I was soo surprised to find this type of plant at the Home Depot! I almost didn't buy them!! Can you imagine how unfortunate that would have been?! haha
My Home Depot always has a great variety. People tend to go through them and they aren't real careful. I always find cuttings and ask if I can have them.
My Hindu rope was in big trouble a month ago. It had been in the same pot for 8 years. I had been top dressing it with new soil. The branches were up to 3- 4 feet long. Suddenly it started getting pale and the curley leaves were wrinkling and puckering. I wasn't over watering it. No bugs either. I was getting very worried it was dying. So I texted Julie. She suggested it might just need repotting. I was afraid to do it, but I bought new soil and thought that I'd better just get it done or lose my beautiful Hoya I had raised from a tiny little cutting 10 years ago. Well, I was shocked at the small root system for such a huge plant. I cleaned out the big clay pot, put in round glass beads in the bottom to help with drainage, filled in the soil and tucked it back in gently ( luckily not breaking any branches) and prayed that it would perk back up. Well, it's been a month and my sweet Hindu Hoya has shiney and smoothe leaves and seems content again!! It sits on a table in a west facing window as it always has. So mine seems to do well in bright afternoon sun. It has never bloomed, yet. I'm still hopeful. So, thanks Julie for helping me get the courage to repot such a huge plant on my own. Love your videoes!!! 😊😊
Enjoyed the video. I recently went to my Home Depot and they didn’t have a Hindu rope so I went to Lowe’s and I found it!! So this video came just in time. Thank you!
Wow they look amazing combined into one pot! Also, didn't know the vines were separate like that. Great job can't believe that quality plant at such a bargain!
It's been a month and my plant still hasn't bounced back. All the small pieces died and a few long ones might not make it. I only let it dry out for a day, but I regret following that tip. Next time I'll follow my own intuition and put the thing directly into the new pot and soil.
Beautiful plant hope i can find one in my budget someday. I keep watching the clearance section each year. Also small pots see if i can find a small one i might accord
Such beautiful plants. I watched a video a while back where the comments were full of people saying that this particular plant doesn't like it's roots manipulated very much during repotting. I'd be interested in an update to see how your plant does.
I LOVE hoyas. My favorite. I love tbe carnosa compacta and other varieties. They are the most magnificent plants! Thanks for this wonderful video! (Home Depot?!?! Mine has a bunch of neglected plants! I buy at nurseries!)
They're SO gorgeous, Julie! I went to my Home Depot and they of course had the worst selection of plants. Maybe closer to Spring they'll get some in, fingers crossed!
Julie Nicole! When you tell your followers/subscribers that you'll make a video about something, you really mean it! I'm sooo glad you're like that! I was maniacally writing notes while watching you do the repotting. The finished pots look absolutely great! While inspecting the vines, did you notice any peduncles? Also, I didn't hear you say what size pot you used to put the ropes into. Would you let me/us know, please? I have 3 or 4 of the darker basalt pots like the one you used. I like the look of those kind mixed in with the regular terracotta. Since both my daughter & her boyfriend are in "Concealed Carry Permit" classes after work for the next few days, I'm going to try my best to get either Lyft or UBER to take me to two nearby Home Depots and possibly a Lowe's either tomorrow or the next day. My fingers are crossed that I'll be lucky enough to find one, or two of those amazing Hoya Hindu Rope plants! My heart will be broken if I can't find at least one. Thanks so much for sharing with us how you repot these amazing plants! I LOVE your style. I'm looking forward to your video on installing hooks for your new hoyas in your ceilings! Take care. You are appreciated! 🌾💜
@@julienicole92, my daughter took me to two Home Depot stores yesterday, Friday. Each one had 1 green Hindu Rope & 0 variegated ones. We were told that late March would be the best time to find them! It's amazing that your HD, that far north of Charlotte, has them & my stores, this far south, don't! I'll have to try calling Home Depot, from time to time, to see if they've received them. Thanks again for the info and for sharing your gorgeous Hindu Ropes with us! 🌾💜
Thank you Julie. I will definitely refer to this when mine needs re-potted. Mine is small and only has three pieces. I keep hoping it will shoot up another. Does that ever happen? Or do the individual pieces just keep getting longer with no new shoots occurring? It seems quite healthy.
Great buy. I just bought one in a 4-inch pot a week or so ago. I like terra cotta but where are you finding that grey/clay color? I can only find the orange ones.
I've seen the gray clay pots at Ace Hardware as well as at independent garden centers. If your local stores don't have them, make sure you talk to them. Some places will make the effort to special order what you are looking for.
It is possible to paint the terra-cotta pots. I like to use Rustoleum's Chalk spray paint but I'm sure the brush on kind would also work. For plants that need drier conditions, I do not seal the painted pot. If the plant will be bottom-watered or requires frequent watering, I make sure to seal the pot with several coats of an acrylic based spray sealer to keep the pot looking nice.
My local HD has these as well as the more sought after variegated variety often. I have never repotted mine as they are slow growers. Mine are hung in a east and south window - one (southie) blooms every year several times, while the east facing one never blooms. For some odd reason, I’m fighting a mealy bug issue on the east rope plant - makes zero sense as I’ve had it for years and no plants are close to it. So weird 🌱
when you leave the roots to dry is it better to do it inside out outside? I live in Florida so it's very humid outside, idk if its a good thing or a bad thing
Hi I just reported mine and leaves are so wrinkled. Any idea on why it’s happening. I watched your earlier video and saw you experienced the same problem. How did that plant turn out?
Hi Julie, I love your videos! I am searching for my very favorite hoya, the Australis Lisa, and I see you propagated some. Do you have any rooted plants you are willing to sell? Please let me know.
Thank you for this reporting video!! I was so nervous watching you break away the roots and get rid of the “old” soil!! I’m always scared of that part!!!
Great video! Question: in this video there are multiple vines placed in one pot to make a full plant but I'm wondering what happens if you plant a single vine? Will it create pups and become full eventually or will a single little vine just grow longer? Thanks!
Only a little. Most of the pieces of hoya still had a decent amount of soil attached to the roots. I did add a little soil between plants if I noticed any spaces, but not much. I wish I got that on video now!

I got some cuttings of one of these plants and I tried to propagate them by means of soil propagation and air layering and they all rotted. Any ideas about vegetative propagation?
So many of the pieces of hoya still had dirt on the roots, so I didn't think to add additional dirt when I filmed. However, after the fact, I did add more soil if I noticed any bare areas. I wish I got that on film but it was too late once I uploaded it.
😆😆😆Adam you sound so salty but I totally understand. I havent been able to find it either. I just received a small rooted cutting from a friend. I hope you are able to find it soon.
Wow! Everyone else’s Home Depot is better than mine. Those are pretty dang amazing. Congratulations!

This is what I needed to see. I often wondered how many individual pieces are in these full looking plants. Loved it
I'm glad it was helpful!
Love how you combined them all to make them fuller & so much prettier-fantastic idea! The Hindu Rope was the first Hoya I had seen & is my favorite!😍
It's such a cool plant right?!
Julie Nicole oh yes!

You got a variegated Hindu rope from Home Depot? Like where? ! So lucky!
So u don’t put extra soil on the roots once u put them in the pot?
Such a beautiful hoya, my plants just stop glowing since last years and finally she's shooting new leaves
thank you for the video. I "love" my Hindu rope too much, I will move it to a terracotta :)
Drives to local Home Depot tomorrow hoping for this luck.
such a good find...nice plants!

Thanks...mine isn't growing at all so I'm going to change the soil and see what happens. Yours are beautiful😍

Oh really?! I did this same thing before with my solid green rope and it was fine!
@@julienicole92 I am really glad to hear that because I have two Hoya Hind Rope plants that are flourishing, and I was really worried about repotting.
When you mix your own potting medium how much of each ingredient do you use?
