40 mins??? YEAH
I agree. Fewer 5 minute clips. More 30+ minute clips.
YEAHHH
No thanks
Yeah but how much is gonna be an ad read?
We're not worthy! Lol
Dave is so up his own arse in the meta analysis of wrestling. He doesn’t understand that in Kayfabe your best wrestling match would be a one minute squash of an opponent. The best wrestler would not go 20 minutes with anyone. His own rating system of wrestling in a vacuum is blocking out Kayfabe sense
I bet he's so confused about how Bron Breakker is booked on Raw.
@@niranu78 “Bron didn’t show off 20 different flips and holds in a 30 minute classic, they are making him look weak” - Dave
That is the thing I have seen a lot of in AEW. They put what are supposed to be main eventers out there with absolute nobodies. Then those supposed stars have to take 15-20 minutes and barely win. That is beyond silly. In any other era it would be a squash, where if you kinda liked the underneath guy he would get the start of a hope spot, then done.
This is a great point and pretty similar to a thought I had while listening to this… Dave seems to be at the point where someone like Toni Storm, a world champion, having a heatless competitive 7 minute match with an inexperienced opponent is actually a great display of how good of a wrestler she is, because she can go that long with someone who’s green and make them look alright. Which is all good a fine, Toni is definitely a good hand, but the point is that it doesn’t make any booking sense when trying to build an angle for a championship match not even two weeks away with a different wrestler who’s known for being a technician and a badass.
It’s a microcosm of Dave and the IWC’s mark mentality, which is that they’re watching not for the angles, the stories or the personalities; they’re watching to see how many moves each wrestler can do in their choreographed routine and how long they can do it for. And that’s precisely why Dave blathers out the word “match” as often as he does… to him, the professional wrestling experience is sitting at home by himself in front of a television or computer and watching matches after they’ve originally aired, often without commentary he understands, and being impressed by how long the match went on and how many flashy suplexes were done, with bonus points awarded if the wrestlers actually look like wrestlers and if the crowd is large and excited about the event.
It’s such a soulless and pathetic way to enjoy wrestling, which is why it appeals so much to the type of people who don’t have a life outside of this shit… Dave and his followers have fully convinced themselves that their understanding of professional wrestling is superior to everyone else’s, and since they don’t have anything else, they can’t let it go.
@@jackieparmzI’ve been echoing the same sentiment for a while now and you’ve articulated it brilliantly. Well put.

Only thing that woulda made the artwork better is if Uncle Dave was dressed like Teddy Roosevelt charging San Juan Hill.
Imagine your watching Avengers with Dave and all of a sudden, Thanos is switching between being the villain and the hero. Dave defends it with, "As long as the fight between the Avengers and Thanos is great, does it matter who is the hero or the villain?" tf kinda logic is that? lmfao
Uncle Dave would argue: "Well DC characters switch between heroes and villains all the time too."
@@markdawson7255 which is hilarious, considering in DC when people go from hero to villain, they usually stay villains
Thanos does switch when he explains why he did it and you see they are all shades of grey - that's part of the story. You missed that? 🤔

Dave Meltzer. Aew mental gymnastics champion.
The Brian "IT'S NOT MY JOB" Alverez face turn has been delightful
HE'S NOT A HEEL!!!
Bryan Alvarez's gobsmacked response of "Bronson Reed and Chad Gable??" made me spit out my drink 😂😂
Reed/Gable was back when both of them where potential IC title worthy competitors, both were Tweeners (neither face nor heel persay) like what Dave was failing to articulate in this clip. Tweeners can work... until they turn face/heel irrevocably.
Reed turned heel irrevocably doing the Endless Tsunami on Seth Rollins and R-Truth. Gable turned heel beating Sami Zayn's ass after he lost the IC title match in Sami's hometown in front of Sami's family.
They are heels, and get booed as they should. Versus most heels getting cheered in AEW bc of the mercurial booking that flip-flops a babyheel into a nuclear heat face
This drops 20 minutes into my birthday.
Thank you, Corny. ☺

As soon as i saw this was 40 minutes i cleared my scheduled and told my kids to go away
Bronson Reed vs Gable was heel vs heel. One is just a bigger heel than the other. I must have missed the part where Bronson Reed was willing the fans on to get behind him and making comebacks and being the babyface in peril selling like Ricky Morton
Last night mega baby face, Reed did a promo basically saying I love to hurt people for moneyyyyyy, brrrrrother
Yeah. They are both heels. Gable is just a level above Reed and the crowd wanted him to lose.
Both heels, showing they're both threats to face Sami.
It was also like 2 minutes long when Sami interfered. HORRIBLE example by Dave.
Meltzer keeps falling deeper into the hole….while digging deeper in it😂😂
The main takeaway: just because fans are smarter to the business doesn't mean you abandon what works,, and making excuses for what isn't working helps no one.
Cornette dropping a line from Rush Hour wasn't on the bingo card but damn... bravo!

Brian Alvarez is finally talking about the things that others (including Jim and Brian) have been saying about AEW for a while. He mentioned how the storylines aren't making sense due to lack of clarity. More importantly, he's FINALLY acknowledging a lot of the AEW stars are in the same spot now as they were 5 years ago. His rant on AEW lately has been on the same level as his classic WCW 2000 and WWE 2019 rants.

Meltzer "I think about business"
We're just gonna let that slide, are we? 😅 This from someone who prefers a 7 star "work rate" match in front of 150 people to Hogan vs Rock at Wrestlemania.
Don't forget. Even though Toni Storm did the character change, she didn't know enough to change up her in ring style. She literally changed nothing about it. Unfortunately, the women's division such trash that nobody can even point that out to her.
Ha.
Right? I thought her moveset was gonna be old school or something, with arm drags and maybe a DDT as her finisher. You're supposed to be from the 1930's but your finisher is a snap piledriver? Or that super flippy DDT she did on Riho? Get tf out of here.

When Meltzer brought up Bronson Reed and Chad Gable you knew he was far in over his head. Gable is getting a heel push, but honestly who gives a single shit what Bronson Reed is doing right now? Is he a champion of anything? Does he have a title match coming up? Is he getting a push?
Good god Meltzer should be used for ad campaigns for dementia awareness.
It was a heel vs heel match…neither was presented as a babyface “based on the situation.” The next week Gable was still a heel and so was Reed

DEAR DAVE MELTZLER, RETIRE FROM COVERING PRO-WRESTLING. EVERYONE HAS TO RETIRE AT SONE POINT, YOUR TIME IS NOW YOUR TIME HAS PASSED SIR DAVE
I don't care who here's this, I LOVE Alvarez's commentary on any fucking wrestling
The fact that this review clip will do double or triple the numbers of the RUclips clip of it's actually reviewing amuses me
Dave has believed his own bs on combat tumbling for so long now, he can't backtrack. He deserves his face
Meltzer saying "Guess what?" all the time is unbelievably condescending and arrogant like he's the only person smart enough to understand things
This argument reminded me of the early days of AEW when Cody went 20 minutes competitive with Sonny Kiss
MidCardCodyno wishes he was as good as Sonny Kiss.
Where’s Sonny Kiss now?? Garbage Can Wankery, that’s where.
Cody and Punk own the Bucks Bratty MattyPeq.
If I had to guess, Dave doesn't want to criticize AEW's booking because he's probably helping Tony behind the scenes and giving him ideas.
I think this Is why I dislike Dave so much. He is so disingenuous.
It's basic story telling, and he knows that .
If WWE were doing the same thing he would be the first person to criticise it.
Reed vs Gable was heel vs heel. Reed wasn't a face and that was the point to show why both of em are a threat to Sami
Yep. Also, Sami blew up that match for a DQ and was clearly the babyface which helped set up the triple threat match at the PLE. It's like Dave doesn't even get the basics of pro wrestling anymore.
Yes, but here, Gable is a cheezy heel, Reed is an intimidating monster heel(who doesn't rely much on cheap tactics), they both had a match which ended in DQ after Babyface Sami Interfered the match because he has been the target for them for few weeks. The feud isn't a heel vs heel, the feud is a babybace Vs a Cheesy heel Vs a Monster heel. And the thing isn't just about being heel Vs heel, it's about how a babyface is acting like a heel while the heel is acting like a babyface which doesn't make sense and the constant switch between a heel and babyface without a reason. You know the way Tony Khan books, if some face gets booed this week in a match, he will book him as a heel in the next week match, but no explanation, no reason, he is now heel because he was getting booed. If some heel is getting cheered massively despite beating the shit out of another babyface. He will start to book him as babyface next week because crowd are rooting for him because of something. He doesn't bulid the face turn. He doesn't build most of the turns.
lmao no. Watch Otis as well. Heels and faces don't exist anymore. It's a normal evolution. Dave is actually right.
@MattyPeq Otis is a face being forced to do heelish things by his mentor Gable. He is tied right now because it's his best friend. it's his mentor, who gave him his opportunity in wwe, so he has been left with no choice but to listen. He hasn't turned on him yet because he has a sense of loyalty towards him. That's how sympathetic babyface is built, this will get him even more over as a face. If you can't separate that, then I don't know how you keep up with stories. The day Otis finally hits Gable, he will get a huge reaction. A similar sort of story has been in wrestling since forever, where someone is compelled to do bad things because of his mentor, tutor, but finally, he has enough. There's a reason he is compelled to do heelish things even though he is face when he has to, not like Tony Storm where without a reason someday she becomes face, someday she is heel. Dave has the dumbest take. He can't even give valid reason on why he thinks it is good and why it's not, when he has. He is just a knowledgeable wrestling historian, but the more I listen him the more it becomes clear he is far away from the indepth knowledge of wrestling business psychology. How can people take someone opinions seriously who can't even back up his reason for something he says clearly.
@MattyPeq just look at Wardlow and MJF story, Wardlow was a heel. He was a monster heel under MJF. He then, somewhere on the journey, developed some positivity. He had already become face from his heart, but he couldn't because he was tied with MJF's contract, who is a master manipulator. His contract wasn't with AEW, but with MJF. MJF gave him his job. So, even though MJF kept insulting him and talking smack with him, he had no choice but to listen him. He felt a sense of loyalty towards him. But one day, the MJF crossed that one line, which kept Wardlow with him, and finally, Wardlow got courage and a reason to hit MJF, but at what cost?? He lost his job, but looking at the progress he had done over years, he got an opportunity for a job with a match in aew, if he would win, he would get a job in aew. He won that match and then got signed with AEW . So, he finally, after all the drama, he became free from MJF. That's how Wardlow was built. But then, AEW completely fumbled the booking of Warlow, and now his worth has completely derailed.
I will add few extra words in Uncle Dave's sentence not only to make it better but also sum up the mess that is AEW.
"In this day and age, crowd is gonna do what crowd is gonna do..... With what they are presented in front of them" 😑😑
Meltzer can no longer comprehend that:
A. Fans can still cheer heels for being good heels.
Or
B. It makes more sense to just book faces vs. Heels other than just say "these two will have a good match, to hell with any reasoning behind it"
AEW stories have always been second or third priority to the action figure booking.

Dave meltzer has a need to be right even if it means logic be damned:
Dave has made the mistake of conflating his ego with a brand and now that this brand is struggling, Dave is melting down and will do anything to defend it cuz now, in his mind, AEW is Dave.
As it has been pointed out in the sane corners of Twitter, Dave has hitched his wagon to the AEW mule and has decided to ignore the canyon on the horizon.
Dave saying that this angle was "effective" is such crap. No it wasn't effective, because the crowd isn't supposed to be against Deeb! You are already losing week to week fans, and now you confuse what's left.

I've mentioned before that Bryan and Vinny used to have opinions not that unlike Jim's. There's always been some sharp differences, between Alvarez and Vegas and Cornette, but the other two were never that far away from Jim before this AEW thing started.
All I really wanted out of Bryan and Vinny was them to hold AEW to the same standards they held ROH, TNA, Dragon Gate USA. Bryan Alvarez was the kind of guy to tear into Chikara for doing something stupid, and he worked for the company! Incidents like this, baby steps in that direction. But they also prove Dave Meltzer is even worse when it comes AEW double standards. Why do so many people use kid gloves with Tony Khan's vanity project?
