    In the late 1980s, I knew a guy who must have been a member because he made it possible for me to have my one and only drive of a tram. It was the Birney and I drove it for maybe 100 metres and learned about the brakes etc. It was an experience that I will never forget. Back then, there was talk of extending the line to Kilmore but that was obviously a pipe dream. The place looks so run down and bedraggled now and such a shame that they can no longer run the trams. I hope that there can be a revival of interest in these wonderful machines. As for Government support, it would seem unlikely, but we live in hope. Thanks for the video 😊👍

    • @WillJamesRailways
      @WillJamesRailways  3 года назад +1

      That must have been a great experience!
      We can only hope they get back on their feet and get the trams running again, i believe there is still a tram shed and some track at Kilmore, if they every getting something running ill head back out there and make another video and show what's left there!

    I used to live right across from the tram museum at 325 union lane I was living with my mum and pa but that was 6 years ago and I really miss that place I used to just walk over there as a kid and they didn’t mind me being there and I used to explore every part there.
    Good times :)

    I didn't know we even had a tramway museum until recently. I've been to Sydney's tramway museum and it is ace. Hopefully, with more publicity and $$$ ours will be as good or better.

    It would be amazing to see this site connected up to the Melbounre Tram network, it's only 43kms from stop 40 along Sydeny road on Route 19. Imagine being able to take a heritage tram from the city to the tram muesem. it would certainly get a lot more visitors. Plus the extra trams servicing Campbellfield, Falkner and Craigebrun.
    However 43kms of track sounds small but I'm sure it would cost over $100M it's a nice thought though.

    • @WillJamesRailways

      I mean I think I’d be more than happy to see trams running on their current tramway, it would (as far as I know) be able to be connected to Kilmore with the right funding etc!

    The one thing I really like about Melbourne is the trams, especially the old ones, new ones too sterile. Haven't been on them since privatisation though. Good to see they have some of the old MET buses too. I didn't know trams also ran in Geelong. Bylands looks to be away from the city and out in the bush, will look it up later. Great tour, thank you.

      Although a static display, i feel the members do a very good job at maintaining and presenting the museum, and hopefully with more finical support from visitors now, they'll be back to being able to run trams in the future.
