- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is here--for nearly four months now; how time flies--and yet we still aren't done speculating about the roster! With the Fighter Pass in development now, and only one of its characters accounted for, there's still a lot to cover when it comes to figuring out who might still join the fight!
For this second part, we're going to talk about everyone's favorite topic: guest fighters! There's a wide range of third party figures that people are hoping to see join the fight someday, and I want to discuss a handful that I think are worth keeping an eye on for the coming year. We saw with Smash 4 how difficult DLC newcomers can be to predict, so I hesitate to say anyone is a lock, but there're several characters worth talking about nonetheless. So, let's see who might have a chance.

Honestly, I forget Crash exists half the time.
I was also thinking about Doom Guy. And, to be honest, if Marshmallow Samurai was picking characters based on their soundtracks, I feel like the Doom Slayer would be one of the top contenders.

I've seen people wanting a whole DLC pass for assist trophies, but please God no. If anything they could do one or two but not an entire DLC pass.

I'm down with this idea for two reasons. One, the fact that some assist trophies can airdodge, and be launched/KO'd makes it seem plausible they could be upgraded to potential fighters. And two, aside from finally be able to play as my most wanted character, I genuinely want to see everyone's reaction if it actually happens.

Ignoring the "possibility" of it at the moment, what do you think of the concept of Phoenix Wright as a Smash character? Does he have the qualifications to be a Smash fighter? I mean, I see you already mentioned him slightly at the end, but I'd just like to hear your input.
I don't know, honestly. I haven't played any Ace Attorney games, so I'm not a good person to ask. I only make concepts for characters if I feel familiar enough with them.
Delzethin well it’s an awesome series, pick it up when you got time, also, phoenix Wright was really cool in mvc3u and I think his move set would work better in smash

I'm dying to see another Challenger Approaching video. Your idea for Banjo having a collection gimmick in order to keep up his ammo sounds interesting.
Did he say in oder to keep up his anmo? I though he mentioned it just in general. Anyways, this reminds me on the coins Mario collects with his UP-B and K. Rool having to collect his crown when he lost it.

I wouldn't like that idea. It honestly just sounds annoying and intrusive on his gameplay style. I don't think it'd work. They should just focus his moveset on the "teamwork" between Banjo and Kazooie. It would be funny to see their animations show the two characters conflicting with each other. (Such as Banjo looking surprised when Kazooie flips him over to do a beak buster, for example.)

I think you're overestimating the Tales Series. I wouldn't count out Lloyd, but I wouldn't rank him as a frontrunner either.

@@olaf8778 but Shulk is first party (well second party, but still nintendo published). Bringing up Shulk really isn't appropriate for a discussion involving third party guest characters. Like he mentioned in the video, guest characters should be iconic in some way. The only reason why I know Lloyd exists is because of SSF2. His series isn't very big.
Yeah I felt like someone from Tekken is more likely, as mechanics from Smash 4 came from Tekken itself, rage being an example. Plus Tekken is Bandai Namco biggest icon in this era of gaming. Sadly itll be Heihachi, though I would love King

I feel like most of the choices here are pretty good picks, but idk about Dragonborn. I feel like he's gonna miss the boat considering the new Elder Scrolls is going to be out in a year or 2, and Skyrim is an older game. I feel like Bethesda would prioritize Doom Slayer or a Fallout character over Dragonborn, and that's if Bethesda even gets a character.
It will be much longer than two years before ES6 is out. Bethesda games tend to have long dev cycles, and Starfield is coming out before ES6. We'll probably get Starfield in the next couple of years, and then ES6 closer to the mid 2020's. Skyrim is also their most iconic game. Even random people that have never touched a game in their lives have at least heard of it.

1. A different Bethesda character seems more likely
2. Bethesda might not even get a character in the first place, due to it being a western studio

@@MManiaZone DoomGuy/Slayer is older, more notifiable. He's his own character while Dragonborn is far, far to customizable and new. DOOM is the granddaddy of the FPS genera. His movepool has more potential to be unique with lasers, guns, chainsaw and explosives. He also feels like he belongs in what Smash has kinda become, A Celebration of the History of Video Games.
While DOOM is older, by no means does that make it "better", or "more deserving". Nothing's ever been said by Nintendo, nor Sakurai that customizable characters can't make it in. We've had many, in fact, and speaking of "new", we've also had much newer characters make it in. Joker, anyone?
Also, both characters have potential for unique move sets, but don't put down something you don't know. You act like Dragonborn only carries a few blades. If anything, I'm willing to bet they have even more moveset potential than Doom Guy. If we're talking iconic, Dragonborn definitely has a more distinguished and recognizable look than Doom Guy, and The Elder Scrolls would perfectly fit in with a celebration of video games.

@@IEatCreeper agreed, I believe Sakurai is enough of a wizard to somehow make it work, but the level of brutality would just better fit in MK. Plus while Doom has it's history Elderscrolls is Bethesdas signature game.
I agree with KitCloud1. No offense to, say, Joker, but having DOOM before Elder Scrolls is like having Persona before Sonic.

I appreciate how a number of times, the video says to hype responsibly, and makes plenty of good points about not always setting expectations too high and gate keeping on other peoples' hyped characters. It's why I appreciate Delzethin's speculation a great deal and consider his perspective to be a fair and well rationalized one.

His recovery better be ender pearls. Or maybe elytra + fireworks? Ender pearls as a means to escape falling off the map have been a staple in Minecraft skywars for like 6 years but elytra+fireworks might work better as an up b. Either way enderpearls need to be part of his moveset.

Glad you talked about Lloyd. He's without a doubt one of if not the most likely character to get in.
Also speaking of which one other possible stage could be the World Tree/Yggdrasil Tree as it appeared in Tales of Phantasia seeing as Symphonia is an unrelated prequel.

@@yogurt39748 I wouldn't say for sure. I love steve and minecraft to death, but definitely not confirmed by any means. He's a likely candidate, but not much evidence to go his way. Best chance he has are coming up with the 10th anniversary and E3. If he doesn't show up wait for Minecon Earth. If he ain't there, his chances are low.
LOL when he was mentioning Capcom I thought he was gonna say Phoenix Wright. Bruh, I got shivers almost thinking that he gonna say someone I wanted.
For the Capcom Rep, it's definitely gonna be him or Lloyd but Phoenix has a better chance. (He's my want as well, so it's a bit biased lol)
So, watching this further down the line, it's interesting to see what was called, and what might yet still be called.
Erdrick was a frontrunner, and we got Hero. Banjo & Kazooie were plausibles, and they we got them.
Terry was on nobody's radar. Even as one of my favorite characters, even I would have put him in the "wildest of dreams" category. I'm so happy I was wrong.
But who will the 5th be? Will they be on this list?
Just one thought on Banjo Kazooie:
If they really wanted to up the ante for fan service when it comes to a stage, I think they would need the stage to share a...sort of...similar gimmick to Wario's. Everyone from Banjo Kazooie loves the random quiz to test knowledge. They could have a stage feature where gruntilda appears to ask a quirky smash related question the likes of "this move belongs to which character?" or "Which series does this character come from" topped with some obviously wrong answers or even inside jokes like "who is the hero in Legend of Zelda?" and players have to strike the right answer on screen to avoid gruntilda's wrath.
Considering that Sakurai said that Nintendo was choosing characters instead of him, and Nintendo collaborated with Activision on Skylanders Trap Team (I think that was the game), I think you're underestimating Crash's chances of joining Smash. I'd give Crash a plausible rating, at least.

Actually, Sakurai wanted to put Geno in "Super Smash Bros Brawl," he said that in one of his Smash columns (there was also a remix of "Beware of the Forest's Mushrooms" found in the files of Brawl). However, Square Enix said no on allowing Geno in Smash.
And people still wonder why Sakurai couldn't get a playable Geno in Ultimate. Good God, these people are stupid.

I feel like, at least for another season of DLC if not this one (seeing as you didn’t hold Joker against Tails & Eggman, unless I missed something), Arle Nadja from Puyo Puyo and Madou Monogatari is a serious candidate for Ultimate.
I was hoping for Arle after playing Puyo Puyo Tetris, though with Joker filling in for a Sega Representative, my hopes are a bit diminished. Still have hope though.

One character who I genuinely think could have a shot that I don’t really hear people talk about is Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. The only things I really see that could hold him back are whether or not Nether Realm is on Sakurai’s radar and if the Smash team could find a way to tone down the absurd gore in his home series while still making Scorpion feel like Scorpion. I’d be interested to hear your take on this one

I'm getting increasingly more into Elder Scrolls. As a new fan, I think it would have deserved representation(Morrowind was apparently fucking huge back in 2002, really raising the bar for games), but I'm not sure how it'd work. How could they make The Dragonborn unique in a good, non boring way? Maybe they could work destruction magic info his moveset. Alteration or conjuration, maybe?
@@TheAbsol7448 Mostly through magic and shouts imo. Say his shouts are his specials, they're all really really good, but you can only use one per 5, 10, or 15 seconds depending on how long you charge it. And say Dragon Aspect is a shout with a 20 second buff at level 3, and it makes the shouts used in that 5 second recharge range super powerful. He really could be one of the more unique fighters in the game with the amount of variety Elder Scrolls have with how you play it. Heavy weapons for smash attacks, throws based on the kill animations, tilts being sword, dagger, or an axe, and aerials being based off magic would make for a super unique fighter plus the shouts thing.
@@koark9074 I'd imagine shouts charging just like Cloud's limit break. Maybe they could do something interesting with his dagger? I dunno. The skill tree might also be good to implement in some way. They could throw a few perks in there.

Do you think we'll get a Season 2 DLC pass? Also, I'd love to see a video where you cover assist trophies being playable.
Right now, I'm leaning 60-40 toward a second season happening. I think the placeholder spots put in the base game's data (whereas Smash 4 just added placeholders as they went along), plus the 16 spots set aside within World of Light itself (one of them used by Piranha Plant now) gives us reason to believe they're at least _open_ to the idea of additional waves.
Forget it. 6 DLC fighters are all we're getting and considering what we already have, it's more than enough.
And Assist Trophies playable? You're insane.

My Hail-Mary prediction remains to be Doom Slayer. Iconic character from an iconic series that defined first person shooters, incredible moveset potential, and Bethesda/ID Software have been working really well with Nintendo as of late. Not to mention Doom Eternal coming to Switch this year. Violence shouldn’t be an issue, seeing as Bayonetta was toned down quite a bit, and you can still make a brutal moveset without the gore.
As for what video you should do next, Id love to hear your thoughts on Assist Trophies making the jump to playable. With how loud the outrage was over Waluigi, and very popular characters making it as Assist Trophies like Krystal and Isaac, I think there’s a fair chance.
What you said about Doomguy could also be said about Scorpion. Toning down violence but still be brutal.
Comparing Doom's violence and Bayo's violence is like comparing an Elephant to an Ant. Doom's is more graphic, while Bayo's is more, let's say, "cartoony".

I have to say first, that I am a big fan of the Monster Hunter Series and I'd love to see a "Monster Hunter" in Smash Ultimate. But I'm not sure if they would really put him in, since only one weapon would be a bit underwhelming and all of the weapons a bit too much. You gotta think that you have to make several new moves for every weapon (except moves where the Hunter uses a potion or maybe another item of course). But one thing I nobody see talk about is that what if they don't onclude a Hunter but a Monster from the Series. Maybe one that is not that big and remember, Ridley got in aswell even though he originally is too big. I thought Brachydios would fit this role pretty dang good since he isn't that big, he is a fan favorite among the community and he is the only monster to get really up personal in the fight using his fists to punch you. Since Brachydios has access to the slime mold on his fists and horn aswell, that could be a new aspect of the game and really unique in the Smash Ultimate roster. For his special attacks he could maybe use big horn explosion which he uses while he is enraged or he could use his big leap to cover distance between you and the enemy. I think it would be a really cool character and surprise a lot of the Monster Hunter fans and non-fans. What do you guys think? Lemme know ^^

Its Sure that DLCs are gonna be ALL 3rd Parties, it makes the more sense.
DLCs are meant to sell A LOT, even outside of the Smash Fanbase, because People can be so impulsive to buy a Switch and Smash just because its Favorite Characters is a DLC (?)
Lets see that Most DLCs in Smash 4 were 3rd Parties, without conting Veterans or Corrin, and those 3rd Parties had a Stage and Music from them, while the Veterans and Corrin dont.
And with the Fighter Pass Conditions of a Stage and Music with the Fighter, it heavily implies they are all gonna be New Franchises, mostly 3rd Parties, because virtually all Nintendo Franchise already are represented as Fighters or AT, and the few ones that doesnt, honestly, are too obscure or irelevant for a PAID DLC.
Edit: I hope you considered Agumon as "Conditional DLC", thats my only posible Most Wanted for DLC
Agreed. I'm all for the sentiment of hyping responsibly, and I'm personally trying to get used to as many potential characters as possible, including 1st parties to not be super disappointed, but you're right the franchises that are in don't have a lot left to offer in music/stages. Most of what's left is as conditional as these 3rd parties: Xenoblade X music removed for DLC, a New Paper Mario game in the near future, are Fire Emblem and Pokémon REALLY far enough along to get more DLC, does Nintendo really care enough about Rhythm heaven to pick that over Rayman?

@@zeldrio6079 only inside its Fandom, But not Worldwide, the point is they sell even outside of Nintendo Fandom, and Most candidates like Bandana Dee, Dixie Kong, Porky, ... only hardcore fans of their Games would buy it.
Literally, why would i pay for a irelevant Secondary character if the Mascot/Protagonist people care more about is already in with already a lot of Music and Stages?

I wanted Lloyd back in Smash 4 but sadly didn't get in but it would be nice if he were to make it in Ultimate. Although they may choose Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia since they say that Yuri is the most popular Tales character or whatnot but i really don't care anymore as long any Tales representative gets in i would be fine with that. Then again i wouldn't also mind Klonoa as the next Namco rep.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention the Feyline/Palico mascot characters as a potential Monster Hunter Rep as an alternative to a Monster Hunter avatar. There are a lot of solid reasons these guys could be a better, more likely rep choice.
Also, I'm curious to what you'd think Erdrick would look like in smash. I'm hopeful that they'd go with a design based around the 'kid goku' looking artwork.

You're not alone. He has such great moveset potential and sold so much his recognition and popularity has risen a great deal since Smash 4. I really don't know whether I want banjo/Kazooie or steve more at this point. It's honestly the only case where I'm actively hoping there's another pass where we could get one than the other.

Solid vid Del! I admit that last character mentioned caught me by surprise but all things consider it can work well enough. Though regarding Lloyd Irving. The release of Tales of Vesperia Definitive on Switch (and other platforms) has gotten people into a (thankfully civil) debate of "Lloyd vs. Yuri". I think I have an idea as to what the answer will be. But assuming typically doesn't lead to anywhere good so I'll ask anyway. What do you think that whole debacle involving Yuri?
As for the potential future vids you mentioned at the end. I'm interested in the Assist Trophy promotions in particular mainly because of that apparent thing on how Alucard can't be summoned on Fountain of Dreams. Something to do with his reflection if I recall? In any case. If specific summons can be turned off in situations like that does that mean characters like Isaac or Shovel Knight could become playable and those summons would just turn off if they're in a match? Personally I have my doubts, but it makes you think you know?
I think Yuri does have a chance now, with the Vesperia remaster making it to the Switch, but I also think Lloyd has the better chance. It's more a hunch than anything, though, admittedly.
And I hadn't actually considered the way they turn off certain summons on certain stages. I still don't think we can trust that summons/new costumes are newcomer options yet, but that does present one possible way they could apply a workaround.
More than likely, 2nd and 3rd party characters are DLC, not 1st party. What are they going to add to the DLC spirit board?

Thank you for pointing out that all the costumes that were removed were third-party, I was wondering why certain costumes weren't back in Ultimate, and it makes sense that Sakurai couldn't secure certain characters as Mii Costumes for Ultimate's launch, to me at least.
Well it was leaked that we'd be getting DLC Costumes on the website. Wouldnt be surprised if that's what they're being saved for.

My best guess for a new third party character is Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden. Considering how Koei Techmo has been making Warriors Games based on Nintendo Games recently, it would make that the two would have a fairly close friendship of sorts. Ninja Gaiden is infamous as one of the most difficult NES games, and Hayabusa's Modern titles have also shown up on Nintendo Systems.
His moveset could take from both the NES classic and the Modern titles, with Weapons and Ninpo from every game. He could even take a few moves from his appearances in Dead or Alive!
No idea for a stage though. The place with the birds? I don't know.

Down B: jumps on the spinning umbrella and moves side to side
(kinda like the final stage of sally stageplay)
Up B: hands blast the floor and propels him up
Side A: shoots his hand out like a rocket
Side B: stuns opponents with inspirit
A: regular punches and stabs with umbrella
Side A: he poses and launches 3 heat seeking umbrellas
Down smash: minochi and mochismo appear next to him and slams anyone near him
Side smash : (go nuts)
Up smash: (Go nuts)
B: puts out his umbrella and picks 1 out of 3 elemental attacks /a fire ball that falls from the sky and does slight damage over time/ wind that pushes back players/ and ice appears from the ground (these all do small damage)
Final Smash: he turns big and whips his hair 3 times whoever gets stuck they appear on the Kai-buki theater (they look confused like falcon’s final) then the soultamate text appears and blossoms and wind thrash and whip them

Ok so hear me out....I would love to see Cuphead in smash! For his design he would be a 2D fighter akin to Mr.Game and Watch and assuming he’d want him to be like his game I could see them going crazy and drawing each frame and then doing them fully. His theme could be 2D Classics. Basically going absolutely nuts on the old timey cartoon aspect and moves that aren’t exactly from his moves in the game are based on his rubberhose origins like a slight stretch to his limbs and stuff. I could see his stage either being King Dice’s Casino being like it is in game where the stage morphs to allow you to fight many mini bosses including king dice himself, or just a stage that goes through many infamous bosses...I kinda hope it happens since he’d stand out a ton
TLord I fully believe cuphead will be announced as the next doc character. Not only does Microsoft have a good relationship with Nintendo but cuphead literally just got announced for the switch. It seems really likely

Spirits aren't definitely deconfirmations. It's not an official rule, it's a fan made one.
I know this is never going to happen since Young Link is OOT link but, I'd love Majora's Mask Link. MM Link wouldn't use arrows, boomerang and bombs like the other Links, but he xouls use his mask like using The Zora mask for a boomerang like move for side b and neutral b would be Deku Link's bubble and maybe Goron Link's roll as a down b that works close to the same as sonic spin dash. Then again, his moveset could work like pokemon trainer and have each mask be an entirely new character. That would be a little op though if he was like OOT link.

Gunvolt or Copen is a possible option for smash because of the game coming to the switch around summer as well as the gunvolt serie’s heavy ties to Nintendo. Gunvolt also is one of the biggest indie games that hasn’t been deconfirmed yet
Just imagine Phil and Sakurai getting on stage together at E3 2019 announcing Banjo & Kazooie for smash, right after they announced a port of Banjo kazooie/tooie for the Switch.
BANJOOOOOOOO, please Sakurai, bring the Bear & Bird home! Please restore their glory from the pit that was... the spinoff... Also, Kazooie is able to run at top speed with Banjo (who is realistically 3 times her weight) ON HER BACK. Kazooie is clearly the stronger of the two, at least as far as leg strength goes. Banjo skipped leg day.

1st parties are directly owned by Nintendo. 2nd parties are owned by companies Nintendo has enough shares in to be a controlling interest like gamefreak/thePokemonCompany or Hal. 3rd parties are companies not at all related to Nintendo from a share holders/ownership perspective like basically every company in the figthers pass so far.
