Best decision KBB has made in last serveral years is to put Mike in front of the camera doing reviews. I appreciate his point of view and his honesty in reviewing this Mercedes...
I like the fact that he is taller and shows the good AND the bad. I wish he could of told us how much the Air-ride suspension package was and if you can get it on both models 😢
If I recall correctly, there was an old Jeremy Clarkson bit from the early 2000’s where he too was fighting the onboard speech system to do whatever it is supposed to do. Good to see nothing has changed in twenty years.
The previous gen interior with the dual 12.3" displays in the same line & some more physical buttons was perfect. It's weird that they moved the center display lower on the dashboard
Clearly the movement down was intentional - primarily for easier eye and finger coordination. The previous generation’s screen, like BMW’s today in its bizarre curved screen, was placed too high and vertically for most people’s natural reach. I think the most frequent button I use - stereo volume - is on the steering wheel. The others - temperature, radio stations, etc., are easy to learn in a couple of days. The dash on this new model is light years from the old one, which was nice, but a big frumpy. I think it is much nicer looking with the aluminum bezeled big center screen that fits perfectly with the horizontal aluminum dash strips along the top and the matching bezel along the bottom of the dash. With open-pore maple/aluminum on the dash and the console, the interior on this one is stunning. The previous generation is an entirely different iteration of the E-class, at least to me.
I'll be honest, the tech doesn't impress me. I don't need multiple screens. I want tactile buttons and switches, so I can easily access them when, you know, I'm driving. (which is the primary function of this thing on four wheels) I'd like to know how all this tech handles ten years of wear and tear...
Headlights not withstanding, I really love the overall stance and look. And that Verde Silver is perfection! Hyper-screen and wacky voice-command responses, no thanks. I could probably rock this 'Benz, but the leather pants? That's Danger-level cool! 😂
Great review as always Mike. The MB E Class is truly a beautiful sedan. As they have added so much tech to it, I truly hope they fixed the electric issues from previous versions and be prepared to pay a super penny to maintain it. We had the last version and just traded it in for a Lexus Es Luxury
