Hey Bro, I was the Manager on Duty that night, thought I'd throw in some extra details (though you covered it pretty well and accurately) . -The glass in the windows was broken by the gang members using our metal crowd barrier to try and ram the door down. -They had to use that because one of our security (in what probably saved some lives) managed to close and lock the door to the venue before anyone could get to it. -One of the people who'd tried busting the door down had managed to drop a knife at the top which really added to the weight of the situation. -The cops had also advised me to shut the night down, the lights coming on and glasses getting thrown were at me telling everyone from the sound desk that we needed to end the night. -I asked the cops before this why it had to me (or you) doing any of this when it's clearly a dangerous situation, they said "it's not safe for us to go down as a group down the narrow stairs" -I'd made all the staff go wait in the office which has a lockable door and is pretty secure and stayed out to keep an eye on the venue as people left, definitely got a couple of death threats but also a lot of people showing respect and taking time to acknowledge it was fucking scary getting things to stop. I'm definitely sorry that this is the experience you had in this country and in our venue, we work really hard to try and provide a safe space and for things to have got out of hand to that level felt pretty bad, it's good to hear you've been back on our shores a couple more times, that night was a hard one to shake so I wouldn't have blamed you if you'd just said fuck it and never bothered coming this way again.
Man so so wild to reconnect here! And to be honest im blown away, we had to do it. I remember us up at the top of the stairs when the police basically said it was our problem legitimately trying to work out a situation that was quite evidently out of our hands. Happy to have survived it, def wasnt the venues fault in the slightest. Was a crazy crazy situation, that im glad we both got out of scratch free. There was def moments i was legit scared for my life, the young guard at the front was so good during the whole situation and went above and beyond what he was getting paid for. I laughed it off after, but even now when i go there i get scared walking around lol. Crazy crazy situation and story, how have you been?
@@Dannysrants Yeah crazy aye, someone just linked me the video saying I should watch it, was a bit nervous at first that it was going to be some wildly overdramatized version of events but was happy to see it was you retelling it and you were giving a damned honest retelling of it all. I have held the perspective that realistically, there was no real way for you or us to have anticipated this, it'd have taken someone who was going to be involved actually telling us "x thing is going to happen, don't put on the gig" Hear you on being scared for your life, I still tell the tale of this night as both one of the most wild and intense nights I've ever had in my life, I'm thankful there hasn't been a repeat of it that's for sure and really thankful no one got hurt in the end. I'm good man, I still work for the venue and so does the entire team that was on that night. People that run it were really supportive and handled it pretty well in the back end. luckily beyond being in the news a bit, nothing further came of it which I was definitely anxious about (going in the next weekend had me looking over my shoulder a lot) Events industry definitely lends itself to having some of the most interesting work stories around, for better or for worse
Police do have guns here 🤦 just not all of them carry on them 247 all police cars have guns locked inside and some Frontline carry guns plus armed offender squad etc
NZ was an origin point for gangs, the first Hells angles chapter to form outside of Canada and America EVER was in NZ CIRCA 1960s the gangs culture came to Australia later on but NZ was the first country to get a sanctioned Hells Angels Chapter as in we where the first country external to the motherland., but yes its way more ingrained than it is in Australia and its not uncommon to see like 100s deep packs traveling. its because the Maori people had the warfare ingrained going back through history and they had gangs with territories etc. Since before white man colonized. just look up the videos of them like 1000s deep. I am kiwi but lives in AUS for like 20 years now. If you have never been to NZ or seen it its uncanny to be in an area and its literally blocked off by a few 1000 bikes driving up all over the place. You just don't see that here in AUS because the laws are way stricter. yes it is very ingrained i come from the region that is NZ's epicenter of where the gangs started. The eascoast which is where the mob started. I come from that town. It is Hells Angels very hidden hand the first chapter outside of North America / Canada and then King Cobra is touted as the countries first precursor gang that stemmed from that Hells Angels chapter but MOB and BP surpass that and are the most iconic due to sheer numbers and i would say even the MOB is probably the most prominent remember through history. All these other bike gangs today stem back from Australian culture and like you mention the 501 thing most likely causing that but the OG gangs MOB and BP are the most Iconic. In Aus its very hidden and you don't see it that much, obvs bike culture is more prominent around syd but its not like it is back home. Yes MOB may seem like not a bike gang but the OG ride bikes and they only bring them out on occasion. They are more of a blanket gang so they are not predominately bike gang but they do ride them. There will be tons that dont ride bike either within the gang probably more than not, We have way more gang members per capita than Australia and i would even argue out of most countries in the south pacific. There is also some sort of connection to Boo ya tribe which is a rap group from Carson California but also Piru bloods and they come to NZ all the time and have pictures at MOB pads. They are connected through family some how. I would say and its because west samons either branch to NZ or America with Aus in third place. We also have gon world wide so there is Mob scandinavia and mob norway / germany and also mob UK now and there is also a Europe Patch which will conglomerate all those European countries i am not sure if that is sanctioned or not but you dont get to wear a patch like that and rep a gang by faking.
@@Dannysrants they just saying at least you never got your head snapped off due to a war breaking out. They don't bring 50 police for nothing. The video does not really show much lol but i am guessing it would of been hectic.
