Plant on!
Love the Hindu Rope. I actually found at Walmart the variegated Hindu rope. I think everyone heard me scream with excitement. Hehe. I just couldn’t believe I found the variegated one. It was also the last one on a 6” hanging pot for $9 dollars I couldn’t believe my eyes. I ran home with my baby to add it to my collection of plants. 🌱🌱
I also have other Hoyas and they do grow fast for me.
It's great that you found the plant you really wanted, Daisy! How is it doing?
Walmart I am very pleased to had found this very hard to find Variegated Hindu Rope compacta. She was the only one left, but in excellent condition. I will be going back to Walmart to look out for other gems (plants) for my collection. Thank you Walmart 💕
That is so awesome! I’ve found a few at Walmart too! Haha! I think others could hear my excitement as well! Wal-Mart, keep stocking the hoyas! We approve!
Daisy Salinas I found a huge one at the Home Depot this week for 14.99, I bought it and ran out of there like a bat out of hell
You are so lucky, I have been looking every where, I even called my florist shop to have them check.
I know I could buy one on line. I have not had good luck in my plants coming to me.
I love HoyasI All of them....only succulent I don't have trouble with! Ugh!
I love when you do plant profiles...I learn so much from you. I would suggest plant profiles on:
1) Lipstick plant
2)Begonias (any type)
3)Arrowhead plants
4)Purple Passion Vine
5)English Ivy
6)Oxalis (Shamrock plant)
7) Peperomia Parallel
8) Spider plant
9) Polka Dot plant
10) Peace Lily
Hi Kimberly! I am not good with Begonias (only outside) or polka dot plants, but I definitely will do the others. Thanks for your support as always you sweet lady!
You are such a great plant mom! Great information!
Stef, thank you for this most helpful video. I bought my Hindu rope 41 years ago at a household auction, and it's been flourishing every since. However, when we went to AZ for 2 months last winter, I took my plants to a friend's house and it's been languishing every since. The branches were 4-5 feet long, but with your assistance, I cut them off and started new plants. Thank you!
You explains things really good
I just scored one from my mum who has a huge mother plant. She did propogate hers in a jar of water in the window and it got great roots. I then bought another from a nursery to add to the pot for $10! Think I'll be back to mums very very soon lol! Love this plantxxxx ps I propogate nearly all my own succulents in jars of water and they all get nice roots ;)
That's awesome! It's funny how we all have our own ways of doing things that work for us and not always others. More than one way to skin a cat (what a horrible idiom).
Hoyas are so beautiful plants. And the flowers are stunning when they decide to flower. Very informative video Stef.
They sure are. Thanks so much Olga!😊
I have a Hoya rope plant in Canberra Australia. I have kept in in a shaded spot thinking the sun would burn it. It started off as a seeding maybe 4 inches. It now has ropes about 4 - 5 foot long. You suggest not pruning but they are so long I don't know where to place. I was thinking if I cut it back it might bush up more. 30 years ago we lived in a house where the hoya was under a shade but covered the whole side wall. That's where my love of Hoya grew with its stunning flowers
Wow! they sound amazing! I guess if they are that long, it wouldn't hurt. They take a long time to grow here .
Looooove hoyas! I have 13 in my collection as we speak! Lol i found an interest in them after a while being into cacti and succulents. Just like them, high to medium light, very low maintenance for some species of hoya, depending on living conditions. Flowers are interesting and smell delightful. Overall great hardy plant. Your plant is very lovely! Thanks for the video!
Thanks Raquel! I agree. So beautiful and so hardy!
Do you recommend to use cinamon as root inhancer for haya?
Lizan Ismail cinnamon is sometimes used to help with rot. Have to be very careful with it because it can also burn the roots.
I never propagate hoya before, so I will give it a go but I will not use cinnamon, but do you recommend when to propagate is best time of year? Thank you for reply, great video
Lizan Ismail I use rooting hormone when I do mine. Humidity helps a lot too! Everything grows better during the growing season (roots too), but it can be done any time of year.
Stef Hall thank you 🙏🏻
Love the info on the Hindu rope!! I would also love a live video plant swap!
Thank you! Plant swap details in the next few days! It’ll be do fun!
Will the stem you cut from still grow longer?
You literally answered all my questions I had about Hoyas . :) Thank You! I just purchased two different varieties last week and had been searching for how to care for them. Could you do a video on Begonias? Also, yes would love a live video plant swap.
Awesome! That is so good to hear!
Sadly and to be honest... the only advice I can give regarding Begonias is not to get one or to keep them outside. They don’t like me. ☹️
I love my Hindu ropes as well, but so far neither has been that fast growing for me. Love the idea of a plant swap, I've done a couple in a Facebook group that I'm in. It's pretty fun!
I’m excited about a plant swap! I’ll post a video about this next week! 🙌
Hi Stef,
I was so excited seeing this video. I don't have any hoyas yet but the Hindu Rope has been on my wish list from the beginning of my indoor gardening journey this year. Thanks so much for the tips. This will be very helpful. Also, what is the best Hoya variety for a beginner to start with?
Count me in!
I would love to do a plant swap with you and some other plant lovers.
Hi Crystal!
So far all the ones I have are easy. I’m not even kidding! Crazy that such a beautiful and exotic plant is so darn easy right? But it/they are! Hopefully mine will flower!
I’ll post a video about the plant swap really soon! I’m excited! Maybe you will get your first Hoya that way!
I love that burrows tail you have in the back! My new one is not doing well- half the leaves came off! But it has been very easy to propagate! Anyway, my Hindu rope has a lot of yellowish dried parts to it toward the end of the “rope”- it’s growing well though. What am I doing wrong? I do NOT have a drainage hole in the pot- is that why? I am pretty good about NOT overwatering.😀
Could be the lack of drainage hole. So they like a lot of bright light and not direct. Maybe a terracotta pot would help. Is it in pretty airy soil?
Your Hoya is pretty. Thanks for the info. Sounds good about the plant swap.
Thanks Kathy! Details on the plant swap coming in the next few days!
Thanks for the info!! My daughter just broke a long piece off my rope plant by accident and I was wondering how to propagate it
So did you immediately put the cutting into soil and did you use a rooting hormone or anything?
I put it right into the soil, but it would probably be better to dip in rooting hormone first.
Good advice for the Hoya! Thankyou🤩🤩🤩🤩
Your plant is beautiful. I bought a baby. Needed this video.
Thanks Shawtonya!
Hi ... I have never owned a Hoya! Which variety would you recommend for beginners? Thanks and another useful video.
Thanks Alan! They have all been easy so far. I’m not even kidding! A Hoya Carnosa would be s good place to start. I’d specifically recommend the ‘tricolor’ because it is just too dang beautiful.
How often do you water a clipping that’s in soil? Should it stay moist while it’s rooting?
I water them the same amount as I water my plants that are fully rooted.
@@StefHall thank y
Hi Stef, I just was given a Hoya carnosa that it was been rooted in a piece of florist foam and stick in a glass vase. I wonder if it will be a good thing if I try to get rid of the foam a plant it in a pot with soil. Thanks for your help.
Interesting. I would take it out if it were mine. Foam doesn't seem like it would allow the roots to grow. Use a very airy mix, with some soil, perlite, orchid bark, sphagnum moss.
Ooh. I love the idea of a plant swap
Yay! I’ll post a video in the next couple of days. I’m excited!
What do you feed them with?
I fertilize weekly in the summer with about 1/4-1/2 the recommended strength. I use Miracle Gro. The link is in the description.
Can you do a plant profile on monstera adansonii?
Yes! Are you having trouble with one? Anything specific?
Hi i have a rope Hoya i"m in newfoundland how long do it take for it to flower?
It can take a long time! I think 3 or 4 years and that's if it is in the correct conditions.
💚 Thanks so much for this video! I recently got a VERY small green Hoya Compacta & really needed some advice! I'm NOT enjoying starting with such small starts/rooted cuttings. I really enjoy seeing my plants grow and put on new growth; but, starting with such small plants AND them being such slow growers, too, makes me wish that I had just waited until I could afford/find a bigger one! Am I being greedy to feel this way or what? Small 4" pots of pothos, philodendron's, etc. is fine with me; but, one little 4" sprig of Hindu rope isn't very satisfying to me. Maybe I'll find a larger one this coming Spring or Summer and can buy it! Oh well! Sorry for rambling! Thanks again, Stef! Plant on girlfriend! 🌱💜
I feel ya Margie. These small pots of Hoya are exercising my patience. My patience needs exercised though, so it's all good. I think when I do get them grown up, I will feel quite proud of them and myself.
If you cut a stem from the original plant to propagate it, will that stem on the mother plant ever grow again? Thank you!
This is by far the video that has the information i needed to propagate my hindu rope. Although, I hoped a better mic was used for this video.
Since this video, I invested in a mic. Glad it helped!
I finally found some. I got two little Hindu ropes. Can’t wait for mine to grow large and have nice trails like urs. Plant swap seems fun. Let me know if you do it. 😁
Yes! We are going to do it! I’ll post a video next week. I’m excited!
Hi i love hoya's i live in Newfoundland do you know where i can get them here?
I wish I did. I haven't been to Newfoundland, but I think some of the plant shops sell to other countries, so I would start looking online.
Do the blooms have a strong fragrance smell?
Nope. I didn't notice any scent on mine.
I found a site where you make cuttings from the Hoya and place the cutting into damp long sphagnum Moss. I have a cutting that I bought from Lowes in a glass container, waiting for it to root. I found one site that said to use cactus soil, Pertalite and orchid mix. I notice most sites say to use the last two. I wonder if I made a mistake in using the cactus soil. I replanted them a month ago. What should I do?
I've heard the new consensous is that hoyas do best when they are rooted in water.
I 'm all in girl!" Let's get our plant on"! Hahah!
Let’s do it! Video with details coming soon!
okay, great I was wondering how it would work- so thanks, can't wait!
Great informations, thank you
Hi, thank you so much for all the information, i have a question, when you water, do you do it brom the bottom!? Or from top!? Are we allowed to wet the leaves!? Or it's not such good idea, i am so afraid to loose my plant... please help.
I water all my plants from the top. I use a skinny mouth watering pot so I don't get much on the leaves, but it won't hurt them. I spritz mine quite often. They like the humidity!
@@StefHall thank you kindly for your reply!! I enjoy your videos!
What kind of soil did you use
My hindu rope is in regular potting soil with lots of perlite. I've since upped my game on my newer hoyas.
Sadly, I couldn't hear the video...
When you cut the vine I’m curious what happens to the vine still left on the plant. Is that vine now stopped from growing any further. Or is it like pinching in which case the vine now throws out two vines right above that cut.
It just grows again. None of mine have branched off.
Oh ok I was just giving option based on what other plants do. I didn’t want to make the mistake of finding out after that every one I cut I had possibly stopped that one from growing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤️
It 's look like kinkle 8 or I don't see the difference between compact and kinkle 8
I think the Kringle 8 is different. Just by the pics I looked up. I love the looks of it and want on e of those now too! 😅
Wonderful demonstration. I just bought a rope plant and it's seems to be growing slow... Is that normal. Please advise. Keep up the good work ❣️
Yes, they are fairly slow growers. Especially the variegated one.
I would totally love to swap cuttings with you! I don't know how to make a live video, or any video for that matter, BUT! you can film yourself unboxing it 😅 I'd send it priority, so a small box would only be like $10(?). I'm always posting new plant finds on Instagram 😊
I’m going to post a video about the plant swap in a few days! It’ll be easy and you won’t have to do a live video! I’m so excited. Have you done your other plant swap yet?
Yay! I have not. It's on the 29th 😄 I am tempted to make a video, but I hate cameras & the sound of my voice 😅 I also ordered another hoya on secret garden rare plants 😅😅 hopefully if it's sizable, I can send you a chunk off of it too 👍🏼
A plant swap would be great! I have been looking for a watermelon peperomia.
We will be having another one soon!
I want one of these so bad!
You do. They are easy and lovely!
Help mine is dying not sure what to do, hope you can help me
Diane Picard what is it doing?
The leaves are drying yellow and falling off I only have one branch that’s it’s doing ok so far
Diane Picard could need some fertilizer. 10-10-10. Or it could have pests. Do you see any bugs on it?
No I don’t see any bugs but I was thinking of cutting and repotting
It all happened when I reported it in a terra clay pot
Yes plant swap!
Yay! I’ll post a video next week!
I know I'm super late but a plant swap would be nice. We don't have anythg like that here in Va. Not that I know of anyway...#PlantOn
Hey Dionne! We do them in the spring, so its getting close!
Hindu rope update please
My newest video has this plant in it.
I've heard they get bugs real easy
Yea plant swap
Be careful putting outside. Dunno if your area has mealybugs, but if you do, please watch for them, they are terrible if they find a tibetan rope hoya. Lost a favorite of mine due to them.
