As I’ve seen in the video, It worked perfectly fine.
I noticed it works better than Siri on the AirPods, mainly to read and send messages.
This device deserves a 10 score

I've had one of these for a few months and works really well with my 12 year old Ford Territory (Australia) and compares well with my much newer built in Android Auto Ford Sync 3 equipped Ford Escape. Apart from the screen of course. I love it and makes my older car feel up to date and agree with Brett, is something I've wanted for years. Thanks for the review Brett, awesome as always.

I have "ok Google" turned off on my phone because I use the speakers at home and want the speakers to repond and not my phone. If you have the hot word turned off can you still use the button on the Anker to activate the assistant? I don't want to have to turn on and off the hot word detection on my phone when I get in and out of the car.

Man TY, this vid is right on time. I purchased the Garmin Speak & I love the device itself, but after a week of testing, and being sent out of the state when asking to navigate home, or getting directions to a business named after any word I spoke, I was going to return it today!!
While I don't want to use Googles Eco System in my car and I LOVE the GARMIN & ALEXA paring even tho it only works with Apple devices, this takes me back to my original thoughts of just needing a better mic connection between my devices. Great to know it's not just MY system.
I have been using the Bluetooth fm transmitter as that was my first purchase, I have a van and was able to plug it into the back of my vehicle, use a USB extention cable and run whichever device back to the front, or now use the double USB & Car Charger cup holder I found on sale for 10 bucks at Autozone. I can now plug the FM trnsmttr into the one CC port and my camera or other devices into the other or either of the USB ports. This also now gave me 6 to 8 varied ports to use...lol.. yet I still could not get my Garmin Speak to hear me over the wind and traffic noices etc.
I saw a vid from Pixels Cracked where he was setting up an Infotainment System and used a FM tranmttr with a mic on it and I am wondering if you've tried this as it seems it would be a much more reasonably priced device, and if so, maybe you could do a vid on this because every single vid I've seen on the GS, Roav, and other Alexa enabled devices have spoken of the exact same problems. SO LET'S GET TO THE NITTY GRITTY OF THIS ISSUE as I think Amazon is delaying the Amazon Auto until it is figured out and we spend quite a bit of money otherwise. I'm going out to test some mics myself today and will be checking back with you

Your work-around setup reminds me of the ancient hands-free device I made back in the day of cassette players. I cut the plug end of an old wired headset with the tip for both the mic input and the headphone output and spliced on a small corded mike and one of those cassette shaped converters you could plug a portable CD payer into to play through the cassette player on your radio. Sadly they've all done away with the headphone jack on all but a cheap Motorola model I think. And even then the last few that still existed I think only had audio out and no mic input.

I wish my google home in my bathroom worked as well. Roav works seamlessly with AppleMusic and it reads my texts. I put an actual google home mini in my car, using my phones WiFi hotspot. It isn't aware of location, so I can't say "navigate to some where", but saying "how do I get to a location" works and the destination is sent to my phone. The hotspot had to have the same SID as my home WiFi where you have to set up the mini before trying in the car. Then tasker is used to create and stop the Wifi hotspot with the mini's wifi as the trigger.

My main issue is that stupid OnStar in my car usually screws up the assistant and then does weird stuff (like uses the onstar voice instead of google assistant voice, but still does what I'm asking my assistant to do. And ends each command with "thank you, goodbye")

    Hi Brett,
I have the Roav Bolt in my car for about 3 years now. I suddenly noticed that in order for me to hear the assistant response, i have to press the Bluetooth icon on my android OS Radio. I never had to do that in the past. it would automatically pause the radio and switched to the assistant audio.
You might be wondering why am I using the Roav Both when I have the Android radio, but i find it more useful, the Google Assistant hears me better and it is much louder and responsive.
Should I be paring the Roav Bolt directly with the Assistant on the head unit or with the Assistant on my phone?

Brett, sorry to say this but I have had Google assistant for years since my Note 2 was still in use, all through my Note 4 and now with my Note 9. It works doing all you said this product does without having to use that product. All I see this product doing is making you spend money for no real reason.

You talked me into buying another new gadget. I love it, with one exception. Using the RoavBolt, I can't get it to recognize and use a routine I like. However, when I try to use the same routine, talking straight into the phone it works just fine. Am I doing something wrong or is it not designed to work with routines? Thank you.

Sorry about that Paul. Does it give you an error? It should work the same way interacting with Google Assistant anywhere else should. I'll see if I can find out more details.

    • @paularnold51
      @paularnold51 5 лет назад

@@TechWithBrett No Error that I can see. The command is "play 980," which should take me to a local AM radio station. On my home units and when I talk directly into the phone it works perfectly. When I use the Roav Bolt it beeps loudly and connects me to my RUclips music and plays songs I'm not familiar with. Thanks.

I’m thinking because my car has Bluetooth and phone connected already, I don’t need/could use this. Some how OnStar or xm radio has Alexa but I don’t know how to use it. (2017 Chevy)

Biggest issue is Bolt can pair with only one phone at any time. So if you want to pair your spouse phone you have to factory reset it. Hence if you switch cars with yours spouse, Bolt cannot be used by both.

Try the Nulaxy NX09! The price is around the same, it supports Google Assistant, and is an FM transmitter by function!

So it helps the phone. The phone is required to use it and does that accessing of information but the Roav makes it easier for the phone to do those things.

Heads up with samsung phones don't know about other Android phones doesn't update the bolt for voice command. You will 1st need an iPhone to update the bolt to the latest firmware in order to use voice command with samsung/Android phone.

Good to hear! There are many Android Auto head units that add Google Assistant to the car. This Pioneer unit amzn.to/2F4NOcz (affiliate) is a great option that has Google Assistant built in. It is definitely a solution I am very interested in but haven't been able to try it out yet.

    • @TechWithBrett

Thanks for the video. So essentially this is a car mic for your Google Assistant on your phone which prevents you from listening to your radio, eliminates the need to touch any buttons on your car stereo, but will force you to use iHeart Radio or any other radio app to be able to listen to your favorite radio stations... Did I miss anything? (Not criticizing your vid, just the product)

    • @TechWithBrett
