    I love the innovation! Your idea on making the counterbalancing weights is incredibly helpful. I'm using my Inspire 1 and zenmuse x5 for research currently, and having the ability to raise the magnification i'm getting in photos will be incredibly helpful.

    Great stuff, is this a Inspire 1.0, we are thinking of adding the X5 to our 1.0 wondering how it flies , battery life? Read a few people suggesting not to do it.
    Thanks

    Hi Cory. I have just purchased a Lumix 45-175. Having tested it briefly on on the inspire I can report that this may be the one to go to. At 210g with internal zoom AND zoom controllable from the app. It has the same issues of focus as the 45-150. This could disappear when it is set up properly. Are you still casting the 45-150 counter weights? Would I be able to have a set please? I will post a vid when I get this set up properly. I have a 35-100 set up and running. Goes like a charm. Thank you for posting your videos. They have suggested a number of alternatives. Garry

    Since I've update de firmware, the gimbal is floating. Do U have this mistake too?

  • @tetraskele9621
    @tetraskele9621 7 лет назад

    Hi Cory. I appreciate your taking the time to document your experiment. Like others I'd love a set of weights for my X5. I'd though I was limited to the 14-42mm until I saw this. Are you still making these for Lumix 45-150mm lens/DJI X5 owners?How can I get a set? As others have offered, I can send you some $ via PayPal if you're still interested in doing this?
    Also, I bought a new Inspire 2, and the gimbal is naturally newer and different ... much easier to balance on the back end because its an open area all-round perfect for s simple shallow hemisphere. So I am going to follow your lead (with lead : ) and make a hemisphere for the X5 on the I2. Do you own the Inspire 2, yet?
    Also, I saw that someone took issue with your using a heavier lens. Did he convinced you'd damage the gimbal with the heavier lenses - is there any evidence for this is just someone's (untested) opinion?

    Hi Cory, well done. I might have missed it in the previous clip of the 35-100...but does the auto-focus detect the lens and if so, how effective/efficient is it. Secondly, could you post some flight time with these lens in action? Finally, is this lens combo adaptable to the osmo handle? Many Thanks, Geoff

    • @coryjeacocke
      @coryjeacocke  7 лет назад

      Hi Geoff.
      The 35-100 auto focus works fine. No problems there. It is very responsive, and accurate. Just as you are used to on any other "deemed compatible" lens.
      However the auto focus on the 45-150mm does not appear to work at this stage. It tries. And even moves the focus (some info getting through) but then it gives up, and pops up the error message saying it cannot detect the lens.
      As for OSMO, yes. This combo is for the X5. As the X5 simple mounts directly onto the osmo just the same as it would the inspire, it works just the same - although, at 750grams, plus the osmo, your arm might get tired!!

    Cool video! I saw the post in the Inspire FB group, though I guess Lynh Phan shot down the ides as it may wear down the motors. Anyway, I'm wondering if you may have a more simple balance solution. I'm trying to use the sun shade for the Olympus 12mm lens, but it's 26 grams. I put Velcro on the back of the camera, and tried to get 4 quarters on therefor balance, but it inhibits the gimbal movement. I have a 22g shade on order, but I think I'll run into the same problem. I really want a sun shade on that 12mm. Any suggestions, short of smelting lead LOL? Thanks

    • @coryjeacocke
      @coryjeacocke  7 лет назад +2

      Hey mate. Thanks.
      Yes, Lynh did shoot the idea down.
      First I will add that I have been keeping a very close eye on the gimbal motors, and they are not under any strain.
      I have run experiments before where I intentionally overload the gimbal motors, and they get hot in these experiments.
      The 45-150mm lens and counterweights (when balanced) do not overload the gimbal. It is totally fine - I'm not naive to the idea, I am an electrician by trade, and have a solid engineering background.
      Okay, on to your problem. Yes, the issue is that quarters simply don't weigh enough!
      Lead works perfectly. Don't be turned off the idea, it's very very simple to work with.
      It melts at a low temperature.
      Simply make a mold but using the base of a soda can. Pop in on your stove top (or preferably outdoor barbecue) and drop lead sinkers of the correct total weight into the tin mold.
      Allow it to fully melt, then turn the heat off. It will cool very quickly. It's very easy to do. Trust me! :)

    Can someone advise of the actual exact Manufacturer Part Number? Some lenses for purchase show an "HD" on the ring and some don't. I want to be sure I buy the right one. Also, anybody have an idea about gimbal motor loading & wear over the Long term?, Alex

    I have a 40-175 power zoom, that is about the same size. it weights 10 grams more, 210 grams, and has a longer moment arm fully extended. Wondering if that would fit. Do you fly your's fully extended? Or do you change it in and out, and if so, how does the gimbal handle that.

    • @queenslandaerial5263
      @queenslandaerial5263 7 лет назад

      Conrad Senior yeah mate. It does fit. And works. AF still doesn't work on the X5, but works (albeit flakey) on the X5S

  • @dumpatrumprapist9302
    @dumpatrumprapist9302 5 лет назад

    My opinion in the longer run (gimbal over loan) will appear in the screen app. In order for this to work.the the gimbal needs to be a slight bigger to handle that type of lens..

    have you tried bringing the shaky footage into After Effects or Premiere and applying a Warp Stabilizer at around 1-10% (not a high value)? This should remove all the bumps and not produce too much cropping. If you shoot in a high shutter speed then there wont be any motion blur artifacts when the camera shakes. After stabilization using After Effects you can re-apply motion blur using "Pixel Motion Blur" effect or "Force Motion Blur" effect if you want that 'cinematic' look.

    Hey Corey
    Great vid. Thanks.
    Couple of things.
    Search google for 3m dual lock thin. That's what I use.
    Also need to cover up that plastic part you removed. You could print a thinner cover part to fit in there.
    Do you have the aerial video at 150mm?

    • @coryjeacocke
      @coryjeacocke  7 лет назад

      Hey mate, thanks.
      I hadn't heard of dual-lock thin, I'll look it up. Cheers. This other 3M product works perfectly for this application though.
      As for that cover I removed, I entertained the idea of printing one, but it's a real struggle for room. it would not be easy. Although probably possible.
      The cavity behind the cover is already open-to-atmosphere even with the cover attached. It was never IP sealed in the first place, there's a big slit in the front, so I'm not too worried about it.
      I'll get some footage up sometime. Just been busy.
      I use this lens a lot, but my inspection work can't be shared, unfortunately.
      I have made about 5 of these counterweights. Sign out if you want one, I can post to you.
      Cheers,
      Cory.

      Hi Chuck. Lumix G Vario PZ 45 - 175 Power O.I.S/S.O.I Puissant Power Zoom/Zoom Puissant. Was the description on the box. Panasonic H-PS45175. H-PS45175E-K I think is the model number. Mine cost some NZ$500.00. Good luck with yours I hope it works for you. I am rather impressed with the zoom. The autofocus does not work properly yet but that may change when the lens is calibrated. Still haven't got it set up properly yet. Very untidy counter weights. No where near as neat as Cory's

    U would have to send me the lens parts that need attachment and the plate that you removed from the x5. I dont need any other stuff. Once you are happy with it we can go into a joint venture where u can control the sales for future clients. Let's call it CIS custom issues solved . Cheers

    Hi Cory, I well understand and see is a very simple task. I worked for many years with machine tools, lathes, milling machines, etc., electronic and electrical assembly, but now, in the place where I live, and with continuous commitments, all the smallest things to do becomes for me an obstacle. I ask, could you make for me a couple of these weights for the 45-150 and a couple for the 35-100, with the same velcro you used, and then send it to me in Italy? I can pay with Paypal.

    • @coryjeacocke

      Absolutely I can. That is what I have offered in the video. Now that I have the perfect shape, I can simply cast a copy in plaster.
      I will do this through the week, and let you know when I'm done.
      In the meantime, purchase your lens, and we will get it working together.

      Ok, but now I have just bought the pancake Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm instead the similar Olympus that I have seen in a video, I hope it have no problem and it does not need to add balancing weight. Seem that Panasonic is optically a little better, looking at photozone.de test.

      I already own an Olympus 40-150 mm 1:4-5.6, maybe your balancers are fine as with the Panasonic version.

    • @coryjeacocke
      @coryjeacocke  7 лет назад

      +Claudio Costerni the 14-42 should work fine. I do not own it, but I think it works right out of the box. It will not require any difficult balancing. It should just work.
      I'm very interested in the Olympus 40-150mm. Can you please measure the diameter of your lens (down near the mounting flange) and the fully extended length, also.
      I've read this lens is 180grams. Can you weigh it and confirm?
      We can work together to get this one going.
