Just a little correction: the first American creative director and couturier in a French house is not Daniel Roseberry but Jay Jaxon at Jean-Louis Scherrer. He was not just the first American but the first black man to head a French couture house. A lot of publications give this credit to Rosbery, but Jaxon's history was kind of erased; a lot of people have no idea that he was there. Anyway, the video is pretty superb.
"Weird" isn't that hard to do, neither is beauty. But beautiful & weird -- that's a whole 'nother level, of imagination, of skill, of human power. Roseberry hits it time after time and, just as importantly, makes it look like the most natural thing in the world.
@@jansengarside Thank you. I was Diana Vreeland's ghost writer for a bit, two hundred years ago, so learned a thing or two about artifice and its place.
The video is excellent! Thank you! I am showing it to my undergraduate first-year Intro to Fashion studio. The commentary and photography are streamlined, astute, and accessible! Wonderful introduction into the Surrealist mind, and the world of Couture. Daniel Roseberry is a brillant soul!
Woow!! Incredible video, loved everything about it, what a great way and usage of words to describe one of the best designers in our generation with an amazing video editing and quality !! Thank you Jansen, can't wait to see more great work 🤍
Yes he was! However, YSL is not considered Haute Couture. To be considered as such there are criteria a house needs to meet. After Saint Laurent himself left in 2002, they shut down the couture division and now they only do Ready-to-wear. Tom Ford only designed RTW during his tenure

Beautiful content. Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely Astonishing!!
Roseberry is Schiaparelli's biggest f*** you to Chanel and that's a statement that resonates ages.
lol yeah there’s a reason I don’t talk much about Chanel. Just isn’t exciting anymore
Did I enjoy this video? Absolutely. I will like and subscribe thank you very much
Roseberry isn't channeling Schiaparelli but far exceeding her vision.
Fantastic!
incredible video dad !!!
Thank you, son. Your mom and I are so proud of you
Genius ❤
Wasn't Tom Ford the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent from 1999 to 2004? He's American and YSL is one of the biggest French Maison
