U really make everything sound fun and ez I’m not a mechanic at all I have a 2002 Monte Carlo when I try putting gas in on empty the pump shuts off now when I stop and go the car jumps like it’s going to cut off sum time it does but it cranks right back up it also drives really good on interstate but bad in town
I contacted this guy and ordered one. It is well made and he wants to put out a good product. Am very happy with it. Nice price and fast ship once he gets it built. This is a great deal for my problem and future problems. If I took my truck to a dealer the price would be about the same for a one time fix. Now I can fix many problems with this machine. Thanks Scotty!
Yea, I couldn't help but laugh at an ad that was sent to me yesterday for a pro model smoke machine. it said "low priced" and when I looked at the small print, it said 1300 dollars. This guy's kit is great, even for a pro really. One can always add a flow gauge to it if they want to for about 40 bucks if you want the full capability of pinpointing problems.
Scotty Kilmer When placing the smoke machine on the brake booster do I have to plug close anything? For example the air intake? Throttle body etc etc. Doing this to my truck very soon.
Always wondered if anyone made a cheap "harbor freight" type smoke machine. I want one of these! Going to see if I can get one made for myself. Thanks for sharing this Scotty.
I know I could just make one of these, but I love entrepreneurs. I bought one of these from his email address and am looking forward to receiving it. For the time I would spend, the price is pretty good, anyway. What amazed me was how responsive and personal Brian was. Thank you, Scotty, for giving this entrepreneur a shout-out!
Scotty I made one of these using a large stainless water bottle, a car battery charger/ starter, a harbor freight cheap DC tire pump, and a diesel engine glow plug. If you look around on YT this same idea can be found under "Cold smoking and cold smoking generators" BBQ guys like to smoke their food and some of them have invented a cold smoking system for smoking cheese and other goodies. All those systems looks exactly like this.
The person who made this needs to be praised. You mentioned using a bicycle pump: I would take the schrader valve off of an inner tube or a rim and put it through the paint can, seal it nice and tight, then use the bicycle pump to force the air in. I would just use one of those 12v pumps that plug into a cigarette lighter. Mr. Kustom Smoke, I hope this idea gets implemented in your next product.
Thanks so much scotty! Just ordered one of these kustom smoke machines and what a nice guy Brian is! Highly recommend!!!! I've used your wealth of knowledge quite a few times now. So glad I found your channel
You’re the best on RUclips in my opinion. Love your channel and thank you for working hard at putting out great content. The people really appreciate it 😎I know i do
This is fantastic, I have tried an old Halloween fog machine but it didn't have enough pressure. I will defiantly try this method for future air leaks. Thank you Scotty.
Cool idea. I have used two setups for this.. The first one is a diesel glow plug that works kind of the same way in a paint can and injected using air compressor air. It works well, but the other one is a smoke machine that I bought at a garage sale for 30 bucks, complete with a bottle of liquid for the smoke. It's a little more compact and does't require an airline, but does require 110 AC power..
this looks great! I emailed about my jeep a little while ago. I used the cigar method which found a leak in the fitting from the valve cover to the intake manifold. I want to give this a try. I looked up and down numerous forums which name many culprits but all mention the intake/exhaust manifold gasket. Maybe this device will blow enough smoke and pressure to force a visible amount of smoke through the leaky gasket.... I can only hear the noise of a vacuum leak when the engine approaches operating temperature (middle section of the thermometer) and after I've had the throttle in a position of at least 20 seconds of movement under engine force. Makes testing tricky.
Walmart sells party fog/smoke machines for $30 around Halloween; they run on glycol, same principle as the paint can thing but might take some mods to operate on cars since the output pressure isn't regulated.
Good video, I have experienced all kinds of performance problems with vacuum leaks on different cars. would love to have an affordable smoke detector, thanks for sharing.
Scotty I have a 2010 nissan maxima that has a leaky sunroof I believe. I had to drain water out of my back driver side door. I also seen a puddle of water in my passenger side floor. Also the roof leaks in the car. My ac has a funny smell now when it's on so I dont run it . Thank you
wow i just noticed hes working on a 2valve triton engine. and the last spot EVER i would think thats causing my vaacuum leak would be where the MAF sensor plugs into?? ill have to check tomorrow to see if this is causing my problem.
hey scotty love the vids my auto transmission makes a ping type noise when going into reverse and it also takes more time than usual to go into gear when accelerating. and I just had it serviced.
so, if your checking the back muffler pipe, like in this video, how did you hook that baby up to your battery terminals? Did not see how long jumper cables were here, sorry.
Scotty! Awesome video again -but where would one hook up the machine if they are smelling gas in back drivers side? Es300 2001 -im getting the P0440 code and already changed the gas cap
Can’t mineral oil foul the MAF sensor along with other sensors that are not designed to be covered with atomized wet fog that a machine like this produces? I seriously love Scotty but I feel like this video was not well thought out. Furthermore, what about the EVAP system. Using shop air can introduce oxygen into the system and creat a condition for combustion. Could someone please tell me I am wrong???
I'd like to know why smoke machines cost so much when you can make one for a few bucks. I made one and didn't really cost me a thing just used items I already had although I might get some element wire and use it over the soldering iron I'm using now only because I would be able to use it on DC current without an inverter although I just use a power cord.
Great advice- thanks for all the videos - I'm a mechanicalengineer with a degree in Mechanical Power Technology and I go to you First when I have any car repair I'm not sure about ( my sons (3 of them) and I do all the repairs on our 6 vehicles - even tires for the old cars and trailers) . I saw you're video w the jag that needs a fuel pump and laughed my ass off- I have an 85 sj6 I keep around to remind me beauty is definitely only skin deep( what a needy vehicle) . I have three kids that drive and plus my suburban and my wife's venture to keep running. Today's menu G10 Chevy van that has brand new fuel interlock(oil pressure activated switch), a 3 week old installation of a reman. PCM, a 3 month old Bosch electric fuel pump and fuel pump relay . Fuel pump fuse is good . Getting .04 volt readings at oil pressure-activated sw , tan wire and .01 volt on gray wire with the ignition switch OFF. When ignit. switch is cranked get 10.46 on gray wire ( no change on other wire and orange wire is steady at 12.24 volts ). Is PCM possibly bad or fuel pump gone already? Car started perfectly this a.m. and ran 1 minute sputters and stopped- definitely have spark etc ( runs on starting fluid sprayed straight in to breather) Also, new fuel filter was installed last January 2015
Won't the smoke (mineral oil or glycol) leave residu inside the pipes? And can you use this on a turbo diesel after the MAF? It will build up some pressure in the turbo air inlet which is not designed for that :)

Scotty Kilmer Great product!! At what PSI are you running the compressor?
my unit has pressure regulator on it, and i set that at 2 psi. My compressor runs at90psi
Scotty Kilmer Awesome, thanks for the fast reply. I will be ordering one for myself. Have PO171 and P0174 codes on my f150.
Scotty Kilmer When placing the smoke machine on the brake booster do I have to plug close anything? For example the air intake? Throttle body etc etc. Doing this to my truck very soon.
That guy is goin to make a ton of money thanks to you scotty ! !!! High five ✋✊
You're so smart that it scares people. New mechanics are just there for the money. I like how you really help people.

Your the best Scotty, I bought a 98 Olds Intrigue with a leak near tge canister , woks like a dream and didn't pay $1500
Thanks so much scotty! Just ordered one of these kustom smoke machines and what a nice guy Brian is! Highly recommend!!!! I've used your wealth of knowledge quite a few times now. So glad I found your channel
Youre a good dude scotty lots of helpful videos .you are inspiring me to create a channel and teach people the things i know .

Mannn I gotta admit Scotty’s personality and sense of humor is growing on me. I wonder what he was like in high school
A crazy nerd LOL
Scotty couldn't you hook up to the exhaust of your corvette for smoke.
Oh my !
I now have this one, scavenged from the garage. I'm glad you did a video, so now I know how to use it. Thanks Scotty and Kustom Smoke!
My favorite RUclips mechanic.
I hope you’re getting rich working on cars at your home.
Thanks for showing the inside. Ill just go to the hardware store and build my own.
Made mine for under $20 no batteries needed works great!:)
Having my Saab Aero 2.0 litre checked over tomorrow 🙏

Scotty Kilmer, sir you are my idle.
Brilliant! The best so far!
Omg I love all the random endings!! where will we leave you next week?..
"What do you mean I'm funny?" Like I'm a clown, do I amuse you?"
Thanks Scotty. I just made myself a homemade smoke machine with a jar, bicycle pump, and a cigar. Hopefully I find my leak
Hi Scotty, our autool sdt206 , a useful smoke machine. You should try.
I was like..."is he really going to have a dolphin in the next scene?" Yep! Good stuff man.
i've seen people use fog machines, lots of thick smoke actually works better than anything else i've seen!!
and it's less than 40 bucks for one of those things
bunkerbuster I heard the liquid they use in fog machines isn't safe for the engine or sensors
Thank you Scotty. I will try and google to find the location of plastic cap to do a smoke test and find purge vaule.
Scotty Kilmer is even crazier at 1.5x.
Looks like a well-deserved vacation thank you for your video sir
I love this guy
Got mine for $50 on ebay. They were selling for 69 best offer. Offered 50 they took it. Cant beat that. It was the smoke Tek brand.
Good video, I have experienced all kinds of performance problems with vacuum leaks on different cars. would love to have an affordable smoke detector, thanks for sharing.
can you use it for radiator leaks? or cooling system leaks?
Great, inventive idea. Thank you for the video.
Can't believe how cheap this smoker is. It's a must buy!!
How do you use it to test for evap leaks
LOVE IT. Great cheap fix. you saved me again SCOTTY!
I wish this guy was my uncle or something, he cracks me up all while giving solid advice about car repairs.
Wow Mr K you know flipper!
I gotta try my a power hitter. Thanks for posting
I made one from a paint can used it twice works great.
Saw a video where the guy mounted lighted punks stuck a piece of foam. Everything else was the same but no heating element
the wick is a bundle of Tiki Torch wicks.. (a friend pointed out)
Hmmm lol i think ive got a pretty clean paint can downstairs.and coat hanger plus supplies....off too the work bench 😅👌
Nice dolphin ending Scotty you're the best.
Thank you
Great advice, love your vids can you make a video to find evaporative emissions systems leaks?
U are Da Man Scotty.......Thnx.
Hey Scotty can I come over and help you organize your garage? Lol
Very nice video Thank you Sir 👍👍👍👍
Scotty I have a 2010 nissan maxima that has a leaky sunroof I believe. I had to drain water out of my back driver side door. I also seen a puddle of water in my passenger side floor. Also the roof leaks in the car. My ac has a funny smell now when it's on so I dont run it . Thank you
Why not smoke cigar and blow smoke inside the hoses to see where the leak coming from. Would that be eazy to do?
Really nice guy. I thank you for your videos
wow i just noticed hes working on a 2valve triton engine. and the last spot EVER i would think thats causing my vaacuum leak would be where the MAF sensor plugs into?? ill have to check tomorrow to see if this is causing my problem.
Great video.
Thank you Ozzy
Scotty, why did you use the brake booster line? isn't that for the brakes?
you are brilliant
hey scotty love the vids my auto transmission makes a ping type noise when going into reverse and it also takes more time than usual to go into gear when accelerating.
and I just had it serviced.
will a smoke test cause any problems on a car and when should the test be done? does the car need to be cold?
You can do this with an ecig.
Thx for the tip scotty
Just ordered one
As always, thanks for the tips!
The problem with my Jeep smoking is cheech and chong was in the back seat.
Haha! Is that a joint mannnn! Looks like a quarter pounder mann :D
Ok I did I hope he answer. .have a good day sr.
Nice vape
so, if your checking the back muffler pipe, like in this video, how did you hook that baby up to your battery terminals? Did not see how long jumper cables were here, sorry.
Lol I love the endings to each episode! So random!
This guy is amazing!!!!
Walah! Very good ideas Scotty.. Thanks!
nice tip scotty
Hi Scotty...thanks for the wonderful informative videos. I simply use a cigar.....:)
i like your 'finding leaks with a cigar"
What a great idea!
Great video , thanks for the usefull tips .
THanks Scott, can you use this to detect leaks in Car AC?
Scotty! Awesome video again -but where would one hook up the machine if they are smelling gas in back drivers side? Es300 2001 -im getting the P0440 code and already changed the gas cap
Thanks Scotty for the good advice =)
I WANT THAT SMOKE MACHINE !
So could you essentially use a vape and push the air through with a bike pump :O ?
Awesome !! Be looking for a smoke machine...thank you
Do mechanics at the shop do the same thing u did to test for leaks? Not sure if that’s worth $80
You look like Steve Perry who can't sing. 😂 .. but thank you for your educational videos. 👍👍👍👍
