    So refreshing to listen to a medical doctor discuss the affect of diet on these issues. Thank you for your work.

    Fantastic video! I wish there were more functional doctors around the globe, they are so hard to find and lab tests are so expensive 🙈 But definitely it's worth checking them all and giving it a try from a dietary, lifestyle perspective, rather than masking the symptoms with medicine 😡

    Hello Dr Susan, are you able to provide the units you are measuring in? I am outside the USA and I need to convert the units to our pathology system.

    This is great information, however you are mentioning numbers without the units. Since you are in the US the units you use are different than what we use in Canada, for example, but probably elsewhere in the world. Since people around the world may be interested in your information it would be very helpful if you were to mention the units you are referring to when giving numbers. Thank you!🙏

    I have low thryoid, for no apparent reason. No antibodies, and my TSH is normal. Anyway, I am on thyroid meds, both T3 and T4. I wonder if I take iodine whether my thyroid levels would go up?

    My TPO antibodies are over 2000. I’ve been trying to get diagnosed for 35 years.

    Thank you for the great video dr. Susan! What do you think about eating soy with hypothyroidism?

    • @drsusan
      @drsusan  2 года назад

      I haven’t found soy to a problem. Great source of plant-based protein!

    • @blackpurplelily
      @blackpurplelily 2 года назад +2

      I have heard soy is terrible for us for many reasons. Most soy is GMO. Soy can inhibit proper thyroid function and can block the conversion of t4 to t3 and can block iodine. Soy is a phytoestrogen so can bind to our estrogen receptors, overwhelming our receptors with too much estrogen. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found high soy consumption increases risk of breast cancer. Studies have found soy consumption in men lead to lower testosterone levels and sperm counts because soy being a phytoestrogen triggers increased aromatization of testosterone. Overall, soy has a negative impact on our hormones. Soy is a saponin which is an immunological adjuvant triggering inflammation in the body. Soy bean oil is high in omega 6 (causing inflammation), low quality, barely shelf stable and is in 60% of foods we eat. There are powerful enzyme inhibitors within soy and they transfer to our body when we eat soy inhibiting our own proper enzyme function. When soy is processed, it creates a new amino acid that is not natural called Lysinoalanine which is difficult for our bodies to digest causing GI issues. Lastly, they use a very toxic solvent called Hexane to dehull the soy. There's no FDA regulation as to how much hexane is safe in soy beans. But FDA does relate fish and says only 5 parts per million of hexane is safe in fish. After soy beans are dehulled, they are left with 21 parts per million of hexane. This info is gathered from various studies and resources but I'm not a doctor and would love Dr Susan's opinion on this! Thanks!

    Dr. Susan, why do you prefer estradiol patch over pellets? Is there less risk of uterine bleeding with patches?

    • @drsusan
      @drsusan  Год назад +1

      I actually don’t prefer patches over pallets. I personally use pellets but patches are another good safe option and they are exactly the same substance- so there’s no difference in bleeding or any other side effects- but I just prefer not to have to change the patch every few days, so the pellet is more convenient for me

    Hello, thanks for the information. What are your thoughts on benchmarking these tests for someone who is not showing symptoms of thyroid dysfunction? Would you do a subset or full set of tests? Thank you.

    • @drsusan

      Hi Kerry, at the very minimum you could test for TSH, free T3, free T4 and TPO!

    If our iodine blood work says we’re ok on iodine level do we need to still supplement?

    • @drsusan
      @drsusan  2 года назад +3

      Iodine cannot be measured accurately in the blood. We’re wanting to measure how much iron you have stored in your body, not floating in your bloodstream. The only accurate way to measure it is with a 24-hour urine collection after taking a dose of iodine. So it’s reasonable to assume that we are low unless we have a very high iodine diet. Spot urine testing is not as accurate but can give you a general idea. The reality is it’s so difficult to check that we don’t generally check it.

    Does natural desiccated initiate molecular mimicry?

    • @drsusan
      @drsusan  2 года назад +1

      Hi Daria, it wouldn't be be classified as molecular mimicry, but some people do argue that if we have an antithyroid antibody, then taking additional thyroid could stimulate the antibody. But in fact we rarely see this to be the case and when anybody levels are followed for patients on desiccated thyroid I have never seen them go up. I think that’s a hypothetical concern but it isn’t actually a reality in my experience. Hope this helps!

  • @luzysombra5291

    Dr. Susan, for someone who hasn’t started medication yet, would it be better to take Armor or any other desiccated thyroid hormone, instead on Synthroid? or it would depend on how low your freet3 is?? I have been having hypothyroidism symptoms for the past two years and my Primary Doctor says unless my TSH is 10 they won’t give me medication. I have been buying my own
    tests online ( full thyroid panel) since she only tests TSH. I’ve keep on telling her TSH is a PITUITARY HORMONE. She recommended me to go to a psychologist and the endocrinologist suggested I should go to a psychiatrist. Both agree I have ANXIETY.
