As a owner of one of these machines I can agree with with most of your points one minor issue I had is the stereo needs to be louder but absolutely worth the $170k for the machine u get is gonna be hard to beat.
it has Tunes ?? DP didn’t mention a radio. I couldn’t stand to work in a machine all day without a radio. in the country it might not receive very many channels but then I would try to figure out how to wire in SiriusXM. I put SirusXM in my semi.
@@steamindemon3389 We have radios in all our equipment but I never use them. I have a Spotify subscription which lets me down load music and podcasts. I download my podcasts and then I have a pair of Isotunes bluetooth ear muffs and I play my podcasts through them. So much better than listening to a crappy am/fm radio that probably won't work right half the time anyway. Plus you don't have to listen to the same 5 songs over and over.
Definitely a big thanks to Case for the opportunity. Channels like this are about the best review they could ask for. Like you said DP, a 10 min demo at a trade show just does not do this machine justice. It's so versatile you really do need to see it in action for a few weeks to see what it's capable of.
Agree with DPs assessment and that it doesn't quite fit their needs. They rarely use the Takeuchi, after all. The price of around 200K is what I have also seen, which is not terrible at all for what you get. But you can also get a good used dozer and a great Takeuchi CTL for that price. And at least I remembered this was a factory prototype DL550 and there was never any chance DP would get to own it. Case was always going to want it back. And now that have a field-proven example to tear down and examine and learn from. Hugely valuable to their engineers. This machine did real, hard work, repeatedly. No babying. Case is to commended for letting this machine prove itself on camera in front of everyone. CNH has been kicked around a lot lately but they clearly have good things going on.
I could see this machine being a perfect match for a landscape architect. Rip up existing planting/trees, push a bunch of dirt, compact it then move heavy pallets of pavers with ease. What about a pool installation business? The power it has along with the versatility with attachments and being able to load high sided dump trucks
I've always liked Case machines; in nearly 52 years of operating (50 of that in my own business), you can imagine, like Jerry, I've kinda been there, done that with nearly everything commonly out there. It's a fantastic idea, and appears to be a very versatile machine. That said, I looked up the numbers on it not long after you got it on demo and, frankly, was surprised at the price. As nice as it is, and like everyone else, I like shiny new toys, For less than $200k, I can buy a good skid steer, and small dozer used, and still not spend that much and, frankly, they wouldn't have all of that pollution crap on them that nearly everyone has issues with. I really appreciate the opportunities you get to shake out new machines, and really enjoyed watching everything you did with this. Thanks.
Does make you wonder if you could find an older track loader in the 450-550 size, and retrofit it for a skid steer quick attach at least for the ability to swap forks and grapples in addition to the bucket. The guy that I helped redo my grandparents terraces actually used a wheel loader to do most of the pushing while I was using their 8u D6 tractor.
Hate to see it leave. I understand why but it's nice to see it in action. Like moving the clay pipe and retaining blocks. Thank you both for the opinions on it.
I 100% agree with you on the swinging door, I like the Case CTLs other than the door, the roll up doors are my choice too. Another application I think the DL550 would work great for is wild land firefighting, with the dozer blade and build a fire plow that attaches to the ripper I think it would be great. Plus you wouldn't need a lowboy trailer to move it from fire to fire. We use 350 and 450 John Deere dozers now and they work good, but this would be easier to get around through the timber and brush since it's smaller.
As an owner, I love mine with some caveats as you have. Tracks are the same as d3c. I broke the tracks off and part numbers matched with Cat. Triple grouser steel definitely good all around, even on some asphalt. Fan is extremely loud, but it runs my mulcher with no heat issues whatsoever. As a big guy, the cab is quite roomy. My seatbelt has been hooked behind me since the day I bought it.
Definitely a good machine for the right applications, can really see it benefiting someone who currently has a scidsteer but has to hire in the occasional dozer or dozer with operator. It's been really interesting to get you take on it, Aaron probably likes it because it's just the right size for HM. 🤣👍
Versatile Case DL550 proved its worth and suitable for some 'pole barn' businesses. Pity to see it go however it has been great to see it in action. Fifty year old heavy equipment operator was very impressed with it. Thanks for show casing this Dirt Perfect and MBTS.
I have a much more thoughtful approach to CASE after watching your work with the 550! Was not on my radar before and I'll now be watching for CASE equipment and innovations! Thanks for your no-nonsense review. I think CASE hit a homerun with this machine! Be well, be safe!
Dp I'm glad Case has given you this machine to run and review and I agree with what you are saying about the DL550 and hopefully down the road you have the chance to own one when the time is right
I was impressed with its capability when you were hauling the concrete stacking blocks back to the landslide prevention job. Over and over again you mentioned how the TL 240 would have been at its limit, but the DL 550 breezed through the task.
I cannot remember the job but I do remember you saying having the versatility and quick change without trucking two machines for a short one day job was fantastic. You don't do a lot of one day, or two day jobs on video but that compact package for transport for those seems to be a big plus. Just not your companies need. Your dump truck, trailer, and that machine could do a lot of small jobs in a hurry. Add a set of forks and just think of all the jobs it could do.
Duty service is the key to any equipment. If you are going to pay that kind of money for a piece of equipment, you have have the jobs that keeps them busy. Great machine for the right application or for the small company that can't afford a lot of different pieces of equipment. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys! It sure is one hell of a peice for sure! I could see it as an attach type 1 fire cat! With it's blade and how it can push ;and it's size could get in between trees and save them , but make a descent fire break with!
The door/window is an excellent point and defintely a strong arguement for getting a rollup door machine or getting an open cab machine. A hydraulic release will only work if your implement is tiled in a way where it wont block the door and with how some arms sit you basically need it on the ground to open a door. With DEF issues still being a recurring issues in a machine I can very easily see someone using a machine trying to say clear a fire break, going into limp mode, not being able to drop arms low enough and having to try and escape through the rear window if they're able to.
Sad to see the thing go. But at that cost plus the cost of attachments that would fit your operation the money has to make sense. But thanks for demonstrating the machine and what it can do and thanks to Case for allowing their new products to be showcased in real world environments like this.
Our 620 is a monster with a mulcher and in the blue ridge mtn at 100 degrees you don't get but 6 hrs for a tank of fuel but no problems with over heating at all. Waiting on a 6 way blade for it. Wanted the 550 I will say from the video it looks to be a little bit more visibly with out lap bar in 550 vs 620. Awesome machine
Don't forget about the big clay pipe also!!! Definitely a very versatile machine! Thanks guys for your review...I've watched everyone and it's a BEAST 👏👏👏🏁
Appreciate your transparency about pros and cons. It seems as if this was a tough choice for you to let it go. I watched all of your videos(normally watch everything) and really thought you were going to keep it. I agree about the triple grousers. Keep up the good work and the videos.
Thank you Case for having the courage to put this out in the resl world for everyone to see. The data you will get from the machine itself plus the feedback from real world operators will be invaluble. Not to mention everyone getting to see this beast work. DP, thanks for showing it off for us. I kinda knew you wouldn't be buying it. Two big dozers, and the D4 seem to work very well in your buisiness model.
A little surprised you didn't mention (unless I missed it) how well it did with heavy loads, especially the concrete blocks and clay tiles. It blew away the Taco and Kubota....didn't even seem close. That said, overall I think you made the right call about sending it down the road. For the work you do it's overkill as a CTL and more than adequate as a dozer, BUT..... there's no way to have it at (2) jobsites at the same time when one requires the CTL and the other requires a small dozer, which you seem to often have the need for. Very cool machine, though.
Here's something to think about on the door issue ; most of the companies that make CTL machines with swing out doors also make mini excavators with swing up front windows . It's not like they don't have the knowledge to put a swing up door on their CTLs .
Great review and I do like the machine, But I will NEVER buy another one without a roll up door. Safety is the biggest reason, but I am finding a lot of other small reasons that are accumulating as a negative. Thanks for all your work and info.
Good review. I admit I will miss seeing you guys work it, but you always said it was a demo machine. Case did a good job of letting you really put it through its paces.
One thing I like is cases ability to let you post the good and the bad. The only way to get reviews is to listen to what the potential buyer likes and does not like .
The only place I really see my losing a bunch of track power is in wet conditions if it is dry I’d definitely say it will keep up if not outrun the D4 while being on rubber tracks
Sorry Mike, but that ripper is seriously in the way when dropped. You would get fed to the back teeth with the thing if you had to get at the engine for more than ten minutes.
Seems case nailed it with the performance. Most of the dislikes were ergonomic type inside. Which can be tweaked with some engineering on future production models and upgrades. Well done case!
I can see your point on not keeping the 550, however, you are going to miss it. Thanks for your thoughts, CASE did hit the nail on the head with this machine. Thanks for the feedback.
It's really the attachment assortment that you'd have to work with which would set that machine apart from the pack. If you think about it, a vibrating roller, grapple bucket, and a extendable boom stick crane attachment along with the standard bucket, ruckus rake and blade would be the cat's meow. (not to mention a trencher attachment) Personally, I'd love to own it.
I can definitely see that this machine wasn’t quite the right fit for the work you do. However, the new Case dozer “demo”…certainly fits the job description! 👍🏻 Thanks for the honest review DP!
Awesome piece of machine. MBTS did put a lot of hours in it and got very good at it. I understand your decision because it doesn’t fit in you scope of work but you still have the 1650. DP I can’t wait for the playlist.
You commented that the visibility out the back wasn't great. I haven't run all the different brands, but I've run Bobcat, CAT and own a Case SV250. And for a vertical lift machine, by far I think my Case is better. The way the arms curve down in back gives very good visibility with the arms down low vs the Bobcat or CAT machines that both have the linkage that sticks straight up and is ALWAYS in your line of sight. I'll take Case's arm design over them any day. Now I've never run a Kubota or Takeuchi to compare to, but the arm design of the Kubota looks just like the CAT/Bobcat design (sticks up in the way). Also, as you pointed out, no dirt funnel. 😊
Do not miss out on the opportunity to negotiate a deal with case, you have given them exposure and promotional opportunities that they may have sold a number of these, dismiss this chance you may regret it here and there and stomp the ground wishing you still had it, but you know your business and work application best, I love gadgets and the more divers the merrier, this beast adaptable.
Very good explanation and agreed it does have to fit in to the line of application of your type of business but 29:35 nicely said about the DL 550 and sad it’s going back an Aaron(MBTS) i feel loss 👍😎🇺🇸NY
I been runing equipment for just over 55 year's now from old school hand crank dozer to all the new with that runs by PC with do not work well In the jungle . So I see the DL 550 as a new dozer so time will tell the truth about it . Looks nice and having ac is wonderful down in the jungle . But for now it's just some new toy they came out with now. God bless y'all
The machine is a beast, no doubt. But I appreciate the honest review. No need in buying something that doesn't fit your needs. I know MBTS is going to miss it. Thanks for another great video!
Very neat machine. I was kind of shocked at how big it really is. On the farm it would be nice to have the versatility. But transporting it would be an issue in my area and with my equipment where we need to be able to road it at times. Great to see it in action though.
Mike, from what I have seen on your channel you may want to spec a 550 the way you want it to replace the old Taco. The Taco really don't like moving blocks all that well, or 36" clay pipe for that matter. This particular machine has done well, as you say. However set up slightly differently it should work a treat. Case may even make the changes you mention in the next one they build.
I remember saying that I thought you should keep it. Then you bring in the Dozer and the way it pushes is amazing.. not that the 550 doesn't push... But you need a extra smaller dozer more.... Case definitely is going in the right direction... Aaron will just have to get his big girl pants and get on with it 😊... Keep going... your company is growing... Jerry might need a new job soon.. 🤔🏖️
This is a hard one, MBTS said he is not an operator, yet you said he loves it and is a good operator in this machine, who do have to believe ? Additional MBTS looks like he has been working out and is flashing his new GUNS and wearing a FLASH HOT NEW T-SHIRT. You are correct it does not fit your application but is a Damn Good Machine that takes a good while to MASTER. Keep up the EXCELENT CONTENT DP !
It would really be nice to show coupling the dozer blade, watched you run it many times . You definitely have a knack for equipment ,Aron is doing really good on this machine. Keep showing the good guys working.
Was really hoping this machine would wind up with a decal. I have a fair number of hours on a dozer and, yes, it would take me a while longer than I had to get use to the dozer. The front door is a very definite downside. Case: please take care of that. Now, as a 70 something with serious physical limitations, the only real problem that I have is getting into it. It needs some serious step points, which it doesn't have. Once inside, no problem, even though I'm a big guy. Overall, if I could buy it, I would. This machine, fitted with a grapple rake or log forks would be a serious contender for the small scale logger and portable mill operator. Case is looking at adding a winch, which was one of my initial questions. The addition of a winch and log grapple attachment for the ripper would be a winner, in my book.
I know Aaron is very disappointed in you giving it back to Case. Look at the retaining wall y'all built for the house about to slide. He maneuvered to the top and did some moving that wasn't videoed: I wondered how he was going to get down and he turned around up on that last step. Of course, I really didn't see it fitting in with Mikes work jobs. Thank you, Case, for allowing DP and Aaron do some magic with your 550 Minotaur.👍
Nice, honest review. I agree with DP...lots of money to sink into a limited use machine. Better for other setups. I could see a guy who is starting out using one and not having to buy 2 machines. Drawback to that is if it goes down, no other machine to limp by with...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. No surprise as to your decision. The cost is a little expensive if you don’t have the need for a dual purpose machine. If the price was a bunch lower it would likely be a very popular machine but they would likely be giving too much away. One can only hope that they take your suggestions and do well enough from your demonstration to the public that they might misplace a unit with your specs and improvements in Derby and forget where it went. That or make you an offer you can’t refuse. 😂 Wishing you and your family the best.
I can understand this machine not fully suited for your operation. The investment has to be made and you have to count the hours it runs to make it profitable. For the versatility alone I think it suits your operation pretty well, but you leave the D4 in a field for a week not caring, this is something else. For companies here in the Netherlands I definitly see possibilities, mainly because it is also compact, you can haul it on one trailer with several attachements and have several machines in one. Thanks for the heads up review😀
I think it's a great choice for a one man or small operation. I can see Case expanding the attachment options for it. I'm retired but if that machine had been available 20 years ago it would probably have followed me home.
Mike&Aron you guys rock, watched the video, placing the Evo blocks,Aronade me pucker on the approach. Job well done, Mike more cudos for Aron,he is like a timx, takes a liken and keeps on ticken. Beautiful wife and family,I'm past all that, being 69 ,as they say fire In the furnace, lead in the shoe You have a great crew and seem to be on top of things Nothing but respect for you My last crew was 39 people, yes I would do it all over agin, unfortunately don't have the luxury of time. Best wishes Mike
Just spent 10 hours in my machine with a 72" mulcher with peak temp yester of 95, and only stopped to fuel and grease once. Never got close to overheating for engine or hydraulics.
heavy landscape might be its gig, my friend has one they found it does a great job for a lot of farm work. They can move it easily and it fits in tight places
Thanks DP I'm glad Case trust you to do a demo. Looks to be a great tool for a great price point. I do feel sorry for ADP /MBS, Loosing the fits right machine. LOL Great video see you on the next one 🤠
I have enjoyed all of the videos with the Minotaur and see how it could fit in a lot of needs and possibly replace 2 machines. However, like any “multi tool” it’s handy but isn’t the best at any one job. Sure is a nice machine though!
Both trucks are 4.10 geared. The Mack is a 10 spd the international is a 13. The Mack is an 05 so it’s electronic. I don’t doubt the Mack will get better fuel economy but for our use where it’s short hauls the international just pulls better. Our Pete with a b model cat at 425 out does both
Very interesting comments Mike from Aaron & you and I can see and understand why right now you are not buying it. What would have been interesting is have Jerry in the 550 for a couple of days for his comments from a dozer operator's point of view.
It was fun to watch the DL550 working. Great concept, Case is trying to be an innovative company so 👍 to Case. To me the door is an issue I can't see myself trying to crawl out that back window. Great job.
Like you said, it is a great machine for the application. Sad to see it go but, glad to see you put the DL550 through it's paces. When I get something, I try to get something with many uses. Thank you for showing us what the DL550 is all about. Great job MBTS. Oh and you DP lol.
I’m seriously considering buying one….i demo one with in a few weeks…..I can see where it will make me money with less hauling costs. Quicker movement means more money…..I can haul with my 1 ton dmax which makes it very attractive vs using my tandem axles Mack.
It could get complicated, but I wonder if a business case could be made to expanding your company to include Aaron on the DL 550, with a suitable truck and trailer where Aaron goes around doing one day jobs and when you need him for a big job, he shows up? Historically he was tied to his career as a Boilermaker but seems to now be retired and could look at a second career with Simmons Contracting.
Those flip out windshields can be a mess to deal with in a sticky situation, but if it noses over forwards or backwards in a hole or pond then you better be very familiar with removing the seat belt and making a front/rear exit. I tell everybody that has a skidsteer to practice a panic escape at least once a week so if you ever have to do one for real its almost a natural reaction vs go full panic and cant get out of the seat belt/safety bar.
As a owner of one of these machines I can agree with with most of your points one minor issue I had is the stereo needs to be louder but absolutely worth the $170k for the machine u get is gonna be hard to beat.

Idiot comment "well worth..."
How would you know? Without knowing the price o this unit, you're comment is meaningless.

Thanks
What an opportunity from Case to DP. 700 hours of demonstration time on a new machine! Thank you Case.
"My biggest complaint externally..." as he points the camera at MBTS roflmao 😂
going to miss seeing this machine on the jobsites
I think that Case should send Eric a nice Goosedown jacket to advertise Case this winter for them. He more than deserves it.
Definitely has it's place. That was a great opportunity to showcase it in your type of work. Bring on the next ctl. Stay safe
Dp I'm glad Case has given you this machine to run and review and I agree with what you are saying about the DL550 and hopefully down the road you have the chance to own one when the time is right

Speaking from a forestry aspect the steel tracks are a game changer !

Very honest review and I think anyone who knows this channel a very thorough review give the time (and experience) you spent on this machine.
Thanks
Great machine for the right application. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Man we are all going to miss the DL550 as capable as it is, I understand your reasoning for passing on it, it is pricey but so capable.
Great machine - sad to see it won't be joining the fleet. Comprehensive & fair review. 👍
Another great video Mike and Arron
Smaller operations this thing would be amazing. Versatile, Less mobilization cost also.
Loved seeing this beast on the channel. Def going to miss it.
God bless y'all
The design of the fan can make a difference in the noise level . Maybe they can modify it.
Several videos posted of doing just that
Thanks
Great review Mike. Sad to see it go, I seriously thought you were going to buy it since it was working out so good for you. Thanks Case
Great tutorial on pro and cons of the machine.impressive video.sorry to see it go.just carry on and on to the next.good video.kudos 👍👍👍😎😎😎
this was an awesome machine to watch! I can totally see the benefit for the right person
Thanks
Good morning sunshine! Great video! Much love from Henderson Ga
An Excellent account on what you & Aaron have uncounted while in your possession, Case should be pleased with that.
Sorry to see this machine go and I know Aaron feels the same!! Stay safe out there!!
This is a real nice multi task equipment and a very good assessment of all of its characteristics.
Its been fun watching you guys use it. Next demo piece of equipment please.
Thanks
Beautiful wife and family,I'm past all that, being 69 ,as they say fire In the furnace, lead in the shoe
You have a great crew and seem to be on top of things
Nothing but respect for you
My last crew was 39 people, yes I would do it all over agin, unfortunately don't have the luxury of time.
Best wishes Mike
Just spent 10 hours in my machine with a 72" mulcher with peak temp yester of 95, and only stopped to fuel and grease once. Never got close to overheating for engine or hydraulics.
Nice
Great analysis!!! It sure has looked good in your projects!
heavy landscape might be its gig, my friend has one they found it does a great job for a lot of farm work. They can move it easily and it fits in tight places
It would excellent for farm applications too
Yes
Good honest review. Thanks guys.
Mowing the hill side at the fair grounds knocked my socks off.
Sad for MBTS. I throughly enjoyed watching this machine work.
It was fun to watch the DL550 working. Great concept, Case is trying to be an innovative company so 👍 to Case.
To me the door is an issue I can't see myself trying to crawl out that back window.
Great job.
Damn, i was sooooo hoping you would keep it, I love watching it on your videos
Like you said, it is a great machine for the application. Sad to see it go but, glad to see you put the DL550 through it's paces. When I get something, I try to get something with many uses. Thank you for showing us what the DL550 is all about. Great job MBTS. Oh and you DP lol.
There is a lot of bad things with machines but it’s a pretty cool machine but great review👍
I’m seriously considering buying one….i demo one with in a few weeks…..I can see where it will make me money with less hauling costs. Quicker movement means more money…..I can haul with my 1 ton dmax which makes it very attractive vs using my tandem axles Mack.
I think he oughta get one for Aaron since you did a great job operating
Good review guys and yes thanks must go to Case for letting you play with it bro. Safe travels. Ken.
Thank you and have a great week.
I’m having separation anxiety but I’ll get over it. 😉 Another great review and see you on the next one 😎
Very nice review . If I were in the market , you sold me.
Thanks
It could get complicated, but I wonder if a business case could be made to expanding your company to include Aaron on the DL 550, with a suitable truck and trailer where Aaron goes around doing one day jobs and when you need him for a big job, he shows up? Historically he was tied to his career as a Boilermaker but seems to now be retired and could look at a second career with Simmons Contracting.
Great machine it would have been nice to see you keep great video thanks Mike and Aron
sad to see it go , but thanks for the honest and thorugh review . thank you case
