It’s mind boggling that people say it’s hard to be vegan. It’s hard if you eat out everyday since there is probably one vegan restaurant in every town with 30 meat restaurants. But if you cook your own food like I do. I just strictly shop in the veggies section. What’s hard about going down one isle instead of two. Yeah the biggest lie ever told. @@EverMeadow I would do outreach to carnivorous plants if they could be vegan. Unlike carnivorous plants, humans don't need to consume animals to survive. Animal life is sentient, plant life is not. Sentience is the key.
@@ColburnClark Its not wrong for plants to eat humans or animals. Most cemeteries are around forests/tree areas. Most medicines/drugs are made out of plants and those kill so many people.
@@EverMeadow Sure, I agree. I would add its wrong for humans to consume animals because 1)we don't have to in order to be healthy 2)animals want to live just like us. They resist death and fear danger just like healthy humans do. Animals have their own thoughts and their own worlds inside them. Animals are fed more plants than vegans consume despite Ted Nugent / apathetic industry propaganda. Being vegan respects animal sentience. If plants were sentient, which they are not, being vegan would be better for them too since animals eat plants their entire lives, more plants than we need to consume directly to be healthy.
I made all of those excuses too. This video is so good. I do sometimes wonder what finally caused me to make the change given that I was 59. What was ‘the last straw’ for me? I’m not even an ‘animal lover’ really. My daughter absolutely adores animals yet has no intention of stopping eating them (though in her case she actually genuinely doesn’t eat much meat mainly because she lives with us and I don’t provide any and she is lazy). My wife became wholly plant based with me but she has bought into the negative publicity about vegans so whilst she is happy living a totally vegan lifestyle she won’t identify with vegans.
One thing that always bugged me, was Destiny's Vegan take, even before I went Vegan myself. Funnily enough he was definitely a part of my "vegan journey".
Another thought provoking video Natalie! Even if one doesn’t care about animals ( why a person wouldn’t, I can’t even 🤦🏻♀️) they should remember that people suffer: working/slaving, mentally and physically in the seafood and meat/dairy industries 😢
Farms don’t operate without illegal immigrants taking the bulk of the work. They are over worked under represented and hardly paid. The pot can’t call the kettle black. Industry is the true evil. Unfortunately, you can’t feed a nation of vegans without the agricultural industry.
9:55 This is such a KEY point. The general oppressiveness of life makes people change averse, also makes it it easier to "turn off" our empathy. I bet more people would adopt veganism, if work and school weeks were 4-days or less, across the board. Awesome video!! 💯

Was just watching David Attenborough on Netflix animal documentary today. He was showing how much land bison have lost to agriculture in the USA. Let the bison get their prairies back and I will eat one the bison that feeds of that grass. Sounds like a win win for the bison and the environment.
i personally hate the disput meat eaters and vegans have. We should never dislike a person because of their choice of eating. I for example tried low carb, wanted to loose only a few kilos. It worked. Yes! i ate a bit more meat in the process but most if it comes from ruminent animals that live outside the whole year actually. And here in europe we had gas shortages almost and the amoniak from the Haber Bosch procedure was for a time quite expensive. It is especially needed for fertilizer for plants. But the cattles did not need any fertilizer. They are fertilizing everything around them, even trees stand there and other smaller animals are present very different actually to a corn or wheat field. I come from the countryside actually and i have seen what they have to do in mice plague years to get ahead of the pest. Shoot poison down in every present mouse hole. In special years it is thousands of mice depending on the size of the field. So there is killing going on on a big scale as well. Not to speak of the young deer that is butchered by mistake. Which on the countryside people make no big fuss about because we have lots of deer and to little hunters and they eat a lot of the young trees. Back to my low carb diet and eating more beef meat. Besides my kilos, my athritis in the fingers went totally away and the asthma that was present for 34 years every day, needed at least 2 inhaler shots a day was suddenly gone to the point where i started to forget the inhaler at home. Can someone imagine how that feels, after such a long time. Running without asthma! It was and is a almost a miracle. So stay open and investigative my vegan friends out there.

Hmm I watch vegan content almost daily, to not really any lies I can tell myself. I believe livestock welfare should definitely improve, but aside from eating slightly less pork, it hasn't changed my views on eating animal products.
I highly recommend you watch Dr. Ken Berrys videos about the proper human diet. Make sure you read the comments under his videos. People have reversed type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, IBS, RA, skin conditions, and the list goes on all from eating a proper human diet.

The editing and quality is great, and I love your choice of words.
Going vegan creates a level of Empathy inside us we didn't know we could have. Only now (being Vegan for 5 years) I recognize the horrible lies and agenda meat/dairy/egg/fish industry perpetuates. The subliminal messaging in commercials, poster boards, packaging... I used to never pay attention to the commercials because I was just a mindless consumer. Now I see it. “People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” (Carl Jung)
Remember: All vegan's empathy has been working nicely for the last 200 years only with supermarkets nearby full of domisticated artificial fruits and veggies brought to them from the other part of the world.
Yes we should celebrate the modern technology that allows us to evolve away from using animals as resources. And as far as food transportation of plants, it doesn't produce as much emissions as raising animals locally
Hey Natalie, really interesting perspectives from you and video. It got recommended to me. I find that there's barely any sane, rational people on either side of the argument around this and that everyone is a bit sadistic and narcissistic towards each other about this subject. Just wanted to leave a positive comment letting you know that you conducting yourself more gracefully than most is appreciated by some even if only a small minority of people care about that.
There are a number of reasons for being Vegan. One of which is animal welfare. For me the issue of the impact that modern meat eating has upon the environment, especially climate change, is important. Reducing meat production would be a good thing. Along those lines could meat be produced that did not involve killing animals? The concept is the growing of meat, much like brewing beer. This proto-industry is fast developing. My question is: If meat is "grown" and does not involve killing, then does this permit vegans to eat meat?
Veganism is about causing the least harm that is possible and practicable. There are far more deaths in the meat industry cause most of the crops are fed to animals. So to cause the least harm you'll eat the crops themselves rather than feeding the crops to animals and then eating the animals. Even if you think pastured animals require less crops they do require far more land which impacts wildlife. Estimates are grass fed beef uses twice as much land so beef already uses 50% of all farmland while dairy uses an additional 25%. That's 75% of farmland going to produce food making up 6% of calories. That's a lot of land that could be habitat for wildlife meaning a great amount of harm for species survival. If you switch to grass fed you double that. 150% of farmland needed for cows and then the additional 25% for everything else and you need 175% of current farmland to switch to grass fed animals. We don't have enough forests to cut down to supply that. Animal ag already uses 2/3 of the worlds ice free land. So now you need 4/3 of the entire earth just for cows. I don't know if your good at fractions but that's more earth's than we own.
Big difference between intentionally raping ,abusing, killing someone and unintentional killing (like are you suggesting we should stop walking because there are millions of ants that get killed that way ? ) Daily we use products where humans /animals might be abused but does that mean we should ignore when we see someone owning slaves and abusing them like they do with other non human animals. Ofcourse we will fight them but also at the same time we can make sure the daily products we use are ethically produced or reduce their consumption. Likewise we can try growing a lot in our home and see if the fruits , vegetables comes from a organic(pesticides free) farm. And vegans probably don't own those farms where such practices happen. They can definitely force big corporate only if ppl become self sufficient and the only way for farms to stay relevant is to look into non cruel ways of growing food (like the gmo almond variety that doesn't requires bees for pollination). Ppl are self identifying themselves as vegan for different reasons but not what veganism is really about. So hopefully that mindset will change and is changing because of many good animal activists. So if you really are vegan (which I think can be quite a difficult task or not depending on where you live) you would be looking for solutions to reduce the suffering instead of say keep on munching dead body parts and keep giving out excuses while planet has become a hell hole for for specific animals (both humans and non humans ),mental illness is at the highest and we are probably dead from either zoonotic diseases or impending antibiotics resistance pandemic.
This was a wonderful video Natalie, what a beautiful soul you are! Before I gave up meat 42 years ago I followed the programming of my parents, and I do believe that this is the biggest reason why most meat eaters cater to their traditional upbringing, rather than upset their diet roots. As a Vegan minster and vegan debater for fourteen years, I would like to mention that besides all of the lies that you spoke of in this video, there is still yet another lie that meat eaters always use in their defense of consuming animal flesh, The lie that was not mentioned in your video is the human deception that God and Jesus Christ gave human beings the sanctified right to eat animals, and to dominate and use animals in whatever way that human beings see fit. As a theologian, I see this as one of the greatest lies that meat eaters tell every time God is brought up in a vegan debate. In truth, God's diet choice for human beings is plant-based and there is verified written proof the bible that confirms this. The industry of religion is a huge part of the spreading to lies to the public at large, and in fact, their lies are as bad as the propaganda that is coming out of the meat and animal industries themselves. In truth, God Clearly told us, Genesis 7:2, “Keep the animals alive throughout the earth.” Genesis 1:29, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food." God Bless!

Even tho i don't know what she means im just going assume she said something smart'' And ''I eat only a little bit of palm-oil'' Basically its very scary to catch yourself in your own cognitive dissonance and seeing how i use the same defense mechanism as meat eaters. In fact me writing this comment is probably another attempt to make me feel better about products i buy that have palm-oil in it. Fucking dang it now i have to change. (Ok im not going to )
I envy the people who was taught about veganism, I never was taught but the moment someone told me I gone vegan that very moment… if only I even heard about the term… before I was 26 I never heard about veganism or plant base eating. But I’m glad it only took me a simple explanation, I guess I had already the drivers installed or something like that. I feel so bad about that, I feel like I have been so distracted by something that actually is so loud in my mind
I've also learnt that questioning these excuses to not going vegan is the first step to convince people of the opposite. Keep in mind it is a process that takes time, so keep going.
Personally I eat happy cows from a local regenerative farm. Sure they only live a few years, but they live well and its a carbon negative operation - they're sequestering it, building up the soil, by implementing non selective grazing practices.
Great video, Natalie. What the heck is that clip of Destiny and the chicken? That was nutso! I don't think I ever really lied to myself. It was more ignorance than denial. The day I went vegan it was instantaneous. One minute I ate meat, the next I was a vegan. So it always puzzles me when I hear people say how difficult it would be to convert.
I told myself I could not be vegan because I have a very monotonous taste. But after going vegan I discovered so many foods I never tried before and I liked it. Even some foods I did not like before, I like now.
I’m vegan and have almost no contact with animals. I only have a cow, pig, and chicken plushie on my table so I remember them when I eat- that’s as close as animals get to me. Sometimes I see deer in the distance when I go for walks. I see dogs on leashes looking at me like prisoners when I watch my neighbors go on walks. I don’t need to hug or french kiss a dog to empathize with animals. People make a big show of their “animal affection,” but that compassion just needs to come from the inside.
Thanks for commenting! It's a common myth that more animals die farming vegetables, but animals have to eat WAY more plants than if we eat them directly. Plus, farmers try to avoid killing animals with their machinery because it clogs it up

Yea, I still have sometimes problems with sweets but I’m getting better at saying no when someone asks if I want a slice of cake but the meat was easy, I did that cold turkey after watching OKJA on Netflix (and the animal in that movie isn’t even real 😅 but it acted like a cow) and cheese took about two months to get rid of. I’ll be 5yrs vegan this year.
I knew for years that factory farming was cruel and the meat industries lied about it. I used to be so proud of myself for buying the most expensivest pasture raised eggs, which now i know is more orbless just a marketing strategy.
i eat meat because its a an effective dietary option. Most peoples moral considerations on hurting animals are that they prioritize their wellbeing over that of an animal which is a tenable position. I would think the best way to convince people of veganism would be sharing tasty vegan dishes. i.e make good vegan food that can compete with a steak, and i dont mean fake meat
I was always very empathic toward animals. The only reason I kept eating them was that my family literally indoctrinated me with the idea that I had to eat meat or I would have died. When I realized that was a lie I quickly became vegan. I've been vegan for 14 years now. ^_^
Eating mostly vegetarian food with egg, milk and cheese as my source of protein. If it is more feasible for me to be Vegan, I aspire to be Vegan since it is hard to get protein supplements here in the Philippines.
i used to think it was okay because being meat was the purpose of that animal's life... then after throwing out enough leftover hotdogs night after night at my part time fast food job, I realized at a certain point those hotdogs added up to a whole animal that wasn't killed to be eaten but to be wasted entirely and the rest of the justifications also crumbled away for me from there. 2 years vegan and wish it had been longer!
The lie I told myself: "I'm going to do this vegan diet to lose weight and to get healthy; I'm not doing it for the animals, that's Stupid." 😂 I'm a co-organizer for AV now lol 😆
I love when vegans tell their perspective from being a meat-eater in the past, and being resistant to veganism. This is the most inspiring.

They just don’t care about the animals and most never will. Only way they would stop eating meat is it affects them negatively if all the meat they consume starts carrying disease and they get sick. Self reason to stop if it hurts themself.
Great question! I remember the only time someone said something to me I said "she's crazy and didn't know what she was talking about." And that was only about milk. Then my wife got sick and we found Dan the 'liferegenerator' on RUclips. Changed my life and I have been vegan since. That was 15 years ago and I'm so happy that I changed my life. He has changed a lot too and is a different person now. I miss the old Dan the man with the master plan.
Really well done and thought out. I only wish my friends and family would watch this.
Strategic ignorance is why I think disruptive activism can be effective. They know what's happening and are attempting to avoid accountability. Vegans cannot make another person go vegan or make them not go vegan. That idea is psychological bullying by non-vegans. Great video!
Thanks so much for the support!
Donut put so much blame on humans plants influence the world just as much.
Funnily enough he was definitely a part of my "vegan journey".
less animals eaten = less suffering. Telling people you're either a vegan or a murderer is not productive.
I bet more people would adopt veganism, if work and school weeks were 4-days or less, across the board.

i personally hate the disput meat eaters and vegans have.
Great analysis. I'll keep this to present when needed. 👏 👏 👏
I still shake my head when i hear.. 'grass-fed beef'.. they found a way to take the actual cow right out of it.
So many great points mentioned here
If you don’t eat meat , you still have to eat plants which are , other living things that don’t want to be eaten , I don’t see the difference, other then it’s harder to relate to plants 🌱

Thank you for this! Being vegan is the best ❤
Sure, as long as no animals are harmed then lab grown meat would be ethical
What about all the animals that die in the production of vegetable, fruit, grain, etc, agriculture? 🤔
Big difference between intentionally raping ,abusing, killing someone and unintentional killing (like are you suggesting we should stop walking because there are millions of ants that get killed that way ? )
Daily we use products where humans /animals might be abused but does that mean we should ignore when we see someone owning slaves and abusing them like they do with other non human animals.
As a Vegan minster and vegan debater for fourteen years, I would like to mention that besides all of the lies that you spoke of in this video, there is still yet another lie that meat eaters always use in their defense of consuming animal flesh,
The lie that was not mentioned in your video is the human deception that God and Jesus Christ gave human beings the sanctified right to eat animals, and to dominate and use animals in whatever way that human beings see fit.
In truth, God Clearly told us,
Genesis 7:2, “Keep the animals alive throughout the earth.”
Genesis 1:29, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."
God Bless!
Thank You Natalie.

I thought humans needed to eat animal products to be healthy. This seems to be the most popular antivegan argument.
People say that often, but it's not true
@@Natalie.FultonFor some it is. Eagle McMahon is a great example of an athlete who was a very dedicated vegan, but due to injury, and health complications, now has to eat some animal parts. There are many athletes with the same story. For some veganism has ruined their bodies and careers. I support vegans, but come on you have to have better then, “that’s a lie”
That argument is used because it’s true. Our species has predominantly eaten meat for hundreds of thousands of years, it is our species appropriate diet. It’s only through modern intervention that veganism is even possible.
@@ChadKasten-zv7lzand you've also got to do better than random anecdotes with no in-depth information.
@@AJ-sl7be real life experience of people are not anecdotes. If a diet makes people unhealthy, it’s a bad diet. Nothing anecdotal about that, it’s called science.

The nutritional dogma kept me for many years.
The strategic ignorance is that i' guilty in when thinking about palm-oil. And a lot of thoughts come up dealing with cognitive dissonance.
Thoughts like ''Oh but i'm already vegan so im doing so much better then others so i don't need to think about palm-oil''
Or ''Oh i heard another vegan lady say something like but palm-oil does not count. Even tho i don't know what she means im just going assume she said something smart''
And ''I eat only a little bit of palm-oil''
Basically its very scary to catch yourself in your own cognitive dissonance and seeing how i use the same defense mechanism as meat eaters.
In fact me writing this comment is probably another attempt to make me feel better about products i buy that have palm-oil in it.

Thank you for this amazing video Natalie! 💚The psychology behind carnism is very interesting.
There are some great points in this video!!
Something must die for something else to eat. More animals die to vegan farming rather than just eating meat. Your welcome😅

Fantastic video. I'm glad you addressed Destiny's cognitive dissonance.
i eat meat because its a an effective dietary option.
Check out Wicked Kitchen's lions mane steak recipe. It's incredible!
I like meat!! No excuses. The ONLY superfood.
Great vid. Willful ignorance is not an attractive trait. Killing for pleasure even less so. All of my friends are vegan.
