    Thanks a lot. I like the way you explain this twist. Congratulations. It is important to do the turn well. It is so important how to explain it.

    I am teaching the open turn last week and my teaching progression suggests that the overhead hand flex and push off wall to increase rotational speed along with snapping of knees to chest. One particularly proficient breaststroker new to me was puzzled and said he was taught to keep his hand straight. That is what you said but the video clearly has the swimmer flexing at 120 degrees. Your thoughts? I like your videos. Very helpful thank you.

      Thanks for watching, and great question! The arm will naturally bend slightly at the elbow and wrist to accommodate some of the impact from hitting the wall. It's important to train swimmers not to pull themselves into the wall at this point.

    great video. coach and I have used it to help me develop my own open turn. I Have 2 hip, 2 knee replacements and rebuilt pelvis from car accident. That crunched up position is literally impossible for me as well for many aging baby boomers with those surgeries. I use the punching my brother, but adapt “calling my mother” to get my gimpy legs in position for a very good push off. These graphic names are fantastic for visualizing body position. I will have to come up with a new one for “calling my mom”…..maybe “texting my sister?”

    Great video! Thanks for doing this! I have two questions: 1. Do we drop our elbow with force? Almost like a freestyle stroke. Might help pull the legs in and aid rotation. 2. Does the hand that stays on the wall push the wall when it leaves the wall or should it just leave the wall with no extra force? Thanks!!

    Hey. Timely discussion for me. I’ve been playing with taking a short, out of rhythm last stroke into the wall lately as my stroke count is dropping from 8 to 7 SCY in Breast.That is 8 used to be just right but now it’s either 7 and glide in or take that short 8th. It feels crisper to me due to the extra momentum, but do you think it is a worthwhile trade off on turns (and even finish)? And while I’m here, thanks for all you do for the swimming community.

      Yes! It's never too late to learn. You can also learn flip turns here: ruclips.net/video/xlwY4TnU6rY/видео.html

    Why cant we do this in freestyle?

    • @fksebati
      @fksebati 4 года назад +2

      You can 100% do an open turn in Freestyle. You only need to touch the wall with one hand rather than both in breaststroke and butterfly.
