5:25 is where I made sure to give this video a like. WAY too many tech reviewers speak those commands out loud and set off everyone's phones and smart speakers they've already got. Kudos on your all too rare mindfulness.
Exactly my thoughts! I have watched other reviews and actually stopped watching after they said it twice, because my Google Home mini was responding and I was getting frustrated
google responds to everything.... everytime someone says "okay" anything.. alexa doesn't respond to. "alex" "al" "alexis" or any variation people say okay a lot.. and its not just ok.. it seems to randomly beep like it herd okay... today my kid said " oh yes" and the clock responsed.
For anyone who would like to use this clock to wake up using FM radio, just say 'Wake me up at (time) playing (FM station)'. You can then set it to repeat daily in the alarm settings. Additionally, you can adjust the alarm volume in those settings.
@@GarryL277 Unfortunately, no. I've had that issue too. I also noticed that if you snooze it, it won't play again after the snooze timer ends. So it does have some bugs.
Watching ths 3 years later, all the features are standard Google features on any smart display, but what I love about the Lenovo Smart Clock, even 3 years later, is it is small and compact. It looks like a bedside clock rather than a smart screen. Sure, it can't play videos, but aside from that it is very functional and works well for the purpose of being a clock with some smarts built into it. The Smart Clock 2 is very similar, but has improved sound, to the point where I would recommend the Smart Clock 2 now, but if you can pick one of the originals up cheap, they are very worth while and still get updates.
Great review. I'm an established Android user and I completely overlooked the auto brightness setting and was getting rather frustrated with manually having to mess around with them; looking forward to going to bed now tonight!
Hey Brett. Very good video, I'm considering replacing my Google home mini and at the same time, Put the Google home mini in living room, but my question is, can it do exactly the same as the Google home mini? I mean, is it really an upgrade? (apart from the screen and being a clock)
Thank you! this was a great straight forward review, very informative and easily watchable. Already added this little clock to my cart so i'm excited to try it for my new alarm clock.
Wow, the most comprehensive review of a product I've ever seen! Love it. Does anyone know if it's possible to cast audio from a different music service (e.g. Tidal) to this clock?
I don't know what platform it uses to perform the radio; but yes! It cam in fact play radio! Say hey google, or ok google. "Hey google, play the radio".
Hey Brett, I just finished watching your Video about the Lenovo smart clock, that you recommended yesterday. I really like what this has to offer. However, even though this would have done what I am looking for. I'm looking to see if there is anything that will simply just be a clock that keeps itself set, and maybe automatically adjust brightness based on time of day. Something that doesn't strictly rely on AC power to work, and be visible. The solution I'm looking for in a smart clock would be for it to be able to work on battery power, or AC. Most of the digital clocks that take a 9V for backup, only light the display when AC power is present, and extended time on battery still causes the clock to lose time. Of course, I have my phone, iPad and computers for time, but they aren't always on dedicated clocks. Of course, I can always ask Google, or Alexa for the time, but then again, they require AC, and aren't always on. Either way, loved the video. Hope I have given you some more info related to my solution I'm looking for. Have a great day.
Have you ever experienced that when you want to talk to this clock and your phone which also had google assistant is near by, google assistant will get activated on it too? I would think that this would be irritating and can't think of a way to stop the two things from being activated at the same time.

You do mention it in the video, but how dim does the screen go at night? Especially, since it's not an OLED display. And if it really goes dark, how do you tell the time at night?

Hi Brett! Thank you for the detailed review. I just bought this smart clock and have a question. Hope you could help. I want to display the weather with the picture display screen. Brett quick question. Do you know if this works with the GE C Life bulbs. Using them now with a google mini but since those are connected through Bluetooth didn’t know if it was compatible. Thanks for the help!
Sadly, this specific clock doesn't support calling in any way. There won't be in the future either, cuz you'd need a camera. There is a possibility for not needing a camera and calling in the future, but it's highly doubted. If you want to get just that exact thing you want, you can buy a google nest hub! The google nest hub can receive and make video calls using its camera feature. You can look into it yourself by searching it up. Hope this helps!
We have Hubs in all the bedrooms, kitchen and lounge... then minis in all the bathrooms and hallways... if my kids were younger this would be cool, or to have in bathroom instead of mini I suppose (depending on price)
Hello, Great review!! I only have one question: I received this as a gift and I don't have Wifi network where I am going to use it. Is there a way to use it only as a desktop Clock without a wifi network ?
Before I understood much about the Google devices, I had set up my Nest thermostat using a gmail account a few years ago. When I added the Lenovo clock a few weeks ago, I used a different gmail account to set it up in Google Home. I have discovered that I cannot control the thermostat by voice from the clock (works fine from the Nest and the Home apps). I can access the thermostat from all the other Google devices I set up with the Nest gmail account. I think I need to do a factory reset on the clock and then add the device back with the nest gmail account. Does that sound like a reasonable thing to try or should I check with Lenovo just in case? Thanks for a super video - I had no idea the clock did so many tasks!
Ace video Brett. Really informative! Although I'm hoping that you can tell me about the commute function? I know when my trains are, but I'm wondering if it will tell me if they're running late? Thanks in advance. Scott 😁
A great run though, Brett. I won't be buying as I'm going to get the Home Hub Max when it comes out and I only have room for one more display in the house. My Nest Hub goes to the bedroom to replace a Insignia speaker. Kind of like musical chairs but with speakers. If I had another room, I would buy this Lenovo display.

Hi Brett, thank you for your review! I have a question : I'm looking for an easy way to help my grandparents (who just moved to a resthouse) remember when we come. They don't seem to know anymore when they read their own paper calendar. From your video, I understand that I could register my grandparents voice for the clock to detect it. Could I also manage the "tasks" menu with my smartphone (they don't have one), although I live 100km away? Thank you for your help =) have a nice day!
Yes you would be able to do that by sharing a calendar with them. I do like how the Nest Hub pops up the calendar events better than this clock. Itight be easier for them to see.
Nice review as always, Brett. It's a neat little device but I think Lenovo needs to drop the price a little as it's only slightly less (£20 in the UK) than the home nest hub. which makes getting the home hub a no brainer really for most people who can afford the difference IMO.
Thanks Brett, too bad they can't be taught to respond to only one voice then might be able to have one on either side of the bed (his/hers) or maybe Lenovo will make a pair that acts like a bedroom set?
Brett, do you know any district restriction in the firmware of Lenovo Smart Clock? I also have a Google Home Mini. I understand it is officially release in Taiwan and hence it supports Mandarin. My 1st thought is that Lenovo Smart Clock should be similar to Google Home device. However, I cannot set Lenvovo Smart Clock to work in Mandarin. 😔
I have looked for days and can't find where in settings you could block calls for example and also how in the world you were able to adjust the bedroom lights from the clock (how did you add that feature to the clock)?
can I reproduce a relax sound from youtube or my phone? I mean... i sleep always with a relaxing sound all night so... I use my phone to reproduce this sound... can I do this on this device?
From what I can tell, yes. I think you can use free Spotify to shuffle music with ads, and I think that’s the case wit everything. Though, if you have the ability to chrome cast, you might be able to audio stream an online radio station through to your clock. That’s just pure speculation though
@@charliew9538 Says you, your to young for one 🥺 It was a joke clearing that part out. Keep the negativity to yourself. I'm not interested in your reply either, cuz when I'm done with writing this I'm practically gonna smash that block button.
Is it possible to play music on a timer (like the iHome clocks) to help fall asleep? Also can you set an alarm using music or is it only the predetermined alarm sounds?
Can this be paired to a lenovo chromebook instead of a phone? I ask because i'm thinking of getting it to help my 3rd grader keep track of their virtual learning schedule.
Also, Do the calendar events set off an audible alarm if you add a reminder to the event. I imagine my kid sitting in his room killing time until the next meeting, but him missing it or being late due to not seeing the event pop up on the screen. So if the settings allow for an alarm to go off for calendar events as well that would be great.
Does anyone knows if this is the same as the Lenovo smart clock essential? I've been doing some research and can't really tell if there are two different versions that just look very similar.
yeah they do look similar but are very different basically the essential is this one but without a touchscreen; still and led display and more and this one works a bit like the echo show 5; Smaller screen by 1.1 inches different software google assistant; instead of amazon Alexa and no camera Tech with brett review: ruclips.net/video/y5blzxjVlig/видео.html

can I reproduce a relax sound from youtube or my phone? I mean... i sleep always with a relaxing sound all night so... I use my phone to reproduce this sound... can I do this on this device?
What about using this as a clock radio? Have you got to sign up to a provider?
From what I can tell, yes. I think you can use free Spotify to shuffle music with ads, and I think that’s the case wit everything. Though, if you have the ability to chrome cast, you might be able to audio stream an online radio station through to your clock. That’s just pure speculation though
Hey Brett! Another great video brother. Quick Question: Can you display the time in a 24-hour format or is it only AM/PM?
Yes you can! That setting can be found in the Google Home app.
Super cool little peice of tech
Wow! This is cute! I'd love to buy it, only if I had enough money. xD
By the way, nice video! I'm happy you uploaded another one! :)
hahhaha get a job you lazy slob
@@charliew9538 Says you, your to young for one 🥺 It was a joke clearing that part out. Keep the negativity to yourself. I'm not interested in your reply either, cuz when I'm done with writing this I'm practically gonna smash that block button.
In my country I'm getting google nest mini and lenovo smart clock for ≈20 bucks each
Which one should I buy?
Can you make the smart clock turn on light slowly in the morning, before the alarm goes off ?
Is it possible to play music on a timer (like the iHome clocks) to help fall asleep? Also can you set an alarm using music or is it only the predetermined alarm sounds?
Yes
Can this be paired to a lenovo chromebook instead of a phone? I ask because i'm thinking of getting it to help my 3rd grader keep track of their virtual learning schedule.
Also, Do the calendar events set off an audible alarm if you add a reminder to the event. I imagine my kid sitting in his room killing time until the next meeting, but him missing it or being late due to not seeing the event pop up on the screen. So if the settings allow for an alarm to go off for calendar events as well that would be great.
Does anyone knows if this is the same as the Lenovo smart clock essential? I've been doing some research and can't really tell if there are two different versions that just look very similar.
yeah they do look similar but are very different basically the essential is this one but without a touchscreen; still and led display and more and this one works a bit like the echo show 5; Smaller screen by 1.1 inches different software google assistant; instead of amazon Alexa and no camera Tech with brett review: ruclips.net/video/y5blzxjVlig/видео.html
i mean the google home mini do you need that to use these alarm clocks
Does anyone know whether this can cast any smart cam as long as it is compatible with google assistant? Wanting to use this as a baby monitor...
Hey Brett, do you know how well does this work with the ring doorbell?
Sadly it does not work at all with Ring Video Doorbells.
Great review , is it possible to set your own alarm on the clock?
Like alarm sound?
@@TechWithBrett yeah exactly, I have a part of music song, that I use as alarm sound
You are not able to add a customer sound but you can ask it to wake you up to music. See more here: ruclips.net/video/naaX0DIhnag/видео.html
@@TechWithBrett thanks for the replying! I appreciate that!
Does the smart clock retain time and alarms after a power outage?
Is there any way I can use my google photo album for my clock face?
I can't remember how but I had it set up so yes you can.
@@CherylsWorld.63 lol I tried a few weeks ago and it wouldn't let me
Do you need to pair this with a smartphone ?
So, I can see my events of the day but, will it notify me of an upcoming event? (i.e. 15’ in advance as Google Calendar does)?
