    Excellent video; it brought back memories from last summer off Brightlingsea & Mersea Island in almost similar conditions; great fun & for me a tad frightening. I have a Dagger Exodus & I've rarely buried the bow to the extent that you had in this video. I also have a KayalSailor 1.4m sq. sail w/genoa, so downwind as you had paddled is amazing fun. I even cheat these days with a pair of oversized homemade outriggers, so that I can raise the sail in strong sidewinds also. A bit too much last September when the heavy sea's & out to sea off the Colne Estuary destroyed my outrigger mountings, bending them completely out of shape. You exhibit excellent paddling skills & control. Regards from Colchester, JohnnyK.

      Hi John, thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, the nose buries because the P&H Valkyrie is a fast sea kayak based on surfski hull design. No loss of speed, and it gives a special feeling. We're not used to see the nose go down under the surface. Cuts like a knife through the butter! Have fun out there and be safe! Cheers!👌😊👍

    A very impressive video. I think the boat needs a little bit more rocker because the bow is very often in the wave

    • @Northseakayak
      @Northseakayak  4 года назад

      Hi Mario, Thank you! YEs indeed. The bow behaves like that of a surfski so it's normal that it goes under the surface every now and then. Speed stays the same. But this is still the prototype that I paddle with, with very little to no rocker. The final model is enhanced and has more rocker. I should receive one in the coming months, so I will see the difference. Cheers!

Everything that goes through water slows you down, but with the Valkyrie it sheds the water efficiently, and it will not slow you down as much as constantly going up and down (like a traditional boat). Must say that in this video, it was still the prototype Valkyrie. My current Valkyrie has more bow rocker and only dips now and then. Love the upgrade, P&H is really doing everything to build the best FSK possible! Cheers!👌😊

      Hi there, This one must have slipped through unnoticed, so sorry for the late answer. Thanks for your message, much appreciated. Yes, we have currently a second Corona wave over here but not as worse as the first. We are still able to go out on the water, but with limited people. Hope you are doing OK yourself? All the best!! The valkyrie seems to lack volume in the nose...it happens far too often that it goes under ...

    • @Northseakayak
      @Northseakayak  4 года назад +3

      Hi, I get that reaction often because people are used to see a classic sea kayak where the bow rarely dives. With the Valkyrie it is the purpose because its design is build on that of a surf ski, which has the same "nose diving". Hope this makes sense... Because of that the Valkyrie makes full use of its length, making this a fast sea kayak. The diving sheds the water over the bow without losing speed, like with a surf ski. Cheers!👌😊
