Thanks, in large part, to this channel, I drove 880 miles to WA to watch Sea Fair last year. I've always loved hydroplanes but thanks to this channel I got into radio controlled hydroplanes and decided I had to go see the real ones in person. It was an experience I'll never forget and one I hope to make an annual occurrence.
Hey don't blame me! Come to the Tricities race sometime and I'll show you around. Much better environment and viewing here!
I live in San Antonio now but I was born on Mercer island and lived on the rock for 35 years. I was actually a pit boy for the Miss Budweiser and I can seriously tell you your interests in hydros is well deserved.
Make sure to check out the hydro museum, it's great
Great to have you back racing 🎉
Thanks! So much more to come
Nice to see the discussions about boats .
Its an amazing artform
Great video! thanks for showing a bit about the boats, not always easy to find much about them for people who would like to get into it
Check out my boat building playlist... Maybe you can build your own!
@@M5PerfHydros Thanks Scott! i've been watching the series over the last few days, im in Australia an it's really hard to get any kits over here from the states without paying 2-3x the price of the kit in shipping, however i found lastnight that Blazer Marine ship at reasonable prices an think i'm going to pull the trigger on one, thanks for all the helpful videos!
You talk about fingerprints...meanwhile putting your hands all over these guys boats. LMAO Beautiful machinery & craftsmanship.
✋✌️
Awesome video.
Great to see my friend Mike out there from Riverside .
Makes me want to make the trip .
Yes, servo mounts would be awesome .
Start driving, we're racing in Ellensburg WA this coming weekend!
RIVERSIDE ? WTH I live in Riverside Ohio. and we have a River, unlike KaliforniUH
Welcome back Scott!! Good to see M5 back at it!!
I ain't going nowhere!
Was easy to miss that you put out another pit area/racing video... Always great to see what everyone's doing! Some great paint work and detail work!
Hard to believe I'm the first to comment. I know why... Everyone else is working on their own boat or at the pond testing!!! Like I should be! By the way, I'm not a coffee drinker... Great work, Scott.
Odd. It wasn't supposed to be released yet!
I just checked... It hasn't been listed. Who is this please, and where did you find it posted?
Where was this race at @@M5PerfHydros
Finley Washington
I think I found it listed with the other pit tours. I looked at all the dates and view counts. Was starving for more M5 race/pit tour video. And remembered you mentioned a new video coming out. I'm always looking for something from M5!!! Learned a lot from you and your videos!!
A LOT easier to find, NOW!!
Thanks Scott, nice trip down Memory Lane, Merv, NZ
Thanks Merv, it's good to hear from you!
Forgot how much i missed these , great job , keep em coming . Regards PJB in the UK
Thanks PJB!
Epic stuff brother thank you for sharing
Thanks. Not a mono guy myself, but kinda dig your channel's vibe too!
@@M5PerfHydros I do cats and hydros as well. Finishing up a Q sized black pearl sport hydro now. Full wood boat, your videos came in handy for that.
Seeing the boats in Oret Bay makes me feel refreshed. 👍
Thank you for the video. 🙏
I remembered small boats such as ABC HOBBY's Gancia dei Gacia, CESA1885, and BALTEK.
PRATHER LAPCAT 21, 40 Many things come to mind
Japanese boat maker KNK also comes to mind.
CREST 1000 .40 cc engine (ops)..... 🛥😁 and OCTURA (White Heat).. 😲
Thanks to you, I'm happy because it brings back a lot of old memories. 😄🥰
You're welcome, and thanks for watchin'!
Yay!
Woo hoo!
If you upscaled these to full size and the performance went upsize with them, the speeds would be over 300 mph lap times in H1 Hydro.
Close, but the 8th scale boats are doing over 500mph scale equivalent @ just over 100lbs weight! Zoom zoom
Awesome job Scott excellent job on the in depth coverage. My first race is in 2 weeks.
Cool! Are you in WA? Coming to Ellensburg?
Would like to go but I’m in Missouri.
Start driving, we're racing in Ellensburg WA this coming weekend!
@@M5PerfHydros Would really like that. But I’m not ready for you professional guys yet.
Hey Scott I laughed when I heard Henry was launching your boat. If I remember on one of your videos he threw one upside down.
Man I love how u always throw up a pic of your dog in the beginning of your videos. I'm so sorry for your loss, I could not imagine a day without my dog. On a lighter note.......I love your videos as well!
Thanks, I appreciate that. Jaxon was my right-hand dog, truly one of a kind
I love to watch your videos, cause I love boat racing and boats are amazing it's beautiful.
Thank you!
On a real Race Boat, the Hydro dynamic Prop and Skid Fins are Razor sharp. So much so you need to handle the parts with kevlar gloves. Work on leading and trailing edges of both parts, to go fast....
Some yes, some no. I've handled full size hydroplanes with near razor edged components (I've shed blood proving it) that were not competitive and I've handled boats with rounded leading edge components that were kicking tail. The reverse has been true also, so which is correct? I say both are. Submarines and racing sailboat keels are rounded in the front, not razor edged. Why is this? Likely because water likes to flow gradually around a shape and not get "kicked" around it. But in an area where we really do want to "kick" the water off a surface (props anyone?) we do sharpen the leading edge. Boats seem so simple, but yet there's so much to think about!
Excellent Video 💯 the wrinkling in the paint is form something didn’t dry correctly.. could be acrylic over lacquer paint over top of each other will cause that as well👍
Derek said he was in a rush and put the next coat on too early.
There you go!
I see you met my neighbor and his brother!
Ya but where were you?! Those guys are really great, and they've made huge strides in boat performance since the last time they were here!
I'm heading to salt lake for my first boat race with them next weekend . Should be interesting!
Nice!! Shoot some video!
Beautiful hydros. I just subscribed to your channel. 👍 👍👍👍
Thanks! Now with a name like All Scale RC, isn't it time for you to build a scale hydroplane? 😜🏁🏁
@@M5PerfHydros I will be soon I hope 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The Hydra ESC is one of the best it looks like he had a fly color in there before not the way to go Hydra castle creations meant
“ SQUIRREL “😮😮😮😮😮
I know, I know
that is my old 80 backup bud
That's cool!
Scott, the gas round nose 69 Pay N Pak, 65 Bardahl and Dereks Miss US are all from the same molds.
Ya but there's been some fiddlin' going on underneath that Bardahl methinks
@@M5PerfHydros maybe..... we have been trying a couple things between the Bardahl and the Pak.
i thought speedy was the guy's nickname, lol
Thanks for this! Makes me so excited for boat season (I'm from Madison).
Also, who's building the full size boat you mentioned?
Jason Colean has been in Alabama working on the Wiggins' new unlimited
That lead picture you baited us with has a profile that looks where more like Hawaii Kai then Bardahl, or maybe one of the Detroit boats I.e; Amirnoff, or Gail’s Roostertail,
Ya those hulls were very similar, 29 - 30' long, roughly the same width, identical afterplane. Floor and some sponson differences between them too
I race at Evansville Indiana and iracr 26ccthunderboats
Why do you guys go right ? Just wondering.
Prop rotation makes gas boats turn right better, as we get into electric its not so important as they have L/H and R/H props ,
Engine rotation. Full size hydroplane engines rotate clockwise causing the hull to rotate counterclockwise resulting in a lifting of the right side sponson. If the boats turned to the right they would tend to simply flop over in the turns. Most RC engines rotate counterclockwise lifting the left sponson, so we turn right.
Ah OK thanks for the info I did not think about that at all.
25:25 was Homer Simpson there?!?!
DOH!
If these boats are going 65 MPH, what would that be at scale?
Well that would be 520mph
I lost my top cover on my first run as well 😢
Bummer!
Ahhh the ol paint pucker. Most spray paints have a recoat time if you wait to long check your drying times. If it says recoat with in 20 min. or allow 24hours to recoat. not 23 not 22 it will pucker every time learned my lession painting bike parts
Hey Scott those engine spacers bill is selling of yours are they plastic or rubber ?
They're PETG printed plastics. PETG is stronger than PLA, higher temperature and much more chemically resistant
Plus they have a cool M5 Logo!
I was watching highlight videos of full size unlimited hydros, and came upon your video. A question came to mind. Is there a specific reason why the big boys(Unlimiteds)race counterclockwise but the R/C’s race clockwise? Or did it just happen to end up that way?
Good question! It's a motor rotation issue. For whatever reason r/c engines rotate counterclockwise instead of clockwise like full size hydroplane engines do. The counter rotating effect of the engine and prop tend to lift the left side sponson, and if we turned hard to the left the boats would tend to flop over to the right. So .. for the same reason big boats turn left, we have to turn right. I guess it's like you said; It just happened to end up that way! 🤣
@@M5PerfHydros Thanks, I didn’t think of that. I remember way back when, when I was into ski boating with outboards, that the “cockpit” was usually on the starboard side to compensate for the rotation of the engine. Same when I switched to inboard/outboards.
Is there anyone looking to buy a lot of boat plans . i have 3 motors molds jigs B wood and a lot more . every thing i have come from Wa.S . i can send pics of every thing i have if anyone like to see all i have. i can tell you i have close to 2000 dollars in it all. but i will take a lot less . i think the one motor is a 67 ops or a 90. please dont hold me to that .
