@@EJSjjh ya don’t need perfect pitch or relative pitch to be able to tell if someone’s intonation is off sincerely, someone who’s been playing cello for 9 years
Still my favourite fretless cover of all Time. I just imagine how a cover of Celestial Spheres would be in your hands in HD. That would be just the thing I would die for. Thanks for all your basslines, and amazing contributions such as your compositions/projects/test videos. Us, mere mortals, are proud of you!!!! Wishing you a continued success and your amazing axes shown throughout are all epic!
When I listen to this, I never watch the video, but minimize the video and listen to it as I'm just listening to the MP3. Simply, I forgot that this was NOT the MP3 from the CD. Absolutely impressed. Great job.
Did this video go private for a while? I remember loving it years ago but when I searched for it more recently it didn't show up at all. I've only come across it now by chance in my recommended. Whatever the case, I'm glad I can watch it again!
That was impressive, on many levels. I saw Obscura in Tokyo earlier this year... and was blown away by the bass playing... (met Hannes too - but thats another story..) and once again, in awe of musicians who play fretless instruments. Ive tried it once or twice out of curiousity and it is near impossible to hit any semblence of accuracy - unless youre talemnted like this guy obviously is. Kudos man... Fantastic playing
Utter perfection once again. I ask this every time, but you should definitely cover a beyond creation song. The Deported or Coexistence, actually anything on The Aura would be entertaining to no end. Great covers.
Fucking awesome... I REALLY love this cover. Listened to it maybe in 2012-2013 and I was always listening to it. Just re-found it and It is still killer!!!!
you know i have a lot of respect for you and any other individual who can play fretless Id give my left nut to be that good with frets, but without is just AMAZING
@2scrimble9 The strings are D'addarios, still the same ones that where on the bass when i got it. there are to many things contributing to my EQ to actually explain it on here.
@Senzor364 From the looks of it he plugs his bass guitar into an audio interface which hooks up via USB to his laptop and records into some software and uses a bass emulator.
You're really great !!! And I must say that I like the fretless sound much more. I'm a bass/DB player and this is THE sound to me. You did a very wonderful job on it.
the way I learned started with separation and forcing your fingers to become independent from each other, only way to do this is practice, honestly. I started with bass, so my hands aren't used to picks (I actually can't even use them, halfway through a set, I'll throw on the ground because I hate the sound it gives me). One thing I will say is that the tone changes drastically depending on where your right hand is, and it seems to be far more sensitive than on guitar
@CannibalisticZombie Hey man its been a while...my first time seeing this cover and its awesome. Loving Obscura too...great music that they are putting out!!!
Good ....very good indeed. I like the wooden sound he gets sometimes, but does it sound the same on the album ? Could I maybe ask for more production like Steve Harris does in his band ? ...or is that too much to ask ? Anyway ...perfectnezz and precision is the order of the day here ....
@GallopingPints my Sansamp and Guitar rig was used to get the tone in the Phobofile video, there where so many different settings that i had to adjust i dont remember what i had them at. it was partially the bass too that gave me that tone but really what i go for is boosting the mids and have a bit of treble. the lower frequencies are usually set flat. but i guess what ever sounds good to you, use it. thats what i do.
and the instrument usually has marks for you to know where you should place your fingers. for example, watch the actual bass player from obscura. it seems his bass is freted but it isnt, its just marks to help you!
ive been hunting for a septuagint bass cover for so long. now i can die happily hehe. very nice one bro. you inspired me to pick up the bass. hope to see more obscura cover from you.
If you're complaining about his intonation, remember that you're comparing him to jereon paul thesseling, a guy who's done microtones to the point where there are 72 notes in an octave.
@Orval666 i do have the truss rod cover, i just have it off at the moment because i was adjusting my neck. need new strings and a good wax on this beauty.
I would also have to agree on turning the background music down some. I'm here to hear your play! Not listen to the song, but it doesn't really matter. It's still awsome
awesome as always man!
Playing any Chicago shows soon?
Wow,you were not famoud then
Wow 8 years ago your beanie wasnt even a thing
I didn't expect to find u here Rob!!! 😂😂
raaaawawwbbb
The fact that he's nailing this on a 6 string fretless with perfect intonation is impressive enough for me.
finally someone who know how to play a fretless. nicely done, sounds in tune constantly which most people overlook
Do you have perfect pitch?
some notes are actually a little bit off, but that's complaining on a very high level.

+Gizmo Inferno unrelated; but loving Fear of a Blank Planet :p
You are an amazing bass player! Wish I ever get as good as you are!
I wish I was half as good. lol
lol
I see you in every metal videos I watch. High five !
Yeah I love metal :D
Spacesonia how the hell did I come across you here what the hell (im per)

I love the bass from Obscura. Great cover.
I saw your videos since 2 or 3 years and I've seen that you improved a lot A LOT!
I'm loving that 3:07 solo. Rewatching this for the fourth time today.
This is amazing. I love the sound of that fretless bass. Great band to cover by the way
I've never heard anybody record a low B or A string and have it come through so audibly... bravo.
@2scrimble9 thanks! i spent a long time finding this tone, im happy with it.
God damnit... now I need to buy a fretless bass.
+Shelby Synesthesia
Yes, yes you do.
A tad bit harder, but so much more fun.
+Shelby Synesthesia i thought that so i just built myself one, nowhere near as nice sounding as his Warwick but gets the job done
Maybe i will buy a cheap fretless warwick rockbass someday. Probably a lined one :p haha
That's a good idea.
You could always make your own, in the sense of getting a bass and removing the frets and just filling them in. i did it and its still rly amazing
watching your videos not only inspires me to be better but i also find new bands.
Thank you.

this album omnivium is one of the best records i've heard, and making this cover make me excellent, what an artist both are!
Utter perfection once again. I ask this every time, but you should definitely cover a beyond creation song. The Deported or Coexistence, actually anything on The Aura would be entertaining to no end. Great covers.

still.
Nice job man, wish I had your accuracy on the bass.
@EctoplasmicLives for guitar i use the Ultrasonic head with a graphic EQ to boost the high end a bit.
@TheMD93 thank you! iv adjusted the action on just about all of my basses because i have them all set for different tunings.
you know i have a lot of respect for you and any other individual who can play fretless Id give my left nut to be that good with frets, but without is just AMAZING
This is absolutely outstanding. 👏
Absolutely perfect bro. I wouldnt be surprised if Obscura asked you to play bass for them in the future. Keep up the insane work man.
You and Alex Webster are my greatest inspiration
Fretless bass, it's like artist's canvas-draw where you want and what you want. And you're just fucking great artist!
Odd question but where did you buy that laptop stand at?
Very nice. Just got my '08 Corvette 6 Monday. Love it
You sir are a magician... You're fingertips are still there by the end. Great song
This is avery aweosme song, with awesome basswork!
@2scrimble9 The strings are D'addarios, still the same ones that where on the bass when i got it. there are to many things contributing to my EQ to actually explain it on here.
Still the best version out yet.
Absolutely love the octave glissandos! So warm.
Great cover!!! Grear band and great song!!
You have Talent, and a lot, keep up with music, you will be GREAT
Genius!!! This is totally mind blowing stuff.. And yeah i would love to see a Cynic or a Spawn Of Possession cover....
congratulations you've heard the best metal covers!
Amazing cover, as soon as i listened a few stuff from Obcura i loved their style, definatly need to check out more of them.
2023 and still banging 🤟🏻
@Senzor364 From the looks of it he plugs his bass guitar into an audio interface which hooks up via USB to his laptop and records into some software and uses a bass emulator.
It sounds awesome with the intonation out a little.
@Bassbait Awesome idea man! And congrats for opening Obscura
One of my favorite songs! Love your playing.
You're really great !!! And I must say that I like the fretless sound much more. I'm a bass/DB player and this is THE sound to me. You did a very wonderful job on it.
@MstrRed TOTALLY AGREE BROTHER, ITS BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
To clarify, that wasn't originally a fret less bass. He just shreds so hard that the frets melted off.
the way I learned started with separation and forcing your fingers to become independent from each other, only way to do this is practice, honestly. You're a kick ass bassist, and I'm sure you'll be touring the world soon enough.
Again ... Holy shit , u nailed it perfectly
THANK U really glad to listen to this
good shit man, this is inspiring despite me not being a bassist.
wow you are the electric bass god I am your fan and also of decresent :)
@CannibalisticZombie Hey man its been a while...my first time seeing this cover and its awesome. Loving Obscura too...great music that they are putting out!!!

He's done "Dead and Grotesque" which includes an awesome made up tapping part that makes the song much better. Check it out.
Great bass playing!!!
A monster. A bass. An epic cover
Very awesome, you have amazing skill brother!
God demons man!you are the master of disaster on that fretless bass!!hopefully I have frets on my guitar, it makes it more easier!
Awesome, love the bass solo.
Great job.
That and this is all really nice quality work. Nice bass, nice recording job. I'm as impressed as you are.
You never fail to amaze me...
and the instrument usually has marks for you to know where you should place your fingers. for example, watch the actual bass player from obscura. it seems his bass is freted but it isnt, its just marks to help you!
respect to any fretless bass player. that must take precision beyond any doubt.
you're the best bassplayer i've ever seen!
ive been hunting for a septuagint bass cover for so long. now i can die happily hehe. very nice one bro. you inspired me to pick up the bass. hope to see more obscura cover from you.
@MikeAsHimself Yeah, because of his other work with Pestilence. There's some argument about whether he left or he was fired though.
Beautiful job Brother
such a good song... such a good job on this song... amazing
You are a virtuoso! Decresent is badass! You're covers are inspirational and well done! Keep that shit up!
Intonation is actually quite good. Awesome bass cover.
once again... AMAZING man!
Jeroen Paul Thesseling has been playing fretless bass for 5000 years. It's quite hard to compete with that. Anyway, this cover is very cool.
Nice Thumb 6er (have one myself), even without the truss-rod cover.
Nice cover too.
you are the best man i like your fretless bass you are the best lml obscura
A good study in theory, helps you hear the notes and understand them better. So you can pick them out when you hear them, and fill in the gaps.
Beautiful both the cover & the tone
dude, this video is nothing short of awesome!! great job!!!
Absolutely beautiful.
The tone on that bass is so sick.
Frets correspond with notes, read the tabs, then find on fretless. regardless learning by your ear is so much funner.
simply amazing, so much power
If you're complaining about his intonation, remember that you're comparing him to jereon paul thesseling, a guy who's done microtones to the point where there are 72 notes in an octave.
best bass cover
respect dude you are better then the new bassist of obscura
That was the most BAD-ASS shit I have seen or heard on a bass!!!! Hell yeah!
You should do some Blotted Science covers dude!
BTW awesome cover. Congrats
Really, really great..
Keep that up!
like always.....amazing
@Orval666 i do have the truss rod cover, i just have it off at the moment because i was adjusting my neck. need new strings and a good wax on this beauty.
@nilewow my brother inspired me. i use to play it just for fun because i had nothing better to do with my time. never really took it seriously.
Nailed it again bro! I Love that bass too.
i wish one day i could play the bass like this man
@Themarek666 no my Sansamp is currently broken so i was just running it straight through Guitar rig. i like the bass driver better
amazing playing man, dont ever stop!!
@bocha17 had the same phone for 5 years. im surprised it made it this long.
Watch the tuning! Great cover!
I would also have to agree on turning the background music down some. I'm here to hear your play! Not listen to the song, but it doesn't really matter. It's still awsome
amazing fretless bass tone....
