Last weekend, while on a family hike, my son and I were looking for chaga since there was a lot of white and river birch in the area. We found birch polypores but didn't know they were an excellent medicinal as well, so we left them. Now, I'm planning to go back to that trail so I can harvest the polypores. Thank you for this excellent, informative video!
Really pleased you found it useful! Unfortunately for me chaga doesn't grow in my part of the world. I need to head north to Scotland but I will be taking a look around in Finland this December 😀
I thought the mushroom cried when you cut it but it was the cat 🤣 drinking lots of chaga & birch polypore tea here in Sweden. thanks for linking to the studies!
😂 that made me laugh thank you! Diddums is quite vocal all the time - usually when I want some quiet to film a video! You must be enjoying the chaga! It’s not at all common here in the south of England. It’s far more abundant further north. Thanks for watching and for taking time to comment 😀
You can also include turkey tail mushrooms and the arnica plant in these natural remedies. Scottish international rugby star, Finn Russel, takes these things to cure injuries and relieve pain naturally, he learned these things from his mum. You can check out his story in the 'Sottish Daily Express' newspaper. He's gone o to win 62 Scotland caps as a result of taking natural treatments.
Just started collecting some the past few weeks, should keep us going throughout the winter. What I also found and identified is my first Chaga, but it's a bit to high to get unless I come up with a cunning plan !
I usually put a small pinch of salt into my tea and coffee water before brewing. It really does cut the bitterness ! Would it be okay to do the same when making tea from this polypore ? Wanted to be sure the salt doesnt chemically alter the medicinal qualility of the brew. Thank you, the video is clear and very helpful . North Carolina, USA
I add the polypore to soups with salt content and don’t have any issues but I couldn’t tell you definitively without looking into it specifically I’m afraid! Glad you liked the video and thanks for the feedback!
I brewed up Birch Polypore tea all last week for this never ending cough. No sugar coating - it tastes awful. I just drink it straight and chase it at the end with a shot of tomato juice. No way I could get my wife to drink it. This week I switched to Chaga and actually like it. My wife and I are both drinking it now. With either you can take a cup out then put more water in. You can do this at least a half dozen times and still get a nice dark drink. Just don't let it boil - slow simmer for an hour or so to start. When you are ready to do a new batch you can put all the "leavings" in a pot or bucket and save it for your vegetable garden.
Thanks for sharing! I know many people don’t like the bitter taste but tbh I don’t find it too bad. My youngest daughter quite likes drinking it but the other detests it! 😀
I'm confused. I've never heard of Birch Polypore. I've heard of Chaga, but I don't know if this is the same thing. I think people should learn more about identifying Birch trees and Birch Polypore, as opposed to similar looking plants. It's a wild mushroom. Many plants have look-a-likes.
I've ordered and started taking a polypore tincture as of today. Simply because I travel on buses a lot and get colds twice a month and I'm literally sick of it! I sincerely hope this will aid me in repelling this pesky cold bugs!
@liveandgrow thanks for reply! I boiled a whole mushroom aprox 15cm in size in 250ml of water. I'm not sure if I haven't made it too strong. I boiled it for 2-3h on low heat. One tablespoon of this tea and I honestly feel high. There was nothing else in it. And I'm confident I have the right mushroom. It could be just me and how I'm responding. My sister in law tried and it did not have any effect on her.

😂😂😂😂😂me too!
Turkeytail 🦃🍄mushroom is another good one.
Hey, absolutely! It’s on my list of ones to cover! I sometimes make a blend of birch polypore, turkey tail and artist bracket if I’m very poorly! 😀
I mix my mushroom teas with my favorite teas
Really interesting video. Never knew Birch Polypore had these benefits. Will give this a try. Thanks

I found one growing on my burning wood a few days ago. I know now what I'm gonna do with it. Thanks
Glad you found the video useful! 😀

That’s great! Unfortunately for me chaga doesn’t grow anywhere around me. Not the right environment for it!

Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion!

I enjoy it as a tea with liquorice root for sweetness 🪬

Chaga is a different fungi. Very different in looks. It’s very uncommon where I live but the Birch Polypore is very abundant!
Nice. Thanks

I make biochar from dead mushrooms to grow more mushrooms 🏴☠️🇨🇦☮️

Good luck with it! Vitamin D is something to consider if you’re not taking that already - I always do in the Autumn and Winter months.
@@liveandgrow thank you, yep taking that now too!
I had it yesterday as tea and got high are they psychodelic?😮
What else was in the tea!? 😀 Absolutely not psychedelic. My kids drink a fair amount of Birch Polypore tea as well as myself.

@@roszkubI had a similar experience, wouldn’t say that I felt high but definitely a strong sense of elation after having some.
Can i use it for tea without drying it first?
You sure can!
@liveandgrow Seemed logical, but you never know. Thank you!
Looks very much like a pancake
