WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

There is no hate like Christian love.
You've hit the nail on head... As a Faithful minded person I think that we are the fulcrum of love and hate, we are the medium! That's the whole point in choice "freewill" if there is such a thing "in the moment" ... But, We bring into existence, both of those things, we do that... Not God! and the Bible? Those written words, just like anything else, the manipulation of the selfish human! We believe what we believe, because we've chosen to believe it... And, Bayesian, I figure a exact opposite of me is probably in the here and now as well! Love and Hate!
Christains dont hate we just live by a different value system then people who are purposely rebeling agaisnt their creator

Theists don't want atheists telling people what to believe because theists want the exclusive right to tell people what to believe.
No......They want the right to force people to believe certain *BELIEFS* and never think about how those beliefs fail when compared to reality.

@@Angelum_Band Can you back that statement up with evidence?
Sorry I was on the computer for the latter half of this call. I was trying to pull up a textbook that I wanted to quote to Jay. I actually found it a little later in the show. Here's the quote:
"Gender is not the same as sex, Biological sex refers to the anatomical and physiological phenotype of an individual. Gender is a category assigned by the individual or others based on behavior and cultural practices. One's gender need not coincide with one's biological sex."
Genetics: A Conceptual Approach - Benjamin Pierce - 7th Edition
As transphobes like to say, it's literally basic biology.
Gender identity is a religion based on the delusion that an individual's feelings about their own gender overrides their own sex.
I will reiterate 100% of the people in this chat exist and are the result of the interaction and most likely intercourse between a man and a woman.
@@Angelum_Band Congratulations, you have an opinion. 🙄
@@ookeekthelibrarian from the university located directly up their ass
@@cajunking5987 "gender identity" is typically tied to traditional gender norms related to feminity and masculinity. Personally, I don't like the concept of gender identity at all because your genitals have little bearing on anything other than your role in reproduction and how easy it is to piss standing up. In a way, "gender identity" gives both a giant middle finger and a big hug to gender stereotypes. On one hand, it says that you can wear, talk, or do whatever you want no matter what genitals you have. On the other hand, it solidifes the idea that male and female are masculine and feminine, respectively.
Basically, we're comparing biology and psychology. One has to deal with your physical body, the other pertains to the psyche.
@@cajunking5987 Your lack of understanding doesn't make it meaningless.
I love how quickly Forrest comes up with clever and eloquent responses, like "You believe a Jewish Zombie will burn my soul" to show how absurd of a thing the other person said was
Jay's question was accurate. Forrest believes that a male can be a woman. Jay accused them accurately of believing a woman can be a man and a man can be a woman. Males are men and females are woman. It is not logically possible for a male to be a woman.
Heard that one about zombie before. I even saw stickers.
It's overused and absolutely cringe. Just like the spaghetti monster. We get it you think God isn't real. But this is just childish mocking not a real engagement with what Christians believe.
@@EbonyPope That's the whole reason Forrest used it as an example - to highlight the wilful mischaracterization of his position by the the caller.
@@EbonyPope Those statements are only used to point out the absurdity in the claims religious folks make.
Forrest makes an excellent point about “Jesus loves you” being a hateful message. I’ve never been able to explain it that succinctly before.
It's actually threatening and gas lighting.
It's like a very bad parent or partner saying they "love you" before or after they abuse you.
"I do this because I love you"
"This hurts me more than it hurts you"
"I love you, but sometimes I just get so mad"
It's like the crazy stalker that loves you so much that they wanna torture you for eternity if you don't love them back.
Yeah, it's always made me feel icky, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. This explanation is perfect and helped me understand it better too.
@foxfireman188-ls1kv yeah, "unconditional love" is toxic in almost any relationship (still trying to figure out if it toxic for your children, but idk if I could not love my child no matter what, so...), but God doesn't love us unconditionally even though he says he does, cause if he did, Hell wouldn't be a place he actively sends people.
I've always interpreted the statement as a multi use jab depending on the context
For ex
If said in response to me simple saying im an atheist
Jesus loves you = go fúçk yourself
If said at the end of a debate especially a heated one
Jesus loves you = go fúçk yourself you know im right
If said in response to me pointing out anything immoral done by god in the bible
Jesus loves you = dont read the bad bits otherwise its harder to believe the story and if less people believe then that makes it harder for me to keep believing so go fúçk yourself and just be a christian
The WORST thing you can do to a conservative "christian" is treat them they way they treat everyone else.
I’m a libertarian minded liberal atheist and I’ve got to say that I’ve found conservative Christians can share space and live & let live better than most of my leftist friends who can become screeching leftist wokescolds at the drop of a hat.
Setting them on fire forever is so cathartic though.
I've tried locking them in my basement too but stopped at the fact that I don't have a basement.
God Loves you
@tim which god?
I'm an atheist, and I don't tell people, unless they ask me. And if they ask, it's usually because they're preparing to try and convert me to their way of beliefs.
Hi, Did it occur to you that maybe they want you to see the TRUTH, and by not knowing the TRUTH you will not know where you are heading. If a parent tells his son something he thinks is good for his son, did you ask yourself did he say it out of love and he does not want you to be astray. If you are a parent and love your kids, you will see the sense of what I am saying. If somebody says to you that GOD can bring you to the heavenly realm. Would it be great to know if it is real? Everything you see in this world will be left behind, and yet people have been deceived by their self-centeredness, and what the world has to offer. What you gain for having the world and yet lost your soul. What is in the world belongs to the world when your time is up it will be passed down or forgotten. Would you think you still care for them when you are gone? Harden, not your heart, seek the TRUTH not because that is what others say, but because you want to know what is the TRUTH.

How infuriating, to have someone lump you in with a broad category of people, tell you outright what you do and don't believe, calmly explain your position to them, only to have them completely ignore your argument and come back again with "yeah, but that's what you guys believe". As a 60 year atheist that identifies as a woman I say it's about time we start screaming from the roof tops that God does not exist. Here in North America the religious right feel empowered to spread their myth and although they are a minority they are gaining strength.
If we do not speak up we will once again find ourselves hiding our disbelief for fear of purscusion.
For most of my life I have quietly kept my beliefs (sorry disbelief) to myself, trying to avoid confrontation, no more!
We live in the 21st century and if we want to make it to the 22nd we must stop expecting that a mythical creature will save us.
First of all "As a 60 year atheist that identifies as a woman"
what does your sex have to do with your age, Why did you mention you were a woman ?
in your explanation that followed, there was nothing that pertained to you being a woman or that relied on us knowing you are a women
it was weird to say that, Just saying
Secondly " I say it's about time we start screaming from the roof tops that God does not exist."
i get what you're saying, but.. YOU DON'T KNOW IF HE EXISTS, none of us do.
so as wrong as it is for a christian to say that he does exist
it is equally wrong for you to say definitively that he doesn't exist
as wrong as it is for a christian to "spread the word" It is equally wrong for you to shout it from the roof tops
i get where you are coming from though, BUT YOU ARE COMING FROM A POSITION OF FRUSTRATION, which is not a good place to come from.
so i'll give you a solution THAT IS ACTUALLY FACTUAL, and you can feel free to shout this from the rooftops if you nee an itch to scratch
THE BIBLE IS NOT TRUTH
THE BIBLE IS NOT GODS WORD
I'm 49, i've been an ordained minister (now.. Technically i'm currently an ordained minister because when you are ordained you are so for life, my point being... i'm no longer with the church).
Now.. both those statements are absolutely correct. See.. Christians believe that the bible is god's word, I'TS NOT and it's a very very easy thing to prove incorrect.
The bible itself also teaches it is a sin to follow any other word other than the word of god, Jesus taught this and god taught this (supposedly) .
God also taught that if you follow a word other than his own you condemn yourself to hell
so.. you can preach that
How easy is it to prove that... PISS EASY
look in the bible, find the publishing company
Call them and ask them these 2 questions
1. Is this bible god's original word
2. Has this bible been altered in any way from it's original wording
See, BY LAW they have to tell you, and they'll usually answer like this
1. No it's not his original word, it's the INSPIRED WORD of god, which means it's not gods word
(this should be a wake up call for any christian)
2. it has been altered but we are free to alter or change the bible legaly without any prior notification
See.. the thing is , Legally they are obligated to tell you ADVISE YOU its' bullshit,
so as a consumer if you buy it (and it's sold on an AS IS Basis) you are responsible for your eternity . THE LAW IS COOL HUH ? LOL
so it's that easy to prove, just call teh company that wrote it and ask them.
so you can shout that from the roof
so we don't know if god exists
we do know that jesus did exist
but none of that matters if the bible is false
and the bible being false has no bearing on gods reputation nor his existence
Tackle a simpler subject first, one that people will accept easier
THE BIBLE IS NOT GOD'S WORD, simple as that
because from this position.... You are not telling people
- Don't believe in god
- Don't believe in jesus
YOU ARE SAYING.... THAT BOOK THAT YOU HOLD IS COMPLETE BULLSHIT AND IF ANYTHING READING IT DAMNS YOU TO HELL (assuming hell exists)
it then forces them to do this.....
"But i still want to believe in my creator"
GREAT.... THEN PUT YOUR BIBLE DOWN since it goes against him
AND TALK TO HIM DIRECTLY
Imagine this....
A World where every person has put down the bible and knows that it's bullshit.
but some of them have taken to talking to god and say that he is real
Do you now see how much easier the problem is to solve
all they would then have as proof is that they believe god is real
so yeah go shout that from a rooftop
but to say god doesn't exist is not a claim you can make truthfully
but doing it my way achieves your goal in any case, doesn't it?
The only myth here is that your a woman.

From across the pond, I’ve no idea what “woke” means and frankly I don’t care. This caller represents religious bigotry perfectly.
I grew up in a Christian household/community in Texas. As a child, I always thought it odd elders and peers would preach one thing, but act in a contradictory way. This made me to distrust many of them. Beyond religion, many of the same people were down right cruel to others. I never expressed my views to anyone back then due to fear of being ostracized, and thus I was spared. Granted, there are some kind Christians out there, but in my region of the world, the mean ones outnumbered the kind ones by a large margin. I'm not speaking of just family either, this was almost everyone I met. The saturation of theists was really evident in the sheer number of churches in my hometown. In one spot there are literally four separate churches within a one mile strip of a single road. This is common throughout the small city, and still is today.
More recently in my travels around the state, I noticed a billboard ad campaign by an evangelical mega church along the highways of I10, I20, and I35 (and probably others) telling everyone to admit they are a sinner (ABC's). A Christian colleague of mine thought nothing of it when I pointed it out. I asked them what they would think if it was a billboard for another religion, such as Islam, and they could/would not provide an answer.
I find it interesting how when speaking with Christians openly about Atheism how I'm met with many of the same generalizations your guest provided. My personal path to secularism had nothing to do with science, teaching of biology, evolution nor the plight of the "woke" LGBT crowd. It was strictly the hypocrisy of theists. We as a group are extremely fractured in our beliefs other than lacking the belief in a higher power. I think this is why secular thinking hasn't really taken off. But, we are growing in numbers. I hope the trend of secularism continues in the same direction, even if it does take another 50 years to become the majority.

The housing market isn't going to fall more than the 20% it recent did. In fact it will likely go back up. The demand is still there, the supply isn't. There are about 10 factors that will maintain the demand for at least the next decade.
The minute he said "woke" lack of understanding came shining thru.
Define "woke".
I wish i had the level of confidence this guy has when he's wrong, when I'm right
being 'woke' means that you have researched the information on a topic, formed an opinion and are willing to actively support that view. the opposite would be 'the sleep of ignorance' where you don't care for facts and follow 'culture influencers' without a skeptical review.
No it doesn't. That's not anybody's definition of it. I realize it's a dumb term and it's nebulous, but to try to say it's synonymous with "skeptical" is just not correct. You know that when people use it, they're talking about a certain position (what would be considered the "liberal" one) on culture war issues.
Generally I’ve found it’s self-applied by the least tolerant and most ignorant leftist wokescolds who award themselves endless unearned virtue and intelligence.
@@sledzeppelin and what is that position?
@@sledzeppelin I wouldn't conflate "woke" with "sceptical" either. but what, exactly, is it you think is "woke"? Do you mean everything you disagree with, because that's what it sounds like.
@@sledzeppelin it seems that "woke" is used as insult to try and stop people from supporting equality and societal changes and to destroy credibility of arguments.
And every time I have seen or heard someone to use it, it is used against people and arguments which have been sceptically researched and support equality, rights of minority, show how terrible society is at its present state, etc.
So I see no reason to disagree with Peter Martell. What reason you have?
First time seeing Christy, really fantastic role model for patience, education and respectful conversation. Bravo 🙌
Oh, but another poster said that 'we' are as toxic as theists. I will admit I use a bunch of cuss words at theists. I personally think they are all insane. However, I do not advocate or promote a lie and use that to horrifically injure or kill human beings.
I wish this call went on longer. This guy is the best example as to what is wrong with religious zealots.
Ah, that's cute, Jay thinks beliefs deserve respect: they don't, people deserve basic respect, that's fundamentally different
Correct.
I usually reply with:
I'm sure the children of the Christain KKK are wonderful kids, but their beliefs? Outrageous.
Beliefs are clearly not automatically respected.
@@kimsland999 Beliefs are mutable and abstract, people have experiences, emotions, etc, so they should be treated as such, albeit not as an absolute, like when they're being abusive, etc. Cut that cancer out of your life, I say, esp. if they don't get help
This is exactly right... People believe in huge numbers of conspiracies with no proof or evidence... The list goes on and on...
You should be respectful to other people. But the idea that a belief should be respected by default is absurd.
@@ToHoldNothing Sometimes on these shows they define beliefs as having so much knowledge (I know that I know that I know) that this is a belief.
But that's NOT what religous beliefs are! Yes it may be a scientist using the word belief in that way, but theists do not know. And this is immediately shown when you ask: But how do you know? How do I know? Um... Hmm... I just feel that way (in my heart!) That's not knowledge in the respect of 'knowing' stuff is true or not.
In my view religous beliefs are not about ppl who have extensive knowledge, they are using belief in the definition of: I don't know that's why I believe. i.e. The complete opposite to how we'd normally define a belief.
Belief in Christainity is about things unseen ('unseen' means no evidence of in theism).
They believe because of emotions, feelings, personal stories, not knowledge!
@@kimsland999 A better term might be faith or even creed, which I think does have a similar root to credulity, interestingly enough
It's insane that Forrest can explain athiesm ideologies SO eloquently & so expertly.....and then realize this caller has no clue where the conversation is going & is simply waiting for his next opportunity to speak.
I love this channel, but the hosts must have SO much more patience than I do. Walking these callers, point by point, to thinking points SO much more profound than what they're organically capable of grasping.....
I think it's admirable how calm & focused you're able to stay.
