you cant just stop a speeding boat right next to a person, you have to slow right down or theyd have sailed right passed him. They also wouldnt have wanted to alert the shark that theres another possible meal in the water, by having the propellers on full blast, & creating noise & bubbles etc.
The man stayed still & the shark went away - if hed have started frantically swimming & screaming it may have made the shark pay more attention to him, instead of the kayak.

I could tell he never saw me. I started frantically splashing in the water and waving my hand so he could see me. I guess he saw me at the last minute. He didn't even stop and just looked at me like i was from another planet. I will never forget the terror which is nothing to what this kayaker went through.

Many years ago I was doing a checkout scuba dive with my sister in Monterey Bay. She was facing me when out of nowhere (due to low visibility) a great white🦈 swam behind her in front of me. It was huge, probably 12 feet long. She did not see it. Thankfully, it showed no interest and kept moving. I signaled her to head for shore. When we got in, she told me my eyes were as big as silver dollars when I was signaling to go in. So, I told her why. It was then I noticed the sea lions were all on their rooks and not entering the water. This happened early in the morning. Watching the local news in the evening it reported a surfer 🏄‍♂️ went missing around noon (about a mile down the beach, where we had been scuba diving) and all that was ever found was his surfboard with a big bite taken out of it by a shark. We continued our check out dive the next day, down by Carmel instead.

The shark actually was like: "Oops sorry for knocking you off mate, here's your kayak" *dragging it back to him then waving bye with his cute fin*

Your The only one with since enough to see what I seen. It's obvious the shark realized it's not his natural pray. And pushed the kayak completely back to the man and swam off!!! That's fuckin amazing and nobody on here realized what was happening was truly awesome!!

I was an open-water diver in Monterey Bay some years ago. Mostly we stayed in the area where the kelp fields were because sharks didn't come into that area where there were a lot of sea lions and seals, and they knew it! Sharks don't like kelp forests. There is NO WAY you could get me out in a kayak in that area now. With the rise in ocean temps, sharks are chasing bait-fish in close to shore now, and that is Great White area! I saw a nurse shark resting on the bottom but that wasn't a threat.
Monterey Bay, California, is within the "Red Triangle," (due to shark bites) and bloody water!) an area stretching from Monterey Bay up past San Francisco to about Bodega Bay and out west to the Farallon Islands. We used to fish out there near the Farallons all the time in about 300' deep water for rock cod, salmon during a run, and we'd see a lot of pinnipeds (a favorite food of sharks) all the time. Once I thought I had a huge salmon on the line, it ran way out, I was trying to reel it in and it was heavy, then it stopped. I reeled in just the head of a salmon, and saw a sea lion surface out there, chewing, and saying "thank you!"

I once saw a sealion attack a salmon off of the pier just inside GG bridge outside the Warming Hut cafe.
There was an almighty commotion in the water and by the time I got there I saw a salmon pop up to the surface bitten in two and blood everywhere. I was sure I was about to see my first great white and then a delighted sealion popped it's head up and started to devour the fish.

I thought conventional wisdom held that sharks do lurk in kelp beds amidst the seals and sea lions, in search of a meal. It is odd to hear that they actually avoided kelp beds in the past. Shows how little this landlubber knows about the sea.

@@riverbankfisher yes they’ve 100% been observed hunting in kelp forests in S. Africa at least. Stands to reason they’d hunt in N. Cali kelp forests too!

Great Whites prefer cold water temps. The water is warmer the shallower it gets. So if you blame great whites coming into shallow water because of "the rising ocean temperatures", then you are a moron.
Great Whites do go into kelp forests.
