass is objectively very hard to play well (because of the intonation), and a 6-string even more so. Fretless musicians usually spend their entire lives perfecting their intonation, because faster music will always have tiny flaws and you can use subtle changes in expressive ways. I'd love to rip the frets out of both my basses, but unfortunately most non-bassists are stupidly fussy about having the 'fretted bass sound'. If you only play fretless bass, you'll seriously be rejected from many (if not most) bands because of it, which is incredible.
marco escalante It's a great instrument, in the right hands. If people over-use the portamento and don't have their intonation down, it can sound typical of the cheesy slightly-out-of-tune fretless bass from the 80's. But in the hands of a good player who's practised A LOT, it's an incredibly expressive instrument and will hopefully one day become more standard. Glad you like it :)
That "weehhh wmmmmm nnmmmnmmm" is so awesome :D But I prefer a more thick,strong sound,that's why I use Marshall.Warwick is also a great company! But I don't use a fretless,cause I don't like that...jazzyness :D
Incredible cover dude. Regarding the intonation, it's pretty fantastic considering how ridiculously hard the left-hand work is. Those shifts would be a nightmare on a fretted bass, but getting the intonation perfect on a fretless.... phew! Despite certainly not being a better bassist, I would like to make one technique recommendation: try to keep your plucking fingers closer in when playing with 3 fingers. I say this because I had much the same issue for the first few years of using 3 fingers, and I've found that when I'm able to keep them closer together I get better accuracy and endurance. I also say this because your 2-finger technique is incredible, and there's a clear gap between that and your 3-finger technique; not just visually, but also sonically. But that critique is out of total respect for your incredible skill. If I do switch to fretless one day (as I hope to), you'll definitely be an inspiration for it :)
Awesome skills man, definitely a great deal of talent. I just think that your playing in this video sounds very staccato, when its more of a legato feel.
CannibalisticZombie I have mixed feelings about the tone on the album for the bass. It fits the album well but my preferred sound leans more toward Alex Webster (take albums like Torture, A skeletal Domain, Red before black, Gallery of suicide and even the bleeding). The tone you used for video also works well.
Great cover man! Cool band to cover. the way they write is so unique to allow the bass player to be the one that is playing around the most with variations.
Zombie just seeing this video and the way your playing is you do very well and the intonation is just good as well regardless of how off it might be its still killer
As is your usual way, you have nailed this song!!! Phenominal work as always my good man!!! Jolly good show and all that. Long live the six string frettless bass.
A new CannibalisticZombie video? And yet again you make me realize I need to practice WAY more to become even half the bassist you are. This and some of your other videos pretty much made me want to get a fretless, soon... Well, your videos and pretty much all Obscura material. God damn I want a fretless NOW.
The fact you just matched The Forest almost note for note is absolutely incredible man. Maybe next you can do Sovereign Sacrifices from Equipoise? That bassist is ridiculous.
Man, this song is a masterpiece ,really , incredible . When i see the Beyond Creation vídeo last year, i think thats no one man could be do it good in the fretless, is a really difficult song . Excelent try , really .Good . Hey , and the Decrescent album is great ,good job, man.
Your intonation is off here, and there, but it's pretty good throughout. If you want to get it close to flawless, the thing I did to build my intonation on Double-bass was sit there and play scales (of course mine were bowed, but doing them pizz would be fine too) to a drone. You can find some really good cello drones online. Great work as usual.
Awesome as always. Digging the fretless tone, I'm looking into fretless myself. Got to try my first Warwick yesterday, gotta say I liked the tonal options with Parallel and Series.
Warwick: the masters of bass building. No basses will ever come close to them in quality and sound. They just violate every genre from smooth jazz to funk to fretless ominous sounding death metal. My dream bass company
If metal was a video game, this is the final boss battle.
final boss is the viraemia's bassist probably
@Ефим Тонких Scott Plummer ;) - Though Jeff Hughell could be right up there, too!
@@potrokh6363 well he died soo..
not for guitarists pfff
Kills you In one hit and sends you to the start of the game 😂

and they say bass is easy..everything is challenging depending on how much you want to achive, great job

Alex Khouri I personally love the sound of a fretless bass, but hey at least your have both :)

What about playing the triangle??
I love how this is above Forest's bass video when I type in Omnipresent Perception...
Man I LOVE the tone that Warwicks have. Sounds pretty good as a fretless too! Don't know this song but it sounded great.
That "weehhh wmmmmm nnmmmnmmm" is so awesome :D But I prefer a more thick, strong sound, that's why I use Marshall.Warwick is also a great company!

"weehhh wmmmmm nnmmmnmmm"
I just find it funny that I know exactly what part you're talking about
Matt Fletcher You can describe how a fretless sounds with those letters XD
its called omnipresent perception, by beyond creation
i love Quebec. cant wait to go back someday.

Doesn't count unless it's played left handed :P
Showed this to Forest, He says nice playing and that it sounds really nice with the warwick. :) Good job man.
Dude. Dead on. You're sooo on point. Seriously.
Awesome skills man, definitely a great deal of talent. I just think that your playing in this video sounds very staccato, when its more of a legato feel.
just tryin to play what Forest plays.
+Dalton Goree i kind of like it better this way :)

Zombie just seeing this video and the way your playing is you do very well and the intonation is just good as well regardless of how off it might be its still killer

Phenominal work as always my good man!!!

Long live the six string frettless bass.

I sense some baroque drama in that. Awesome as always! Love it!
Amazing, bro'. I was waiting for this one. Always up to hearing new covers from you.
The fact you just matched The Forest almost note for note is absolutely incredible man. Maybe next you can do Sovereign Sacrifices from Equipoise? That bassist is ridiculous.

i agree, thats part of the reason why i play a fretless bass for my band Decrescent.
Great cover, the sound is perfect. Cheers from Mexico.
You are really rick man! Awesome skills
i have thought about it. although it has not been at the top of my list of things to do, it would be interesting to cover some of Nicks bass lines.
Sick ass cover as always, keep it heavy!
i have been waiting to see when he'd finally try some beyond creation
Dude yore very inspirational! love the way you tear the bass up!!
Your intonation is off here, and there, but it's pretty good throughout.
