    If I recall correctly, there was an old Jeremy Clarkson bit from the early 2000’s where he too was fighting the onboard speech system to do whatever it is supposed to do. Good to see nothing has changed in twenty years.

    The previous gen interior with the dual 12.3" displays in the same line & some more physical buttons was perfect. It's weird that they moved the center display lower on the dashboard

    • @pacmanc8103
      @pacmanc8103 2 месяца назад

      Clearly the movement down was intentional - primarily for easier eye and finger coordination. The previous generation’s screen, like BMW’s today in its bizarre curved screen, was placed too high and vertically for most people’s natural reach. I think the most frequent button I use - stereo volume - is on the steering wheel. The others - temperature, radio stations, etc., are easy to learn in a couple of days. The dash on this new model is light years from the old one, which was nice, but a big frumpy. I think it is much nicer looking with the aluminum bezeled big center screen that fits perfectly with the horizontal aluminum dash strips along the top and the matching bezel along the bottom of the dash. With open-pore maple/aluminum on the dash and the console, the interior on this one is stunning. The previous generation is an entirely different iteration of the E-class, at least to me.

    Digital LED headlamps are a must for this car - a $1000 option as a standalone. The Airmatic suspension with 4-wheel steering is $3200. Leather interior is around $3000 (2 packages required). Drivers Assistance Package $2000. Those 20” multispoke AMG wheels are $2000. The packages add up over the $70,000 base price. This well-equipped car is around $85,000, give or take. I suspect demand will exceed supply initially.

      You should test drive it and see what you think. It drives incredibly well. Powerful. Smooth. Quiet. You might change your mind.

      How about the driver’s assisted system with radar-guided cruise control - engineering losing its way? Rear seat side airbags? Rear-wheel steering? 9-speed automatic transmissions? Engineering most certainly has not lost its way. In my experience, there are easy screens to use and there are almost unintelligible ones - this one looks very intuitive and easy for smartphone users. I can definitely see myself learning in about a week exactly where the screen’s electronic buttons are for me to touch for commonly used functions.

    No no no to a 2.0L turbo. Those engines are too weak.
