Hi Lamai is my favourite place in Samui and where I used to live and it's beautiful as you say many restaurants and bars. I just wish they would tear down the derelict hotels along the beach front as they are an eyesore and not a good look for promoting tourism to the town.
      Cheers

Samui has a bit of everything for both tourists and expats.

Yes in the low season you will save a lot of money and everywhere is much less crowded and much less crazy traffic.
      Safe travels

Hi Ged was sad to see the derelict buildings and the neglected beach at Lamai near the 99. As you walked further along it seemed to improve. Were there any hotels/accommodation you could name on a better area of Lamai beach?
Any recommendations for areas to visit would be appreciated. Don't mind what type of accommodation as long as it has air con and a pool near the centre/beach.
I am also looking to move to Thailand and have been visiting different areas. Next on my list was Samui - Lamai and then Hua Hin. Ideally I want somewhere that has a main town, shopping mall, good hospitals and nice beaches. Just back from Koh Chang which I loved but probably not developed enough and Pattaya/Pratumnack is a bit too busy plus the sea too polluted to swim in. Looking to rent a house rather than a condo when we finally settle as we have pets, Budget around 20 - 30,000 baht a month. The search continues!

Hi Carol. Yes, it's quite sad as there are more deserted and derelict properties further along the beach.
I usually stay in the Lamai 99 if the price is right or Three Trees which is a little way out of town but has its own private beach a good restaurant, a swimming pool and free kayaks for guests. Another place I sometimes stay is Aumpie Luxury Resort which is not on the beach but in the centre of town and just a few minutes walk to Lamai Beach.
If you are considering moving to Thailand Hua Hin is well worth a look as it is not too big a city and has good beaches in the surrounding areas, two large shopping malls and plenty of entertainment options. It is also good if you intend to travel around Thailand as it's in the middle of Thailand whereas places like Phuket and Samui are way down south.
      Good luck with your search
      Cheers
      Ged

@@thailandmyland...retiringd2351 thanks for the advice Ged forgot to ask which are the main letting companies that I can view online for Samui and Hua Hin ?

Hi, Carol I never use a letting agent I have always looked for myself on websites. The two best ones in my opinion are Baht and Sold and Facebook Marketplace. I have attached links below for Hua Hin. For Samui just change the search from Hua Hin to Koh Samui.
      I hope that this helps
