You are such a great plant mom! I love my hoyas, but my Hindu Rope is my very favorite! Mine bloomed this year, and it was "chocolate" for me. Great video! Subscribed!
I love the hoya hindu rope. 🥰 I have the all-green type. when I got it, it was this little chunk of leaves. unfortunately it did have mealy bugs.. 😒 but I was lucky enough to get rid of them. now it’s grown about 8 times the size of when I first got it. 🙂
I have a Hindu rope plant that I bought last year & love it. I did plant it in a bigger ceramic planter. I noticed the the leaves do get wrinkled but has been thriving. I am thinking to plant it in a smaller terracotta planter now.
Thanks for all the care tips! Perfect timing because I just got my first variegated hindu rope last week. I love the look of this plant even though it looks like intestines to me. I know weird, but I can’t help but see it. Hahaha!
@@julienicole92 Yes, it sits in a northeast facing window. I fertilize it monthly during growing season. Would love to put my hoyas outside but since we live at the Jersey shore, the fungus gnats (plentiful outside here) would have a field day and cause a massive infestation.
I also love the Hoya Hindu Rope and recently found a lovely variegated specimen at Lowes for $10.98. It proudly sits in my east window as well! Thanks for posting your tips!
My hoya compacta doesnt seem to like it when hung it in my east facing window; so i just have to keep them with my orchids (all away from windows. You're right about the vines though, I took cuttings of similar sizes, not only did they root at different speeds, but one has grown freakishly longer than the other 3, I think it's just the quirk of having multiple vines in one pot. One thing I've noticed is, variegated plants seem to struggle a lot more, as gorgeous as they are! But I certainly have more love for the solid green ones, as they don't freak out so easily.
I got one not long ago from a nursery. I examined their plants carefully and picked the fullest one they had. It had a milky film on the leaves that was an "uh oh" moment, but the price was so good, I decided to buy anyway. Well, I was right: the milky substance was a spray that had been used before shipment to try to hide the fact that it had mealies. It has been months of treatments and I finally went for the systemic (toxic) treatment because nothing was working. I am hopeful this will wipe them out once and for all. I went back to the nursery and they had not sold because others noticed the problem so they were pulled and placed in a quarantine area for treatment. All eight were dead! I had asked about them because I was curious. Sadly, the nursery staff didn't know what they were doing and had over-watered them by using the systemic too often. They do not survive chronically wet soil. Whole situation was pretty sad but they were sent that way, so not their fault. When they get mealies it can be a nightmare, but not un-fixable. I am not sorry I bought mine, but I am being patient in treating it. Fingers crossed that the systemic will work. .
Thanks for sharing! I've seen people who dislike the variegated hindu rope more, bc if the variegation is stressed it turns all pink and they say it looks like brains or intestines
Great care video I love the Hindu rope, I have both versions and I find they are pretty care free to care for. What do you think of orchid spray from miracle grow? I spray it on all of my hoyas they really enjoy it🥰🌱 Omg all of the pups are precious🐶, fingers crossed for Chloes checkup this week🥰🤞

Hi Julie! New subscriber! I have a question about leaving my Hoyas outdoors in summer. Is the temp change from evening to night time ok for them? I’m in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 never left indoor plants outdoors before. I guess I’m Concerned about bringing pests back in when it’s time to bring them in early fall
do you recommend any grow lights that would be gentle enough? i just moved into a new house and during the winter months there’s no sunlight coming in :(
I have had my Hoya for two years and it has not grown very much. I’m wondering if it’s because I have it inside under grow lights instead of outside in natural sunlight.
Hello, I really enjoyed your video and would love to know how to get my 5 yr or so Hindu Hoya Rope plant to bloom! I also was wondering if you can do a video on how to propagate from start to finish. I am so worried that I will kill my Hoya if I don’t cut it correctly. 😊
I love love the Hindu rope I just think it doesn’t love me. I don’t the Hoya can thrive in my home. My krimson princess isn’t thriving either. I’m going to change the location and see if that helps. Great video thank you for the extra the tips. Your dogs look so beautiful 😍
awww sorry to hear that! When you first bought your hoya did they appear healthy? Sometimes in the store they are in bad health and over-watered, and I think that's why some people have trouble growing them in their home
I love these plants. I have a really small one as that's all I could afford. It had 3 very short stems but one died in transport. I have it under a light and would love for you to publish a video on how to get it to bloom, which i figure will be in about 2 to 3 years. :)
I bought a large varigated hindu rope a few months ago, and have been on a real journey with it. When I bought it, it was freshly watered (still dripping), so I put it in isolation and determined not to water it for a good while. Unfortunately, I left it in someone else's care for a couple of weeks while I was away, and they thought it was a different plant and continued watering it. Not blaming them or anything, they are not plant people and I could have provided a better photo guide. I certainly appreciated their efforts to keep everything going. It was a little distressing, though. Had a lot of yellowing, liquefied leaves. Shortly after, I discovered mealybugs on it. Since the nursery's potting mix was retaining too much water, I ended up completely unpotting it, giving everything a neem-medicated soak (which was very effective), and salvaging what I could. It's about half the size, now, and I have a few propagations going as well.
Can you explain the "neem medicated soak", please? I have a string of this hoya I purchased last February. It is growing but painfully, :). I do not see any mealybugs but I am interested in your method just in case. Thanks.
@@misseskval2686 Hey, sorry I didn't see this earlier! I don't remember the exact proportions I used, but it was something like 2-3 tsp neem oil , 3 L water and 1 tsp unscented palmolive dish soap. I didn't really measure carefully - I was kind of out of ideas and thought the plant was a lost cause. I had unpotted the plant, so I just dunked everything into the bucket and left it submerged for maybe an hour, then repotted it in new soil with a lot of orchid bark. Right now I have a few healthy propagations, two healthy original strands, and two longer strands that aren't doing as well. I wouldn't necessarily recommend my method, especially not as a first response. I think I probably traumatized the plant/strands with the uprooting, but at least I haven't seen mealybugs since.
@@sylviaa8425,Thanks for your reply. Honestly, I had forgotten about it. I am happy to hear some of yours are doing well. That is a Yay! As for mine, she still alive but a very slow grower. She just developed a huge leave, lol. Maybe a good sign. She has been with me for a year now. No insect problems yet, cross my fingers. Good luck with yours.
I bought two cuttings during the summer off of Etsy. One cutting I don't think is going to make it. It is slowly turning brown from the end. The other cutting hasn't grown a single bit in about five months. I've moved it from window to window but it seems to just be sitting there, although at least it isn't dead yet! I really like the variegated one better, but I don't think I'll purchase a second one because it's the only plant I own that doesn't seem to make any progress at all, except for the ones that died. At least with death you see some sort of change; with that Hindu rope there's no change at all. It could be fake!
Hey Cheryl, if you have an outdoor space I would definitely recommend putting it outside during the summer. It will grow a lot out there in bright indirect light
I still did not get hoya hindu rope yet. The one I saw at nearby nursery and online store nearby me having the leaves quite flattened, perhaps due to being under bright light. But soon, i need to be sure why those leaves flattened ☺️
I am envious! I love this plant and it is my challenge plant. I have lost 3😞. I saved 1 rope - repotted in small pot and was growing beautifully for several months.... all of the sudden -leaves turn light green / squishy and drop off- spreads to rest of plant? No mealy bugs. I have no idea why? I have done exactly what you have done - I have 2 plants left, so far these look healthy- any ideas of what is attacking them?
Hello! It's hard to say without seeing it in person. I also lost some hoya hindu ropes and the same thing happened where the leaves dropped off. I just threw it away since it was not able to be saved
I burned my large Hoya compacta and I’m so sad about it I’m usually a succulent person but I got this and the variegated form as gifts, help what do I do, it literally turned white on some of the leaves I can’t tell how to remove some of the leaves
I love it. But I am struggling massively with mine. So bummed. I may have over loved it once. Then in response I think I under-watered it. And now it's just BLEH. Keeps getting wrinkly and soft then leaves fall off. I'm going to keep trying though.
I’m so sad! I just fried my big, beautiful variegated Hoya compacta 😭😭😭😭 I put it under a covered patio that only got eastern light and it did not do well 😩 the sun where I live is deadly.
I don't have a hindu rope but I find them very unique and beautiful, however the main reason for not getting one is because of all of the hiding places for pests 🙄 We'll see if I'll get one next year anyways! And also, I suck at fertilizing.. I'm a really really bad plant parent in that department 🙈
Hey Linda! If you have Espoma Organic fertilizers in Sweden (that's where you live right?) I would give it a try! If not, I'm sure there are other great fertilizers to try.
