A bit of trivia about mylar balloons...when I worked at a long-term care facility in Albuquerque, one daughter would buy the figural balloons and when the gas was expired, she'd mount those beauties on her Dad's wall with pushpins! Made lovely, colorful 'wallpaper' that brightened up Dad's room!

I think it's sweet to see the things people put in safes - the things they consider their treasures even if they have less worth to others. In this case I suspect they were the things he would be gutted to lose if there was a fire as it was mainly paper/card collectables and memorabilia. In the safe they have a chance of surviving. That said, it always confuses me that these things that mean so much end up in storage lockers and then eventually the lockers are defaulted on so they lose the lot. Every locker seems to tell a different story.
