I found three different hoyas at a local greenhouse and I was instantly hooked, but it wasn’t until I received the obovata cutting in the mail that I was in total awe. I love the immense size and thickness of the leaves, so touchable! My hoyas grew like crazy all winter in PA in an eastern window. I fertilized with 1/4 strength every watering and they are in their original greenhouse pots. Around 10 o’clock I pull the sheer curtain over the window.
I've always had a Hoya Bella and it blooms all year except for 3 winter months... The amount of blooms is almost ridiculous and the smell is amazing...
Seriously let it DRY out mine do so well and I'm in a super dry cold climate and they love being basically dry to the Bone then hit up with some water and they will grow like crazy anyway that's my experience🤷♀️
Such a beautiful Hoya obovata!! Hoya australis is crazy. I have had a cutting of it with only two leaves and it stood like that for twelve years!! Then I moved it to a different window with more sun and after three months it was a big plant!! The first Hoya you showed is also called Hoya carnosa Krimson Queen. Lovely hoya Chelsea. You must really do something right if your compacta is fast growing! I don't know anyone who has ever said that about Hoya compacta!! Congratulations! I have 150 different varieties of Hoya and I kind of love them! There are so many great, beautiful hoyas and when you live near the worlds greatest collectors it is easy to get hold of rare hoyas and that is really dangerous!! 😂😁 I LOVE your videos!
I've got Hoya Obovata about 2-3 years ago, I guess by mistake, back than I wasn't into Hoyas. I had her in the corner in btw two windows, behind some other plants. I've probably watered her 3 times a year, well maybe 4. She is still alive, now she's got some friends and get watered every month :-)
You already have a kimson queen! It's the hoya tricolor, with the variegation on the outside! And that bilobata is actually a burtoniae! Lowe's and home Depot always label them wrong
I was confused about it for months as well until I finally asked a Hoya expert to tell me why some are called Tricolor some crimson queen some Rubra some crimson princess. I was starting to thinking there were so many varieties of carnosa I needed to search for 😂😂😂 maybe that’s the greenhouses goal to keep us buying but not knowing it’s the same plant lol
Hi Harli! Just discovered your channel and I'm a fan. I recently purchased a hoya compacta and knew nothing about it. Thanks so much for such an informative video. I think you saved a plant life!
Hi Harli! Just saw your video. Great tips and info! I was introduced to Hoya plants with a single cutting that my husband brought back a few years ago from a friend's house. I planted that cutting in a 4" pot and left it on the east facing window sill above our kitchen sink. Holy Moly! It as taken off! It is still in that same pot, but it is hanging from the ceiling in our den with indirect southern light. I water it once every two weeks with a weak feeding of fertilizer. It has bloomed beautiful blooms and it is growing on our wooden ceiling and stretching itself out everywhere! I love it! I would like to attach a photo but I don't think I can..I cannot find a way to attach a photo. Well, that is my Hoya story. If you want other varieties, ask your viewers for cuttings! Take care!
I love seeing your Hoya collection. I have a piece of Hoya compacta that was sent to me. I had no idea what it was until I sent a picture to Google. I went crazy yelling, "I have a Hoya"!!!!!! Since I transferred it to another window it's done so much better! Thank you for explaining how and when to water suggestions. I'd love to see how you've hung your plants. When you showed us either The last one or second to last, I noticed in the background, as you spinned the camera, you had like tube's all around. Almost as those Canopy Bed!!!! I'd love to see what you've done and how. Please, please, please!
I love your Hoya collection. I’ve only been a crazy plant person for about 1 1/2 years, so I feel very fortunate to have 7 Hoyas. My favourites are Kerrii Variegated (3 beautiful new leaves this spring) and Linearis that was very very tiny when I bought it (and paid way too much for), that is growing like crazy. My dream is to actually have a Hoya bloom, but that may not happen because all I have is bright north light. Love your videos and had such a laugh over the chat you did with Christian! 🇨🇦💕
Thank you ! I really enjoy all of your videos! And you asked if we enjoy looking at all of your plants because you enjoy showing them. Is that even a question?? Of course we do!!! 🥰💚🪴
@@lizzymier no. There are just so many names for one specific plants. Nurseries definitely use that to their advantage too! Tri Color can be a Krimson Princess, or Krimson Queen, because they have 3 colors. Green, cream, pink.
It’s so funny you made this video! I’ve just recently fallen in love with these waxy beauties. Just ordered a Hoya obovatum from the planthall super excited!!!
Holy Happy Hoya video !! Loved seeing you collection . I'm a Hoya convert, didn't care for them when I started my collection , but then... a beautiful Pubicalyx came into my life. Then a Crimson Queen , a Carnosa ,an Obovata and down the Hoya rabbit hole I have gone ! Lol ! Some of my easiest plants to care for. Loved your tip on getting them to bloom ! Thank you Harli !! You're glowing girl 😉🤗
I have a Hoya tricolor and I am delighted. Havent’ had her very long and so far so good. This is super helpful. Thank you! I look forward to the pest videos
I have a Hoya australis Lisa, i bought it as a baby plant with 3 leaves a year ago and it did absolutely nothing for about a year, then spring came back again this year and all of a sudden it started putting out 5 new leaves. I guess they take a lot of time to adjust to new conditions, but once they do they can really take off. I also have a krohiana Eskimo, which has super silvery leaves and the cutest frilly little flowers, which smell amazing. These really got me hooked and just 2 days ago I got myself a parasitica, a callistophilla a carnosa tricolor and a kerii albomarginata 🥰
At first I didn’t like hoyas like that but recently I’ve been obsessed with them. I literally just bought a hoya compacta this morning 😂 I need more now. Def. need the variegated Hoya compacta too
I want a gif of you thinking of hoyas flowing from trees and you're making that precious face and saying "that is a beautiful, beautiful thought." You're so cute!
I have two that say on the tags they are Hoya Carnosa Compacta but they don't have the curly leaves at all. They both look like your Hoya Crimson Princess. They are the Angel brand plants I keep seeing at Lows, Walmart and Home Depot. I got them at different times at Walmart. I am not sure what kind of Hoya they are but I just adore them! The first one I got I didn't even know what it was but it caught my eye and I had to touch it! And that was it, I knew it was going home with me! They are so pretty with their plump, waxy, variegated leaves! They both were thoroughly soaked when I got them. The first one I didn't water for about 2 months it was so wet. I was worried about root rot but so far its still super healthy! The second one I just got today. I expect to not have to water it for quite a while. I hope they do well! I think they are my favorite plant so far that I have. Thanks for your. videos they help me so much!
Hello Miss Harli G. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and just subscribed to your videos. I just have a request to help myself and maybe others when watching the videos. It would be great if you could type in the names of your plants. It’s hard enough trying to pronounce the Latin names of plants. If its not much of a issue referring to editing in the names of the plants; it would help if you could put the names and spelling in when you make your videos that would be awesome. Learning the names of plants is a goal and trying to learn the pronunciation and spelling isn’t an easy task. Thank you for all your efforts in making great videos. But putting the spelling and names in your videos would help us plant beginners a lot. Thank you so much and I’ve learned so much from your videos. Theresa✌️
Yes it's my opinion too.The first plant you showed i was trying to know the word from your video as I have this variety but couldn't understand from your speech.kindly tell me the name.
Linearis is very easy - just water a bit more than you would a carnosa and I’ve found I have no problems with lack of humidity. Mine even flowered this year. Great tips though, enjoying your videos.
My mother in law gave me acutting of her indian ropè 54 yrs ago. The mother plant that she had was at least 25 yrs old. I have about 15 now, of different varieties and a lot of cuttings thàt are doing well. I use orchard fertiliser with vit b in it and the flowers are growing prolific. Very happy with this fertiliser. Kind regards Cheryle from Western Australia
My newest obsession!!! Thank you so much for the tips 🤩 I recently picked up Hoya Kerii, pubicalyx & Carnosa tricolour.... I don’t think I’ll grab the crinkly one ever cause I love cleaning leaves LOL and idk how I’d wipe down the rope one.
Really enjoyed this video Harli. Hoyas are my new favorite. My current favorites within my collection are my Linearis, Mathilde, Retusa and Compacta (which I found at Lowe’s for $20!). I love watching Hoya videos and seeing other people’s collections as well as care tips.
Harli G The Mathidle is such a cute little Hoya. I ordered mine off of Logee’s through Amazon. I would highly recommend Logee’s. I think they are out of the Mathidle right now but they have a waitlist for it.
Hoya heaven! I'm just getting into them.. your compacta is beautiful! I want one of those 😍♥️ I love seeing your beautiful plants! Super fun! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm going for my hoya krimson queen tomorrow morning! Hope they still have them anyway... she will be my first actually hehe... then I may go for the princess and who knows from there but I like the Chelsea, pubicalyx, bella, serpens, and another one I cant think of the name atm. Uh oh.... lol!
thank you, this is a great video! I have a carnosa, and recently rooted cuttings from it, which I am gifting to friends. I love hoya Bella, but have not succeeded with it, due to spider mites.
Totally agree with you re: watering on a schedule. I see people saying “every seven days” or such all the time and it totally depends on light, soil, humidity, size of plant, type of planter, season, etc. I got a moisture meter and I use it, check with my finger, and learn what my plant feels like, looks like when they want water. Summer Rayne’s advice about being observant, along with your details here, are the best.
I love every hoya! 😍 yes, the bloom smells so good I thought mine kinda smells like chocolate ☺️ and you can smell it better at night. You got a lot of great collection and they are all growing beautifully. I hope you can get your wishlists soon. Thank you for sharing. 🌴🌱🌸🌼🌺💓😘
Thanks! I love hoyas too! I'm from Sydney, Australia and I just wanted to let you know that there are 7 different species or subspecies of hoya Australis. Some don't grow as fast. Some have furry leaves on the bottom or furry all over and there's different shaped leaves, but the flowers all look the same.
Thanks for this info. I was about to say Harli needs to pop it into more light. My Australis (here in Queensland, Australia) is in direct sun till about 12 on the eastern balcony. I may have a really quick growing one that likes the sun. I want all the Australis, now.
PSA - when bottom watering your hoya, make sure there is actually a hole in the bottom. Just sayin LOLOL I had no clue as to why the soil was constantly dry lol
If didn’t have holes you would either kill it by drying it out bottom watering, or drowning it watering it from the top. That would guarantee root rot. Especially in Hoyas.
You did a great job explaining the care of a Hoya; your video is quite helpful. I now live in a condo with less storage space than a house, therefore, I try to keep the minimum of soil(s), bark, etc. I have regular (brand-name) potting soil, vermiculite, plus orchid bark for my four orchids. I’ve been gifted a small (4” pot) Hoya and I’m wondering if I have the correct soil “ingredients” for when I repot it. Right now, it looks like it’s a slow grower. When I do repot it, would adding a bit of orchid bark to the potting soil be a good growing medium? The orchid bark is quite chunky so I’ll first break it down into smaller pieces with a hammer. Thanks in advance for any help. 🇨🇦
Loved your video. I've had hoyas about 15 to 20 years and farmed them out to friends and family while on vacation. Well lost most of them, so now collecting them again. There are so many interesting varieties of hoyas they become e addicting. I want them all but don't have the space. I currently have 25 different varieties and still collecting. I joined a fb group for hoya lovers and they have a purges and auctions constantly. Thinking about a hoya 12 step program, lol. I have vintage carnosas more thN 30 years, and start a from that. Crimson queen and princess, curtsii, bella, bella also marginata, and inter var, wayetti variegated, Robitaille, sunrise, lacunosa splash, and silver, Matilde super splash and regular, callistophylla, heuschkeliana variegated, illagorium ,forest ut-039, acuta variegated now verticillata. Sigillatis, I know there are more. Just loved seeing your hoya collection and hope to see more soon. Take care
I came across you by happy accident! You now have a new plant lover and new mommy friend! I'm so glad to have found you! 🖤🖤🖤 I feel like we would be good friends lol I know that's nuts hahaha but in all seriousness please never stop the videos!
Hi Hari I enjoyed your video muchly! I also grow a variety of hoyas including the Linearis. I am finding her very eaay to care for and she grows so quickly that i take cuttings from her nearly every 2 months! These cutting root easily in water and cinnamon, which I sell ww on ebay! Just sent one to canada and another to israel this week. It's an amazing "good feel" plant and brushing against her fronds is like long hair, she is so soft. I do get a little problem with mealies, which i sort with alcohol, but its not huge. I live in the south of France and at 450m our humidity is not great, in fact we have just finished a 4 month drought summer, during which time i pruned the hoya linearis maybe 4 times! Good luck in finding one, i was lucky to buy mine locally at about 15 euros for a very full plant. The hoya i have the most problem (leaf wise) with is the australis, i bought the "hooped" grown one and unwound it, then within a year the leaves yellowed, puckered, had pock marks and eventually fell. However it is after 18 months making a slow but sure recovery 😊. Happy gardening
Your Hoya's are beautiful & lush looking. I'm new to Hoya collecting.. I have about a dozen different varieties. I have duplicates of some, my favorites like pubicalyx, princess, obavata. I also have Bella plain green & variegated, both still small. Kerri variegated, multiflora, compacta, Lisa, curtsii, wayetti, Queen, Chelsea, & plain green Australis. Love them all. Hoya's are one of my favorite species of plants.
I just got a kerrii and was here looking for tips! They are expensive to get even a little one that is on the vine, but I hope it will do well in my west window area a few feet back. Let's pray she's like the obovata !! Yours looks amazing, that is on my wishlist
Hi Harlingen, I love your Hoya collection! I am new to Hoyas, so just trying to learn more from online videos. Love your videos :-) Which variety of Hoyas do you recommend for beginners like me? When do these plants bloom (Fall, Spring, etc)? How do you get them to bloom? I can’t believe you got all of them from Lowe’s. Need to keep a watch out in my local Lowe’s. Thanks!!
Such a beautiful collection! I have only Hoya linearis (with mealybugs😭), Hoya krimson queen, a cutting of carnosa and I've ordered a cutting of Hoya macrophylla. On my wishlist are Hoya polyneura, Hoya heuschkeliana variegata and Hoya chelsea. So hard to find anything in Europe though😒.
I have a Hoya carnosa "krimson princess" that's been so happy in my south facing window- its popping up cute new leaves! I just got some miracle grow orchid fertilizer spray per the recommendation of Becca de la Plants and Lessya's Leaves and it seems to be liking it. I also just got a hoya obovata and I'm so excited to watch it grow
The aphids are attracted to the sweet honey drippings from the blooms. It tastes like honey. Thank you for sharing your beautiful hoyas with us,they look amazing.
Harli your Hoya collection is awesome-all so gorgeous!😍Thanks so much for your care tips, especially the bottom watering. I’m always on the lookout for hoyas-want the variegated Hindu rope & publicalix.
Thanks so helpful! I just acquired a bunch of hoyas and your video really helped. I think I could water them a bit less and I've gotta pull my compacta back from my south window. Appreciate the tips!
Currently trying to convince my boyfriend that our Panther chameleon’s cage needs some Hoyas, hehhehe. I have (what he considers) “too many” plants throughout our room and reptile rack so this is a perfect excuse to get more plants.
Just stumbled across your comment and can't believe there is another Panther chameleon/hoya lover here! I finally just moved some of my Hoyas into my big male's cage and omg they started shooting out new growth right away! Their cages are like mini humid green houses so it's perfect! It is also my new excuse to my fiancé that I need to get more xD
I saw the mountains in one of your videos and thought it looked like you were near Eagle Mountain. I live in Florida the past couple of years, but raised my family in Utah and lived there for 30 yrs. My kids and grandkids are in Riverton. I'm so homesick 😔 Utah is beautiful. I hate the humidity here lol. Hoping to get my mom's condo sold so I can move back (moved here to take care of my mom. She recently passed away)
This is my first time watching a video of yours and im glad I did. ☺ thank you for the tips. Mine grow sorta but they don't thrive and I'm hoping some stuff I learned can help me get there.
@@PeanutsPlants it seems to, I've only propagated my hoya carnosa in water before but with my obovata and Linearis being more delicate i decided to give it a go. Really pleased with it so far. X
My dad has a HUGE Hoya compacta that he's had for almost 30 years - some of the vines are more than 6 feet long!
R. Krahulik 🤤
Oooooh!!!!! 💞💞💞💞💞
Oh wow! That's amazing!
Please post a picture on Reddit!
My Hoya start drying after 3 months to buying 🥺🤔
My mother has an hoya pubicalyx that is almost a 100 years old! It's amazing and I can only hope that my small baby hoya will grow to be that big!💖
violetkittens wow! That’s amazing
Oh my goodness! A hundred years old! Did her mother leave it to her? I can only hope to keep mine alive. I am still learning! But I just love them!!
Pic!!
I love when you focus on specific plants and there care!! Thank you this was helpful! 😄
I’m really happy to hear that! Thank you so much 🙏🏽❤️

Hated them for years and didn’t understand why people liked them, but just recently fell in love with them!
Josiah Candler what changed for you?!
LOVED this video. I have definitely become a “Hoya head” lately. I just love the thick juicy leaves they have!
Sophia Moryl me too! So cute!
You’ve quickly become my favorite RUclips channel to watch!
Yess I’ve been needing this!! My Hoya is one of my favorites but I haven’t seen much growth, hopefully this helps! 😊

I have a hoya bilobata ds-70 from lowe's. Looks very similar to the burtoniae too. I've seen the ds-70 be referred to as tsangii, so idk.
@@zSuitSamus Yeah, they're mislabled. It's a burtoniae.
I think I know where I will go tomorrow 😀 Hope they have some in my area
Great collection! My fave right now is my Polyneura. I got it as a cutting and it’s finally starting to grow new leaves. I’m such a proud mom 😂
I love Hoyas too. My daughters sent me a Kerrii for my birthday. Love it!
You mentioned a crimson queen is on your wishlist which made me wonder if you don’t realize your Tricolor is a crimson queen 👑
YouGrowGail i didn’t until literally the night after I filmed this video haha but this was already my 2nd time filming this exact video

Kerrii is the plant that started it all for me! My first full one will be here tomorrow! I have lots of the leafs, so now I can propogate my own
Thank You for this video. I just bought my first Hoya Queen. Haven't grown Hoyas in several years.
I have had my Hoya for about 8 years now and has only bloomed once. I do not know which Hoya I have but I absolutely love it.

I’m pretty sure the Tri color is the same plant as the krimson queen.
Debra Cancelliere it is my brain wasn’t working when I filmed hahaha
Harli G but the best part is that you don’t have to buy that hoya- you already have it!! Yippee! ❤️

Oh i had never heard that you could fold the leaves to tell how thirsty they are. Really great tip, thanks!🤠
Your Hoyas are beautiful!! I really like the Macrophylla Variegate, an the Chelsea. Who am I kidding lol I love them all!!
I'm so thankful I just saw this on bottom watering!
My newest obsession!!! Thank you so much for the tips 🤩 I recently picked up Hoya Kerii, pubicalyx & Carnosa tricolour.... I don’t think I’ll grab the crinkly one ever cause I love cleaning leaves LOL and idk how I’d wipe down the rope one.
this vid is the absolute best!!! soooo many good tips! thanks so much!
Really enjoyed this video Harli. Hoyas are my new favorite. My current favorites within my collection are my Linearis, Mathilde, Retusa and Compacta (which I found at Lowe’s for $20!). I love watching Hoya videos and seeing other people’s collections as well as care tips.
Heidie Walker ohhh! I want a Mathilda so badly as well! Hoya videos are ones I can never skip also haha
Ashley S I hope you’re able to find one for yourself! 🤞🏽🤞🏽 thank you so much for watching
I'm going for my hoya krimson queen tomorrow morning! Hope they still have them anyway... she will be my first actually hehe... then I may go for the princess and who knows from there but I like the Chelsea, pubicalyx, bella, serpens, and another one I cant think of the name atm. Uh oh.... lol!
Hope you got your plants. I have 4 and I love them
thank you, this is a great video!
Omg the timing is perfect!! I'm dying to buy some beautiful hoyas. I need them in my collection ASAP. This video is really helpful. Thank You!💕💕💕
artsforbreakfast definitely go for it! They are very fun ones to keep 😊❤️
@@HarliG 😁😁❤
Love your Hoya collection! Definitely made me add a few others to my Hoya wish list 😊
I love every hoya! 😍 yes, the bloom smells so good I thought mine kinda smells like chocolate ☺️ and you can smell it better at night. You got a lot of great collection and they are all growing beautifully. I hope you can get your wishlists soon. Thank you for sharing. 🌴🌱🌸🌼🌺💓😘
mommyandkidstv I love every Hoya too! 🙌🏽 ohhh which one smells like chocolate?!
Harli G It’s the hoya queen and rope kinda smells like chocolate and vanilla combine. I asked my children about it and they kinda agreed. 🥰
I just bought a new Hoya compacta and this video really helped thanks!
Beautiful collection and great tips! 🌿I LOVE Hoyas! ❤️
PSA - when bottom watering your hoya, make sure there is actually a hole in the bottom. Just sayin LOLOL I had no clue as to why the soil was constantly dry lol
i mean most people aren't idiots and would know this
🤣😂💚🌱
If didn’t have holes you would either kill it by drying it out bottom watering, or drowning it watering it from the top. That would guarantee root rot. Especially in Hoyas.
This is hilarious bahaha, I would totally make a mistake like that
You did a great job explaining the care of a Hoya; your video is quite helpful.
Thank you for this video for giving us the information on the Hoyas little quirks this video has been the most helpful to me thank you so much 😊
Hi Hari I enjoyed your video muchly!
Great info for me a beginner hoya lover, Thank U
Thanks!!
Love your Hoyas!! Thanks for all the info. 🪴🌿
Krinkle 8 has been at the top of my wishlist since I first heard about hoya ❤
I absolutely love Hoyas so much and wish I had access to more varieties around my area
Do i have any hoyas? No
Did i watch this video anyways? Heck yeah
Gotta be ready...
Can you do a video on some of your favorite online plant shopping websites? I love all of your videos ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful plants and thanks for the info!! Going to start a hoya collection.
Beautiful Hoya collection and great tips. Thanks for sharing.
Harli your Hoya collection is awesome-all so gorgeous!😍Thanks so much for your care tips, especially the bottom watering. I’m always on the lookout for hoyas-want the variegated Hindu rope & publicalix.
I got two Hoya Macrophylla plants a few days ago. I'm really in love with its big fat leaves.
I don't have any hoya yet, it's one of the next plants on my list though! Thank you for a great and informative video to help 👍❤
I’m currently loving my Hoya Rosita, beautiful cupped long leaves with shades of maroon and black mixed with olive green. And my lil krohniana black.❤
Bree Fenton yessss has he said yes?!
Harli G Thankfully yes! (: probably be picking some up this week for our little buddy. I’m so glad they’re reptile safe!
Your videos are thee best. Super informative.
That was very thorough! Thank you for sharing! 😁
I’ll be looking into getting a Hoya. Thanks for the tips! 👍🏼💕
Yes of cois 🤣loved this 💯just got my hoyas . Excited to see them flourish per your advice and thank you
I just saw a video suggesting you mist Hoyas with orchid food mist and it might put out new growth.
So far I only have a Hoya Krimson Princess and I love her! Next on my wish list is a Tricolor and Chelsea!
Best video ever Harli 😍 Love your energy and you're so beautiful girl!!!
I love your collection !!
This is my first time watching a video of yours and im glad I did. ☺ thank you for the tips. Mine grow sorta but they don't thrive and I'm hoping some stuff I learned can help me get there.
I Have loads of hoyas now, currently propagating some in Sphagnum moss. Love this video Harli. X
Christina Sayer Do you think sphagnum moss works better then soil?
@@PeanutsPlants it seems to, I've only propagated my hoya carnosa in water before but with my obovata and Linearis being more delicate i decided to give it a go. Really pleased with it so far. X
Christina Sayer good to know! I’ll probably give that a try next.
