Nice! You’re right in saying that the man found with this on him used it as tinder, when it’s completely dried it is an amazing tinder which can burn for days without going out, crazy stuff!

judging by the way you cut it, you probably will need a plaster. enjoyed the vid :)

Didn't know about using it as a plaster. Been studying this one because it just popped up on the birch tree in my yard.

I had harvested a small young one. Meanwhile my cat is recovering from having his tail shut in a door. After watching this I made him a small plaster to wrap around his tail :) it was on for about 30 minutes, hopefully it did him some good :)

That does not look like a birch tree, there is a white birch behind you.

Horse hoof fungus is just another name for the Birch polypore ☺

@@michellesovereign4564 this is why colloquial names are useless when identifying and people should just stick with the latin names! bathingbeaty01 is talking about fomes fomentarius, which is called hoof fungus pretty much everywhere, so she is not wrong. in fact, fomes fomentarius WAS found on otzi the iceman as well. he would have used that one for tinder and this one for medicine, presumably.

Nice! You’re right in saying that the man found with this on him used it as tinder - when it’s completely dried it is an amazing tinder which can burn slowly for days without going out, crazy stuff!
