- In this video we take the Turbo Miata to a "Gymkhana Autocross" called "downforce battles". It's a head to head autocross, the first car to cross the finish line WINS! We race a S2000, BRZ, Fiesta ST, Camaro, 5.0 Mustang, GTR, and most importantly, a full race car Mini Cooper.

I've never seen an event run like that, nor have I seen one where they don't have mirrored tracks for head 2 head runs, so weird...
The car seemed like it did great though! and the filming was actually good, both outside views, and internal, especially loved the angle on the hood in the start.
The surface isn't prepped so it could never be 1:1 identically mirrored. The grip issue is just because of the layout overlapping a location where tire rubber is more prevalent on one side than it is the other. Other than that, the layouts are completely mirrored. Unfortunately, grip is everything in autocross so one lane having an unfair advantage... Stinks. Just a bit fishy.
Holy cow, that miata is fast. With little practice nobody is going to beat you!

I’m the guy in the Fiesta. Someone pointed me to this video. The only two out-of-car videos of me at downforce battles are now this one and that gnarly camaro that won outright here and I lost them both. 😂 I ended up winning 10 of my 15(4/5 exhibition, 6/10 comp). In case you’re curious yes, the Fiesta is modified. E30 tune is supposed good for roughly 220-225whp and 275ft-lb tq. Hasn’t been dyno’d. Stiffer springs and rear sway bar round out the “bigger” mods. Full interior as it is my daily. Unfortunately, I am on all season tires. Not that that would’ve changed the outcome of our race. Good times.
Is there not like a surge tank or baffles to stop the leaning out . Like I'd love to see Molly kill a whole event

This is basically a prosolo autocross. The prosolo events are a lot more even, and they have classes for different cars. I know you were saying you wanted a more fair event, prosolo is what you want
a gymkhana course is typically more open with tighter elements that double back to each other

I like the event setup because it pushes reliability unlike any others. But they should change the end so it's not a king of the hill where the winner gets absolutely no cool down, that's a little too far. Great video!

Love this venue! Really unique. They used to run the SCCA autocrosses there. You can usually hear shenanigans going on across the street at Road Atlanta too which is pretty neat. The bank doesnt look that steep on camera, but it's pretty severe! Tons of fun.

This has got to be one of my favorite episodes. I really enjoyed watching Molly tear up the track. I am also, admittedly, just as disappointed as Gingium about being eliminated from the top 8. Perhaps, for future events, bring fuel canisters to rapidly refuel on the go. I look forward to the next race.

What a sick event! There's a guy here in South Africa that has a hayabusa 1300 turbo motor in his old mini - that thing is fire on the gymkhana track!

hey, pro tip on the extra strap length when you trailer the car. Instead of tossing the excess into the Miata, where it is able to flap around and scratch your paint on the door sills (or rear bumper if you use the trunk), roll up the excess into a 16" roll, flatten the roll, and use a strong 3" spring clamp to clamp the flattened roll to the tensioned part of the strap.
EDIT: also hot damn, you were across the street from Road Atlanta. Forget autocross, go across the street!
You should build one of those bagged trailers for a lowered car. That would be an awesome video

That is true, but it’s unfortunate as a content creator. Spending time setting up cameras, swapping batteries, etc really hurt me as well.
@@_Gingium_ no doubt, especially since you were set up with what was probably the best car there. It was a fun watch though, I’d love to see more of this style of content, especially if there’s direct head to head battles like this meet had. Really adds some suspense and excitement to each run
