The Catholic and Orthodox liturgy is so deep and layered and every year I understand a little more…thanks to great expositors of Scripture like the Bishop.
Beautiful exegesis!!! His words preach to all congregations and all people. As a Black Baptist, I can easily imagine shouts of "AMEN!" by congregants 🙏🏿
You are one of the facetts of my Catholic faith. Your descriptions of the Rose Windows at Notre dame in Paris touched my heart so. I was confermed in Salt Lake City by Bishop Webster the last Pentacost he celebrated here. There is a copy of the Rose Window in the front of the Cathedral of the Maddiine. I must have looked at it 1000 times that day. I Know I am a true Catholic because of the heart ache I feel. My God"s love be with us all today and always, especialy during this Holy Week.
Ah Bishop Barron, what an outstanding commentary tying together Old and New Testament. I know you catch more heat from critics than you get compliments from the faithful but your Word on Fire is a large reason I "Crossed The Tiber" 7 years ago and never looked back.
Thank God for you Bishop Barron. I love every word that comes out of your mouth I just downloaded 97 of your videos every Sunday my husband and I sit down in bed and we watch them together I love going to bed listening to you words kitchens mainly bless you God bless you in many ways you are great
Bishop Robert Barron is a bona fide Christian who teaches the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth using right reason and rightly using the Word Of Almighty God! Even though I am not a Catholic, I have a very high regard for the Catholic Church because of people such as him! The Catholic Church deserves every due credit, and should by rights get that!!
On March 24 2013 was Palm Sunday. Me and my cousin are Catholics and we went to Palm Sunday mass. At the moment when Jesus was being nailed to the cross, I kneeled down and wept silently.
Thank you Bishop. I love your humble spirit and how you present the Gospel. You make me seriously think about coming home to the mother church as a Protestant Christian. Many of our denominations have become corrupt. My Methodist church fell apart and is in schism because it rejected Scriptural authority over our lives and now teaches the acceptance of full rebellion against God.
Thank you Bishop Barron for your wonderful witness to Christ and Our Blessed Mother It is really uplifting to listen to your video series. My family and myself are grateful to you, for you speak the TRUTH.
It is amazing how these Scriptural insights are so subtle. It takes a discerning reader (and the asking of the Holy Spirit) to see and understand these things. Like God himself who speaks to us in the silence. If we don't learn the ways in God is speaking to us, we won't ever hear him. Once we learn how to hear him, we discover he never stops speaking to us. Truth is like that. It seems as if the lies of the world are always proclaimed in huge and obvious headlines. We buy them hook, line, and sinker. You have to dig to find the heart of truth. "Wide and easy is the highway that leads to destruction and many there are who follow it. Narrow and difficult is the path that leads to life and few there are who find it." -Mt 7:13-14
thank you for teaching me this holy beauty. My faith is enlivened again, and my mind is nourished, and my heart burns within me as I listen. I want to find out more. Thank you for making quality presentations that merit watching again and again, and also must be used in teaching throughout the word. God bless your holy ministry and may I help to build holy church as a way of saying thank you to you, Stean Anthony I watched this again Palm Sunday 2021 thank you I have continued with my Stean Anthony work, now writing vol 4 of the pilgrimage story, and published 10 vols for BVM poetry and scripture.
WOW!! This is GREAT!! Blows my mind!! Definitely my favorite biblical comment since the one made on the Nativity earlier this year. I love it Father! Thanks for everything!!
Thank you Father Barron. You are an excellent teacher with extremely thought provoking insights about the Great Drama of Redemption. I imagine many members of Jews for Jesus would appreciate this particular gem of yours, and of course many Jews who have found the journey home to the Catholic Church. Because of those passages you talk about and many other prophetical scriptures, I have often wondered why so many Jewish people fail to recognize the Messiah.
I have my lenten recollection before that ,I have my pilgrimage we visit 7 churches, last sunday i join the palm sunday now many people going to church for station of the cross & now preparing to attain the celebration of last suffer, on friday the people come to church to listen the 7 last word
Father Barron, this is an outstanding video and informative. I recently watched an interview of Brian Robbins a Jewish convert to the Catholic Church on Marcus Grodi's "The Journey Home" who discussed how the events of Jesus' passion, death, and resurrection are striking on the Jewish calendar. Exodus 12:2-6 prescribes the Passover ritual. John 19:31-37 describes the breaking of the prisoners' legs, except Jesus' because he is already dead, and states that the sabbath that week was a solemn one.
I have just recently come across a great poem based on Palm Sunday called "The Donkey" by G.K. Chesterton. Would definitely recommend it to anyone interested.
Palm Sunday THE DONKEY When fishes flew and forests walked And figs grew upon thorn, Some moment when the moon was blood Then surely I was born. With monstrous head and sickening cry And ears like errant wings, The devil’s walking parody Of all four-footed things. The tattered outlaw of the earth, Of ancient crooked will; Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb, I keep my secret still. Fools! For I also had my hour; One far fierce hour and sweet: There was a shout about my ears, And palms before my feet. G. K. Chesterton -Mervyn Carapiet 691

For me, I could not leave the Catholic Church because within her Jesus is always present in the Eucharist. Men, will always be flawed and corrupt but Jesus will still be present within the Catholic Church in all of the sacraments. He promised to stay with His church until the end of the world and He chose the church as His bride. If we deny His bride, we deny Christ himself.
He's wearing a baptismal robe (Sindona, in Greek). Hence he's all of us who, at the moment of truth, tend to run away from Jesus and leave our baptismal identity behind.
And remember it was Christ himself who said, "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Mathew 16:18 The devil is sure trying to prevail against the Church. Christ has promised us that he will not be able to do it! Sending peace and blessings your way!
Grace and Peace Bishop ! Thanks for sharing. Can I humbly highlight that for Ezekiel, the Glory is not Shekinah but Kavod. It actually strengthens your point because Kavod is an hypostasis… exactly like the one we see in Jesus.
Abuse corruption in the church combined with the idea that the Catholic Church represents the apostolic succession of Christ's authority on earth makes a lot of people nervous. I am not Catholic yet myself -- but I have come to the realization that the corrective authority of Christ's church (the papacy), as much as I have long resisted this idea is beginning to make much more sense in recent days. Still have a way to go myself. Appreciate your kind reply.
Father, thank you so much for your ministry - it makes a difference in countless lives! I'm curious as to the reasoning behind your using the name "Yahweh" for God. As I understand it, the use of this name of God was eliminated from the liturgy and other Church prayers out of reverence, similar to the understanding of our Jewish friends. Can you comment briefly?
The readings the Church choose for Lent are very helpfull. For the past two days, the texts have had a negative spirit to them. They deal with rejection and stubbornnes in particular. Read Ex 32.7-14 and Jn 5.31-47... see how even the signs and Scriptures are not enough to convince people with closed hearts. Read Wisdom 2:1a.12-22 and Jn 7:1-2.10.25-30, which are today's readings. Some people just don't think right. Some people don't know the Lord's ways.
Am I remembering incorrectly or did they leave out the bit about curtain in the temple being torn from top to bottom at Sunday’s gospel? It did use to say that?
Interesting -- I was just reading about this in a book on Church history describing the Donatist controversy in the 4th century. The Donatists wanted to seek a "pure" church -- so much that even the validity of the sacraments depended upon the moral standing of the priest. St. Augustine, in contrast, argued "no". Rather, the sacrament does not belong to the minister, but to Christ himself. The Donatists rightly protested the corruption among the bishops, but wrongly diminished the sacraments
Father Robert, I fully agree with the old Testament prophetic quotations. But if the ancient Israelites ( the jews) believed in them, why didn't- and still don't- believe that this was in reference to Jesus? Does this mean that they went against- and have gone against- their own religious prophesies? Or are we wrong and have interfered in their scriptures?
Given that in 33 and 2012, Nisan 10 coincides with Palm Sunday, Good Friday coincides with Nisan 14, Easter coincides with the Festival of First Fruits, and Pentecost coincides with Shavuot, in a video or written commentary, or both, could you discuss how Jesus fulfills the purpose of the passover sacrificial lamb and how the new covenant foreshadowed in Jeremiah 31:31-34 occurs at Pentecost with the birth of the Catholic Church?
Fr. Barron, would it also be an accurate interpretation to see Jesus going to the Garden of Gethsemane at the foot of the Mount of Olives after The Last Supper as a fulfillment of Ezekiel? I have been told this, because Jesus had preached to the city, been rejected and now gets up and goes to the Mount of Olives...the Glory of the Lord leaving the Temple to establish the New and True Temple, his Church where God now truly dwells, by the only way it could be done, His death and Resurrection...
@worldonfirevideo, the guy who ran away naked was symbolic? I always thought it was Mark himself (I once read that there was a tradition that Mark was the son of the owner of the building who owned the upper room and lent it out to Jesus).
Bishop Barron, thank you. You provide a perspective on Palm Sunday I never got in my Protestant Days. It's the "Catholic Thing" you talk about in your book "Catholicism" which I read and watched your DVD series. Six years ago this Easter Weekend I finally finally finally "Crossed The Tiber" and "Came Home" and as Dorothy said, "There's no place like home." I'm a very happy Catholic BECAUSE OF YOU & YOUR WORK! Again, thank you!
Something helpful would be to read up on the earliest church fathers and find out how they worshiped. What did they believe about the sacraments? You will come to find out that Catholic Church was indeed the church that Christ founded and has continued to pass down the same doctrines that Christ handed on to the apostles! The truth is there for anyone to find, you just have to be willing to search for it! God Bless!!!
You missed my point. Jesus is present in the sacraments of the Church. Focus less on the men administering them and more on Christ who is within them. Jesus chose to administer his sacraments through the vessel of men who unfortunately are flawed. Even if a priest chooses to live a sinful life and make evil choices, it does not take away Christ's presence in His church(Eucharist, Reconciliation, Baptism).
You are in the right place, now you have to make a choice. Francis of Assisi or Martin Luther. Reform from within or point he finger at everyone else, Chose Francis and God be with you. Chose Martin and u chose yourself.
I wonder how many people miss the detail that it was a colt *whereon no man had sat.* Ask any equine handler if an unbroke horse, donkey, or mule will just patiently let anyone ride it.
"tout en suscitant une réflexion profonde" Malheureusement, cela n'est qu'à sens unique... Il lui est donc impossible de connaitre sur quoi portent mes réflexions... Pour lui, j'imagine qu'il me voit dans son miroir et croit que je réfléchis comme lui...
The Catholic Church has now become the modern day Temple and the Vatican has become the modern day Sanhedrin. If we continue with our ways, the glory of the Lord will once more leave the “Temple” and will return to where it started - - to the homes of the Faithful where the family is the basic church.
That’s not what the Bible says. If u didn’t notice St Peter was a coward Judas was hand picked by Jesus Paul was a murderer How did u miss all that ? During the 1500s there were Orgies in the Vatican And we are still here. The mystery of the church is God works thru sinners We all fall short The church is protected by The Holy Spirit and can never teach error. People always think that the church is the institution. Did not the institution church come from families before the powers that be made it into a state religion making the church institution we have now. I dont believe for minute that the church institution will never collapse because I can read the writings on the wall. What I have absolute faith in is the church faithful that is in individuals and families. The church is at its best when being the underdogs.
Jesus said the kingdom of God is in the hearts and minds of people, not in buildings and institutions. He came to establish faith, not religion nor institution.
melsky316 he picked 12 sinful men and they handed their authority to successors. He talked about his kingdom. A kingdom is not in your heart or mind. We have a line of successors from the apostles till today. Just as Jesus said we would. Jesus said “I will build my church and it will last forever.”
Very interesting. I wonder if pilatus really accepted jesus or posted that as a joke. He really didn't want Jesus to be crucified. Only if He knew that Jesus was going to eventually be worshipped in Rome. Viva Cristo Rey!
Why did you block Taylor Marshall? He’s extreme because he supports the Latin Mass? Your credibility is starting to come into question. Next you’ll say that France’s is a great Pope.
The Catholic and Orthodox liturgy is so deep and layered and every year I understand a little more…thanks to great expositors of Scripture like the Bishop.

Beautiful meditation, Father. Thank you for this, it really sets one's mind on Holy Week, and the principle One who fills it, Christ.
Thank you for this small bible study Bishop!

The dear Bishop is a gift in the sense of Ephesians 4:11-14. Thank God for such gifts!
I am watching this on Palm Sunday 2021 (in Mexico). What a beatiful coincidence and encounter
I am being led by the Holy Spirit in the Word of God to Hebrews and the High Priest and the understanding of Jesus.
Thank you for this wonderful explanation of the scriptural meanings of texts referring to Jesus' Entrance to Jerusalem.
It is amazing how these Scriptural insights are so subtle. It takes a discerning reader (and the asking of the Holy Spirit) to see and understand these things. Thank you Bishop Barron. Very interesting study. We are blessed to have such an intellectual Catholic teacher as yourself.
This is an exceptional instructional video. Found this just in time for Palm Sunday. Thank you for enriching my understanding of this day.

I very much like this format better. Much better.
hey father Robert Barron good to see you
Wow! Illuminating!❤️🙏🏼
Jesus Christ is King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and has defeated sin and death. Accept this precious free gift.

Palm Sunday

Thank you for the lesson. I learned something new.

The Word.
The Blood gets us right with Word.
Abuse corruption in the church combined with the idea that the Catholic Church represents the apostolic succession of Christ's authority on earth makes a lot of people nervous. Dan Carollo that's the problem, the church higherarchy, teaching falsely.
Father, thank you so much for your ministry - it makes a difference in countless lives!

The Blood is upon me.
Hey Fr. Barron, what was up with the guy in the linens who ran off naked right after Jesus was arrested in Mark?
Bishop Barron is a facet for the Catholic Church He tries so hard to bring all Catholics home to the worry of God
Come on, friend: it's a symbol.
