Sometimes, its a LOT more fun tearing stuff apart than building them back up. A few years ago, one of our local churches wanted to put in a soccer field for the kids so the pastor asked dad and our neighbor if we would help out with the project. I went over with the 7 bottom to moldboard the field and the neighbor brought his backhoe along with the rock bucket to gather some of the stones Id be kicking up. About halfway through the field, 5 of the 7 bottoms tripped so i told neighbor Marty that there was a rock he might want to dig up. As I was plowing along, I noticed he was spending a lot more time than he should of digging the rock out. He called me in the radio with the infamous words, " Ya gotta come over and see this!" The danged rock was bigger than the tractor. As I was scratching my head trying to figure out how we were going to move the danged thing, his son showed up with the maintenance truck bouncing through the field at about 45 mph. Marty walks over and grabs an air drill, hooks it up to the compressor, puts some holes in the Boulder on steroids, and walks back to the truck. He pulls out a case of dynamite, smiles like a kid at Christmas, and announces, " Ya might wanna move your John Deere... WAY back". He filled that rock so full of dynamite, it was bulging at the seams. When he set it off, the citizens in Hiroshima thought the Enola Gay was attacking again. The Boulder blew into a million bits. We had police, the Sheriff, Highway Patrol, and I think even God stopped by to see what the commotion was about. I figured we were most likely going to be calling for bail money when the Sheriff came over and asked, "Was that one of Martys ideas?" Since I don't narc on friends, I mumbled something to effect of that I didn't see what happened. He just shook his head and looked at Marty and asked, " ya think you used enough dynamite ?" Marty confidently said, " a couple more sticks wouldn't have hurt." All the Sheriff said was, " I'm gonna retire in 2 years. Do you think you can keep from blowing up my county in the meantime?" To this day, I have a picture of the smoking mass of destruction behind my desk.
Your story reminds me of the scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid where they're robbing a bank and blow the whole bank to smitherings and Sundance turns to Butch and says "you think you used enough Dynamite there Butch" .

That trailer is like what we used on the railroad to move on track machinery except ours had a rail for the wheels to ride on. Job well done on the tree clearing. You guy's always do a good job at whatever you are doing.
I do appreciate you and your family of farmers. I do have a request that you leave some groves for the wildlife. You are so eco conscious in all other areas.
I agree need to leave some groves and along creeks rivers waterways swamps for wild life within the last 15 20 years there has been a lot around where I am gone. I am between 1 hour and 1.5 hours roughly south of where they are
they aren't though. if you look on google maps you can see significant eutrophication in the waters around their fields, meaning they are overfertilizing.
@@rustblade5021 if the would leave grass and tree strip along water ways and other bodies of water wouldn't have so much run off and everything Silting in. You see lots of farmers and lots of areas that there's a ravine or a waterway while they're dropping their planner planting 2 or 3 rows into the waterway down the bank. That's not every farmer but it's a majority of themYou also have to remember how old are the pictures and videos on Google Earth and google maps People are destroying stuff everyday And it's not just farmers either I was born and raised on a farm of the whole life
I've built thousands of freestanding silage stacks, maize and grass, farmers used to say... wow that tractor/machine builds beautiful stacks,, I kindly reminded them that the machine is only as good as it's operator! Moral of the story is pat yourselves on the back. Yes good tools are essential but only as good as the operator. Keep up the good work lads. 🇱🇷💪👍

We sold all the big rocks to landscapers in the Twin Cities. Made good money for something we didn't want. They used the rocks to build retaining walls.
I love clearing land as well. You guys should look at an ELHO rock picker. They work fantastic for picking sticks as well. A real game changer. We use them on our farm and have sold a few into Minnesota already.

Seems like it's a catch 22 now that you got some dry weather you're able to find the time to do some stuff like that but trees really upset out of the hole better in damper weather sometimes the fella just can't win

Has strait line winds causing millions in damage. ***2 weeks later*** Removes trees, and brush that arrest strait line winds. Which is harder to pick up, Branches, or a Corn Silo. Oh, and one of them, doesn't get you any insurance money. And GO!
An excavator and payloader work great for tree removal and we used a tree saw on our bobcat for trees that we couldn’t dig out it’s not bad but takes time
Cut the tree's by the road, and use a stump grinder to get the sump below the soil line. I ran a large cemetery, and had to cut down many old and very large pine tree's because of some disease. I couldn't disturb the ground to much with burials all around them. I use the excavator to make the tree's fall where i wanted them by tying rope to the tree if it was leaning towards a memorial. I kinda liked stump grinding, that thing would make pretty quick work of the stump if it was cut down far enough to the ground. G-d bless you guy's.
I don't think you need a bigger digger for those cottonwood trees but a chain saw! Have them down and in manageable chunks in no time. Ok still got to deal with the roots but a few old stumps aren't going to put sticks in the field!
We always try to get as much dirt off the root bulb and then split the stump in half, roll it a 1/4 over and split both those halves. The stumps are the hardest to get a good burn on, so we try to put them into the middle where the fire will be hottest.
Always love an opportunity to excavate. I would advise that you might want to check with some landscaping companies because I know that some of those rocks could be sold. I have a neighbor that has made good money with those big ones and even the medium ones can be pricey
We added a ROPS to our excavator. If your Cat is new enough, it may already have the ROPS built in to the cab. Still dangerous work. We knew of a guy who had a tree fall on the cab. Be careful. As I’m sure you know, wind and widow makers are a concern too. Much safer than a chainsaw though. It looks great! Good luck.
Geez Chet. Chainsaw those roadside and other big trees down as low as possible and cut them up as lumber logs then haul them to local lumber milland pocket the cash. That's what every farmer I new in my Michigan farm town I grew upin. Medium trees (unless they were good to sell as pulp) and large branches got cut up for fall and winter weekend bonfire parties.
Clearing brush is very satisfying Leaving some of the bigger trees Making it look like a park Yet leaving just enough for critters to feel like they can still hide from ya Fun times You know they make a very good drum Mulcher for your bobcat or even the excavator No need to burn it Just nice looking mulch Some of them can even grind rocks

You guys up there have rocks everywhere and, in some places, those big rocks sell for 40 cents a pound or more to city folk!
Don't remove all the trees . You need them as wind breakers so the wind don't unearth your seeds and soil /
I agree with this but try and tell a MN grower this. that one extra half acre is worth it to them. Plus to heck with all the wildlife.

Guys, I would love to see more of the actual crops. How are they going? how far along are they?
