@joi_is _love333 Ten years ago perhaps. I thought a decade ago that UFC will put the final nail on pro wrestling's coffin. But UFC and MMA hype declined, and pro wrestling thrived. Why else would Conor face Mayweather? Why did the biggest stars in Ronda and Lesnar left to go to WWE? Why did Dana actually watched Wrestlemania live, when just almost a decade before Undertaker watched UFC live? I don't know if you can see it or not but UFC hasn't produced a huge superstar since Conor, and pro wrestling, by its nature, thrives in drama and theatrics to make superstars. And would you look at that, they just tweaked Reigns a little bit and he's again the hottest thing. It was not a long time ago when people started to reference "UFC" or "MMA" when they see grappling in other stuff. Now it's reverted back to "WWE" or "pro wrestling". And based on that cinematic Boneyard Match, wrestling might have in their hands another appeal that can last them long another decade or so, i don't know about UFC and MMA though.
@joi_is _love333 Fair point. I guess my gist in my tl;dr is that I honestly thought UFC then would be the new coolest combat sport for men, completely replacing wrestling and it becoming an afterthought (though WWE's inability to create newer stars is mainly because of their eccentric 70-year-old owner). Well we can all agree that UFC has yet to reach what the Attitude Era or even what the Rock n Roll wrestling had reached, though Rome is indeed not built in a day. I only said the hype has declined, not MMA in general. I guess what I'm saying is whether it's fake pro wrestling or real mixed martial arts, it will need superstars to thrive.
Tony S Autistic has nothing to do with it. My cousin is autistic and was valedictorian of his high school and college and makes more money than probably me and you combined.
@@youresmarterthanmebut8867 I have no idea about about Meltzer, I've never paid any attention to him and only know about him at all from things like this. But your cousin doesn't prove anything about it for anyone else, its called a spectrum for a reason, it affects everyone who has it to different degrees and some can work around it better and be more successful than others.
Nah to a degree he's definitely out of touch. Omega is a top 3 wrestler in the world in all categories but Jim is only concerned with the match with the 9 year old girl, which she even said helped her career in the long run. And the blow up doll match. How many MFs in WWE right now would be able to have a match with 9 year old & pull it off without a hitch the way Omega did?
Matt D I wouldn’t call that out of touch as much as it is one of Cornette’s (unhealthy) inability to forgive people’s past... this madness aside he does a really good job breaking down matches; he is not out of touch in terms of wrestling but I would agree in terms of what is hip now.
Kevin Jackson he has to be working Corny. There’s no way he really believes some of things he’s said recently. He’s just pandering to the AEW fanboys, and trying to get Corny to freak out. And...it’s working 😂😂
I don't necessarily agree with every single thing Jim says about the wrestling business, although I do tend to agree noticeably more than disagree, but Dave Meltzer has no reason to be going after Jim like he has been. Jim's gone out of his way to be diplomatic with Dave, this is some well deserved blowback for Dave Meltzer. He's gotten really sanctimonious and full of himself over AEW and the Young Bucks and overvaluing his opinion, Jim taking him down a peg is great, even if Dave and Omega and the Bucks probably won't change their tune anytime soon.
@@twistedimagev2 See, there you go, you just outed yourself as the worst kind of example of indie fan, assuming I'm just all 100% anti AEW and 100% pro WWE, like I'm out here just out here sniffing Vince's farts and saying they smell like roses because I'm criticising your holy trinity of Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks and Dave Meltzer. Gonna make a tl;dr because I have a tendency to go on. Here it is: You're making a lot of assumptions about me by dismissing my opinion as me being a "Corny fanboy" and "delusional" and ending with "Enjoy your WWE." Want details? You get to choose your own adventure and read as much or as little as you like! Here you go. Have fun. It's late, I'm home, I have all the time in the world to write and this is a good way to kill some time. Dave has been taking potshots at Jim. I'm not saying he's been actively calling Jim out and saying "Hey Jim, I think you're a twat and your dick is small!", but he is taking shots, while Jim has largely left Dave out of his most hostile criticisms. Did Jim go overboard? Yeah, he tends to do that. Diagnosing Dave as on the autism spectrum on air, even if through someone else's words was innapropriate. Did Dave bring some of the rest of this on himself though? Absolutely. And you're doing just what Dave does on Twitter too, thumbing your nose at and patronizing any and all criticism as "out of touch, you just don't understand, blah blah blah." Pretending AEW is perfect won't make it perfect, nor will pretending Kenny Omega has any idea how to book a wrestling show. AEW has it's upsides and downsides, just like WWE. Let's start with WWE: They have cheesy, lame, soap opera stories on the main roster and they limit the wrestlers' creative freedom, particularly, again, on the main roster. NXT is however a generally consistently strong show, so my criticism will center on main roster. They have a hollow, lifeless main roster tag division. I genuinely can't remember who holds the belts sometimes. Pretty sure the New Day have one set, no clue who has the other. The US Title is just utterly devoid of life too. Onto AEW: They are over reliant on high spots, which results in them meaning less and less every single time you see them. How many times can you watch 20 diving flips over the rope in the same show every week before it gets boring? There needs to be a balance between WWE's limited performance and AEW's overperformance. I'm already at my limit on spots. Their tag matches are unstructured with no regard for the actual ruleset of a tag match and impossible to keep up with. "Well it's all scripted, so who cares about the rules?" Well, the rules exist so the viewers can follow what is happening. Without the rules of a match, nothing that is happening will matter. Who's the legal man? What happened to a count of five to get out of the ring when you aren't legal? These are basic things that are important to keep a match like this organized and easy to follow. The women's division is a trash heap. You have a 90 pound girl with more wins than anyone else in the division, including your monster heel Nyla Rose. The whole thing has been dragged down by Brandi Rhodes' vanity project. Hopefully they can move on, put the belt on Nyla Rose and bury the fuck out of Riho, because you can't actually take her seriously. It isn't beyond saving, but we are approaching critical condition. They have a dire lack of anything at stake outside the men's world title. If you're in the mid card, you have no reason to fight. There's no IC, US or Tv title and as there are no stakes, no thought seeks to be put into anything that happens. Feuds stop and start, feuds disappear, feuds go nowhere, they have no conclusion and no end goal. The Dark Order are terrible. Their bdsm look is lame, that incident with the punches will forever hang over their head, even though it was blown out of proportion, I just can't see them being a big deal like the Wyatt Family did, or going further back, The Ministry. The Dark Order are much more The Brood, than The Ministry. Kenny Omega is the most criminally overrated wrestler of the modern era. He's a pretty good, athletic worker, who cuts bad promos and got lead to some stellar matches in Japan by a masterful worker like Okada and a booking staff who kept his worst urges in check. Now we are seeing Omega unleashed and it is not good. Worse still, he has the book and is bungling it. For the record, I had more to say about AEW than WWE not because I think AEW is worse than main roster WWE, but because I have more recently thought about it, so my issues with AEW are fresher in my mind. I do however think NXT is better than AEW, but that is another discussion entirely. So you see? I take issue with both companies. I also still overall like both companies. It's okay to do that. We don't have to be so tribal about "Me like this company and if you like other company, you bad person and me yell at you." I don't like Dave Meltzer, I'm sick of his sanctimonious, patronizing attitude online, I like Jim, but take issue with some of his opinons and realize he has gone overboard more than a few times. There you go.

I don't understand this whole "not keeping up with the times argument." Good wrestling is good regardless of age. Rolex has been making watches for 100 years using technology what became obsolete about 40 years ago. They sell for thousands of dollars per watch and Rolex has perpetual shortages; they literally can't build enough of them. Things that are good are good and things that are bad are bad, it doesn't matter how new or old they are.

Molotov Foxtail I’ve always kind of suspected this myself. I think a lot of people have. Partly for reasons the writer says but some other things too (Dave’s approach to humor for example). I had just never connected his possible psychological peculiarities to his wrestling tastes. I think Dave is a good guy and I like his work despite his idiosyncrasies.
"...which frequently misread and/or misportray the author's intent..." is a precise description of my experiences corresponding with him 30-35 years ago
The problem is... It is the reason that modern autistics are as problematic as they are. The complete removal of expectation that autistics put any work into social interaction skills.
Omega Vs Okada was good for sure, But better than Flair Vs Steamboat????? Yeeeeah he's smoking crack and on AEW or on Kenny and Bucks payroll!!!! Flair Vs Steamboat IS the GOAT match in my opinion
As someone with high functioning autism myself, the theory of Dave having it makes a lot of sense to me. I often like goofy bits in wresting myself but up to a certain degree and amount (for instance, Omega's stuff to me just feels like what Shinsuke Nakamura does but he lacks the charisma and charm to get away with it), plus often stay with various shows and programs that I enjoy even though I can't see much of the flaws in them that others do.
Last one and it goes to the argument that Dave uses when he tries to say that wrestlers from the 60s and early 70s thought 80s wrestling had destroyed professional wrestling. I started watching wrestling in the mid-80s and I gave up on it in the mid to thousands. Now wrestling from 1985 to 1990 changed, wrestling from 1990 to 1993 changed, wrestling from 1993 to 1997 changed, wrestling from 1997 to 2002 has changed. Wrestling has always changed and most of us, not all, but most of us were OK with it. However what is happened in the last 10 or 15 years is different from just the average evolution of professional wrestling. Now it doesn’t take itself serious at all. Even in the attitude era you could still get lost in the conflict between Steve Austin and the rock, no when you watch it it just feels like the whole thing is either a comedy sketch or a Hyspot show and I mean that for every company except the NWA. Yes I have known wrestling was a work since the first time I started watching it because everyone in my family told me it was fake and I shouldn’t watch it but it’s like going to the movies. I know that Robert De Niro really isn’t a gangster but I still love his performances. What I wouldn’t appreciate is Robert De Niro every 15 minutes looking at the camera going “ you know this is all bullshit right?” That’s the difference that Dave doesn’t see.
Fair enough, but the thing is that what constitutes "seriousness" is itself a matter of opinion. What I don't think Cornette understands is that to many people outside the wrestling fan bubble, the concept of grown men going to extreme lengths to preserve the sanctity of fake fighting actually comes off as sillier than anything the modern guys who admit what they do is a form of performance art can possibly do. I don't say that to demean anyone's opinions or tastes, but it is what it is.

The standard changed when the first generation of TNA/ROH got accepted and got over in WWE and New Japan but what YBs and Omega don't understand is guys like Punk and Bryan changed and adjusted their style to evolve, however they convinced fans that strayed away that wrestling had changed and they sponged off the opportunity Punk and Bryan made.
@ericlogos TNA was good up until Hulk Hogan came. Then it started to suck. Don't drink the kool aid, TNA was an extremely viable alternative and there was a reason why they got cocky enough to think that they could come at the king, WWE.
@ericlogos I'll agree halfway, TNA was the WWE crash pad but it didn't always suck, they had good shit but Everytime shit got good they'd get kneecapped by various people and factors, there were various times Smackdown was so good it made Raw look like trash so the McMahons would purposely cripple it. NXT is Vince and HHH saying "why watch those nothing organizations your indie favorites are here" the one good thing is they're starting to leave the indie spot style behind. Let's continue to keep in mind that Meltzer is essentially working for AEW. It's his shot at finally getting back at the WWF/E for the feud they've had going back decades.
I definitely get why some people don't like Jim Cornette but this silly narrative some of those that don't like him push(referring specifically to brandi's comment but also to the argument in general), that he's somehow a WWE suck up, or desperate for a WWE job is ridiculous. He might not mind Vince McMahon on a personal level but he also blames him for mostly everything that is wrong with wrestling today. Bar NXT, he'll say virtually nothing good about the current WWE product either. A job in present day WWE would probably kill him, via stress, in a few months. He doesn't want one. My bet is it suits the narrative of 'us vs them' that Jim Cornette is one of 'them' rather than a guy that just hates mostly everyone. It's easy to ignore the opinion of someone talking shit about someone/something you like, if you can write them off as being biased but if someone is neutral it gets uncomfortable because it means there could be a grain of truth in what they say.
@@SensiofRabbitude Spot on. I love Jim even though I disagree with him at times and find a bit more enjoyment in the modern product than he does. WM 30 is the best example of what Corny envisions pro wrestling should be. DBry is the prototypical indy midget people talk about these days, but because HHH and Evolution took him seriously, they seriously put him over that night, and he became a legit wrestling star. Now DBry is a bonafide veteran WWE guy. That's how really pro wrestling works.
Repetitive stolen finishers, near pinfalls and (albeit extremely athletic) ballet-esque choreography are some of the things that quickly put me off watching wrestling when I came back to it after The Rock and Brock returned in 2012. To be brutally honest I was also not impressed when I just saw non-athletic goofy looking hypertrophic juice heads in spandex performing boring matches. I also miss watching the top draw wrestlers, some of whom actually looked like real killers (one of them really was!) and had an element of mystique about them. Maybe it was just good steroids and growth hormones that gave the right personality types the right look and athleticism as well. Maybe this was killed in the aftermath of the Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit tragedies. Social media also wasn't as ubiquitous as it is now. I'm not sure what type of booking factors into to the most profitable business model and to be quite honest I don't care enough to research (as I'm not going to make any profit) but for me as a former fan, I enjoyed watching from 2002 to 2007 when you had those real alpha top stars who did not look like randomers you'd see in the street and who had finishers that would actually end a match. Once again though, that doesn't mean going the way of finding some juice head in a gym just because of their size. Matches and promos that involved Lesnar in 2002, Batista 2005-2007, Chris Benoit 2004, Kurt Angle 2006, John Cena 2005-2007 and Undertaker 2007 - even Goldberg in 2003 - had more of selling aspect to them because of this: You wanted to see Lesnar sadistically and explosively suplexing and backbreaking his opponent, and possibly winning against the top baby face if he hit an F5. You wanted to see a 6 foot 5 deep voiced player (I'm not gay but if you're gay that's cool) turn up in his suit and championship belt and use his raw strength, power, determination and aggression to last out the heel's cheap attacks and finally hit the spine buster and powerbomb for the win, with that crazy energy fuelled look in his eyes. You wanted to see the cold-eyed, fast, technical and aggro wrestler grappling someone slightly bigger than them with speed and aggression, completing a suplex so fast that if you blinked you'd miss it and getting in their submission / Jack knife pinfall at the right time against someone twice their size either by technique or just pure luck. You wanted to see the wrestler who could get serious elevation using a chokeslam and a wrestler that if he hit the tombstone, you knew it was game over. You wanted to see someone who used to slam their opponents so loudly on the mat that it shook the bass on your TV speakers and who had the gorilla press slam, spear and jackhammer that could bruised ribs just watching through a TV screen. I think a promotion with enough exposure could reboot and change the way a wrestling match plays out. Make it look like a real fight with people who look like real killers, be smart and sophisticated with the promos (don't rush the bookings) and create enough mystique not to overly expose them to the public eye.
@Mauricio93201 But you guys would be the same guys shooting sh_t about the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega doing insane matches though..If AEW does something like that you all would be going nuts on how stupid it is but when WWE do something stupid people don't say a word or just find some way to defend it.. I know Russo and Cornette are sworn enemies and they will never be friends etc etc. But whether they like it or not they agree on so many topics. Possibly none more than Dave.
It needs to plainly be said that, AEW will never grow with what is currently on TV. They'll sit at the 1.0 rating they have and it will slowly drop. Dave keeps bragging they're doing well for a start up, while Jim is saying to go main stream they have to change all the stupid and honestly boring shit they're doing. I think Jim is right here and time will tell.
Maybe not, but I think one of the points is that they don't really have a particularly pressing need to grow given that their present level of popularity is sufficient to give them at least a fair amount of commercial success. Just my opinion, but I think that's probably one of the sources of Dave's frustration with Cornette. Cornette has admitted that he overestimated the number of viewers AEW needed to find success with TNT he can't take a step back and make the further connection that the mechanics of the business have changed from what he knows and he may not know as much as he thinks he does about running a successful promotion in 2020 because it's fundamentally different than it was back in his era.
@@timf7413 Great points. When Jim argues from the perspective of what the essence of pro wrestling is and how much of the modern product undermines those principles he is straight fire. Still, when he begins to argue from a pragmatic perspective (i.e. what will draw or lend toward long term financial viability) I think he makes a lot of assumptions and lacks the self awareness to search out potential blind spots in his thinking. MMA took a lot of pro wrestling fans away, and the answer to get them back is to make wrestling look phonier? This seems to be some people's thinking
It was just mma it was that all the televised wrestling here was crap. Wrestling has always looked fake. I dont think it looks any phonier today.
Wrestling fans left WAY before MMA/UFC took over years ago

Let's start with WWE:
They have cheesy, lame, soap opera stories on the main roster and they limit the wrestlers' creative freedom, particularly, again, on the main roster.
Onto AEW:
They are over reliant on high spots, which results in them meaning less and less every single time you see them.
We don't have to be so tribal about "Me like this company and if you like other company, you bad person and me yell at you."
I don't like Dave Meltzer, I'm sick of his sanctimonious, patronizing attitude online, I like Jim, but take issue with some of his opinons and realize he has gone overboard more than a few times.
There you go.

As someone with high functioning autism myself, the theory of Dave having it makes a lot of sense to me. I too am a autistic wrestling
Is there sometimes acts that every one goes crazy over and you just don't get at all
Like ellias for example

A job in present day WWE would probably kill him, via stress, in a few months. He doesn't want one.
My bet is it suits the narrative of 'us vs them' that Jim Cornette is one of 'them' rather than a guy that just hates mostly everyone. Kenny Omega is no longer cool to me. I see exactly why he hasn’t ended up in NXT. Cody Rhodes should definitely book everything in AEW, it’s obvious
Why he hasn't? The tried HARD to sign Kenny. Are you that clueless?
NXT lol
This holds SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE WEIGHT SINCE THE JOEY RYAN CANCELLATION🤷🏾♂️💯🤣
I honestly can't believe NAMBLA is a real thing. I thought it was just a South Park joke.
Try to find clips of the old Howard Stern radio show where he would call NAMBLA's hotline. The phone message is hilarious.
Oh I knew about them when Antifa was in the news over the last 2 years. Many of their wings endorse NAMBLA as does some sects of the LGBT community.
They even have a subtitle in the episode "this is NAMBLA actually believes"
It is the downside of freedom of speech.

"It would make him grow back the hair he's fucking lost."
Matches and promos that involved Lesnar in 2002, Batista 2005-2007, Chris Benoit 2004, Kurt Angle 2006, John Cena 2005-2007 and Undertaker 2007 - even Goldberg in 2003 - had more of selling aspect to them because of this:
You wanted to see Lesnar sadistically and explosively suplexing and backbreaking his opponent, and possibly winning against the top baby face if he hit an F5.
The Elite’s “act” insults my intelligence as a fan.
Hall and Oates are out of touch.
Lol nicely played
And out of time
Dave is outta his mind!
But I'm out of my head when they're not around.
Grandmaster level burial.
Up there with the Horner annihilation
If they remake the movie where Micheal Douglas goes loco on society but with wrestling, they should cast Jim Cornette.
Best comment ever. So true
Falling Down is the film.
For anyone who's curious, NAMBLA stands for North American Marlon Brando Lookalike Association

Wrestling is subjective, eating cow shit is not subjective
I loved the bit when Corny took a deep in-take of breath before reading Dave's statement about Nick Jackson being the modern Bobby Eaton, haha!
Meltzer compared Nick Jackson to Bobby Eaton?!? He's either stupid or on Tony Khan's payroll.
Nick Jackson is the most talented member in the most over tag team in North America. Just like Bobby Eaton was.
@@kevinstanfield1268 They WERE one of the most over tag teams in North America. They are not that way anymore. They have cooled off.

@Joe Greene the are working in front of the same amount of people as any team on Raw and before AEW they worked in front of 70,000 in the Tokyo dome. You simply don't know what you are talking about.
@@al5306 the midnights eventually cooled off too. Young Bucks have been on top for the better part of the last decade.

I'm so glad I found this account last week, I haven't watched wrestling for years but your videos are addictive
"don't google that!" Lmao thanks, Brian
Love him or not, Cornette is a man who stands up for what he believes. And a big cheers for him speaking out for the world to hear it all.
That's in now... posting your opinion as fact.
The standard changed, like everything in pro wrestling, because of Vince. So much so that there is no pro wrestling anymore, there is only “sports entertainment”
And this "evolution" they talk so much about, it really is going from sports entertainment to SPOTS entertainment.
Dave definitely got under Jim's skin with the BS comparison between Bobby Eaton and Nick Jackson
Actually, the Dentist from Seinfeld, Tim Whatley (played by Bryan Cranston), who was a recurring character as a love interest of Elaine's, converts from Christianity to Judaism so that he can tell jokes about Jews without being perceived as anti-Semitic. Great episode.
I had my suspicions of Dave being on the spectrum when he equated "Mark" to the N-word and those suspicions became much greater after the Peyton Royce situation.
I know Russo and Cornette are sworn enemies and they will never be friends etc etc.
But whether they like it or not they agree on so many topics. Possibly none more than Dave.
I gotta say, Jim Cornette always inspires me to exercise and defend my first amendment rights. Thanks Corny.
I think he is sincere in his stubbornness, but I also think it plays into his character/gimmick.
@@greghughes6098 Agree they have done well. I also think it's possible they might be able to hook in a few more viewers if they abandon stupid shit like the Nightmare Collective, Dark Order, the Alien chick and 90% of the rest of the women's division, and stick to a solid blend of classic story telling (e.g. Cody's angles) and some of the new stuff (minus ridiculous shit like the Street Fighter costumes and invisible force field bullshit).
greg hughes even when I read f4W the AEW live results says the angles stink and the wrestling is awesome.
Lobo's Top 5 Brian hit the nail on the head a few months ago when he said they've "capped" their audience. They're unable to bring in people outside of their bubble who don't understand why their booking would baffle newcomers and drive them off
