To reduce the stickiness of rice id recommend washing it prior! It removes the starch and takes just an extra 5 minutes! (You fill the rice-cooker bowl with the dry rice and fill it with water, massage the rice until the water is clearer, and repeat until its semi-transparent)
Also unless it's a specific kind of rice (for example basmati), all rice in Japan is sticky by default, since it is eaten with chopsticks (if it wasn't sticky you would need to eat each grain of rice one by one)

34:42 That watch strikes as something that could be very useful for the elderly. Having an SOS button, and a heart rate monitor attached sounds really useful. I regularly see patients who have fallen at home alone, then been stuck on the floor for hours or even days. Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Yodobashi Camera in Akiba is a fascinating place all on its own. The tie in with Chris Broad was an excellent touch, really helped to get a local perspective.

I was in Japan earlier this year and had NO idea this store existed prior to going to Akihabara. I kinda "accidentally" stumbled into this store and decided to venture through almost all the floors and...my ADHD brain could *NOT* comprehend what I was witnessing in real time 😂 All I remember is wanting to buy something *so bad* but because I was immensely overwhelmed by the sheer choice of literally ANYTHING I could want, I left empty handed. Yodobashi left me mentally drained for the rest of the day. I still can't believe it exists! If you're visiting Japan and want your brain to explode, go check it out!
@@DominusFeles well, you "feel" correctly! Because that's literally what happened to me and I almost went into a corner to sob in from how much visual processing I had to do 😂
That trackball mouse is something I used at my job back in the late 80s, early 90s. You’ve never seen one before?! This was a great collab! Love to watch both yours and Chris’s channels. That store completely blows my mind. I could be in there for days… Love the longer video, btw. This was enjoyable to watch.
The trackball part made me laugh. Something incredibly common in the US even up to 2005ish. I have used both thumb and index trackballs and I am only 34.
They were (and are still) pretty popular in the pro studio market for audio consoles. Personally I hate them but if you don’t have real estate to move a mouse they do a great job. People that use them though swear by them.
My dad had one when I was a kid and when I saw the ball could pop out I was constantly stealing it so he’d hang out with me which is…a lil sad but also funny.
Trackballs for productivity are absolute god tier. I switched to it on my music production PC last year and haven't looked back. As for Arun's complaint about fine detailed work with it, my trackball (logitech MX Ergo) actually has a button to switch between normal and fine controls and basically switches between low and high DPI mode.
I came here to make this the same comment. The kid in this video has never heard about a trackball. I've owned several of them.... Like 30 years ago 😂 I cracked up when he said it was high-tech 😂
Little me 25 years ago: Mum I need a new mouse for playing CS 1.6 competitively. *got a trackball* PLAYED CS COMPETITIVELY WITH A TRACKBALL. Yes, it's possible.
Yeah my first thought was "looks like that mouse + trackball thing that logitech used to make", then I googled it and it turns out that they're still making it.
for the neckband speakers, they're also amazing for if you're in a noisy environment where you also still need to hear. let's say for a warehouse worker. earbuds don't work because you might have heavy machinery like a forklift rolling around you occasionally, but they still allow music speakers. the neckband speakers would be great for you! i actually personally use a pair every day for my own job as a forklift operator.
I remember a time when I visited the computer shop every Saturday to check on new devices and components. At one point they disappeared all together, and you could buy IT components and devices only online. It is a great achievement for the Japanese to keep the physical computer shops ope and stocked with the latest parts and devices. Well done Mr. Whoisyourboss. Greetings, Anthony
The neck speaker is for you to walk or stay with a surround sound speakers that gives the experience of a real surround sound system which also allows you to listen to people talking around you or to you.
Nice to see the colab with Chris Broad! Yeah, as an American, I grew up thinking rice was just there to help fill you up and not taste good or have any taste at all really, but when I went to Japan, I was floored at how good rice can taste.
The ball mouse is called a trackball, pretty useful especially helping reduce RSI. its been available for years in the west but we hardly made a fuss about it. Also for fine control, you can use a hotkey on your keyboard to move super slow to be accurate.
I feel the opposite. I set the track speed to the fastest (once you get used to using the mouse), and you'll develop pretty good control at that setting.
The trackball been available since the early 1990s. But mrwhostheboss was born in 1995, so I guess it's never really been popular in his conscious lifetime. To me, it's 1990s throwback technology that a few arthritic legal secretaries used at the law firms I've worked at. But the popularity of the trackpad on laptops really prevented adoption of the trackball, which was the only alternative mouse option for desktop users. It's cute he talks about it as cool Japanese tech.
That thumb ball (upright trackball) has saved me from RSI. When I started working in tech professionally they provided me with a mouse. After a few months I had so much tendon pain. I realised the difference was that I'd been using a media controller at home which works similarly (your arm stays still). Took a couple of months to settle but that was 2005 and Im still coding daily and pain free. I'd give that a 10! :D
Man I can't wait to buy some of the stuff you mentioned myself when I go to Japan. Great video and great collab! I hope you will make more of these videos in the future, Japan has a lot more to offer.
Just loved the entire vibe of you being in Japan. Especially that mat in the room, have only seen them in Anime. I really love their decoration style. And the Store feels like a heaven. I really want to visit Japan Once.
The keyboard is underrated because those emoji keys can actually be mapped to do a lot of things, including opening specific apps, command sequence (like ctrl+alt+del), and this can be configured for different applications, so for example the smile emoji can be mapped to activate ctrl+c when you’re using photoshop but when you are on the desktop it can open the browser. It also has other features like copy from a computer and paste in another using the Logitech software.
The collab we didn't know we needed! As a tech and Japan enthusiast myself, the sheer scale of the store still surprises me to this day. Hope I can actually make it there in my lifetime
Dude, that vid flew by, and you know how we're all like goldfish with our attention spans, thanks to YT Shorts? MrWhoseTheBoss totally kills it with vids that keep you hooked and entertained!
but that rice cooker took forever bro... is that normal ? like it was day when he started and in the end it was night so like do you gotta put it on before leaving in the morning so it's ready in the evening?
I disliked it for this specific reason. For me, it's too fast and I feel anxiety because I can't really focus or understand what's going on. Until you've realized what's happening, the scene has already changed. Constantly changing music, fancy transitions, sfx and short comments. I don't get it, why to rush so much?
@@ДаниилЩербаков-ч6и I agree with you, I just haven't come across a good quality, fair lengthened and detailed tech creator, I absolutely love Arun and the others, but they all feel so condensed for most of their viewers with the attention spans of goldfish' I dislike it very very much.
26:41 you discovered TENS therapy. Congrats. The science is sort of there. They definitely use these in physical therapy, but at the beginning normally, right after the injury occurs when you can't be doing resistance band training yet, they'll hit you on the TENS unit to promote muscle movement, since maybe you were in a coma for a long time and your muscles slowly atrophied, can't go straight into Walking again, they'll sometimes prescribe this. My sister had a really fancy one of these.
You should definitely do this in Shanghai and South Korea as well! Tech in Asia is DEFINITELY different compared to western tech! You can find pretty much anything you thought you wanted without any fuss. My dad always brings home 4-7 packages filled with tech stuff, Japanese sweets, or beauty products because it’s way more convenient.

I really hope everyone gets to experience a mall in a country they’re not from. For me, it was the Kuwait mall and I’m from the US. It was beautiful and magnificent and surprisingly had more American brands than i thought! They had a Texas Roadhouse while also having a massive waterfall in a neighborhood designer section with Tom Ford and Victoria Secret!
39:20 first time in Japan (over twenty years ago) taught me that rice is not a "bulk up" / "filler" meal item but something to be enjoyed as much as any other item on the plate, even in something as texturally and flavour diverse as a shojin ryori meal the rice is as much a part of the experience and been mildly evangelical about spreading that opinion - it's a hard sell to a lot of Westerners but it's my occasional, once or twice a year, life mission.
It’s amazing to see how all that expensive camera gear and stuff is just put in the open for public, it rly shows how much the store trusts the Japanese people
It’s insane when videos come out with people leaving their phone and purse at a fast food restaurant for like 30 minutes and coming back to show how no one steals anything. There’s even a restaurant that has no employees that check you out and you’re trusted to pay for what eat and it stays clean to boot. Japan’s etiquette is such a breath of fresh air in these aspects.

Considering how popular Shokz are in Japan, I thought for a second this was one of the things you picked. I have an older pair and they are pretty useful when riding a bike. It is fun to see you have fun with Japanese tech.
I have a funny story about shokz. My family is funnily enough, probably one of the first ppl to have them in Japan, because we bought the newest model before they released it. My parents really wanted to buy it when they saw it because they loved the fact that it sits outside the ear, but it wasn't actually released yet, it was supposed to be released the next day. But the employees let us buy it, as long as we promised to not tell anyone before the release the next day.
Well shucks, you've told the world now. By the way, no reason at all, please stay in your house tonight. *The breach will be loud, but play your cards right and we won't hurt you.* /s
For the rice, you didn't take into account that Japanese Rice (Ultra Short Grain) has a very different texture as Basmati Rice (UK's most common type). That in itself, would make a huge difference in the taste and overall experience of eating rice in UK and rice in Japan.
I’m a drafter who uses that trackball mouse with Civil 3D every day. Once you get used to it fine control with your finger is no problem at all. I have never used the tip of my thumb to control it. It just takes some time to get used to it. Also changing the sensitivity settings will help greatly. I enjoyed the video!
I have the BOSE neck speaker. It's Bluetooth and connects to two devices at once. As I move around the sound comes with me. I swap from making a coffee and listening to a podcast to playing ACNH at the tap of a couple of buttons, or my smartwatch. They are a great idea that have not quite found their audience yet. They are ideal for Japan where people actually care about not disturbing their neighbors with music/movies.
can you also tap into them simultanieiously? because i felt like it may had partially been designed for people that need to hear the outside world but still are to be on speed dial or something, i figured how the transmission was going to be managed but considering you could have some wifi/3g device sending out bluetooth i could see this being useful there
The tilted switch dock makes a lot of sense for placing it in a tv unit, where you don't have the height to pull it out of the dock vertically. So you end up tilting the dock each time to take it in/out. This is a bit more of an elegant solution. I actually have a 3D printed stand for this reason
Logitech has been making trackball mice since the beginning. You can buy them here too they're just not that common. People with occupational injuries sometimes use them.
I'm in the UK and I've had a trackball mouse for many years, once you get used to them they are so much more comfortable and easier to use and also feel so much more intuitive than a normal mouse, wouldn't swap for anything.

This is a dream collab! For a long time I watched you guys' channels and appreciated you in every video, but seeing you conquer the biggest electronic store together is such a nice surprise. Japan lifestyle carries both futuristic prospects and the relics of the past, so any kind of video from there is bound to be the most interesting tech and lifestyle content.
This is an amazing collab, never thought I’d see you doing this will Chris!

Can you create a video about different types of processors?

34:42 That watch strikes as something that could be very useful for the elderly. Having an SOS button, and a heart rate monitor attached sounds really useful. I regularly see patients who have fallen at home alone, then been stuck on the floor for hours or even days.
Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Yodobashi Camera in Akiba is a fascinating place all on its own. The tie in with Chris Broad was an excellent touch, really helped to get a local perspective.
The collab we've never expected to ever happen, but we're all here for it!

There are ony about 5 channels I watch every video from, these are two of them !
I was in Japan earlier this year and had NO idea this store existed prior to going to Akihabara.
I kinda "accidentally" stumbled into this store and decided to venture through almost all the floors and...my ADHD brain could *NOT* comprehend what I was witnessing in real time 😂
All I remember is wanting to buy something *so bad* but because I was immensely overwhelmed by the sheer choice of literally ANYTHING I could want, I left empty handed.
Yodobashi left me mentally drained for the rest of the day. I still can't believe it exists! If you're visiting Japan and want your brain to explode, go check it out!
I feel like that store would induce a panic attack for my brain from input overload 😅
@@DominusFeles well, you "feel" correctly! Because that's literally what happened to me and I almost went into a corner to sob in from how much visual processing I had to do 😂
Its right in front of the station.
Like directly in front.

That trackball mouse is something I used at my job back in the late 80s, early 90s. You’ve never seen one before?!
This was a great collab! Love to watch both yours and Chris’s channels.
That store completely blows my mind. I could be in there for days…
Love the longer video, btw. This was enjoyable to watch.
The trackball part made me laugh. Something incredibly common in the US even up to 2005ish. I have used both thumb and index trackballs and I am only 34.
Yeah. It blew my mind that a tech professional had never seen nor heard of a trackball.
They were (and are still) pretty popular in the pro studio market for audio consoles. Personally I hate them but if you don’t have real estate to move a mouse they do a great job. People that use them though swear by them.
A coworker in my office is using one right now.
My dad had one when I was a kid and when I saw the ball could pop out I was constantly stealing it so he’d hang out with me which is…a lil sad but also funny.
oh god. he was impressed by a trackball. how OLD am I?
I WAS JUST THINKING THAT!!! 😂🤣 surely that tech hasn’t gone all the way around like that, right?!
What a miracle I have been watching both of these guys for ages and never expected this to occur in a million years
for the neckband speakers, they're also amazing for if you're in a noisy environment where you also still need to hear. let's say for a warehouse worker. earbuds don't work because you might have heavy machinery like a forklift rolling around you occasionally, but they still allow music speakers. the neckband speakers would be great for you! i actually personally use a pair every day for my own job as a forklift operator.
Bose and Monster sell their own neck speakers and I own a set from Monster for being cheaper than Bose.
And you don't need to go to Japan to get some
some higher end earbuds have Transparency Mode where the bud's built in mic actually allows you to be able to also hear your surroundings
@@gigihanmandarinI've got the Bose one, and I'll be very sad when it dies because they're discontinued
Greetings,
Anthony
The neck speaker is for you to walk or stay with a surround sound speakers that gives the experience of a real surround sound system which also allows you to listen to people talking around you or to you.
This is the crossover I didn't know I wanted. Love both of these channels
Nice to see the colab with Chris Broad! Yeah, as an American, I grew up thinking rice was just there to help fill you up and not taste good or have any taste at all really, but when I went to Japan, I was floored at how good rice can taste.
40 minutes never felt so short amazing storytelling pace and editing 😍😍👌👌
8:26 I am seriously gonna cry now!😭 I've always had baby fever, but this? This makes it BUY-able!
Missile Command used it first
track balls been around for decades, and yes ppl with RSI use them as you said in my work.
I was using a Logitech trackball and trackman marble about 15 years ago…
It will not stay at "once". Once you have been there, you will go there whenever you can afford to.
@@patricko9479 I think yes, cause it's so full of culture. And It has good food, friendly people.
The collab I could never have dreamed of. Thank you for making this you guys
Hope I can actually make it there in my lifetime

but that rice cooker took forever bro... is that normal ? like it was day when he started and in the end it was night so like do you gotta put it on before leaving in the morning so it's ready in the evening?

Japan is known to have unique and almost impossible tech, I have watched other creators show and review them and I must say I am impressed

I think the craziest part for me is the idea that the requesting items over the counter style of shopping actually *used* to be a common way to shop back in the day, but it's no longer common in america due to the evolution of industry and grocery stores
I’m a Japanese in the UK and I really enjoyed this. Shame the kids watch won’t work in the UK. With child safety more of an issue here than in Japan it would probably do relatively well here. I love rice cookers and bought all my friends one over a couple of years. Yum Asia do good ones in the UK and not as expensive as the Japanese leader but similar technology. I didn’t see it in the video, and I know it’s not a cooking channel… but I hope you washed the rice first…. 😅

The Logi Pop Keys are sold internationally (including UK) I bought one last year and have already moved on to the MX Mechanical
Very awesome video! I'd love to visit Japan someday and check out the culture for myself. Thank you for sharing!
39:20 first time in Japan (over twenty years ago) taught me that rice is not a "bulk up" / "filler" meal item but something to be enjoyed as much as any other item on the plate, even in something as texturally and flavour diverse as a shojin ryori meal the rice is as much a part of the experience and been mildly evangelical about spreading that opinion - it's a hard sell to a lot of Westerners
but it's my occasional, once or twice a year, life mission.
It’s amazing to see how all that expensive camera gear and stuff is just put in the open for public, it rly shows how much the store trusts the Japanese people
No group of people in Japan are allowed to steal with impunity because they belong to the "oppressed" column
Plus they don't have multiculturalism, so they can expect their customers to belong to a single cultural standard that discourages stealing.
@@lethalButters in Singapore ive seen wallets and phones left behind to save a table. In the posher areas of Bangkok, coin purses were used.

I adore a trackball mouse. So perfect for a laptop on a couch. You don’t have to do trex arms on the touchpad

They are ideal for Japan where people actually care about not disturbing their neighbors with music/movies.
can you also tap into them simultanieiously?
because i felt like it may had partially been designed for people that need to hear the outside world but still are to be on speed dial or something, i figured how the transmission was going to be managed
but considering you could have some wifi/3g device sending out bluetooth i could see this being useful there
The tilted switch dock makes a lot of sense for placing it in a tv unit, where you don't have the height to pull it out of the dock vertically. So you end up tilting the dock each time to take it in/out. This is a bit more of an elegant solution. I actually have a 3D printed stand for this reason
Logitech has been making trackball mice since the beginning. You can buy them here too they're just not that common.
People with occupational injuries sometimes use them.
Aaah those little trackballs you could clip on the side of your (luggable) laptop back in the day, before the touchpad
I'm in the UK and I've had a trackball mouse for many years, once you get used to them they are so much more comfortable and easier to use and also feel so much more intuitive than a normal mouse, wouldn't swap for anything.
Love your reviews but i especially love the visual effects an added animation. Nicely done.

Half a day? Lucky! I went there some time after it just opened and walked around to the point where staff told me the store was closing.
As someone who lives in Japan I can say your comment about things being very automated but also very manual is extremely on point 😂
18:40 I think that handle is meant to fit only 3 fingers while either your index or your last finger sits just outside the handle. This way of holding a cup/mug helps with stabilising it while pouring out its contents.
