Smash actually does have a story mode! Two actually, Brawl has the most narrative driven while Ultimate is more combat and puzzle focused. You could definitely look at the cinematics for Brawl’s story mode (Sub Space Emissary) and still follow its story while Ultimate has very little cutscenes, literally just the start of the mode and the ending(s)
Brawl’s story mode is essentially the villains of each franchise in the Brawl cast teaming up to take over the collective universes and transforming the heroes into trophies, a sort of hibernation state each fighter goes into when knocked out. The heroes attempt to band together and defeat the villains, following different groups until they eventually all team up.
While Ultimate sees every single fighter attempting to defeat the Big Bad and ending up being defeated by a devastating attack, Kirby being the sole survivor (Sakurai’s favoritism to his child) and setting out on a quest to liberate the captured fighters, who have been copied and are used as vessels for lesser characters from the franchises and forced go serve the Big Bad.
Ultimate’s World of Light mode is definitely more better to play through yourself while Brawl’s story can be viewed on RUclips without losing out on much from the actual gameplay. Especially since it might be difficult to get a Wii console and a copy of Brawl yourself. Glad you enjoyed what you saw though!

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames always happy to help! I believe the intentions when developing the story mode in Brawl was “It would be too expensive to hire voice actors for each character and too complicated since many are Silent Protagonists” so they focused on conveying the characters’ emotions and personalities by how they act and express themselves. This also helps if you have no idea who the character is, the way they act conveys who they are.

I love how Rathalos made an appearance in the Ultimate intro even though there isn’t a proper fighter rep for Monster Hunter in the game. Some Mii Costumes were added later but Rathalos was just a boss fight and occasional Assist Character in Items games. The respect Monster Hunter gets from Japan is really endearing, especially since two of its music tracks where played during the Tokyo Olympics.

      @itsturniptime3699 2 года назад +6

@@mechanomics2649 Well the problem is that Monster Hunter in comparison is a very slow and methodical character. We can’t really fit them into Smash without killing the spirit of the character, which Smash is generally against. Plus they would most likely swap weapons for different moves, but then they just become a rehashed Byleth and won’t stay faithful to their home game. Rathalos as a boss fight is possibly the best decision they could have made since getting Hunter to work in Smash and look good would be finicky to say the least.

You have no idea how seeing, and hearing, that Ultimate trailer made me FEEL.
Hearing a song I have known for over two decades, from one of my oldest and dearest games, in a new light. This song that I associate with high energy fighting, that gets you pumped for battle, turned into an epic of music for the last and greatest entry of an iconic series.
Orchestral music, gorgeous vocals, a song of hope in bleak circumstances, of rallying together, and righteous battle against the darkness.
No exaggeration, I cried. I was unbearably happy, and a little sad, but in a good way. You want to end on a high note, and Ultimate is the send-off the game's deserved.

The only real story mode with cutscenes all throughout was for Brawl called the Subspace Emmisary and it showcases most of the characters in that game interacting with each other in a single world which was cool.
Definitely see that since it was on the Wii and it is already long without the gameplay sections in the middle.
Ultimate technically has World of Light but there are barely any cutscenes to see and the main focus was on the fights with special modifiers, no real story to see, but it’s on the Switch so could there playthrough in the future?
Also, love it when every time Ken sees the Wii Fit Trainer he can’t believe his eyes.

The reason why smash bros ultimate has the song 'LifeLight' playing, is because it's the song that brought the these fighters in smash, and the tag line for smash bros ultimate is "Everyone is Here". From melee to brawl to smash 4 (Wii U and 3Ds) there were fighters that were cut out from those games and its been a literal decade since some of those fighters came back for smash, hence with ultimate "Everyone is Here", they brought everyone back. No one got the boot.

(3:05) Those guys that you said looked like the Blues Brothers are the Runaway Five. They are a band in MOTHER 2 (The game Ness is from) that travel around, but always gets in debt by some sort of bogus contract and Ness always has to end up getting them out of debt during his adventure. Runaway Five were heavily inspired by the Blues Brothers so much so that in the original Japanese version of MOTHER 2 the band name was "Runaway Brothers." but due to copyright laws when localizing the game to America they had to rename the band to "Runaway Five" (even tho there are actually 6 people in the band) as well as changing their black suits in the Japanese version of MOTHER 2 to red and green suits (reminiscent of Mario & Luigi) in the US version.

Fun Fact: Link and Zelda due to the whole multiple timelines and reincarnation have the most characters represented in Smash. I hope you have popcorn cause this will take a while. The first two have the older Ocarina of Time Link and Zelda. Melee adding Link’s younger self as a separate character and Zelda’s male alter ego Sheik as a transformation. The third and fourth games change this by using Link and Zelda’s descendants from Twilight Princess which is part of Young Link’s timeline, though Zelda still has her alter ego Sheik for some reason. They also added Link from The Wind Waker as Toon Link who is a reincarnation from Ocarina of Time’s adult timeline who is not related to the previous Link. However the Spirit Train stage uses a *different* Toon Link in the background from Spirit Track, which is a hundred years after The Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. Ultimate changes this up again by introducing Link from Breath of the Wild which is so far into the future it’s unknown which timeline he’s from. The Zelda in Ultimate is from A Link Between Worlds, a game from a timeline where Ocarina of Time Link died in the final battle. Since Sheik was made a separate character this means Ocarina of Time Zelda is in the game as well. Ganondorf is a bit more peculiar as he’s only been reincarnated twice in the whole series so all of his Smash appearances are the same person but at different ages. Melee and Ultimate use his younger Ocarina of Time appearance however Brawl, WiiU and 3DS use his appearance from Twilight Princess. Strangely his appearance in Brawl doesn’t have the glowing scar he got from being run through with a sword. I’m not going to go into the other headaches with there being stages and using attacks from different places in the timeline.

The intro for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64 is completely unique as far as I'm aware. The intro for Super Smash Bros. Melee is actually the initial reveal trailer for the game, though it was so long ago, you're more likely to find a video recording at the live event of it's reveal than the raw trailer itself. Super Smash Bros. Brawl's intro has bits taken from its story mode, the Subspace Emissary, which I HIGHLY recommend reacting to sometime. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS doesn't have an intro, I believe, while Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's intro is basically made up of it's character reveal trailers, though oddly enough it's missing from the video you watched; you only saw the reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and a character reel from one of the Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Directs. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's intro is similar to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's intro in that it's also made up of stuff from the character reveal trailers, but it also has stuff from it's story mode, World of Light. Unlike Subspace Emissary, I wouldn't really recommend reacting to it's cutscenes because there's only, like, 5 of them, and they're all short and light on content. Only the opening cutscene has much meat to it, and you might as well just watch the reveal trailer for World of Light because it's basically just plus and overview of the gist of what that story mode is light.
I'd say each intro to Smash Bros. gives a good idea of what each game is like; Smash 64 is light, comic book-like fun, Melee is Smash 64 but bigger and better, Brawl takes itself very seriously (almost too seriously), Smash Wii U is... well, it is what it is, and Ultimate truly feels "ultimate" in every sense of the word.

You haven't watched Splatoon 1 or 2 , right? That kid who turns into a interesting kind of orange creature and has a water gun (which shoots paint instead of water) is called an Inkling, it's a pretty nice fast-paced shooter where you cover everything in paint, and defeat opposing inklings with your own paint, transform into a squid and ride your paint while recharging your paint shooter, there's buckets and other kinds of paint spreading weapons too, water kills all inklings no matter what though, and paint that isn't the inkling's color hurts her/him.

There’s actually a good video by Game Theory that lays out a plot for the games
It basically follows a young boy who plays with his Nintendo toys, with each game and every battle being the boy’s imagination. It’s like how a child would make their toys fight.
Throughout each game, the child would grow, with him being a teenager in Melee, a young adult in Brawl, and finally an adult in Smash 4 and Ultimate
In the first game, the final boss is Master Hand, which is a physical representation of the boy’s creativity. The Master Hand is the creator of the Smash World.
In Melee, Master Hand returns along with his counterpart, Crazy Hand.
Crazy Hand is a representation of the boy’s chaotic and destructive nature, which comes from him being a teenager and wanting to destroy things. While Master Hand created the Smash World, Crazy Hand aims to destroy it.
In Brawl, Master Hand returns, but is no longer the main threat. Instead, it’s a being named Tabou. The boy is now a young adult, and the social taboo is that young adults do not play with toys. Master Hand is quite literally controlled by Tabou and forced to turn the characters into trophies, basically Societal Taboo forcing the boy to see his toys as simply that, toys and trophies.
In Smash 4, at the end of the boss fight against Master Hand and Crazy Hand, after defeating both at the same time, a dark smoke bursts out of the hands to form Master Core. The Master Core is the manifestation of the boy’s frustrations and anger. After a surprisingly intense final boss, the Master Core simply turns into a glowing ball with the Smash logo on it and lets the player finish it off. This could represent the boy finally giving up and letting his imagination control him
In Smash Ultimate, there are two main threats. Galeem and Dharkon. Galeem represents the light, or the boy’s imagination. While Dharkon represents reality, trying to tear down the boy’s imagination and force him to confront the cruel world beyond, in game he literally sucks the soul out of the characters, turning them into corrupted husks, essentially sucking the imagination and wonder out of the boy.
Galeem and Dharkon are at war and the Nintendo characters are essentially in the middle of it all. If Galeem wins, the boy will be stuck in a fantasy, or in his imagination, never growing up. If Dharkon wins, the boy will lose his imagination, and lose the thing that gave him so much happiness throughout his childhood. In the end, both Galeem and Dharkon had to be destroyed. The Nintendo Characters become orbs of light and float to the sky. The boy can finally grow up and move on while still holding on to his colorful imagination.
Game Theory also states that the game represents the journey of Smash’s creator, Masuhiro Sakurai. With Sakurai starting out as a child who was a massive Nintendo fan. Sakurai represents Master Hand, creating the Smash games and being the creator behind the franchise itself.
Sakurai had difficulties creating the sequel, Smash Melee. It is clear that Smash Bros is now affecting his life, and is actively ruining his health and overtaking his life. Crazy Hand represents Sakurai’s desire to destroy Smash, to destroy everything he has built so he would get his life back again.
As stated in Crazy Hand’s bio, he represents a creator’s desire to destroy everything they have built.
In Brawl, this is amplified even more by Tabou, a representation of Nintendo itself, locking Sakurai and forcing him to continue making Smash games even if he wishes to stop
In Smash 4, Master Core represents all of Sakurai’s anger and frustrations finally being released. In the end, he finally gives up and let the player defeat him. Sakurai has given up everything he wanted and will keep giving what the fans want, which is more Smash games and more DLCs
Smash Ultimate has Galeem and Dharkon. Galeem represents the fans of Smash, who keeps wanting Sakurai to create more and more games. Dharkon represents Nintendo, who will ruin Smash and the story behind it if they take over. The Fans and Nintendo clash while Sakurai, representing the Nintendo characters, is stuck in the middle. Whether one side wins or not, he will suffer. He either has to make even more games. Or he will lose ownership of his own creation, and will be forced to watch as the franchise he created loses its message and meaning.
It isn’t until both are defeated that the toys can finally be released and not forced to battle each other for eternity

Smash songs (songs that are specific to smash, not the plethora of remixes in them) are VERY weird because they're still to this day trying to nail the feel.
n64 had a weird funk pop thing going on and its by far the weirdest because nintendo had no idea smash would continue to be a thing
melee sounds like a saturday morning cartoon, a little too silly maybe
brawl is wildly in the opposite direction. They have a latin choir thing going on that while really epic, doesnt really match wario farting and animals fighting children?
smash 4 and smash ult have pretty similar styles where they're more action heavy but they're still experimenting with feel and its getting closer to what you'd expect from a smash game
I'd say the lyrics added to ultimates main theme were somewhat for a "reveal". The main theme had played multiple times in multiple trailers without the lyrics. Brawl had an extensive cgi scene filled story, and smash4 didnt. When ultimate revealed it was going to do a story trailer, they introduce you with trailer, that has a pretty cool cutscene and just at the end when all hope is lost, and kirby is falling to the planet, the lyrics kick in and they show how the story mode will work in trailer format, it was a big surprise. Still, most of the time, the main theme plays without lyrics

Only SSB I've ever played was on my N64 back in like high school/jr high. I always thought Samus was awesome, played a bit of Captain Falcon too...but my absolute dominator was always Kirby. I wasn't like "oh he's so COOL" but dude I was a force of destruction with that little pink puffball. The N64 was the last Nintendo console I ever owned though, so I never got to try any of the others. I'm sure they're fun, with the added cast of characters and stuff...but idk, they just don't really look terribly compelling to me. I get that the point is to ring out the opponents, but it feels like the maps just get smaller and smaller until it feels like there's hardly any actual fighting happening. Just an outsider's opinion, though.
It's funny how few of the represented titles I've actually played, either. I played a bit of the original Super Mario Bros back in the day, along with Duck Hunt. Only LoZ game I've ever played is Ocarina of Time, though it was SO FREAKING GOOD that it cemented me as a "fan" even with my limited experience with the franchise. There was a pretty popular Donkey Kong Country game back on the SNES, I played that a bit. Heck, I've never even played a proper Pokemon game (I played Stadium on N64 with stock rental Pokemon since I didn't have a real game to import my own from lol). When I was younger I had such limited access to video games because my family didn't have a lot of money, so I just kinda got my fun where I could with the few games I had and whatever I got to play at friends' houses.
Still, the original SSB on N64 will always have a special spot in my heart. I put in a lot of hours playing it, both solo and with friends. Good times, fond memories. :)

Gotta love the smash bros games. Intros are always fun. There are just some unknown reasons on why intros on some games just pull you in. Definitely on smash bros you just can't stop smiling on their intros.
To answer kens question about the blues Brothers in the smash bros melee intro....I'd have to say they're definitely influenced by Jake & Elwood blues. "I'll have 4 fried chickens and a coke" ...lol. love that line great movie!
But after watching the Ssb melee intro I believe they are in that intro...even if just for shock factor.

Especially if they know the reference to the film. Halloween of 2017 we dressed as Jake and Elwood blues...did that line at a waffle house...and it got the best reaction you could ever want. They even greeted us and said "Blues Brothers....what would you like to drink"
