If there's one thing I'd like to see in the next Smash? Character interaction. We have all these characters from all these different fictional worlds yet they never say anything to each other, and outside of Subspace Emissary never acknowledged each other except as 'opponents to defeat'. It would be a lot of work to handle well but could give a reboot a lot more identity. Multiverses already proved with its in-battle banter that this can work, all that game needed was to let players tweak the frequency of the banter.
@@MiraoaoLucina says something if you use her to beat Ike and/or Marth Female/Male Robin both say something different depending on who you use to beat Lucina Fox and Falco also have things to say about each other depending on who you use to beat the other with And I think Wolf says something if you use him to beat Fox and/or Falco
Specific interactions pe-, mid- and post-match would be cool, but personally I think interactions in the story mode would be even awesomer. Imagine the heroes split of into teams and we see Bowser, Rool and Dedede form a dream team foe example. The story could be so funny and wholesome :o
@@Miraoao Speaking of Palutena Please give me some new Kid Icarus characters in the next Smash game Give Hades Medusa Magnus Viridi Phosphora The Eggplant Wizard Ect.....................................................
Multiversus is one thing, but outside of RPGs Nintendo is pretty shy with voices. Sure Ike talking to Sonic would be cool but, imagine Link and Cloud, or Jigglypuff and Samus. Riveting. Silent animation interactions like in Brawl is the only way this could really be pulled off.
I think the best part about this? Is that Sakurai DEFINITELY understands this needs to happen. The idea of 'Everyone is here' only works once so having a reboot would be the most beneficial for the health of the series.
@@zekerolando5140 He does go on to say that he can't imagine Smash without him. But even if it's without him this is what would need to happen for Smash to have staying power
@@cragl3yman343no it wouldn’t. If they hadn’t removed anyone from either of the previous games, would that force them to do it now? No. Sure everyone is here only works AS A MARKETING GIMMICK once, but as long as the next smash game uses the same engine they can just copy over ultimate with no changes, thus keeping everything, and then add more on top of it. Thus resulting in everyone being here instantly, Your logic would mean that we can’t have ryu in the next street fighter because he has been in all the already released games
@@algotkristoffersson15 But they have? Brawl to Smash 4 they removed tons of characters. Melee to Brawl they removed characters too. I don't expect the roster to be tiny but like A reboot and rework of characters just feels necessary at this point
I think your reboot roster is mostly pretty solid, but not having Diddy Kong and/or Meta Knight seems incredibly unrealistic to me. About the latter, even though I'm a massive Bandana Dee supporter, I don't see a world where he gets in over Meta Knight whatsoever.
Yeah, I love Meta Knight, Bandana Dee, Diddy, and K Rool. But I can’t see those veterans being cut. It could happen but it’s unlikely to me. I hope K Rool would return and that Bandana Dee would be added
I would agree with Meta Knight not being cut from the roster. I'm a MK main myself, but even I have some standards. Meta Knight not being in the base roster for the next game is a big concern.
@Robbielock522 What does that have to do with anything? Diddy the artist has no relation to Diddy Kong the character. Diddy Kong has existed before Diddy got his name. That's like saying Mario couldn't be used anymore because a controversial politician, also named Mario, got outed as a pedophile. There's no relation.
After the Ultimate crossover that was Ultimate, a reboot would likely be somewhat necessary to make a hypothetical Smash 6 stand out among the other titles in the series. Excellent video!
And we'd lose so many interesting characters that make matchups and gameplay more fun, that's like throwing away a child's entire toy collection and giving them less toys but with more functions, who cares if Mario is faithful now if we had to axe so many completed characters for it You don't need a reboot to continue Smash after Ultimate, there's still plenty of franchises that haven't seen their modern updates (like Kirby or Sonic) and a reboot is just gonna throw all the already available hd assets to the bin if it's gonna have a new engine or whatever, I'd rather have the next game salvage as much as possible given so much stuff like the stages or everything surrounding it is already completed for hd use
@@kirbyofthestarsfan yeah but that was also literally the idea of Ultimate’s project plan - salvage and compile everything from smash history into the ultimate culmination of everything that’s come before. If the smash series is ever going to truly evolve, I think a scaling back is definitely needed. Plus, for as great as ultimate was, certain things felt very missing. It’s always exciting seeing a full new stage list, all the trophies, and the plethora of side modes available. Ultimate was lacking that stuff, and yeah it was cool to see characters and stages return after so long, let that be Ultimate’s thing - the final chapter of the first book of Smash Bros. This next game should be the beginning of the next volume, scaling the roster size back (giving some long needed overhauls to some existing characters), and focusing on a full comprehensive experience that could function as a new start for the series to build off of going forward
@@kirbyofthestarsfan>Losing so many interesting characters You act like you can’t stick with Ultimate even if whatever game comes next happens to not have your favorite character. People still play 64, Melee and Brawl and maybe Smash 4?
Smash 6 would have a hard time following up Ultimate which included everyone. Although I’m predicting that the “Divine Dragon” Alear from FE engage is gonna be a newcomer for that game.
@@erickmaverick3128 This was longer than I thought it be, but here it goes: Give them more run speed, (but not like Bowser at least faster than Villager but prefer on par with Zelda), change dash animation to the mage dash in the FE Warriors series, I prefer the Three Hopes one, change his stance to his idle one from Awakening. I don't like the Smash one, makes them look like a joke character. It looks way too clustered and clumsy for someone who is seen as a powerful front lines fighter and tactician in-universe and in some instances like Warriors and the mobile game, they have telekinesis. I'd either let the Bronze Sword and a Tome float close by Robin and let them smoothly and quickly float to their hand whenever an attack is called or let them (and in tumble, they stay on different sides accordingly depending on animation until fall where they hit the ground and stay until Robin is conscious again), let them warp to the user, or just have them hidden in their big sleeves (with Robin's Jab 1 and how forceful they raise his arms in tilt animation, let the Bronze Sword quickly slip out as a reference that he can learn assassin techniques too) as it justifies the motion. Whichever is easier to animate. Just get the weapons out of his hands. I'd keep the durability system and reduce Tome (bar Nosferatu) and Levin Sword limit (only if it connects but can't use Levin Nair anymore) and make the Tomes and Levin take a few seconds longer to come back and lets Robin on swordplay too as canonically their skill lets them keep up with Chrom and Lucina in battle, all just to balance out the mobility buff and continue to experiment with them as time goes if need for more buffs or nerfs. Also, I change the UI from that bar meter to a small fraction so it's harder for foes to look at your art to see what you have.
@@highlandave8507Lucario was kinda like some of the Smash DLC we see now, even back in Brawl with the whole “getting rewarded for getting your ass kicked” I never liked that about Lucario, always seemed counterintuitive since he’s very weak if your damage is low and that makes him not fun to play.
The transparency with the DLC is probably one of the best ideas I’ve heard in regards to solving the problem! Yes, some people will still be angry just on principle of us not getting big third parties every time, and even more will simply just not feel excited and want to just skip to the third parties, but hey, I’ll take ambivalence and grumbling over explosive overreactions.
It’ll likely never happen. Simply because the buzz generates excitement, and also FOMO to buy the pass early, because you have less info who’s joining. People being stupid doesn’t really hurt them as they’re still going to buy the content anyway. It just keeps the series (and Nintendo) in the spotlight on social media.
I really wanted a playable monster hunter. But capcom was just being dumb about it, claiming it took the focus away from the monsters. Your game is called monster HUNTER capcom. Also snake should have fought Rathalos instead of the robot to reference peace walker.
It’s working terrifically with Street Fighter 6 as they announced their entire line of up DLC fighters which maintained and boosted their player numbers that has them as the biggest fighting game at the moment.
One idea that needs to be implemented in the next Smash should Miis return: Bring in the level of Mii customization that Miitopia gave us That would MORE than make up for any favorites being axed
I totally agree. Miitopia's customization had so much depth that miis have looked more accurate to who they were based than ever before. I think this would make the miis more fun in smash bros.
I'm still baffled that the Miis didn't have their movesets take from Miitopia. The Warrior, Chef, and Thief could've all been consolidated into Swordfighter for specials or different stat baselines for it. The Mage, Cleric, and Scientist (or Elf) for Gunner. And they could go unique for Brawler or trim it out to have 4 baselines to a melee character and ranged character since in base Ultimate Mii Swordfighter was worthless anyway.
My hope for a reboot would be to go hard on the interactions and single-player stuff. In fact I would want them to go for a focus on crossing over important Nintendo franchises (Mario, Pokémon, Zelda, Kirby, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Metroid, Pikmin, Bayonetta) with franchises it would be awesome to see them colliding with. Imagine having the worlds actually colliding to give us some swanky crossover stages. Mario and Sonic, Metroid and Castlevania, Xenoblade and Final Fantasy all seem really good for crossover material... - but how about Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, Pokémon and Digimon, or Zelda and Dark Souls? My major concern with your roster is that I don't see Konami stuff happening again; and I really don't see Bayonetta being cut when they have to negotiate for Sonic anyway.
@@Squiferz Any Nintendo X Third-Party collisions you'd want to see a focus on? (Admittedly my idea for DLC is a bit weird, because I'd go for three slots per pass - but each slot would be a rivalry where neither franchise was Nintendo-published; like Ryu and Terry coming together. Also lets you squeeze in Ken as an echo without raising too many eyebrows because Ken and Terry are also sorta the crossover people want...)
Konami stuff has a decent chance of returning. The recent MGS collection had a switch release, The Castlevania anniversary collection is on the switch, Bomberman and other games like that new rhythm game published by the company are on the switch, and Konami was willing to lend out their IP with the Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells.
I love hearing these fresh opinions rather than just another “make the next smash game an updated port”. I want to experience something new. Give me new mechanics, elemental damage, air grabs, modes, remade veterans. I’m so excited for the new.
@@brandonwilliams6119not a fan of chargeable tilts, it’d make the feedback on them not as good, both in gameplay and in feel. Besides, it’s redundant w smash attacks
Why couldn't Nintendo give us both? They could update Ultimate for 20 yrs & not outrun the fan support (Melee still holding tournaments), all while giving us a complete Smash reboot
Please do not give elemental damage. They did it once and it was the worst thing ever. I promise you WILL hate it. Personally I’d want there to be more actual tech in the next game, and if they don’t feel like doing that then I’d at least be okay with making the movement more fluid in general. Cause ultimate feels very stiff even compared to it’s predecessors. They don’t gotta bring back wave dashing (but it would be awesome) just make it more fun to move.
How about bringing back Smash Run, except this time you can play online and actually interact with other players on the game map. Multiple stages to play on would help too. I can imagine sinking a lot of time into a mode like that.
As a 3DS Smash Run fan myself I would love that to, but we got to make it work with this game. How Smash Run worked was genius. Everything you unlocked from new moves, trophies, new characters were all great and we could incorporate spirits into it
Custom colors would be impossible. The smash team needs to get permission for basically everything for every character, especially 3rd parties. If Sonic and Pac-Man can't be anything but their default colors. I don't think custom colors would ever fly.
@@algotkristoffersson15Even Nintendo probably wouldn’t want that with a number of their characters (and couldn’t with say, Pokemon). It would be pointless to develop a system that only applies to a chunk of characters. And depending how detailed you’d want it (Individual parts of a costume? Only changing a specific colour of their costume to one other colour?) it’d probably be easier to just make one new DLC costume per character.
For a compromise on the custom colors system, I think they could do the system featured in modern French Bread fighting games (which includes Melty Blood: Type Lumina and the upcoming Under Night In-Birth 2) where your color choices are limited to the existing pallets but you can mix and match the particular parts. For instance you might be able to make Mario have hat of one color palette, the overalls of another, and the shirt beneath it from yet another.
I agree with all this. Smash Ultimate is perfect way to end an era and set up for a reboot that can stand on it’s own with characters getting updated moves, voices, and better costumes. Let’s hope the team takes inspiration from some of the mods for the costumes. Excellent video!
I wouldn't have cut Palutena. She has a unique playstyle. It would feel weird seeing a new game without her and Pit together. Can definitely go without Dark Pit though. Also having Fox as the only Starfox rep feels wrong. I don't know but it just doesn't feel right. Having at least someone else would be nice. Like Krystal mabey because she has a different way of fighting besides with a pistol.
@@Miraoaoa alt like brawl how he actually came to even be a thing. or give him the style pit has in brawl. His new side b sucks anyways same with u b Then just give toon link the four swords and have clones come in for a few attacks. But then ice climbers
the ice climbers needs an comeback in dlc but with some updateds when you use just one ice climber and try to recovery condor well make apperence to help and you have to tap the button very quick
The rogue-like idea is very close to what I want from the next game. I basically just want something the length of Melee Adventure Mode filled with randomly selected sidescrolling stages based off of the franchises represented in the game, ending with a randomly selected boss battle! The other mode I'd love to see back is of course Smash Run. Give us 2 or 3 different maps for variation and allow all players to play in the same map instead of being separated. If you KO another player it gives you a chance to steal some of their stat boosts! I'd also like every character to have one unique skin that isn't a palette swap, and rather than selling Mii costumes give us additional unique character skins instead
Racing and Mario Party/Warioware- style mini games with themes from each game were always on my mind. Like, imagine the Blue Falcon racing Kirby on his star as they catch up to Sonic just running up Rainbow Road.
This is probably the most generously realistic and “respectful” approach to the smash reboot of seen. So many videos and posts I’ve seen and read before this all unfortunately reek of “I’m a Nintendo purist that hates jrpg’s, and pokemon doesn’t count as one.” As a big fan of franchises like Xenoblade and FE, this is incredibly frustrating because (especially in Xenoblade’s case) these are franchises that are really making a name for themselves and deserve to be recognized so that more people can experience them. I appreciate your take on it because it’s realistic with its cuts, giving respectful size to Mario and pokemon for good reason (despite my personal grievances with the latter, I agree with that conclusion), and allowing for newcomers for most if not all major franchises. Your take on dlc inclusions is also something I agree with a lot, allowing for less dev time and less licensing stress as well as allowing for previous veterans to return with little to no hassle
If they stick to a smaller number like for instance only limit it to the series being represented by the fighters (and Assist Trophies). They could go back to trophies, dolls or something more "solid" like the first few games
@@ddsjgvk Quite a lot. Trophies allow me to learn about franchises I never would’ve known existed otherwise. Thanks to that one time I looked at the Ray MK III spirit, I played Custom Robo, and plenty of people probably feel the same
It's hard for me to find the right words to say about this video essay, and a Smash reboot as a whole. There are plenty of ideas tossed around, and I think you presented a healthy mixture of ideas, even if I didn't agree with all of them. Everyone has their 'Dream Version' of what any Smash game could look like, roster or otherwise. But I think we can all agree on one thing: Smash is a celebration of gaming that can be enjoyed by anyone, whether they know a character and their franchise or not.
Something I’d like to see in Smash 6 would be proper character endings for Classic or Adventure Mode. The presentation would just be a slideshow with accompanying dialogue/narration text. Even if The Subspace Emissary is beyond the scope of a reboot, it’s just wasted potential to not have any character interactions in a crossover game.
I like the idea of cutting down the fire emblem roster and using the new protagonist to summon the cut fighters so they are still technically in the game.
i feel like it should be noted that getting everyone in smash history back was a huge load on sakarai for multiple reasons and with all the characters we have now will likely never happen again or at least to the same extent as ultimate
I think a nice addition could be a "traditional/arcade" mode, where the game could play like street fighter. Since ultimate has a parry, I think this direction would fit well. Reduced knockback, limited jumps and wider stages would be implemented but likely wouldn't be too much work.
So many of the older fighters desperately need a touch-up with more modern inclusions into their move set. A reboot that basically gave a lot of old roster members a DLC level of polish would be SO cool. Ganon’s the poster child for this. Remaking his moveset from the ground up would be so welcomed.
Marth and Sheik are pretty good to me. Would rather Marth’s clones be diversified from him, and maybe Sheik could have a single move or taunt replaced with a harp reference? Could see Fox remaining the same, ‘cause he’s the face of Melee and all. Mario, though? He’s got a ton of more modern references, and it would be cool to change a handle of moves. Like, his down-air should be a stomp. His neutral could be the spin instead. His grab could be throwing Cappy. His up-special should be changed to something more unique, in my opinion.
Deciding who and what is going to be in the next Smash is not easy, but it is interesting. I have been more willing towards a Smash reboot as of late, and have thrown a few ideas around myself. More notable Single Player content is one major point, and I think one way to do that would be to revamp Classic Mode a bit. In addition to Ultimate's character specific classic routes, you could add in a traditional, more random style of classic mode like Melee and Brawl, as well as constantly changing routes with specific conditions released over the internet. Speaking of internet, have a classic route maker! Let you create a challenging or unique route of your own, send it to the web, and take on other player's classic routes. You could even do the same with Event Matches! I also had an idea for All-Star, which would become mixed with Crazy Orders, allowing you to chose who you face each round, and letting you tap out early to face the final boss, which would probably be a mirror match. In terms of new characters, one frontrunner you didn't mention was Dante, since I feel like he'd probably be the K. Rool of this game, the character who was hyped to get in last game, but couldn't quite make the cut. Most of your First-Party newcomer picks seem likely, save for the two time-sensitive ones. I do feel most reboot rosters hang around the 50-60 character range, which I do worry might be a bit of a highball, since Ultimate had a bit more then that in it's starting roster (not counting Echoes), which was mostly returners.
If the game is going to be a reboot with significant changes (and not just “you can air grab now”), there’s no way we’re getting 50 to start with. Quite frankly, if Ultimate is seen as “too much” to continue from, 50 is too high to start. You add 10 fighters through DLC, then the next adds 5 to the base game so 65, with another 10 as DLC, 75. So in 2 games you’re already back to the same problem. There’s only two ways of fixing this, it has to be real low like 35 but they’re all reworked substantially, so you can go several games without rebooting again. Or, you pull a typical fighting game move… you keep a certain base amount, and just rotate fighters in/out each game. Say there’s 25 that always remain, with up to 60 (including DLC) as the max, but those 35 other fighters can be dropped and brought back during any game. It’s the only way to make sure your roster doesn’t balloon to impossible proportions.
I doubt that Dante, Raiden, Scorpion, or any other M-Rated game main characters will be added. We did get Bayonetta, but she's from a Nintendo published game
I would love a re-imagining of Super Smash Bros. as a more 3D fighter similar to Power Stone. I think they could really create some amazing arenas to fight in and you could still keep the recovery/ledge mechanic (you would just have to come up with some creative solutions for the camera) as every arena would be a floating island with a unique size, theme and stage interactions. This would obviously be a dramatic change from the formula, but I think it would be a good change to reimagine the series and separate it from the "ultimate" iteration.
Very glad you respected XC's growth. So many people blow the franchise off despite it's rapidly growing status and want to like cut Pyra and Mythra or even just leave them with Shulk alone. A few thoughts on the roster though. I feel like Lucina will likely be retained over Robin just because she's always the icon of Awakening. She could be made less of a clone by having her take over as the "Roy" of the swordies, being much more like Chrom is now. I also feel like Waluigi bloats the Mario roster a bit. That might sound silly given it's Mario, but you did slash Pokemon, the biggest franchise on the planet, down to 5 and Zelda down to 4. I do like Meowscarada as a pick if there isn't a new entry by then though. They really need another grass rep.
Many people respect the growth. Its only Smash bros fans that have seizures when a character has a weapon But will lose their shit over another variation of link, final fantasy characters somehow being the exception and that a outdate platformer mascot needs to return brcause nostalgia
@@rayminishi689Well, also it is a series driven in popularity still more heavily by the Japanese crowd. Meanwhile the western Smash fanbase seems to overlap with being a fan of jrpgs significantly less, while overlapping more with more having like n64 mascot nostalgia. I feel like people just expect another Xenoblade guy is coming just from going by the Fire Emblem pattern and not much more, Yeah Monolith keeps making Xenoblade game but thats Monolith, plus Noah is not half as popular as the Aegis.
@@brandonwilliams6119I actually am not that sure if there will be more Xenoblade games. The overall main story is kind of finished in a sense with the end of this trilogy. I don't think any of the XC3 cast has passed the Aegis in popularity, but XC3 as a game is very well liked. Also XC games don't come out as fast as FE games I feel like.
I know that Pythra is the same to keep character diversity, but I would REALLY want a total overhaul that ACTUALLY represents XC2 properly. It infinitely bugs me that Rex got Chrom-ed when the blade system and the relationship between him and the aegis is the core of XC2.
@@Azurald55 Still not a fan of that tbh. That's a Torna mechanic, not a base game thing, which is where Rex is from. He should be the main fighter while Pyra and Mythra are supports.
@@WildFox-h1u the battle system in Torna is just an expansion of what's in the base game. Throwing the blade the weapon so they can fight is shown in the base game through specials. You see it in cutscenes too. Rex throwing the sword in the beginning of a match is just like using a special in the base game. Adding him as part of their moveset is the best possible solution now without changing the moveset too much.
Well it would be tricky but you could try to have Rex and pythra on the same time. You know like how when mythra does her up special she has 2, depending on if you hold the special or tap it. Well if you tap the special it will be Rex’s driver arts and if you hold it’ll be the aegis blade arts. This’ll also make them very easy to hit but give them way more variety in moves and potential combos. This is my hope
As much as I appreciate more love for chad Rex, I don't think it's practical to expect him to be added at this point. The actual blade system would be a pretty complex thing to make work, especially trying to keep things like blade/driver combos as well. From a development perspective, there's also huge motivation to recycle things like Pyra and Mythra's models and moveset to simplify creation unless there's huge motivation to scrap them for Rex. I also think other than some rebalancing, Pyra and Mythra are very elegantly designed as a base roster character. Not tons of complex gimmicks, just a straightforward fighter that really makes the most of the simple swap mechanic.
As a monster hunter fan since the first game, I always thought the felyne companions would be the best candidate for a mh representative. They are so iconic to the series and could show off different monster armors as the colors
Capcom could also push for Resident Evil preferably Leon Kennedy, Smash still doesn’t have a Survival Horror Rep and Resident is very big and another of Capcom’s darlings.
haven’t the devs or something also gone on record discussing how much they hated a monster hunter being playable in mvc because it was against their wishes and behind their backs and they don’t like the “character” as a fighting game rep
I can genuinely live with a smaller roster with some of my favourites gone if it meant the roster we DO get feels unique and new with more content to enjoy
My biggest want for a reboot is a bigger focus on nintendo series and more under the radar choices. I'll never give up the hope of getting some Pokemon Mystery Dungeon content in a game. The spin-offs from major series deserve better representation.
I'm kinda surprised you didn't bring up the idea of trophies returning. The whole reason for their exclusion was a lack of dev time due to the amount of work that went into the stages
It really is a shame they were cut. One of the best parts about them in past Smash games (apart from being a much more satisfying collectible than literal PNGs) was that they felt like a virtual museum of Nintendo and gaming history; it would have been awesome seeing that with the scale of crossover that was Ultimate.
I actually love the mock up you did for the roster, and I think Alear would be an excellent new FE rep: also shout out to all Isaac fans, because I am sure one day we'll get the love we deserve ❤
I'll be straight with you Delzethin, I've been a fan of yours for 5 years now and I've come to realize within the Smash community, you're the one creator that inspires me the most about video games and what Smash could potentially be. You know exactly all the good points of Smash Bros. and you make it go to the next level with your ideas. Your ideas man, how do you come up with this stuff? You're awesome Delzedude. Never die
I've believed for a while that a reboot is basically the only thing I can imagine Smash 6 feasibly doing, this is a really solid look into what that could be!
If for any reboot the thing yo like best isn’t the roster being cut, just imagine a game with those best additions but no roster cuts, boom, easy counter point.
@@Wario1382 the best part of a reboot isn’t the fact that characters have bee removed, therefore you can just make a game that has whatever the best part of the reboot is without cutting characters.
I'm leaning more and more towards a reboot rather than an upscaled Ultimate port. So many things in Ultimate seem kinda unnecessary but were included because its Smash legacy stuff, like Dr Mario being a separate character and ZSS having her own slot. I think I'd rather see Miis reworked to be just 1 slot that has extra special moves to choose from for 1 fighter moveset to allow for Meta Knight and Diddy to make it back since I think they're too important to leave out, I really like the concept of a roguelike mode in Smash that's maybe similar to the way XC3's challenge mode had one
Ultimate already introduced “shield specials” with Inklings refill move and I was surprised nobody else used it. I especially thought switching characters like PT would use it to free up Down-Special for unique moves for each mon
Yeah I’d love to see that concept expanded on. It was executed pretty much perfectly for both Steve and Inkling, and I think the input is a great option to give extra depth to characters in the future, where appropriate of course.
As long as they update the older fighters to be modern interpretations of what they are now, Ganondorf being the biggest example, then I'll be happy. Maybe bring back the orchestra like music like Brawl's main theme did. That shit go real hard.
I'd love that. It would really emphasize the crossover aspect of Smash, and have it so that the characters acknowledge each other outside of fighting, something the last two entries sorely lacked.
I imagine if any of the square enix characters were to stay if/when a reboot happens it would be The Hero because it's a household name in Japan and is the pioneer of the JRPG
Also, let's be fair, he's the funnest character. The character as implemented in Smash has a dumb but surprisingly fair design with tons of casual appeal.
Probably Cloud/Hero would stay in the base game. Because FF7 is their FF Golden Child. Sephiroth i feel like he was added to promote FF7R, even though he's an iconic villain, i don't think Square would bring him back without this factor, and if he did, It would be as DLC. Sora perhaps if when this game comes they are desperate to promote KH4, but idk.
One thing I know for sure about a Smash reboot is that it MUST appeal to casual players, thing that it always did and not a single plstform fighter (or smash clone) has done nor gotten right, giving people things we know they know rather than keeping the things we remember and are no longer relevant. If a reboot cannot make new players happy and hook them with casual fights + single player content so they can on their own learn about the competitive potential then it wont be a good Smash. Still, the game should manage to give players a way to learn about older and unkown games, it always respected the past and made sure people knew about it.
The Roguelike idea would be great fun. Could even have items or spirits to boost stats or give buffs as mission clear bonuses to enhance the randomisation aspect.
I love how this came out right after Sakurai talking about in his own channel about how "you know we thought doing this was impossible, but it happened, so who knows, maybe things will line up again in the future"
I think It's kind of sad that so many of these type of videos tend to cut Daisy or just make her an echo fighter again, especially after she just made another mainline appearance in decades with Mario Wonder. A future moveset for her has a lot of potential to really represent that game in a way that others can't. For example, maybe she could pull out the Grappling Vine badge or do a Crouching High Jump as a recovery move. Just a couple of ideas
Yeah I was shocked to still see Rosalina when Galaxy was so long ago and people already moved on from it, I could see Pauline along with Waluigi since Mario Odyssey is still the last 3D Mario Game until a new one comes out and what if Daisy happens to appear in that one? I think she’ll need her own slot and escape Peach’s Shadow, I always pictured Daisy as a Luigified Peach or even a GanonDaisy where she’s stronger than Peach.
Because these jerk still mad daisy made it in over waluigi. They gaslight these clowns telling them he gonna be in the next game when just assistant trophy again. This why I can't stand these people on the net.
Nah, there really isn't much to work with. And with how badges work and her being in the game I'm fine with her being cut out in smash as her own slot and put as a palette swap for peach with her own voice. We have to make sacrifices and Daisy doesn't have much to stay in as her own slot as a fighter. Again I love Bowser Jr but if he is not in oh well he'll always be in Smash Ultimate and playable in other Spin offs like Mario Strikers Battle League. Again if you're not okay with this she'll always be playable in Smash Ultimate, Super Mario Bros Wonder and other Spin-offs like I mentioned, if we want the next Smash game to fully evolve, sacrifices must be made
@@squallleonhart9387 As a Fire Emblem fan, we ALL know what's coming, and only the most die-hard fanatics aren't ready for it. Though to be honest, a lot of us are disappointed that most of the series' representatives are framed as generic sword lords. Ike, Chrom, and Lucina were especially disheartening cases since they've been shown to use other weapons before (axes, lances, and bows respectively) yet ended up nowhere near as interesting as Robin, Corrin, or Byleth.
this would be awesome but i feel like something like pokken would be better where the game switches from platform fighter to traditional fighting game style
Another wild idea I have: can we please have a mode where we can play as Master Hand again? The little part of WoL is what made the mode worthwhile, and the only way to experience it is to play the whole thing again! >.
Yes to this, I was so disappointed that there wasn't something like that. And to add more, being able to choose Master Hand, but Crazy Hand as well, heck why stop there, other villains from past games?! But that's far fetched. Having a boss rush mode, and your idea plus Crazy Hand sounds the most doable for development time
All I want in the next Smash game is a proper story mode. A kind that has character interactions and voice acting, memeorable locales turned into stages, boss battles against new and classic faces. Basically, I want Subspace Emissary to return, and as much people want to make fun of it for how lackluster it was, I personally enjoyed it. The cutscenes were always memorable to watch, and it pained me that we never got something grand like this for TWO whole games (yes, World of Light doesn't count). Here's hoping Nintendo change their minds and give us a fantastic story mode to experience.
We need the crossover interactions that are on par with Tekken 7 of Akuma confronting both Heihachi and Kazuya Mishima, Heihachi especially as that remains the best crossover moment in gaming ever that’s yet to have actually been outdone; specifically from a plot relevancy and impactful perspective.
I think it would be the biggest shock for them to go *full reboot w 12 all-newcomer fighters & the unlock-able roster 30 redesigned versions of the OG fighters like they did Link. Then DLC being just popular chars & a few big hitter newcomers
You know what I think would be cool? Multiple movesets for different characters. That way you could have various movesets to represent specific games better. For example a super mario sunshine moveset or a luigis mansion moveset could be really cool. It could even play into the idea of custom movesets by allowing you to make your own moveset from different special moves from different movesets belonging to one character.
I think 50 is a bit extreme for a reboot. Something closer to 30 feels more realistic, and could satisfy the ambition of the other ideas in this video. As you said, Videogame development is MUCH harder than people give it credit for... better to reel it in, in my opinion.
I don't know man, cutting over 32 characters is already a lot. Cutting the roster by well over half would cause such an uproar that whatever extra they would gain from the decision wouldn't be worth it.
@@brycebitetti1402 I 100% agree, and maybe I just didn’t provide enough context, but i meant it more in the realm of this being a reboot. As a reboot, even a soft one, it would be important to establish new features, gimmicks, and expectations for subsequent DLC, or future installments. 30 characters brings the roster to a manageable level for a gameplay overhaul, makes balancing the roster more feasible, provides enough character slots for the protagonists of most major Nintendo IP’s & retro reps, as well as communicating very effectively the games role as a reboot. I definitely think 30 is too steep for the expected roster reduction, but as a reboot, it feels like an appropriate cut.
@user-rc3sw7xk1w While I see your point, I maintain that that would be absolutely disastrous. Remember, Smash is a casual series. Casual fans aren't reading up on press and watching new trailers or developer interviews. All they'll hear is that the new Smash game has cut over half of its character roster and then refuse to buy the game. The roster is everything when it comes to a fighting game, and that's especially tue for big crossovers. Games like MvC:I and Playatation All-Stars had other problems, yes, but the main thing that sunk them was their lackluster rosters.
@@Neoxon619yeah even if they do "reboot" I highly doubt the next smash game isn't just gonna build off of ultimate. Like how ultimate was built off of smash 4 and brawl built off of melee
Keep in mind that the next console basically has to be backwards compatible with the switch (as in it would be really bad for both Nintendo and the consumers if it wasn't) so ultimate would still be playable on the new system and unlike the Wii where you had to have a bunch of specific cables and stuff to access gamecube mode, I would assume this new system would work more like 3ds where you just put in a switch cartridge to access a switch game so there's less of a reason to rerelease it. I'm just putting the information out there and am not trying to imply this means they'll go a certain direction over the other.
If that does end up being the case, I could see a major new update for Ultimate (effectively what we would see in a theoretical deluxe port) and a new wave or two of DLC as a holdover for the next fully new game.
"where you had to have a bunch of specific cables and stuff to access gamecube mode" What are you talking about? Assuming you had the original Wii model, all you needed was a Gamecube controller to play GC titles on the Wii, and a memory card to save progress.
Man, some of these cuts really hurt me, but I understand the thought process. Hopefully we’d see these old favorites come back as (preferably) free bonuses, or at least cheap dlc. Your mode ideas are really interesting! I think a new special or mechanics would really spice things up. And hopefully Nintendo doesn’t screw over the competitive scene and listen to that branch of the fandom. But who knows?
As a fervent advocate for "quality > quantity", I got really fed up with Ultimate and MK8D It's exhausting for us and the devs and it doesn't solve any problems of the game itself (clones, no interesting side-modes, stale veteran movesets) If they'll go the way of an "Ultimate deluxe", I'm 100% not buying
Honestly after Mario wonder, I think there a lot that can be adapted into smash. Also I didn’t think piranha plant would have a lot of potential but that game give him some new stuff so I think he could come back
While I fear the reboot is inevitable, I must admit that I am quite scared of it. Because I am quite fond of the "weird picks" like Piranha Plant who will most likely get the cut..... Though your suggestion for a new roster seemed quite interesting. If there is a reboot there definetly need to be quite heavy reworks on the veterans, some of their movesets are simply no longer up to date, be it because the character developed in the main series or because they had a made-up moveset to begin with (Ganondorf .....).
I desperately hope that the stage builder gets an overhaul. I really miss having pre-made pieces to work with and hope they come back. Both because I can't draw stages to save my life and because it results in a more cohesive art style for the game.
Well, why not have both? Have a freehand option alongside basic props. Also, I want at least the Sm4sh grass back. Trying to make grass and dirt with Ultimate is an unnecessary hassle.
I really hope they start fresh next game and don't try to build upon ultimate with a sequel or a port. Not for the reason of "There's nothing else they can do." But it would just be WAAAAAY too much to manage.
I feel like one thing I would add is a gimmick to make this reboot feel fresh and stand out. And bringing back the Custom Special Moves feature from smash 4/Mii fighters and expanding apon it could be the way to go. Especially if the roster gets smaller, 'cause then they could focus more on changing up the movesets and give players a chance to unlock and customize these moves to find their ideal play style for their favorite characters.
I think a better way than trying to fit all of these nearly 100 characters into the same game, would be to put certain sets of characters into separate fighting games. I imagine a more traditional 2D anime fighter crossing over HAL/Sakurai characters such as • Kirby • Mother/Earthbound • Kid Icarus • Balloon Fight • Mach Rider And some fitting guests like • A Boy & his Blob • The Legendary Starfy • Kingdom Hearts • “Toad Warrior” from the Mario super show (DiC cartoon) • maybe even paper Mario??? 😅
I really like the idea of a full reboot of the series that is more focused. Ultimate ballooned to such a size that it just feels messy and unwieldy. I feel like in many ways Melee and Brawl have aged better - the story mode and character lists are more straightforward. That whole training spirits thing is such a headache.
Personally, the craziest idea I had for them to do the next smash bros is a game with a heavy focus on the Adventure Mode. All the characters would be split up in pairs of two (maybe some a little more) for a unique story that takes them through all the other universes to defeat their villain. The stories themselves would probably be excuse plots, nothing special, but fanservice-y enough to leave you satisfied. every pair of characters would play through the same stages, but they'd be visited in different order with different enemies, and each has their own gimmicks, so no two adventures are the same. My even crazier idea on top of that is a significantly smaller roster than even you got, maybe around Melee size, but each character would have a few different versions to include some Mario-style powerup action. I'm thinking that each character has a weaker alt version, and a stronger alt version. Maybe several stronger versions for specific characters. You'd be able to make some crazy gameplay changes to the regular battle modes with these too, like having your first stock be the weak form, leading up to the strong form on the last stock. Really, even ignoring my crazy ideas, what I want from the next Smash game is something *COMPLETELY* different than what they have been doing.
@@DjoingDaltonI assume the changes you want for forms are bigger than what already exist with custom balancing, like alterations to movests and stuff, but even then, it could be made with the current cast size as proven by the custom moves from 4.
The best way would making some kind of Arcsystem/SF V/6 style of story mode Each character would have their own short story in classic mode with a visual novel style narrative to justify the gameplay part. If there is a main story, the only way to have a big roster and a story closer to Brawl would be again, a visual novel style of narrative with an ocasional CG/anime cutscene. But i doubt this would happen with Smash because: I don't think the younger Smash audience would enjoy this type of story mode. The classic one is likely, but a full story being told mostly in text would piss off the general audiences or they would find it boring.
i think smash as a series has gone as far as it can go as a multiplayer game, so if we wanted a reboot to exist alongside ultimate like you said near the start of the video, I think a single player focused game would be what I'd do. Smash is a crossover but it doesn't really take advantage of that fact, we don't get character interactions except for niche cases of characters being in the same series. I also think, if there was to be a fully story mode, Smash characters have so many unique tools to take advantage of, so having levels built around certain characters would be very cool.
This is a cool idea, but could honestly be its own IP rather than a new Smash Bros game. Make it an RPG or action-adventure title rather than a platform fighter.
this is amazing, id love to play a reboot smash a random side note i thought of when you brought up the metroid characters, and keeping spirits in the game, is one of the properties of some spirits being the change of what some attacks do, like maybe it gives a special/ neutral or all specials/neutrals a different attribute( fire, electricity, darkness, etc)
Ayumi Tachibana has become one of my more requested newcomers thanks to her HD remake of her series, Famicom Detective Club, plus the fact that she was considered for melee. She's easily in my top 10 most wanted newcomers and her franchise is something I commonly recommend to friends.
Smash bros really lacks a visual novel character rep as well so she would be welcome on my book. Tho there is also quite a few other worthy visual novel reps for smash like Phoenix wright, Monokuma, Saber from Fate etc.
Ayyy another Ayumi Appreciator! She should really get her chance next time as a surprise retro rep, a lot of people sleep on her when it comes to Smash. Other mentions include Andy from Advance Wars and Ashley Mizuki Robbins from Another Code. Both of which also having Switch Remakes with Another Code releasing in January 2024.
She would be a great character to be in As for other VN characters I would love to see arcueid from tsukihime and maybe saber from fate stay night getting added. Also those 2 I’ve mentioned are video game characters first please don’t @ me and also had games on Nintendo
I agree that a reboot might be the best route Nintendo could take, particularly with how they can properly update movesets or retool the undercooked ones. Give Samus her newer weapons from Fusion and Dread, give Kirby his missing staples and some more popular abilities, give Link more from BotW and/or TotK (Though your idea to have Impa or Rauru in could work around that by giving them the Sheikah and Zonai powers respectively.)
About Konami, you could add in characters from some of their newer games (cuz they are back to making games), like Jingle from Super Crazy Rhythm Castle.
I know it’s a bit late to comment on this, but your roster for this hypothetical next Smash is no kidding, exactly what I’d think would happen. Only thing I’d add to this proposal is that every character from Smash 64 to Brawl that would return should have almost a complete move overhaul. Granted, some moves would survive for this next game, but with some exceptions like say Captain Falcon, a bunch of characters should be changed up. Only exceptions I’d say would most likely be characters from Smash 4 & Ultimate as they’re more recent.
I honestly like the idea of replacing cut veterans for newcomers who’d feel like spiritual successors, kinda similar to what Ike and Lucario were to Mewtwo and Roy in Brawl. So with that here are the ones I’d recommend - Sheik for Impa - Wii Fit for Ring Fit - Corrin for Alear - Mayybe Piranha Plant for Toad since they’re both basic species - Ice climbers for a more recognizable retro rep like the ExciteBiker
Good thoughts. I think some spin off games would be awesome too: Melee 2 is an obvious choice (upgrade graphics and add maybe 3-5 new fighters and stages but leave gameplay unchanged). Pokémon Smash would be like a Pokémon game but the battles would be platform fighting. Level up to increase damage/knock back. Custom Specials as Pokémon learn new moves.
I think a reboot will happen but i REALLY don't think it should happen next i think Ultimate should get a deluxe port first and then get DLC developed by a smaller team while a bigger team goes and starts development of a reboot behind the scenes.
Personally, I say that a reboot of smash would be able to bring in more indie game titles like Freedom Planet, Shovel Knight, and FNAF getting in with playable fighters.
If I could only make two changes to your new hypothetical roster, they would be.. 1. I would swap out Yoshi for another Mario newcomer, Toad. Yoshi throughout Smash outside of having a unique double jump, has been the fighter who has always been just kind of there without much fan fare. And while you can update Yoshi with more element from his own games, not only are giving representation to a character/race who have made appearances (in both playable and NPC appearances) across the Mario series. We also get to represent a new set of Mario games like the puzzle games (like their roles in Captain Toad Treasure Trackers, Wario's Woods, and maybe even a nod to Mario & Wario) ontop of finally rounding out the full SMB2 cast which also is another good source of inspiration for Toad's moveset. 2. I would switch out the Excitebike for Mach Rider from NES game...Mach Rider. He fits the bill of both being retro Nintendo rep and having the same as unique identity of "guy who fights entirely on his motorcycle" while having more to work with as actual fighter. Such using their pistol, being able to place down explosive barrels around the stage, or porting similar ideas from an Excitebiker move set like spawing ramps or mud puddles; and the very least having an Excitebiker skin as an alt. Also they were one of the rumored newcomers for Ultimate in the Grinch Leak so their inclusion wouldn''t be too out of left field.
This is easily the best video I've seen on this topic! I like Ultimate but I really think Smash needs a reboot more focused on quality over quantity. Ultimate's single player is really underwhelming, spirits were a bad replacement for trophies and event mode, and the roster suffers from a lot of bloat. I mostly agree with your points, however I'm very hesitant about adding new techniques. Smash has always valued accessibility, that's what I liked about it. Ultimate and Smash 4 in particular don't have any over centralized tech where you NEED to be good at it to do well in the game, so I'd be worried it would be a repeat of Melee or like other fighting games. Also, only way I could accept getting rid of ZSS as someone that loves the character and used her since Brawl is integrate aspects of her into Samus like making her faster, maybe have her victory screens remove her helmet or suit to reference the Metroid endings. I feel like that would be perfect considering Dread Samus is incredibly agile and the victory screens paying homage to something the Metroid series is known for would be an amazing touch and make Metroid fans like me very happy! I just found be sad seeing her have no presence in the new game at all, so this would be a good way to handle it imo
Amazing video! Easily my favorite smash reboot video and also the most similar to my own ideas on how to handle it. Only thing I think was off was the exclusion of Jigglypuff (I know seems silly). I’d argue Jigglypuff falls into the list of characters, together with Ness and Captain Falcon, that transcend their original game and are more canonically smash characters at this point. Besides that minor gripe it’s a great list of suggestions. On a personal note I’d also love to see a graphical change maybe some stylized cel shading, making sure that all four special move for characters are useful as part of their kit, make an RPG inspired adventure mode and last (but definitely not least) make the online experience GOOD for once. Here’s hoping Nintendo looks at this video as their main inspiration for a rework 🙏🏽 great job!
Smash needs better settings for controls. Ultimate has expanded them, but here are some points that I think could improve it: - In addition to "attack", have "smash" and "tilt" (or "strong") as optional separate options. "attack" has the classic rules of Smash of doing smash or tilts depending on how you move the stick, but "smash" will always result in a smash, and "tilt" will always result in a tilt (without moving the stick, both will be jab). These are optional to use. - Allow to set the amount of buffer. Some players want smaller buffer, and there should be an option for it. Allow us to even set a higher buffer. - Same for jump, regular "jump" does both, and then you have "short hop" and "full jump" as optional options. People can probably come up with even more ideas.
I do agree with you that videogame development is harder than the majority can imagine, but citing your "limited experience in development on your teenage years" is a easy way to just make the argument really weak. Its better to cite the actual quotes from Sakurai which there are many like his videos on development management.
Great Video dude, this has inspired my Smash 6 ideas, I have had soooooooo many arguments on people about Smash 6 and what it should do and I've been trying to explain that Smash can't do an expanded version of Ultimates roster and that characters need to be reworked and that if the next game happens (which no matter if Sakurai is involved or not it probably will) needs to cut down on characters and that this is something to be expected with Fighting game sequels but they just won't listen, all-in-all great video dude, I hope more people see it cause this is the perfect frame work for a Smash 6 although I disagree on somethings like cutting Mega Man and Meta Knight
Yes, a reboot is needed. I don't want Ultimate 2.0 like they've been doing with Mario Kart 8 for almost a decade (almost seeming like F-Zero GX where Ninty thinks nothing else needs to be done...hmm). I want a lesser roster with an ambitious adventure mode that plays like Kirby and the Forgotten Lands. Visiting all your favorite Nintendo worlds and fighting iconic bosses, and maybe seeing Tabuu's resurrection? I wanna see Zelda-esc interaction! Where you can be Mario and buy a Maximum Tomato at a Kokiri shop. Or be Ness fighting Eggman with Sonic in Eggman Land. Stuff like that. Also I need Walugi. Lastly yes, Break the Targets would be a great return. Remix the original Melee theme too, Ohhh I would die happy.
If they do a smash reboot I’m praying rayman becomes a fighter. Dude is built to be in smash bros and it’s kinda unfair how we got tons of echo fighters but not actual wanted characters
Honestly, though if Smash were to continue Ultimate's idea to spread the Zelda reps across different games Impa would be the obvious choice, if we're staying primarily within the bounds of the most recent entries, I think Sidon actually has the best shot of anyone to make it in. He has the best combination of popularity and attendance, showing up in the original game, its spin-off, and its sequel, all in large roles, and would finally rep the different races of Hyrule, which rarely get so much as a spirit or trophy in Smash.
My thought was always adding dimension. An arena battler with more emphasis on platforming and stage variety. Smash as an IP will always be compared to its past. Better to make the comparison apples to oranges and pivot the genre. It would not be easy, but with such an overhaul, we could go back to smaller rosters in a completely reasonable way since every character would be fundamentally redeveloped.
@@Neoxon619 or it could be like mario 64, an iconic new take on an iconic series. The obvious difference would be that they kept making 2d mario games alongside the newer 3d ones, but with Smash, I genuinely feel like Ultimate finished the series. Any reboot that doesn't change the substance of the game itself might just feel like a lackluster sequel. Any sequel with increasingly more content just risks bloating the game into oblivion. I'd rather start with smaller content with a bigger scope of playability
@@paulweyer4339Street Fighter never had this absurd expectation placed upon it of having to change the core of the game, despite running longer and having more entries than Smash. There’s virtually no good platform fighters, yet there’s tons of 2D fighters and even some 3D ones. Why do _none_ of them have to change (when at least there’s always a “backup” option to play), but Smash does? There’s nothing about having ~80 fighters means it’s “done” and has nowhere to progress. It’s the assumption that the only thing that could set it apart is just more new characters. They could do plenty of new things. I think a reboot is inevitable to help cut the roster while also revamping old characters, but that doesn’t mean it has to change genres/perspectives. All you have to do is once you hit 50-60 characters (including DLC), have about 20-25 that are mainstays, and the others could be cut or brought back at will with any following game. Like how a lot of other fighting games manage their growing rosters already. Everyone from the dev team/Sakurai to the fans just have to get more used to cuts happening. And not just the 5-6 per game that happened with Smash before.
@@mrshmuga9 nobody is saying it "has to" do anything. I just thought I had a fun idea for one way they can keep things fresh. I'm sure you have some ideas that would be fun too.
One route I hope for prior to any reboot is branching the smash IP into more genres. For example, what if we got a "squad brawler" or whatever the gameplay style is called (think games like marvel ultimate alliance, or nicktoons unite). Or what about everyone's favorite hypothetical spin-off, "Smash Kart"??
I know I’m a bit late for this but hearing the cuts you made for the fe characters sparked an idea. Alear certainly can have new reps from various emblems, but they can also just make all the cut fe reps be used in their specials. Ike’s Aether for up b. Roy’s “Blazing Lion” as its now called in engage for a ranged slash attack. Corrin’s Dragon Fang for a projectile. And Lucina can use either the bow Parthia for another projectile or one of her engage skills bonded shield as a counter. That way you’ve effectively turned 4 semi-controversial fe characters into 1, while also introducing new mechanics and attacks to still make Alear feel different from the remaining reps
The closest I’ve seen to character interactions in
Smash was Palutena’s end screen against pit/dark pit, or dark pit’s ending screen against pit 🥲

I think the best part about this? Is that Sakurai DEFINITELY understands this needs to happen. The idea of 'Everyone is here' only works once so having a reboot would be the most beneficial for the health of the series.
Sakurai said it was his last game, at least for nintendo.

I can see Diddy Kong potentially being cut from the next game now due to possible legal issues regarding...a certain disgraced mogul
And we'd lose so many interesting characters that make matchups and gameplay more fun, that's like throwing away a child's entire toy collection and giving them less toys but with more functions, who cares if Mario is faithful now if we had to axe so many completed characters for it
You don't need a reboot to continue Smash after Ultimate, there's still plenty of franchises that haven't seen their modern updates (like Kirby or Sonic) and a reboot is just gonna throw all the already available hd assets to the bin if it's gonna have a new engine or whatever, I'd rather have the next game salvage as much as possible given so much stuff like the stages or everything surrounding it is already completed for hd use

@@erickmaverick3128 This was longer than I thought it be, but here it goes:
Give them more run speed, (but not like Bowser at least faster than Villager but prefer on par with Zelda), change dash animation to the mage dash in the FE Warriors series, I prefer the Three Hopes one, change his stance to his idle one from Awakening.
One idea that needs to be implemented in the next Smash should Miis return:
Bring in the level of Mii customization that Miitopia gave us
That would MORE than make up for any favorites being axed
I think that's something the Switch 2 in general really needs to implement tbh, bring miis back to box feature status
@@FireallyXTheoriesI'd love for those abilities to be in a Smash 6
I really hope the Switch 2 implents it someday
My major concern with your roster is that I don't see Konami stuff happening again; and I really don't see Bayonetta being cut when they have to negotiate for Sonic anyway.
dude this idea would be SO COOL
@@Squiferz Any Nintendo X Third-Party collisions you'd want to see a focus on?
(Admittedly my idea for DLC is a bit weird, because I'd go for three slots per pass - but each slot would be a rivalry where neither franchise was Nintendo-published; like Ryu and Terry coming together. Also lets you squeeze in Ken as an echo without raising too many eyebrows because Ken and Terry are also sorta the crossover people want...)
MvCI actually did something similar with the stages.
Seeing dark soul’s representation would be so cool. And yes I want more final fantasy.
I love hearing these fresh opinions rather than just another “make the next smash game an updated port”. I want to experience something new. Give me new mechanics, elemental damage, air grabs, modes, remade veterans. I’m so excited for the new.
Aerial Smash Attacks and Grabs, Chargable Tilts could be interesting
@@brandonwilliams6119not a fan of chargeable tilts, it’d make the feedback on them not as good, both in gameplay and in feel. Besides, it’s redundant w smash attacks
TBF, I feel like “cut half the roster and rework Ganondorf & Samus” is about as common as people suggesting just a port lol
Custom colors but only for first party characters and Steve (Steve already has them in his own game so of course it would be allowed here)
@@algotkristoffersson15Even Nintendo probably wouldn’t want that with a number of their characters (and couldn’t with say, Pokemon). It would be pointless to develop a system that only applies to a chunk of characters. And depending how detailed you’d want it (Individual parts of a costume? Only changing a specific colour of their costume to one other colour?) it’d probably be easier to just make one new DLC costume per character.
@@mrshmuga9 Cool, Just port the skin system from minecraft, it would only apply to steve but also already exists, mmeaning they don't need to make it
For a compromise on the custom colors system, I think they could do the system featured in modern French Bread fighting games (which includes Melty Blood: Type Lumina and the upcoming Under Night In-Birth 2) where your color choices are limited to the existing pallets but you can mix and match the particular parts. For instance you might be able to make Mario have hat of one color palette, the overalls of another, and the shirt beneath it from yet another.
Just limit it for certain characters. So for characters like sonic you can only change shoe and glove colour
Dark pit could’ve been an echo fighter still
@@Miraoaoa alt like brawl how he actually came to even be a thing.
or give him the style pit has in brawl. His new side b sucks anyways same with u b
Then just give toon link the four swords and have clones come in for a few attacks.
That would be a fun side mode
It’s a bit too big for a reboot roster in my opinion
One more thing I’d hope to see in a reboot are either trophies, or spirits fleshed out enough to be decent successors to them this time
If they stick to a smaller number like for instance only limit it to the series being represented by the fighters (and Assist Trophies). They could go back to trophies, dolls or something more "solid" like the first few games
Cut both. How much do you look at them?
@@ddsjgvk
Quite a lot.
Even if The Subspace Emissary is beyond the scope of a reboot, it’s just wasted potential to not have any character interactions in a crossover game.
you get it, It doesn't even have to be a good story, I just want actual classic mode endings!!
When I first played it, I was so disappointed they weren’t there that I made my own, lol.
I like the idea of cutting down the fire emblem roster and using the new protagonist to summon the cut fighters so they are still technically in the game.
Yeah, a good compromise
Genius, I know a lot of people would still be salty and try to attack the Mario roster too to shorten it for their favorites
And if Joker doesn’t come back then I guess Alear can keep that Persona Summoning Gimmick?
the group of the cut characters is back to thogether snake ice climbers pokemon trainer young link wolf pichu
Since all of them are sword lords, most can just be made alternate skins to eachother.
i feel like it should be noted that getting everyone in smash history back was a huge load on sakarai for multiple reasons and with all the characters we have now will likely never happen again or at least to the same extent as ultimate
Yet, people today think it's so damn easy. 🙄
@@erickmaverick3128 I'd like to see those people try to recreate the "everyone is here" event themselves and see how much of a headache it is 🤣
I think a nice addition could be a "traditional/arcade" mode, where the game could play like street fighter. Since ultimate has a parry, I think this direction would fit well. Reduced knockback, limited jumps and wider stages would be implemented but likely wouldn't be too much work.
Imagine if every characters icon for this mode was pixel art as an homage to street fighter and older fighting games
I really like your idea for DLC. It would make speculation a whole lot more interesting.
So many of the older fighters desperately need a touch-up with more modern inclusions into their move set.
A reboot that basically gave a lot of old roster members a DLC level of polish would be SO cool.
Ganon’s the poster child for this. Remaking his moveset from the ground up would be so welcomed.
let's not turn this into League of Legends please
Sonic needs actual moves that aren’t just rolling
@@MILDMONSTER1234
He should get a move where he turns into a ball and starts to roll around at the speed of sound, it would be pretty cool
The only OG’s I’d argue should be the same are like fox, marth, shiek and Mario.
I would LOVE to see either Alucard or raiden in this one as like the K-Rool of the game.
Dante too
If the game is going to be a reboot with significant changes (and not just “you can air grab now”), there’s no way we’re getting 50 to start with.
I could just imagine his artillery, and if he has a skin/clone fighter/another rep for the series, i’d love to see things like ifrit, or virgil
Power Stone walked so Super Smash Bros could run.
Its only Smash bros fans that have seizures when a character has a weapon
But will lose their shit over another variation of link, final fantasy characters somehow being the exception

@@brandonwilliams6119I actually am not that sure if there will be more Xenoblade games. The overall main story is kind of finished in a sense with the end of this trilogy. @@TheEmperorGulcasa Oh there is definitely gonna be more Xenoblade games. It's gonna be a new saga.
I know that Pythra is the same to keep character diversity, but I would REALLY want a total overhaul that ACTUALLY represents XC2 properly. It infinitely bugs me that Rex got Chrom-ed when the blade system and the relationship between him and the aegis is the core of XC2.
I would love that maybe they should just create Rex as part of their moveset and have them switch into him with a shield b input similar to Torna.

What I would like is with classic mode you get endings like umvc3, where characters are interacting with different characters
I'd love that. It would really emphasize the crossover aspect of Smash, and have it so that the characters acknowledge each other outside of fighting, something the last two entries sorely lacked.
I’d want cutscenes like what Tekken 8 has.

Yes to this, I was so disappointed that there wasn't something like that.
If it does happen as a reboot, I can take it if any changes are acceptable. Hopefully it’ll be a good one to give it a chance.
I think it would be the biggest shock for them to go *full reboot w 12 all-newcomer fighters & the unlock-able roster 30 redesigned versions of the OG fighters like they did Link. Then DLC being just popular chars & a few big hitter newcomers
I like the idea of some characters getting changes while staying in the roster.
Like Diddy Kong being able to switch with Dixie Kong.
Did you get this idea from another smash 6 concept by any chance :)
@@__Soya__ I don't believe so, I've had this idea in the back of my mind for a little bit now.
So basically bring back garbage custom moves
@@Wario1382 They literally said to make it better🤦🤦 0iq comment
not said enough - you're an awesome designer! i love the hexagon motif for the character select.
Yeah, and the yellow-purple gradient in the background if the character slots.
They aren’t completely starting from scratch, so no need to go that far with the cuts.
As a fervent advocate for "quality > quantity", I got really fed up with Ultimate and MK8D
It's exhausting for us and the devs and it doesn't solve any problems of the game itself (clones, no interesting side-modes, stale veteran movesets)
If they'll go the way of an "Ultimate deluxe", I'm 100% not buying
I'm pretty sure they might try "An New Era" of Smash Bros
I imagine a more traditional 2D anime fighter crossing over HAL/Sakurai characters such as
• Kirby
• Mother/Earthbound
• Kid Icarus
• Balloon Fight
• Mach Rider
And some fitting guests like
• A Boy & his Blob
• The Legendary Starfy
• Kingdom Hearts
• “Toad Warrior” from the Mario super show (DiC cartoon)
• maybe even paper Mario???
The roster will never be malee size it would not sell.
@@INFERNO95 Hm, you may be right. Brawl size, then.
No splitting into pairs, one story with all characters interacting,
@@DjoingDaltonI assume the changes you want for forms are bigger than what already exist with custom balancing, like alterations to movests and stuff, but even then, it could be made with the current cast size as proven by the custom moves from 4.
The best way would making some kind of Arcsystem/SF V/6 style of story mode
Each character would have their own short story in classic mode with a visual novel style narrative to justify the gameplay part.
If there is a main story, the only way to have a big roster and a story closer to Brawl would be again, a visual novel style of narrative with an ocasional CG/anime cutscene. But i doubt this would happen with Smash because:
I don't think the younger Smash audience would enjoy this type of story mode.
@@alexpotts6520then how about Smash Run?
@@derple8524Smash Adventure or Smash RPG?
this is amazing, id love to play a reboot smash
a random side note i thought of when you brought up the metroid characters, and keeping spirits in the game, is one of the properties of some spirits being the change of what some attacks do, like maybe it gives a special/ neutral or all specials/neutrals a different attribute( fire, electricity, darkness, etc)
@@squallleonhart9387 I agree, and those other two are good choices too.

IMO, I think a roster reboot like this should be Nintendo focused. No third parties. And I mained steve so Im not being bias or anything
Fighter 12: Octoling
Spirits: Deep Cut Small Fry Squidbeak Splatoon
Music : Deep Cut and Splatoon 3
Stage : any from Splatoon
I think Bayonetta would be in, Nintendo seems to have a soft spot and keeps pushing the series. Shes almost a Ninty character
Personally I like the idea of a Smash Reboot having an artstyle like the promotional mural. Imagine if the game was in that hand-drawn art style!
Fighter 17: Bandana Dee
Stage : another dimension
Spirits : from Kirby forgotten land
Music : ??? From forgotten land
So with that here are the ones I’d recommend
- Sheik for Impa
- Wii Fit for Ring Fit
- Corrin for Alear
- Mayybe Piranha Plant for Toad since they’re both basic species
- Ice climbers for a more recognizable retro rep like the ExciteBiker
I would be fine with a reboot, after all, EVERYONE IS HERE literally can't be topped
Good thoughts. I think some spin off games would be awesome too:
Melee 2 is an obvious choice (upgrade graphics and add maybe 3-5 new fighters and stages but leave gameplay unchanged).
Pokémon Smash would be like a Pokémon game but the battles would be platform fighting. Level up to increase damage/knock back. Custom Specials as Pokémon learn new moves.
1:56 that mewtwo got my attention 💀

I think a reboot will happen but i REALLY don't think it should happen next i think Ultimate should get a deluxe port first and then get DLC developed by a smaller team while a bigger team goes and starts development of a reboot behind the scenes.
Personally, I say that a reboot of smash would be able to bring in more indie game titles like Freedom Planet, Shovel Knight, and FNAF getting in with playable fighters.
Yeah. I have nothing against people that want a "smash bros ultimate deluxe" but then what? They can't keep adding building off of Ultimate forever!
Also they were one of the rumored newcomers for Ultimate in the Grinch Leak so their inclusion wouldn''t be too out of left field.
mach rider is a girl, she's never used ramps, and using leaks as evidence for a character being a viable smash newcomer is nonsense
As long as K. Rool stays in and DK gets reworked, I'll be happy
One character I'd personally love to see.... is one I fully acknowledge is highly unlikely to see the light of day in regards to the series: Knack.
Smash needs better settings for controls. Ultimate has expanded them, but here are some points that I think could improve it:
- In addition to "attack", have "smash" and "tilt" (or "strong") as optional separate options.
I feel like they only did the “Multiple eras of Zelda” thing because Ganondorf didn’t appear in a mainline Zelda game since TP.
Then it wouldn’t really be Smash anymore. It’d be like making mainline Street Fighter into a 3D fighter, or Splatoon into a bullet hell game.
