  • Check what the expert at Hook, Line, and Paddle says about how to pick a kayak paddle size. Knowing how to choose a kayak paddle is critical to fitting the kayak paddle to your fishing kayak. You must consider the kayak paddle length, the types of kayak paddle blades to match your kayak paddle stroke and a host of other considerations. My thanks to Chris at Hook, Line, and Paddle in Wilmington, NC for helping make this video.

Thanks Steve and Chris! Further on the topic, the various Bending Branches "Angler" series are offered in fixed length or "Plus" meaning adjustable length. Because I will be getting a dual height seat and I paddle among jagged rocky shores, I bought the $$ Angler Ace Plus 240-255cm (there's also the $ Angler Classic Plus and the $$$ Angler Pro Plus).

Thank you for this information. I have a sit inside fishing kayak. Would that fit the “low seat” parameters you mention?

Yes it does. A high seat is usually 3 - 4 inches off the deck.

Watched this last year & always un screw my 2 piece fibreglass paddle & clean it after use . Thanks to this video . Propelz from Viking kayaks . After paddling for 2 hours I couldn't get it apart , washed it in fresh water . Would not come apart . Sprayed with WD40 . After much sweat & curse it came apart . Is there a lubricant suitable to prevent it binding in the future ?

Great video! Started with a pedal and now I am all about the paddle. When shopping for boats, it is always wise to set aside budget money for a good paddle. Most demo days demo paddles and pfds as well as boats. Thanks!

Excellent video. I would like to ask for help in determining the length of a kayak paddle. The kayak is 90 cm wide Aquamarine steam, my height is 185. Thanks in advance.

Looking at the REI chart (tinyurl.com/REI-PickAPaddle), your paddle should be 250 cm.

Walmart aluminum paddles 20 bucks. Going on 10 years strong. The longest paddle u can find so it fits anyone who wants to come paddling with you, also serves as canoe paddle bc of the reach

Yep. Another mistake is spending on an expensive paddle when you have a pedal kayak.

My question is for a tandem 13.5 foot, 95+ lbs, 36” wide kayak, which is a good back up paddle for a pedal drive system.

Some anglers use crazy long paddles. Does a longer paddle mean you'll catch a longer fish? That is a great store. I hope they are doing OK.

Wider boat, wider paddle! I spoke with Chris the other day and they are doing OK. He is going to apply for the Paycheck Protection Plan to help his employees.

If I’m 6’2 with a kayak that’s 38inches wide and a seat height of 12 inches would a 250-260cm adjustable be long enough?

Total beginner here, sounds like I should buy a 240cm.and that size paddle sounds like it is more universal for differentsize kayas?.I'm 5 ft 6 in.all these videos seem to go to the preferred 240cm.hmmmm

@@KayakhacksFishing thanks ended up ordering the pelican symbiosa with fiberglass shaft, reinforced nylon blades 2.04 pounds around $100.so seems like big upgrade from aluminum but not a high price.it adjusts from 230cm to 240cm.and i needed something for different people and different water crafts.no one seems to brag about those aluminum shafts.lol

Wish high low was more clear. Make the rest of the video mute, I guessing low is more parallel with the water with the paddle shallow in the water?
