I stumbled across this video and clicked immediately when I saw Kidman and Streep on the same screen and they did not disappoint. Two of the greatest leading ladies in business today (Hedy Lamarr is still the GOAT)
I didn't think so. I felt like I was watching all the characters of Big Little Lies and then Meryl Streep who had come in for season 2, put on fake teeth, a wig and tried to be as annoying as she could be without any real depth or character development.
@@bringiton5282 Sounds like you have a problem with Meryl Streep. She's never taken on any role where she's just put on a costume and tried to be as annoying as she could. And she's never performed any role or developed any character without any real depth. Her career, her many roles, and her many awards, accolades, and the wholesale respect of her peers say you are incorrect.
@@patricelockertanthony7630 I had a problem with Mary Louise, she had no depth whatsoever to her, she was only annoying and felt very gimmicky. The fact is you can be great and still put on a bad performance and I think it's partly down on the writing. You sound like one of those zealous fans who say Meryl can't do no wrong. I don't care about awards and accolades, I have my own feelings, I make my own opinion. Big Little Lies's Mary Louise is not Meryl Streep's Mary Louise. One is a character, the other a person. I loved season 1, I didn't like season 2 because of Meryl's Mary Louise. She felt more like a plot device than an actual character. Even her backstory fell flat to me and with that one, it had to do with the acting.
I worked on this set many moons ago. I built finish detail elements of the judges bench and the witness stand so it was a real treat to watch such phenomenal performances on something I made😊
@@SmcdMcd-d2k thank you. The designers went up to a courthouse in Monterey to match an exterior to the entrance hallway we built outside the courtroom, but I believe everything inside the courtroom was created out of whole cloth. It was fascinating to hang around while those two shot their scenes. There were dozens of people that no one had ever seen before who just wanted to be watching them do take after take. ❤
No. Celeste killed this. Perfection. A brilliant attorney and an extraordinary woman. She had this planned down to the tiniest detail. And she knew exactly how it would go down.
Any production that has Meryl Streep in the credits is automatically elevated just by her presence. She had guest appearances on 'Only Murders in the Building' and upon arrival she gifted it a certain gravitas. Whenever she's on the screen, there's nothing else I can do but stop and stare. Her talent is awe-inspiring.
Anyone who knows me knows that I've idolised Meryl Streep for decades. And in this series she was again so incredibly brilliant. I hated her and that just goes to show how terrific her acting is. ❤️🔥
OMG, as the mother-in-law, she was the absolute worst. And yet Meryl Streep somehow managed to make the character both loathsome and yet almost sympathetic. At least, Streep didn't just play a one-dimensional villain who was introduced to wreak havoc in the second season. She was also a woman, a mother struggling with her own inner demons. The only difference between her daughter-in-law and herself was that Celeste was more self-destructive, whereas Mary Louse was more externally problematic.
Can i share a controversial opinion that the first season was way more thrilling than the second one? The whodunnit and the dangerous situations and the soundtrack of the first season were so captivating. Just watching jane chapman or jane and celeste and madeline run is more beautiful than the second season? And that final episode. Heart in throat kind of experience.
I been a fan of Mrs Streep since The Deer Hunter. I followed her career in awe, believing I was the only one who knew this powerfull performer. I remember watching again and again Sophies Choice. The beautifull painfull close ups Nestor Almendros RIP made of her face. Sometimes I think I seen It all. But she's a genius. Nothing shorter than that. The moment she break on the stand got me off guard. So good, so perfect, so unexpected. And that's new. I didn't know Meryl could do that. And that's amazing. She's still growing. Like a three. Tall, strong, wise. I adore this woman. She's a miracle.
It’s unfortunate that the series was canceled, but the cast and crew agreed it wouldn’t be the same with the passing of the director and his vision for the show.
@@houstonej105 There might be another season, according to Nicole Kidman. But it hasn't been confirmed by anyone other than her. So I guess we will see.

AFI Lifetime Award made me rewatch this - among dozens of clips where Kidman excels - and I can't believe I JUST realised how this cross-examination is sort of a mirror, a feminine version of another forever famous courtroom scene... Here we have the GOAT Streep being drawn into the light by the seemingly weaker Kidman. A few years ago, then almost a newbie Cruise destroyed the male GOAT Nicholson in A Few Good Men... Perfect bookends.
You have to stop and observe Merryl Streep as she plays Mary Louise on a witness stand unable to manipulate the situation. The learned behavior of a kind old grandmother with the best of intent is crumbling as she is now faced with the truth behind her lies. She is incensed that her role as a mother is now in question. She cannot believe that she is now being forced to look at her own accountability or lack of it when dealing with the past. Her reaction to being forced to answer questions buried in her depraved past reveals the core hate within.
I think it’s a good move to not use your real name when you comment on lawyer films that don’t use the abused children of lawyers to play the lawyers in the films. Can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen get killed or at least get their teeth knocked out for stealing from the hand that feeds them.
I enjoyed season 2 better than season 1 and that is solely due to the presence of the unfathomable talent of Ms streep and no scene showed it off better than this one. I wish they hadn't cut it off.
