For anyone interested in translating any of Dave's star ratings, try "Meltzer Math". Take the rating, multiply it by the number of people on his Christmas card list, take the square root of that, and subtract one star if there's more than six people, a second if it exceeds 25 minutes, and a third if it exceeds 40 minutes. If applicable, the Tokyodome is a wild card that can be used to adjust as needed.
According to Dave's logic Ultimate Warrior winning the Intercontinental Title at Summerslam is a 5 star match. For starters the crowd was popping huge to start with but at the end of the match it was twice as loud. Secondly the fact the match lasted 30 seconds definitely was surprising
Thats the thing that gets me is Dave will justify stupid stuff the bucks do and says "it works for that audience". Yet he would shit on the likes of Warrior and Goldberg. They stuff they did worked for that audience and they drew a hell of a lot more money/viewers then the bucks
Dave gave The Wyatts vs The Shield at Elimination Chamber (2014) a 4.25 rating. How he can think anything Moxley has done in AEW is better than that is beyond me.
Also by Dave’s own explanation why didn’t he give rock vs hogan 5 stars. The crowd was super hot, the match was really good, the finish was good and the finish led to hogan turning babyface and accomplished something so by Dave’s own logic that match should have been 5 stars but it wasn’t it was like 3 1/4 stars. That’s just one example. What Dave should say is “I give all my friends that name moves after me and put me over bc I really want to be liked and feel important 5 stars”
No surprise, he hates Hogan. Hogan vs. Andre was originally rated -4 stars by him, until he was pressured by his readers and he gave it +1 star. Hey Dave, what's 2+2? Dave: Well, I, I think it depends on, well you see if maybe your friend, and well if you have 2 or 2.5 then I think that maybe, it's like you you gotta assume that it's no more than just 2. So once you have two, I mean IF you have two then it's like, 2+2 I mean that's up to interpretation if you think about it. 2+2 today is like, not the same thing as 2+2 to others if you think about it. It's like back in the 1970s 2+2 was like, you like that, you know. But but if if today's 2 is anything like the way two was years ago then I think that has a major affect on what 2+2 is actually trying to tell you, you know?
You would think for someone that has been doing this for 40 years, he'd have a formula he could recite in his sleep, but he seems to be somehow caught off-guard by the questions (or trying to avoid being accountable for the criticisms)

This. You can hear the brakes in his mind screeching as he continues to contradict what makes a 5 star match.
He doesnt wantto be held to account is part of it. He wants the " its just my opinion" cop out ready in case he needs it.
CVV tried so hard to respectfully allow Dave to make this entire thing make sense and Dave just couldn’t do it. Dave is so steadfast to not come out and say that it’s simply a reflection of his preferences that he looks sillier every time he talks about it. If he’d stop trying to pretend that it’s some objective measurement of anything and just acknowledge what it actually is people would stop going after him so much. People get annoyed because he refuses to concede what his system actually is and how it isn’t any objective measurement of quality and he ends up looking like a good.
If I had a shot for every "you know " and stutter from Meltzer says in the interview, I would have died from liver failure by now. It´s incredible how Meltzer can´t express a coherent thought to save his life, it took him 20 minutes to say " I don´t give 5 stars to WWE because It´s not the wrestling style that I like".
Jim, 5 stars on this and 5 stars on the Matt Hardy video. Keep up the good work.
6 stars if this happens in Tokyo 🤣🤣🤣

CVV has always been a journalist, who is also a wrestling fan. Dave has always been a MARK and is larping as a journalist.
Perfectly stated
First Matt Hardy, now this Dave Meltzer vid. And in the near future, we get Jims response on Omegas meltdown, about people criticizing him doing a Tiger Driver 91. The world of pro wrestling has no slow summer.
I can't wait to hear what Jim has to say about Omega's meltdown. 😁
Happy feet had a meltdown. Please give me a link
Did he do a Tiger Driver 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, and 2000 ALL THE WAY IN JAAAHHHPPPPAAAAÀAAAAYYYYYYYAAÀAAAANNNNNNN!!!!!!
When Dave said a 5 star match has to be “ELITE ELITE ELITE” I fucking busted out laughing.
Best WWE match I ever saw was Hardys vs Edge and Christian in ladder match for Tag belts. Both teams were spent at the end I was shocked that none were hospitalized.
I’ve been looking forward to this, ever since the clips of Dave’s interview came out. I continue to question why people take Dave’s ranking seriously.
I question why people take Dave seriously at all.
It's mind boggling how people can actually believe this guy. 💀
@@virgilhawkins7368 I take Jim more seriously that Uncle Dave incoherent speaking and his "but plans changed" reasons. At least Jim would admit that he is wrong in certain thing than Uncle Dave giving a reasons rather that outright admitting his mistake
I think we all have a general idea of what a great match is; Savage/Steamboat, Undertaker/HBK, Angle/Benoit, Austin/Bret…etc. and we think “oh, this guy has a reputation for rating matches for decades….he must know what he’s doing”.
That’s what I figured, having paid very little attention to his ratings. But when you actually look at them it’s clear that there is no criteria, there are no qualifications, it’s just an old mark who is now seeking acceptance from the broom and blowup doll contingent.
@JM1993951 the criteria that Uncle Dave gave in the interview is a mere phony bullsh*t from him
Remember, Dave give Aew Parking Lot Brawl 5 star match 😅😂
And Rock/Hogan WM18 was 3*. That pretty much says it all.
If it’s about the audience reaction, how does he explain Rock vs Hogan getting 3 stars?
Because Hogan. That's it.
I love that Brian got such a huge kick out of that vinegar joke
I love when I realize when the thumbnail art, matches up with a quote or section in the segment
What is hysterical to me is that Dave used to be able to tell the difference between the marks, the smart fans and the wrestlers and now he can’t tell the difference between all of them. Now Dave and the wrestlers are the marks.
Uncle Dave because the markiest if them all....
He’s the pied piper of marks currently
He also used to be able to speak. Now I have no idea what's coming out of his mouth.
It's amazing to hear how many words Meltzer uses to say absolutely nothing.
Reminds me of Tony on Ariels show 🤣
@@Melo_Soul yeah, Tony does the corporate non-answer thing while his eyes bug out of his head, and Dave chews on marbles and calls them words.... both take 8 mins to answer a "yes or no" question.... saying both yes and no, while somehow not saying either... 🤣
Word salad
That's literally how he's made any kind of name for himself. You ever see some of those Observer issues??? Just *walls* of rambling text.
He's the original influencer. His entire thing is just....non-stop content. It's meaningless, but it's non stop. This dude every week on his show will ramble on and on about why AEW got a .0000001 rating this week and a .0000002 rating last week. MEANINGLESS nonsense.
He's an absolute hack and he needs to go away.
@@chrischar9428 salad is giving it too much credit
And I bet even Dave can barely recall anything from those supposed 5 star Moxley matches
I've called him a lazy ass in WWE and when he left and saw saw what's happening to him he's a fake tough guy
Blood. He remembers blood.
The thing he’s desperately trying not to say is that he wants five stars to be incredibly hard to attain for wrestling overall, but he also has a vested interest in the people he anointed as the best currently working to be seen at that level, and he wants AEW to be perceived as the greatest wrestling company currently running, so the best way to accomplish that in his mind is to pump them full of stars as quickly as possible.
What was the reference around 27:20-27:45, again from 'Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes'?...
I don't get it.
