ZhangtheGreat Right! I remember a story by Mike Holdgrum. Saying at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii after a practice. ALL the players stood around and watched Jerry workout on the field for 30 minutes. Running sprints, routes, etc. These are the best players in the world, and even they are admiring his work ethic.

    1. doesn't matter who throwing him the ball he'll still accomplish what he dream about as a kid
    2. doesn't talk much let his skill and hard work pay off
    3. 3 days after winning the SB he's back at it no break time still catching ball
    4. becoming the legend he is and leaving behind nothing giving it his all

Growing up as a 49er fan and all, I was used to Deion Sanders on the opposing team of the Niners. I did enjoy seeing Rice line up with Sanders. I also remember being highly amused when I heard Sanders signed 1-year with SF. He came from the Atlanta Falcons who were at the time division rivals. AMAZING Cornerback but his showboating angered you. However, for 1 year, he was *OUR* AMAZING, showboating CB. He was well worth the price and I only wish the 49ers retained him longer. You had to build to beat the early-mid-90s Cowboys, and Sanders was a part of 2 of the Super Bowl Championships between the Niners and Cowboys.

  • @eclarke5773

Those 49er teams will never be matched. The following season was the beginning of the Salary Cap era, which brought an end to stock-piling expensive free agents onto one team. The talent is spread out across the league now, so you don't have teams like the 49ers & Cowboys of the early to mid-90s anymore ... those squads were LOADED with superstars. I miss those days.

The players said Jerry could run away from anyone any time he wanted to. I only wished Al would let Gruden do what he was capable of doing. Grudin proved it he took the Raiders and Tampa to the superbowl. It has not been easy being a raider fan. When the owner is fickle and uncommited it is hard to get excited.

Dallas really lost their swag after Jimmy left. The only time the Barry Switzer era Cowboys beat SF was in 1996 during the regular season. Jimmy's Cowboys were much more disciplined and knew how to beat the 49ers. Jerry Jones' ego ruined the Cowboys.

    • @allendaniel7405

OfficialGrizzly exactly cause once Jimmy left the players started to get out of control. Barry was too relaxed and lot of players on that team felt like Barry should've did more. And not to mention Jerry wanted all the credit for the guy's that Jimmy brought in.

I'll go on record as saying there will never be another receiver that is a Pro Bowler at 40 putting up a 92 catch, 1211 yard season and being the best offensive weapon on a Super Bowl team like Rice was with the '02 Raiders. Millenials like you think that athleticism is a substitute for intangibles. The current NFL product is vastly inferior to the one Rice played in.

"Touchdown 49ers!" by Joe Starkey. Been a 49er fan my entire life, I share Jerry Rice's middle name AND his birthday, although I didn't find that out until my late 20s. I started watching the season that they beat Cincinnati the first time in Super Bowl 16 at the Silverdome. Every time I think back in a fit of nostalgia, I think of Starkey saying that. It always sounded so unique. Now any time I hear it on highlights, I just smile. A different time.

The difference between Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders was simple! Deion Sanders had all the talent in the world, but he had no heart, and expected everything to be handed on a sliver platter, because he was so talented. Jerry Rice, came from a Division 2 school, and worked his ass off since the moment he was drafted. He never took for granted being an NFL player, and never took a day off.
I have a lot more respect for Jerry Rice than I have for Deion Sanders!

+Ty Tratar You're right about the part about Deion being so talented but lacking some of the work ethic, however, Deion played with a much heart as about any player that ever played. Deion loved the game of football, and he would always dance around field and play with everything he had. To say Deion played with no heart is just flat-out wrong.
