This is a collection of moments from our trip to Brussels.
This was my first time in Belgium and we were there so explore the city but also to catch up with friends.
Filming Open Gate in 3:2 with the BMCC6K was a great experience again and suited the architecture and narrow streets.
I really like the frames I was able to get and I hope you will too!
As always I try to put the emphasis on composition instead of movement and focused on the quiet moments with a touch of minimalism.
This was also a personal trip with family and friends so I only filmed a few minutes each day across the 3 days. In total I only shot 16mins of footage!
All shot handheld.
6K BRAW Open Gate, in 24fps.
Aside from the filmmaking aspects of things I really enjoyed Brussels. Beautiful architecture, great food and lovely people.
Plus as a fan of Tintin, this was the perfect location. Also went to the Pukkelpop festival which was incredible!
Let me know if you have any questions :).
Cheers,
Flo

Your videos are like books. They have refferences, they have perspective, they describe things. Not many people read books but the ones that do, they understand the depth of your craft. I enjoyed every moving painting that you posted and hope that one day I will be able to be as half as capable as you are.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback and kind words about my work, means a lot!
PS I love reading :)
The shots are beautiful, but I think you’re reading too much into it
Wow..!
The power of static shots.
🙏☺️
Im from Brussels! 🇧🇪 Merci d’avoir mis en scène notre ville avec tant de beauté ❤
Merci d'avoir pris le temps de regarder! Super nom aussi haha!
I started watching your films about 3/4 years ago, when I came across your Antarctica video. As someone who loves to travel and film, you have truly been an inspiration and aspiration to my own filmmaking. I appreciate these videos, as well as the equipment break down videos as well. Thank you for showcasing the hard work that you put into filmmaking and the dedication you have to the craft. Thank you for also showcasing the beauty that God has made in the world and that a lot of times we just need to slow down and see the beauty that is in front of us. I know this really isn't feedback for your video work, but just wanted to say thank you and to let you know (and encourage you) that you truly do bless people with the work you do.
Thanks so much for the kind words and feedback as well as for the support! I really appreciate it and it means a lot 🙏
Flo. Great stuff once again. I really like the magic hour shots at the beginning.
Glad you did, thank you!!
Your composition/framing work is so thoughtful.
Which travel tripod have you seen the best results with? Carrying around a Sachtler is not an option.
Thanks mate!!
I rarely use a tripod when traveling. This was shot handheld for example. Other wise I have a small table top iFootage mini. And I also have a Benro Tripster with a manfroto video head.
So beautiful! Love your work man
Thank you man 🙏
Very beautiful man. Love your work, and appreciate your eye. Grade is pretty too. Keep them coming please! 🙏 really like the ambient cine scape sound track that went with this one too.
Thank you baby for the kind words as always! 🙏
Can't believe I only shot 16mins of footage the entire trip haha!
Soul food! I always like to see your videos.
Thank you ☺️
Beautiful images as usual Flo! I know it's your eye and talent, not the camera - but it's wonderful to see this sensor + however Blackmagic are processing the image from it, in a video with longer lenses and deep depth of field. I pre-ordered the Pyxis and your videos of the 6K full frame have made me excited to try it out! But I'm sure you could sell me on any camera!!
Thank you mate, as always it means a lot coming from you! Super keen to see what you do with the Pyxis too!
Hope we get to meet in person one day for a shoot or a coffee :).
Love the deep focus!
Thanks!!
@@OfTwoLands Oh btw, have you ever experienced IR pollution issues with your BMPCCs and BMCC? if so, how did you solve it? with screw-on IR-cut filters? I'm seeing quite a bit of IR-pollution issues in my BMPCC6k pro(with and without the internal ND's engaged). Especially so when I traveled to Yellowstone and the Arches National Park last summer. Everything seemed to have a brownish cast when the sun was out (it was super hot!). And I can't seem to find a effective fix in post, and I guess I will have to use an IR-cut filter in similar scenarios in future projects. Have you had a similar experience? Many thanks.
I could watch this all day. Great video!
Thanks so much!!
Beautiful shots and compositions. Love the colors also
Thanks ☺️🙏
Beautiful, Flo! I love the way you went for some quieter moments in this one. Beautiful colours as always.
Thank you mate!! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Stunning!
Thank you!!
Comme d'habitude tes images sont magnifique, toujours l'oeil affuté pour capter les meilleurs contraste!
Merci beaucoup!!
Love the shadows, the framing and the coloring!
Glad you do mate, thanks so much for watching!! Such a beautiful city ☺️🇧🇪
Here is a collection of moments from my trip to Brussels. Shot on the BMCC6K.
Have you been there?
Cheers,
Flo
Typically what iso and focal length settings do you use for the wide landscape shots? Beautiful shots btw
@@learningideas Thanks!! Usually ISO 400 and 1250, and for wide around 28-35mm most of the time.
Really proving why Blackmagic destroys others in the price range with Dynamic range!, brilliant work mate. Also at 0:21 is that the main cortyard where they filmed that opening scene in The Killers with Michael Fassbender? ha!
Thank you mate!! Sure is a hard camera to beat for the price!
I think they filmed in Paris for that one but it does look very similar. I feel most squares/streets look the same in Europe haha!
One word just awesome
Thank you!!
omg, I just fell in love with this video 😍
Thanks so much 🙏🙏
Wow, I was watching with my jaw dropped. Absolutely stunning. Florent, this is top-level work!
Could you please let me know if you’re using DaVinci Resolve for color grading? If so, and you’re working with a Mac, how did you solve the Gamma Shift issue, do you use the Rec. 709-A color profile? Also, I noticed the use of the FilmConvert plugin-did you use it for this video? If yes, which film profile did you select?
Thanks so much!!
I always use Filmconvert (link in the description) and for this one I used the KD5207 stock as I do most of the time :).
Nice shots of our capital city. I live in Ostend, wich is at the Belgian coast, 100km from Brussels.
Thanks!! Beautiful country :)
Flo! do you denoise the daytime footage ever? it looks amazing! This is my favorite type of video, felt like i was there. amazing work man
Thank you!! I usually only denoise nighttime footage. For this video I think I only denoised 1 or 2 shots from inside the church and that's it.
What a beautiful work once again! you managed to capture the real atmosphere of my city!
Glad you enjoyed it bro! Thanks for showing us around! Can’t wait to come back next year ☺️😍👊
Wow, wow, wow. Your films just go to a different level every time. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks so much 🙏🙏
Good stuff Flo!
Thanks ☺️🙏
Flo making any location look like a movie 👏 nice locations help of course but I think you could make even my hometown look like cinema 👏
You’re too kind, thank you!! 🙏
Absolutely gorgeous
Thank you mate!!
Saw the stills on Reddit and thought it was you!
Great stuff!
Thanks mate!
Excellent grading!
Thank you!!
This was so relaxing to watch! Stunning visuals. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thanks so much for watching :) !!
This looks sick man, love your videos, the BMCC camera in your hand does have some magic
Thanks so much mate!!
Gorgeous😎
Thanks ☺️
hey I just noticed that the 3:2 aspect ratio looks really nice on a 16:10 macbook pro display! it looked too narrow on my phone, but on the computer, Whoa... very immersive!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!!
Inspiring, beautiful, and clean always. Well done Flo! ❤🎬
Thank you ☺️🙏
Such a cool (and surprising) city! Beautiful memories!
(Haha also 'I spy with my little eye' - mine and Finn's silhouettes on that elevator we HAD to go up and down on about a thousand times😆
Really enjoyed that trip and city :)
Haha yes, he sure loved that elevator!
Really nice Flo as always. Reminds me to stop down more - what aperture were you using? I can imagine reasonably stopped down on the FF sensor tog et that DOF?
I had a one day shoot there a year ago including some real run and gun city/street footage. It was great fun and the footage was great (P4K)! Three days would've been luxury!
Thank you mate!! I shot at varied aperture but mostly 5.6 and 8.
Such a great place film and capture :)
@@OfTwoLands Nicely done! I'd love to shoot Bruges too - haven't been there for may years (last time I was just shooting stills on vacation but it would be a stunning city to film)...
Your work is inspirational! followed your channel for a while, always get inspired! Keep it up
Thanks so much for the kind words 🙏
Yes, I have been there. And I have a lot of footage from there, but I didn't have yet the time for editing. Your clip reminds me of the moments spent there.
I really enjoyed the city :)
Amazing! just amazing. I'd love to visit someday.
Thank you!! Such a beautiful city 😍
c'est sublime !
Merci ☺️🙏
Unbelievable that these are hand held! What is your secret?!
Haha practice, steady hands, short clips, is lens and a bit of stabilisation in post :).
Speechless! 👏💥🔥
☺️🙏
Beautiful as always!
Thank you!!
Extremely moving frames!! Quick question: I noticed banding at 0:49 in the sky and at 3:09 also on the ferris wheel. I've noticed it on some of my 6k full frame footage, I was just wondering if that's something you notice in the raw footage as well?
Incredible and so inspiring frames! Well done! Handheld or tripod?
Thank you!! All handheld :)
The first shot had me stay through the video. As always.
Glad you liked it :), thank you!!
Ouh lala! Super la vidéo Flo. 💪🏼
Merci beaucoup 🙏🙏🙏
wow
☺️🙏
Amazing ! As usual.
Thank you!!
Beautiful frames ❤
Thanks ☺️🙏
Beautifully shot. For me... I think the frames were cut too fast. I may have edited it the same, you dont want to make the vid too long (lose attention) and you wanna get all those nice shots in. But staying in the shot might have brought me closer to the space and matched the tempo of the music more. Looks amazing though!
Thanks for watching and for your feedback :)
Amazing shots!
Thank you!!
Beautiful as always 💯👏. I have a question. Does the stabilization of the Lens work on the BMCC 6k body?
Thank you!! And yes it does and it helps :).
Oh man, I should have known. I live 20 minutes south of Brussels. I would have payed a coffee. Great video.
Thanks mate! I'll definitely be back :)
@@OfTwoLands you let me know !
Videos from this camera are sharper than those from the 6K Pro, or does it just seem that way to me?
It’s possible yes, it feels like that to me too!
The shadows are so clean! What ISO were you shooting at primarily?
Thanks!! ISO 400 for most of the clips with a few at 1250. I actually only denoised just a few shots and in a very quick and minimal way.
@@OfTwoLands well it's very impressive! Good work as always!
Excellent sans surprise !
Merci 🙏👊
Hey Flo! Love your videos, you’re a huge inspiration to me! I know you use FilmConvert, but how do you get such contrasty low-light images? Do you expose for things to be that dark? Or just crush your shadows in the grade?
Thanks man!! I expose for the brightest point of the image or at least I try to go as close to not clipping the highlights and when the contrast is that high like the church or sunset or the room with the table it basically keeps the shadows dark. And yes the grade helps too.
I truly love your cinematography!! I'm currently deciding between a Blackmagic camera and a Sony FX3. While I love Blackmagic's color science, as a solo shooter who travels a lot and occasionally needs to be in front of the camera, I'm wondering if it would be practical to use a Blackmagic. I know the Sony offers autofocus, but would the lack of autofocus on the Blackmagic be a significant issue? I want to improve my skills and will primarily be using a tripod or gimbal, with minimal handheld shooting.
Thank you!! I think it depends on you and your style. I don't think you can go wrong either way. If image and pure cinematography is your focus though then the BM would be a better option just because of the color science, codecs and overall image quality. Personally I would pick the Sony for AF and size only. 2 different cameras aimed at different people but both capable of great things!
@@OfTwoLands Thank you so much for your reply. I'm a beginner, and my main focus is definitely on image and cinematography, which makes the Blackmagic camera really appealing. The only reason I’m considering the Sony FX3 is because I’ll be solo shooting, traveling in both warm and cold climates, I'm not always in a controlled setting. My main concern is that I also need to be in the frame at times, and I’m wondering if that would be feasible with the Blackmagic? The FX3's autofocus, battery life, and weather resistance are said to be better but I might regret sacrificing the image quality of the Blackmagic. XD
Nice!
Thanks!!
Gorgeous! What lenses? Arles?
Thank you!!
21-105 F4. The kit is listed in the description :).
How do you color grading your videos?
I use Filmconvert, I’ve made a video about it a while ago so feel free to check it out ☺️🎨
so beautiful !! (・(エ)・)//
Really is!!
