Dia Dhuit. I was reared on the songs of the Wolf Tones, my Dad was a friend of Dominic Behan, on Kildare Road in Crumlin, Dublin 12. I went to see this group live in The Wexford Inn [Dublin] many times. Everyone would end up on top of the tables singing along with them and they always ended their set with A Nation Once Again. They have many songs that you should listen to especially if you have them singing LIVE. Few songs to listen to if not all of them; Grace, The Broad Black Brimmer, The Men Behind the Wire, On The One Road, The Streets of New York, My Heart is in Ireland, Spancil Hill..... There are just so many songs. l know you will have great craic here in Ireland. Slán a chara.
The Wolfe Tones are legends! If you liked this song check out "Some Say The Devil is Dead".
Slainte from Ireland, best wishes on your adventure 🇮🇪 make sure stop off in Tullamore for a dew 🥃
The Wolfe Tones have a bunch of lovely Irish rebel music! I just saw them in concert last weekend, and I recommend "Boys of the Old Brigade," "Hibernia," "Celtic Symphony," "Rifles of the IRA," "The Broad Black Brimmer," "Rock on, Rockall," and the three-part song called "You'll Never Beat the Irish"
Just found your channel, so i figured i'd say hi and tell my story related to this song. 😊. I am Belgian and went on student exchange to Germany ( Leipzig ) in 2000-2001, met a bunch of lovely people with whom i'm still close friends today. Amongst them a group of Irish girls, and one of them, Aoife , is related to the writer of this song ( Dominic Behan, and his IRA father Stephen) . I was quickly educated on whatever i didnt already know about Irish history and culture 😂. If you want strong women that will speak their mind, i can tell you that Ireland is one of the places to find them. 😂
Love song there was a bullet hole in my grandparents house the black @ tans shot through window as candle was lightning after 10PM
Yes they were a target from loyalist paramilitaries but another Irish band heading up north were killed when there bus was blown when the Wolf Tones pulled out of the gig ,a favourite of mine is only our rivers run free , another brilliant song by the Wolf Tones , 🇮🇪☘️🙏🏻🇮🇪👍🏻🇮🇪
Hope you enjoy the country
Irish folk music has traditional roots for centuries and is a great part of our culture, way of life and a means of rebelling through song - when you mention Punk, you are right to a degree, the historical rebellion element shines through with some CeltoPunk bands like as still a vehicle for rebelling, as Punk does (DKM, Flogging Molly etc The Pogues - then you have the UK element such as GBH and Exploited from Scotland again about their respective challenges); in essence Punk is the new traditional music with out the aggression, albeit subtlety delivered in a melodic manner - with gusto!!! I grew up with the Dubliners, Clancy Brothers and the Wolf Tones but love my punk too - for the same reason, its a fight against a bigger thing - our music back in the day was the British occupation and our fight and struggle was reflected in music, Punk today (70s to date) is about a fight against societal issues and prejudice, not disimilar but thankfully no one dies, unlike our past! All the best from Dublin
We still sing this song in the pubs at the end of the night😀
A suggestion for your bucket list trip. Peadar Browns pub in Dublin on a Saturday night. You will hear a lot of this type of music. A raucous night.
They definitely were at risk. They did perform in Northern Ireland during The Troubles but the Special Branch told them not to go north again because their lives were in danger. British Loyalists had already executed a young Irish band called the Miami Showband and they would have only loved to get their hands on The Wolfe Tones.
It gets you fired up, them bastard Black and Tans fired shots at my grandmother and her sister going to school as little girls in Co. CLare. She could hear the bullets whizzing over their heads. They randsack her mother's house and ate everything she had, gone but not forgotten. "RIFLES OF THE IRA" is another great rebel song of that period.
Can't beat a rebel song. The reasons i love irish rebel music and hip hop (for me its also rebel music)
saw these guys at the Fiele in Belfast. brilliant annual event
You can't beat Irish rebel songs man 🎉
Rock on rock all by the wolfe tones
I grew up in Northern England listening to Irish Rebel songs in the 1960/70’s. Thank you from 🇮🇪💕
The sex pistols were one of the first punk rock bands around there lead singer is Johnny rotten he was born in England to Irish parents and the told him about the hard times they had to go through. So he always mentioned it was one of the reasons he hated and wrote songs about the English establishment
A good place to go in Dublin is Slaterys pub early house, opens at 7am and packed at 10am and a good Balid session great bit of crack 👍🏻🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪👍🏻
