Here's a quick playthrough for ‘The Anticosmic Overlaod’, or as Chris once put it: “Our smoke on the water.”
It’s one of the songs that really caught my attention, when i first heard Obscura about 10 years back. Who’d have guessed that I once would play this song regularly...
Big thanks to Mathias Garmusch for always delivering a killer mix (no samples used, except for the kick).
And very important note to self - never mount the over head mic stands as boom arms directly onto the rack again! Harder cymbal hits will cause shaking and there for a strange sound on the OH signals (for example 3:07)!

I'm an old 80s drummer....so this music is not quite my cup of tea.....but I REALLY love watching you play....I'm just simply amazed at how fast, clean, precise and oh my goodness.....those feet......

Nicely stated. Dude’s a master of his craft. Rates at the very top of the extreme metal genre which is packed with phenomenal drummers. David can play anything too.
I live for the little subtle flourishes David adds to these Grossmann era tracks, and seeing David's technique and how he plays certain parts is like watching pure art 🙌
Tbh i prefer sebastian's version. I like more his style than david's one
Decided to check out this guy because of a reaction video... It's nuts how much talent is out there that somehow manages to stay out of the limelight

That’s a nice thing to hear, he seems like a great guy and man can he slay those drums! Been watching him progress for a few years and as a drummer myself, his skills are borderline superhuman.

Truth be told, this man is a huge inspiration to all of us drum lovers.
So interesting to watch David effortlessly attack this track after seeing Sebastian’s awesome version.

@@RTSRAZORBACK I don’t mind the kick effect. You need to be able to discern the intricacies of the double bass work in this track, so it’s crisp ... no doubt (but still has enough power imo). I feel ya though. I don’t believe Dave has ever employed the same trigger effect on his kicks more than once.
Edit : The dude has metahuman skills on a kit.
Effortlessly is spot on. Sebastian seems to put a lot of effort to nail the song, but Diepold is not even trying.
@@adrianfuentes8423 Word. Nailing this prolly was a breeze for David. I fully dig Sebastian’s cover of this track too though. Trippy how different they are, yet both renditions sound almost identical. The masters always add their own flavour without altering the track.

You're talking about the left hand I assume? Didn't he previously do more of a push-pull with the left hand?

I think it's just an in between speed. If it was faster he would most likely switch back to push pull.
That song has not enough speed for push pull technique.

I liked before it even started, this album dropped and me and my band in high school lost our fucking minds. We dead ass progressed as a band by learning this song as a band. Grossman taught me so much through traveling the same roads through his drum parts. They take so much understanding and where your hands need to be in two seconds as well as on the other side of the kit a half note after that. He's insanely talented. But so are you, you handsome devil! Great video!

Word. That’s what I dig about his style. He’s insanely fast, clean, accurate and metronomic, yet employs out of the ordinary combinations and even flam fills at times.

Hannes Grossman was the drummer for Necro at the time of Epitaph and for this particular Obscura album as well.... I might be wrong but if I'm correct that might be why they're similar haha
And unless I'm mistaken guitarist Christian Munzer? (Spelling is probably way off) also joined Obscura at that time as well

Great work. Respect for the 1 foot blasts. You sound much better than a lot of death metal drummers at shows do, whose techniques (specifically with bass drums) fall to pieces
