I use the Google hub to replace my clock but a couple weeks ago I did get one of these for each of my kids for a simple clock with RUclips music, night light, and ability to broadcast to them as needed. It works great.
ok i love the clock i have the screen one but it seems like when i tell the alarm to stop the morning routine doesn't start and i have it checked does that happen too anyone else
I watched a few videos on this thing on RUclips, you are pretty much the ONLY person who showed how it would look like in a dark room. Considering its main use is in a bedroom, I cannot say how grateful I am to you for showing that important aspect. Many thanks, subscribed ! :)
I've had 2 of the regular Lenovo Smart Clock's with the touch screen. They've been great for use in areas such as the living room and kitchen. In the bedroom, they were good but were just too intrusive while sleeping. We recently bought a couple of these Essential clocks for the bedroom and they're a lot better for this application. The night light does come in handy, as well as the charging port on the back. It's just flat out simple and less intrusive in terms of blue light. It has all of the same Google features as the screen version has, you can adjust your lights and gadgets, you can ask it questions etc. They're great!
How bright are the light from the numbers at night? It doesn't seem that it's possible to dim that like the LED "assistant light". And that's probably a deal breaker for me.
Thank you for this comprehensive review! This smart clock is exactly what I need, simple display with auto brightness adjusting and a speaker, just that. You've shown everything I needed to confirm. Great job!
Found these after your review of the touch screen version of this and they were on sale for 50% off so I grabbed 4 and put one in each kids room and one in the living room (we don't actually have a clock in there otherwise). These work great. My daughter loves the nightlight and having music she can listen to at night. We are just getting into the smart home setup so these were a great, cheap option.
During the audio test, I think the smart clock essential and the nest mini would be a great speaker group. They compliment each other well for a much clearer and fuller sound. It's something to hear in person though to confirm.
Your vids are so very good,I accidently turned on the clock night light very frustrated playing with all the buttons no luck getting it off then i membered your vid
Thanks Brett. I love your helpful instructions. Nearly drove myself crazy trying to figure out how to adjust display brightness on this clock until I saw your tips.
Nice review! I bought one of these after watching this review and am relatively happy with it. It does seem to struggle a bit with hearing me (I have turned the sensitivity up but I still have to talk louder than I'd like) but it has been a good addition to my bedroom. I like the ability to control my bedside lamps and my fan without having to pick up my phone. The nightlight and USB port are great features. It's affordable too if you can get it on sale - I wouldn't have bought it at full price.
I probably would have known all this, if I had read the instructions. But with Tech with Brett, I don't have to read the instructions. Thank you! I have one of these. The clock is easy to read, even with my glasses off. I have the mic muted and sound turned down all the way as I have a Nest Mini to do my Google stuff. To me this is only a clock. I don't use alarms because I am retired. :) I did have to change the room because during my good morning routine, it would say that the bedroom clock couldn't do something. I banished it to a made up room. I bought mine at Best Buy for $25 when they had them on sale. I would recommend it to others.
Thanks Brett for such an in depth review 😀. I was considering buying this clock for an upgrade. After your post, I feel I'm making a great choice...AND you gained a new subscriber! Great job 👍🏾

I have had this since December and it is a really great upgrade from the Google Home mini in everything but sound. I already had an alarm clock so combining two devices has saved some desk space and programing the alarms is very easy.
Yeah I got my Smart Clock (with screen) on Christmas and I also noticed the sound quality is a little lesser, but honestly for general listening it's fine but definitely not as good as even a Home Mini.
Excellent review. Will probably get one of these! Very detailed look, and it is impressive to see how many features this has. Seems simple, but real good. Thanks.
Brett Awesome review and any questions I had were answered by you just watching.it’s been a while and this is a awesome gadget.Hope you and Family have a great Holiday Deb.👍✌️
I like everything except that it has to be plugged in. Most devices have a built-in battery. I'm sure people would have been totally fine with a removable battery or even AA. Great video as usual man! Keep it up!
Great review! Can you pause a weekly alarm? For example, if Monday is a holiday, can you ask it to pause and then you can resume it Tuesday? Or does it store the weekly alarm and you cancel it and reactivate it?
I love your reviews, you have helped me build my smart home! If you ever get the chance, you should review the Lenovo Smart Tab M10 with Google assistant. I'm curious on its features!
Few questions: Will this allow you to snooze the alarm? Can you set the display to dim automatically at a certain time, then go back to 100% at a different time? Can you automate the nightlight with a motion sensor?
Can’t wait for this to come. Replacing an Alexa Echo Speaker with this since all Alexa wants to do is sell me subscriptions or explain how to use features that I’m already asking it to do lmao
I've got the original one with the touch screen. Having the USB-A port it's great. I keep my Fitbit charger in there so it's always ready to charge at night.
Let’s say you have an alarm set for 7am, you perhaps wake up before the alarm at 6.45am, how do you disable the 7am alarm without speaking and waking up your partner? Is there a simple button (combination) you press to disable just today’s alarm? Seems though this (basic) traditional alarm clock feature is missing?
Remember when digital clocks were kinda new and you could put a battery in them to keep the time incase the power went out? Lenovo should do the same just with a rechargable built in.
I heard that autobrightness light sensor not work perfect, many people says that not dim enough at night in dark room and display is still too bright. Also when you set brighness by asking Google then Autobrightess stops work again and there is no command to turin it back on.
Good review. Bought one of these in start of year sale in the UK was only GBP20, bargain. Great next to bed, only thing to note is clock is too bright even on 1% to sleep with, like a white floodlight. Nothing a neatly cut piece of gray plastic didn't fix! With an update recently you can set it turn screen off completely at a set time of the day but kinda makes clock a bit pointless then, but it will come back on when you say hey Google.
The biggest problem with this clock is the light levels. When you switch it to the darkest mode for night time (10% via the app), it's too bright. You can get it to go lower via Google asking it to go to (lower than 10%), but this actually damages the screen. I had to get mine replaced due to this. Lenovo are aware of this. Not sure why it's not mentioned here
A simple Goolge search... How do you snooze on a Lenovo smart clock? How to snooze or stop an alarm? After an alarm sounds, you can tap or press any button (except alarm setup button) to enable snooze mode. Your alarm clock will sound again several minutes later (10 minutes by default). To stop an alarm clock, short press the alarm setup button or use a voice command.
For me, the LED brightness setting in Night Mode changes the time display as well. Also, the night mode LED setting seems to override voice requests to change the screen brightness.
@@MacGyv3r To be honest, that was 9 months ago, and I'm not 100% sure what I was referring to. However, you can set the brightness of the numbers with a voice command: "Hey Google: set screen brightness to 0%" (0% turns them off completely). There are settings for night mode in the Google Home app and they include turning the numbers off completely.
Now that several of the lights have burnt out, it's very hard to read the numbers; I find it very hard to find a Google connected replacement, any suggestions?
Nice review. Can this alarm clock (or the model with display) interact with other devices in smart home - is it possible to activate smart scenes or automations? Eg. turn on heating 30 minutes before alarm or turn on lights at the time of alarm?
Great review. I have a Smart Clock Essential, and it's really good - but in Google Home app, under settings, I don't have an Alarms and Timers option. Any ideas why not?
Hi, let's say if we have an internet connection down for a few hours and we have some alarms set during that time, are those alarms get played or we loose that feature? Thanks!

Or, could I have another motion sensor in the room trigger that nightlight? Also, is there an ambient sensor that helps dim the clock automatically at night? Thanks!

Lost power a few days ago, since then unable to display weather and temperature. Believe me, I have Googled everything for this, factory reset, re-install Home, it's just not there, and I'm not the only one in this situation, just can't find the resolution yet.
I see that the essential automatically sets the time after a power outage, but what about the alarm setting? I'm asking if the power was briefly gone during the night would the time and alarm reset once power resumed.
I don't believe the alarms are saved on the device itself... it's all saved in the cloud so it stands to reason the alarms would also exist after an outage.
When I set up the alarm clock, it shows as a speaker. How do I change this? I don't have the option like you do to go in setting and see everything that's on your settings.
Why is my Google Home app vastly different then his? And I don't get the option to change alarms within the Home App either. It gets classified as a speaker for me, which irks me something firece.
Hey Tech with Brett. Have you thought about reviewing the Philips Hue Gradient light strip with the Philips Hue sync box? I would love to get your thoughts and opinions on that setup for the ultimate movie experience on your Samsung TV.
Strange... my night light command is something that has been bothering me for a while. I could turn it on and off but but I could not change the brightness - if I use the word "brightness", it changes the screen brightness, not the nightlight. Only if I omit the word "brightness" does it set the night light, which is something I just accidentally discovered after watching your video and trying one more time (or one last time).
Amazingly detailed review! So many talked about all the features and so on but you are the only one which actually showed the alarm sound in a clock review. 🥹 Thank you.
