NORTHSEAKAYAK - The Trip #4 - Ile de Bréhat

- What a packed trip to Ile de Bréhat (Bretagne, France)! Feeling thrilled and exhausted at the same time. It was spring tide, so there was a stronger tidal stream then previous time we were here. We had force 4 (sometimes gusting to 5) wind blowing from the NE which provided interesting conditions on the northern tide races. Hope you enjoy the footage as much as we did!!
Hey ! Great video! Thanks for sharing 👍 🙂🙋♂️🇨🇦
Cheers Alain! Glad you enjoyed it!!😊👌
Thanks for the content. Great watching you at work rolling with the boat in complete control.
Thank you Paul, glad you enjoyed the video!
Amazing Paddling, Amazing Cinematography, Amazing editing! You guys astound me with your skills. I smile at looking at everyone’s PFD load out…a lot to be gleaned from you.
Cheers Paul! You probably won't believe but we actually need more than one day of editing to make such a video. Thanks for watching!
Another great video Dimitri. Inspirational to those of us iced up for the moment!
Thank you Gwyn! Hope it thaws again soon so you can hit the water again!🌊💪😊
it's my favorite song of War on Drugs!! Great video!
Another fan of The War on Drugs!👌 Thank you!
Another fantastic video Dimitri & Sylvie, a lot of effort goes into your productions. I enjoy them very much. Thanks for taking the time and effort. I still struggle in 10cm waves let alone tide races and rock hopping!
Cheers Paul! More than a day's work but the result is there. Good memories for the future for sure! Hope that you can improve yourself bit by bit and enjoy those moments! Cheers!👌😊
Great video thanks from Florida.
Cheers David! Within a couple of weeks, we are on our way back to Brehat isle!
Love the War on Drugs 'Under the Pressure' .... Gr8 Sea kayaking!
Likewise! We even have this song on vinyl LP! Cheers!😊👌
Ile de Bréhat, quite possibly my favourite place in the world to go kayaking. Super jealous but really enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing.
Alas no paddle spins so only one thumbs up. 👍😉
Hi Phil! Thanks!! So you have been there also? Yes, I believe it is the closest place to go for us if you want to play around rocks and in tidal races. Cheers!😊👌
@@Northseakayak Yes, we went on holiday to the north coast of Bretagne several times until the rest of the family were tired of it! I am the only kayaker, you are so lucky to have Sylvie though I am training my son to follow in my wake. 😄
Fantastic footage! Congrats to you both. 👏👏👏 and 💕 to Bo and Storm.
Thank you, greetings from all of us!🤗👌😊
Some of my favorite places to be are rock hopping and tide races. The two of you made it look easy!
Thank you Robert! To be honest, we have no rocks and no tide races where we live. We do have a strong tide. It was only the second time we went into a real tide race... Our "secret" are a lot of so called harbor trainings. That is where we learn to combine steering strokes. Also, we learn to break in and out of moving water at the locks at the back of the harbor. More powerfull then a real tide race. You probably have rocks and tide races in your area? Lucky you! Greetings from the Belgian West Coast!!🌊👌😊
@@Northseakayak The big one near me is a place called Deception Pass. Boils, whirlpools, standing waves, and eddylines with current getting over 8 knots. Add a Force 4-5 wind and it's a real adventure. Most of the coast line here is rocks. We get. A chance to play on short day paddles.
@@robertnissenbaum we heard of that Deception Pass and we have seen footage. Interesting spot indeed!👌😊
Great paddle and clip as always.
Thanks John!👌
Great video yet again. I went out in my Scorpio at the weekend on a nice lake, Cant wait to get back into paddling the sea though! Keep the inspiring vids coming mate! :)
Hi Kieran, Thank you! We do our best. Great to hear you also had a good time!👌😊
Nice ! Better to have a PE kayak with those rocks 🤔😊 .. very nice video and music choice!
@@Northseakayak volgend jaar augustus !! Ile de Brehat !!
Amazing video,
greetings from Argentina
Thank you for the nice compliment!! Greetings back to you from the Belgian West Coast!👌😊
@@Northseakayak Nice country, I know Bruxelles and Brugge, again congratulations for the videos
Greatly enjoyed the footage. I need to get my sea kayaking cert
Good to hear, thank you for commenting and be safe on the water! Cheers! :-)
Great stuff.
Thank you!!👌
I think we met you and Sylvie paddling around Ile de Brehat on your last day. Two old Irish guys who were attending the CK de Mer meeting in Landrellec. Great paddling in Brehat. I like your video. Pity I didn't recognize who you were as I watch a lot of your videos.
Hello Michael!! Such a small world! Nice to meet you! What a coincidence?! Thank you for the nice compliment! Hopefully until next time!!👌😊
@@Northseakayak CK Mer is back in Paimpol to paddle Ile de Brehat next April. Might see you there.
@@Chancer8746 we hope to meet again in the future! Next year we will paddle probably in Skye, but not sure yet. Maybe back to Brehat within 2 years. All the best and may our paths cross once more!👌😊
hey dimitri - nice video….and excellent surfing skills 🤜🏻
Hello Julian!! So nice to hear from you, thanks! Are you still busy kayaking on the other side of the pond? All the best! D&S
@@Northseakayak hi....no....i stopped kayaking here because there's nothing more to see. i'm now doing extreme mountain biking. check my channel :)
@@salimsunji8056 Ah, OK, I will! Cheers! :-)
@@Northseakayak but go to my julian sims youtube channel not salim sunji
@@UrbFoxFact yes, saw it and had a look at some of your videos. It is something different. We also go MTB, but in function of kayaking, to be healthier and get more stamina at a lower heart rate. Cheers!💪😊👌
Felicitaciones.
Thank you Andres!😊👌
To the tears!
Glad you like it!!👌
Great day by the look of your smiles 👌, I'm interested in valkyrie but can't find any demo boats where I live.. Do you think you could of done all that in valkyrie, I understand it's primary design is not for rock hopping but since I can't test one I would love to know your opinion if I could still use it occasionally as a jack of all trades 🤔
Thanks for sharing this great footage and skills 🙏
Hi! Check our previous Ile de Brehat video and you will see that I did the first day with the Valkyrie. It will do occasionally, but it is not what it is designed for. The boat itself is though, but you must pay attention for the rudder. With the rudder up, the Valkyrie is extremely manouvrable (also the reason why it doesn't track that good without rudder). Hope this helps?
@@Northseakayak thanks for your reply, definitely helps.. At the moment it's near impossible to buy a kayak and even more to find a demo to test it so your feedback is very valuable 👍 as bikers would say.. Keep the shiny side up !!
Thanks!
Did some BCU training there with a group from Jersey, a great place to train.
Ah, yes! We had a meeting with probably that same group the time before. Friendly people. Good place to train because of all the options and different venues. 😊👌
I like your videos. You know your stuff and show it nicely! I have done a lot of kayaking, but not in central Europe and have been sidelined because of illness for more than 10 years. Will you be doing any workshops like the Croatia one this winter or next spring? If yes, I'm interested in participation. In the meantime, I'll train in my Valley Nordkapp to get my paddling skills back to snuff. I have been a teacher myself and I really like what I saw from that workshop. So, please organise one! Thanks in advance and be safe!
Hi Steinar, thank you for the nice compliment! So sad to hear you were not able to paddle for some time due to ilness. Next week there is the annual Sea Kayak Training Camp in Croatia (one place went open due to cancellation). We will most likely organise one in spring. Best is to keep an eye out on the website or Facebook page of SPIRIT of KORKYRA. They are the ones hosting the event. Will share website below so you can read all relevant information. All the best, and hopefully we meet in the future!!😊👌
spiritofkorkyra.com/sea-kayak-training-camp/
Thank you Dimitri. Due to the short time before the camp, I cannot participate this time. I will however for sure be there next time so please keep me informed. I assume my wife, as s non paddler, can be there and enjoy the weather?
@@SKgeostrat understandable, and would be great to have you joining next time. Best is to send an email to Spirit of Korkyra (see details website), they will keep you in the loop and you can even reserve your place in advance. Or keep an eye out on their Facebook page. OK for the misses, we had someone bringing her partner with her previous edition. Cheers!👍
@@Northseakayak OK. In the meantime I need to rênes some of my stuff. Can you recommend à good online shop for gear?
Fantástico!Sueño con poder dominar las técnicas como Ud!
Cheers Jose! Keep on training! All the best!🌊👌😊
One of those boats is a Delphin. I surf one of those and I love it. It has spent more time upside down than right side up. My problem is when I get dumped, the water snatches me out of the boat every time. I have no chance to attempt a proper roll. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Tommy! That is weird indeed. Do you use the Delphin 155 or 150? Make sure the kayak isn't too big for you. That is a common mistake: people buy a bigger kayak for the wrong reason of having more space to pack their stuff. Secondly, if everything adjusted well enough (footpegs, backrest,...)?
Hi Dimitri.
Absolutely brilliant video in some lumpy sea!! You both just make it look so simple 😄
My question is in regards to your clothing . Can you run through what you wore on that day .
Thanks
Tom.
Hello Tom, Thanks, it was a great trip and we probably will go back in the future. Regarding clothing: everything we are wearing is TYPHOON. Regatta II neoprene boots, rash vest, 2-3mm Storm LongJohn, same for the neoprene sweater (which is great). Think there will be an update/improvement in the newest catalogue, better have a look at the TYPHOON website for that. Cheers!😊👌
@@Northseakayak
Hi agen Dimitri.
Thanks for that as dressing for a sea kayak is new for me I'd like to get the right combination right for now!! For now I have a one piece 3mm wet suit it's fine for now and is a good snug fit gull dive booties neoprene gloves if needed and a hat ... come next summer im thinking of a long john wet suit like what u have and a rash vest for the fine days where water is calm and sun is warm !! The neoprene top sounds like a great job when it cools down it can be doned when its warm it can be removed ... I dont want to make the big investment of a dry suit just yet!!
Très belle vidéo
Thank you Lio!!
@@Northseakayak can you tell me which model is idéal for a beginner ?,, virgo or Léo
@@breizhvttae29470 both of them are! But Virgo will be a bit more playfull.
@@Northseakayak i bought à virgo yestersay
Congratulations with the new ship @@breizhvttae29470!! Which color did you choose?
Hi Dimitri, how do you mount your GoPro on your Delphin and Scorpio? I find the roughened surfaces tricky for attaching anything on
Hello Ian, We use the GoPro Surf Mount, bigger adhesive mount than the normal one that is mostly delivered with your GoPro.
Amazing video 👏. What is that round black thing you both have on your right shoulder ? A can beer holder ?
Thank you!! We certainly want to go back there in the future! The back neoprene pouch contains a powerfull, electronic distress flare: ruclips.net/video/sGsCdR8S51s/видео.html
👍✌️
Great video
Is this possible with inflatable kayak? Itiwit X500?
Thank you! I would not do this with such a kayak, sharp rocks and inflatables don't match. Also that type of kayak is not made to paddle and manouvre through waves and tide races. Have fun and be safe out there!😊👌
Thanks for sharing ! Are you still in Bretagne ?
Veronique
Hello Veronique! You're welcome, glad you enjoyed the video! Unfortunatly we are back home! Are you from Bretagne? Are we connected via Facebook/Instagram? Also a sea kayaker? Cheers!😊👌
Hello !
Yes I am from Bretagne, not far from Bréhat, and a kayaker too.
I learn a lot by looking at your videos. Such quality.
Hope to see you one day.
Hugs from France 😊!
Oh and by the way, do you speak French ?
Have a nice day.
Veronique 😊
@@veroniqueperez8538 aah, to bad we couldn't met you there. Maybe next time! We normally speak Dutch, but English goes smooth. We do understand a bit of French. Big hugs from the Belgian West Coast!!🤗😊
Nice.
Cheers Alex!😊👌
Way beyond my meagre capabilities, but very nice to look at.
Thank you!😊👌
Why do you think this happened?
Dump wave because it becomes too shallow that close to shore. You cannot surf such a wave because it collapses and releases a lot of energy at once. But hey, it is all about learning. The kayaker that never capsizes isn't pushing his limits. As long as you don't get hurt!🌊😁
du cool - !
but I'll stick to my swamp thankyou (-!
Haha, thank you! Swamps are fun too, nothing wrong about! Have fun out there!😊👌
I would be fined for leaving plastic shavings everywhere.
😁👌
