For the past 10 years I have been filming short documentaries and in this video I want to talk about one aspect of documentary work, the cinematography.
I will discuss how I approach my documentary projects in terms of composition, movement, gear and lighting but I also want to talk about the limits and how it differs from commercial or narrative work.

We are absolutely spoiled in the choices for gear out there as well as Davinci Resolve and the various software tools to go along with that. More than enough to make amazing images across any platform.

Nice piece brother! Lots of really good quality valuable information in there!!! I’d love to add that ‘taste’ is a really big part of all of those things - lighting, grading, framing, camera movement, and that’s why your work really shines too is because you have really good taste. It’s often about the subtleties and I think that taste is what makes the final piece greater than the sum of all of its parts.

Thank you for this video. Its one of the most high yield I've seen. Do you have any tips being more intentional about getting slow motion coverage, or knowing when to shoot at higher fps for slow motion?
Thanks so much for the positive feedback!! I usually make the decision based on the action or to add some variety to the piece or to maximise my time. I never slow down things in post, always in camera. I don't often do . Water and sports would be the main reasons as well as specific actions such as the forge.

Thank you!! Now I mostly shoot BRAW since I use the 6K FF a lot or I mix cameras. But I use both and love both.
I would say soon I will probably use only BRAW for all cameras based on the way BM is making their new cams.

I Have A question to ask? Hope you reply and briefly explain this Why does BMCC footage Look great on its own monitor rather than using external monitors like feel world lut7 is it because the external monitors have limited colours.
Not sure what you mean, it looks great on my SmallHD one for example.

Hey, 23.98 et 60fps. Shutter angle 180 etISO 400 1250 and un peu aussi a 2500/3200 pour le forgeron.
